First Footage From Park Chan-Wook's 'Thirst'!

5 December 2008 9:34 AM, PST

Granted it's in Japanese, beyond the break you can check out the first footage from Park Chan-wook's Thirst, his new vampire flick that will be released here in the States via Focus Features. The story finds Korea's leading man, Song Kang-ho, as a much-loved priest who becomes a vampire after a failed medical experiment; he becomes a tortured and depraved soul. Title refers to a craving for sex, blood and love. Cj is pitching the pic as a love story with horror and drama. Chan-wook directed the infamous Sympathy trilogy that includes the epic Oldboy, Lady Vengeance and Sympathy For Mr Vengeance.

Cage Rides to the Rescue in First 'Season of the Witch' Pic

4 December 2008 9:53 PM, PST

This evening USA Today presented us with our first official still from Columbia Pictures' Season Of The Witch, which I personally am extremely excited for. The image displays Nicolas Cage in some mediaeval gear riding a horse - and shockingly, it looks pretty good. The story revolves around a group of knights in 14th century France who must transport a woman accused of witchcraft to a mountain abbey, where the monks will seek to understand and destroy her powers, believed to be the source of the Black Plague. Directed by Dominic Sena from a powerful screenplay by Bragi F. Schut, the film stars Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore, Claire Foy, Robbie Sheehan and Stephen Graham.

New Progress on 'Creature from the Black Lagoon'

4 December 2008 3:37 PM, PST

A remake that has been lingering for what seems like ages over at Universal Pictures is The Creature From The Black Lagoon, which until now had director Breck Eisner locked down to direct. Today a new interview with Producer/Screenwriter Gary Ross appeared online to talk a bit about the remake, all of which can be found beyond the break. Maybe if The Wolfman is successful in the Spring it'll light a fire under Uni's arse? Producer/Screenwriter Gary Ross talked a bit about remake today to Collider. It seems that the movie is still not greenlit yet, but he hopes to have it going sometime next year. He also said that its not going to be campy and that they still havent decided if the creature will be live action or itll be CGI.

Frank Miller Says 'Sin City 2' Could Shoot By April

4 December 2008 11:36 AM, PST

While I'm starting to believe Dimension Films won't make another movie besides Halloween II, a new report gives us some hope for the long-gestured sequel to Sin City. "Sin City 2 is written," Frank Miller tells IGN. "It's mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I'm hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could be shooting as soon as April." Early reports claimed that the film will be about Dwight McCarthy planing to have his vengeance against the woman who betrayed him, Ava Lord, while Nancy is trying to cope with Hartigan's death. Dimension Films' 2009 slate looks grim, which makes me think they truly are in a hep of trouble. Will we ever see Sin City 2? Let's hope so...

Scout Taylor-Compton Slams 'Halloween 2' Rumors

4 December 2008 10:45 AM, PST

Before you get your panties in a bunch, our sources have confirmed some of another website's story, which reported that Rob Zombie will be directing Halloween II for Dimension Films. While it's being reported that it's set in stone, we've been told that there are some heated talks, leaving everything up in the air. The new Laurie Strode, Scout Taylor-Compton, thinks she has a better handle on the rumors as she tells Sequel-Buzz, "Where did you hear that from?... Oh, I'm so sick of this. People need to stop believing what they read on Internet. I'm somewhat close with Rob and believe me, if there was any truth to this...I'd know." The question is, would she really know? I'm going to go with no... chime in on your thoughts below.

New 'Prey' Trailer Adds to the Controversy

4 December 2008 10:05 AM, PST

A film we've been following for quite sometime is the Australian horror film Prey which even was praised for leaving a heavy lesbian scene intact. The latest controversy comes in the new trailer, which doesn't display a director. The IMDb page now lists Oscar D'Roccster as the man behind the camera. Interesting. In the film, three couples, one from the USA and two from Australia, are about to learn the horrible truth about what happens when your 4Wd holiday goes horribly wrong. In the desert, in the night, in the dark. Jesse Johnson, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Ben Kermode, Natalie Walker and Christian Clark all star.

Universal to Chew Bubblegum and Kick Ass in 'They Live' Remake

3 December 2008 11:24 PM, PST

Some remake announcements I just shrug off, some I get excited for, and then some just plain get under my skin. While I am a remake enthusiast, there are some films I consider untouchable, and if a studio is going to remake a film all I ask is that it's different. Universal did throw us a pretty damn good remake of Dawn Of The Dead, so maybe a remake of John Carpenter's They Live won't be all that bad? Besides, Zack Snyder's Strike Entertainment is getting involved, which can only mean good things (right?). The story also confirms that Strike is also still planning on remaking The Thing (1982), which is a remake of The Thing From Another World (1951). Read on for the story and chime in on your thoughts below.

An Explosion of Rage in 'Piecemeal'

3 December 2008 9:48 PM, PST

Zone Film is delivering a slice of horror with Jeff Welch's Piecemeal, a pretty interesting film that tells the tale of a teen who struggles to control his rage while living the life of a brutally abused young man in recurring nightmares. Daniel Roby is set to direct the film next fall after helming Remstar Prods.' 1970s-era saga Funktown in March. Seville Pictures will distribute the film in the U.K. and Canada, which means a Lionsgate release in the States is highly probably. Roby scored the Toronto International Film Festival's best Canadian debut feature award for his vampire thriller White Skin, which is a fav here on B-d. Tcb Film's Simon Trottier will produce the film - his recent Toronto thriller Martyrs helped land director Pascal Laugier a gig helming Dimension's next Hellraiser film.

Revisit War of the Worlds in 'Knowing' One Sheet

3 December 2008 6:39 PM, PST

While highly reminiscent of DreamWorks' War Of The Worlds poster, Summit Entertainment's official one sheet for Alex Proyas' Knowing is pretty damn cool. The image displays the Earth with a whole bunch of odd symbols bleeding out of the atmosphere; check it out inside. Arriving in theaters March 20, the film tells the story of a man (Nicolas Cage) who unearths a time capsule with children's drawings predicting the future that was buried in the 1950s. One child's drawings predicted several horrible events that already have come true; however, one of those events has not yet occurred, and the man sets out to prevent it from happening.

Kickin' Cast For 'All About Evil'

3 December 2008 6:18 PM, PST

We caught wind of a new film going into production next March in San Francisco, CA that sounds pretty freakin' cool. Written and directed by Joshua Grannell is All About Evil, which follows a mousy librarian, who has inherited her father's beloved old movie house, discovers her inner serial killer -- and a legion of rabid gore fans -- when she starts turning out a series of grisly shorts. What her fans don't realize yet is that the murders in the movies are all too real. Upcoming phenoms Thomas Dekker (From Within, The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Noah Segan (Deadgirl, Cabin Fever: Spring Fever) will topline alongside horror legends Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) and Mary Woronov (Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall, House of the Devil). Patrick Bristow, Peaches Christ and Mink Stole round out the cast.
