Jonathan Melville Pratt is a composer, singer, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer living in DC and working around the world. Jonathan earned his bachelors degree in Classical Vocal Performance and "Interdisciplinary Composition" from The North Carolina School of the Arts and has gone on to perform and create extensively throughout his career focusing mostly on fine art commissions. Most recently Jonathan's acclaimed score, "Two Way Dream" was presented with live instrumentation at The Juilliard School. In the world of film Jonathan has worked on the feature film "The Last Day of August" directed by Craig DiFolco, "Empire Corner" and "I Don't Sleep I Dream" directed by JP Chan, as well as "A Study In Color" and "Blue" Directed by Celia Rowlson-Hall.
Since 1999, Jonathan has been commissioned to compose and perform original music in Modern Dance, Ballet, Theater, Film, Commercials, Performance Art, and Pure Music venues. In January 2011, Jonathan was one of 7 of 500 applicants from 60 countries to have been awarded the Sacatar International Arts Fellowship in Bahia, Brazil, January 2nd to February 28th, 2011, scores for films by Celia Rowlson-Hall "A Study in Colour" for Keller NYC and "Blue", commissioned by Kate Spade, a mammoth evening length work "Big City" in collaboration with Brian Brooks Moving Company, which premiered at The Joyce May 30th, 2012, FLEXUS for Keigwin and Company's 12 Chairs- Premier at The Joyce Theater in June of 2012, composition and sound design "The Flood Verses" for Janusphere- premier La Mama, Oct 7th, 2011, a duo collaboration with Kennis Hawkins entitled, ".. and wanting", - premier St. Mark's Church October 22nd, 2011, a new dance solo with Rashaun Mitchell and Stacy Martorana for the International Solo Dance competition in Germany March, 2012, evening length score "Drain Through You" for Katie Workum's "Fruitlands"- Premier April, 2012 at The Chocolate Factory, two new commissions for Camille A. Brown; BIND for "Stages"- Premier December 12th, 2012 at the Juilliard School and MANIPULATOR for Mr. Tol E. Rance- Premier April 6th, 2013 at The Kitchen. Recently, Jonathan worked composing, musical directing and performing all of the music live for a new production of The Brothers Size at The Old Globe Theater, in San Diego, new score "Drawn" for Hillary Franklin's beautiful new dance film "FOLDS". Currently, Jonathan is finishing two scores for Keigwin and Company that are upcoming this summer and beyond. Jonathan is excited about this new collaboration with Tiffany Mills at BAM. Jonathan made strides as a director, choreographer, and producer under the name Robot Chuch creating many underground happenings, events, and multi-media works "The Playdate", "After Never", "They Have Gone Backwards", and "Victim Eyes" with writer/poet Ian Merrigan, Benton Bainbridge, Audio Visual master Robert Ramirez, and an array of talented performers.
Jonathan is beginning work on a new score for acclaimed Chreographer/Director Mimi Garrard. Jonathan is always looking for the next big project and eager to score more feature films, television, and commercial ventures.
