Few shows remain relevant following the end of their run, but Suits staged a big comeback last year when the first eight seasons landed on Netflix.
The former USA Network legal drama broke countless streaming records and reignited interest in the franchise.
Recognizing an opening to restart the franchise, NBC put a spinoff — Suits: L.A. — into development.
Despite being billed as a shoo-in for a pickup for the 2024-2025 TV season, it was absent from the recent wave of NBC series orders and the network’s fall 2024 schedule.
Thankfully, the lack of pickup isn’t bad news because NBC has yet to watch the Suits L.A. pilot.
“We’re excited about this. It’s a pilot and we’ll be screening it in June … Assuming that it gets picked up it would be for midseason next year,” NBCUniversal boss Jeff Bader shared this week, according to The Wrap.

Multi award-winning Filipina actress Ruby Ruiz has landed her first major screen role following her appearance in Amazon’s “Expats.” She will lead “First Light,” the feature directorial debut of James. J. Robinson.
Principal photography is now underway on the Australian-Filipino co-production, which comes with funding from Screen Australia. Veteran actress Maricel Soriano (“Mother Nanny”), Rez Cortez (“Bukal”), Soliman Cruz (“Blue Room”) and Kidlat Tahimik round out the cast.
Set in the remote mountains of the Philippines, “First Light” sees the death of a young construction worker force an elderly nun to confront the muddied ethics of an institution she has dedicated her life to. The script, also by Robinson, is a deeply personal story exploring the intersection of duty, faith and institutional power.
“Developing ‘First Light’ over the past two years has been an incredibly profound journey into the heart of pre-colonial Filipino philosophy,” Robinson said. “To be able...

This Is Us hasn’t even been off the air for two years, but that doesn’t mean that fans wouldn’t love to see the Pearson family—extended, too—back on their screens in some form or another. At least for now, though, it really does sound like the only type of reunion to come is the This Was Us rewatch podcast. “I don’t think [a revival or spinoff] will happen for This Is Us,” Jon Huertas, who played Miguel and directed two episodes, tells TV Insider. “This story was super personal to Dan Fogelman and he told the story the way he wanted to tell it and ended it the way he wanted to end it. And I think it might do a disservice to the show if someone other than Dan especially tried to put something together. But I think that the story has been told, and I can’t...

And while the Black Widow prequel movie wasn’t one of Marvel’s best or most lucrative movies, it did conclude the story of Natasha Romanoff in the MCU, and introduced us to some new characters we are going to see in some of the upcoming movies. But, this article won’t be about the movie itself, as it is going to be about the complex creative process that led to the final product, as IndieWire had a talk with one of the story co-writers Ned Benson, who joined the production at a later date, rewriting the original pitch, but even his version did not end up being the final one.
Ned Benson had a short talk with IndieWire about a potential return to the MCU, seeing how his original collaboration with the large cinematic project didn’t turn out to be the best, but it seems that the filmmaker...

Brown, and Chris Sullivan have launched a This Is Us rewatch podcast, titled This Was Us, the show’s stars announced on the Instagram page that led to speculation that that was what they had planned. It begins on May 14. “We are So excited to finally announce that we (big) three are taking back Tuesdays and bringing #ThisIsUsback,” the three wrote in the Instagram caption. “The Pearson’s story may have ended after six seasons, but our stories continue on. For six seasons and 106 episodes, Tuesdays brought us together with tissues in one hand and pantry wine in the other. Why? Because we see ourselves in the fabric of their lives. We may or may not have cried at least once every episode, but let’s just say our tears served as emotional catharsis…” The statement continues, “Sibling rivalry, body issues,...

Sebastian Stan felt differently while walking the streets of New York City during the “A Different Man” production.
Stan, who spends less than half of the film under prosthetics to play a man suffering from a facial disfigurement, explained at the New York City premiere of the feature that he felt as though he was treated differently by people when donning the makeup.
As prosthetic artist Mike Marino, who was behind “The Penguin” and “The Batman” looks, was working on a series of other projects at the time of indie film “A Different Man,” Stan explained that sometimes he would be wearing his prosthetics for up to three hours before shoot time.
“And then I had this time, so I would walk down the street, get a coffee. I was too scared to do it alone, like I had to have my friend with me,” Stan said during the New...

There’s nobody quite like Harvey Specter. The character from Suits is undeniably one of the best ever created. Since the show ended, the fan base for this character has only grown stronger. As a result, the idea of a spin-off emerged called Suits L.A., and work on it is in full swing, although details are still tightly under wraps.
While it’s a spin-off, the show promises to offer audiences something new while maintaining the integrity of the original series. And Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black, already proves that while loosely inspired by Harvey Specter, Black differs from Specter in one significant way.

How Does Stephen Amell’s Ted Black Differ From Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter?
As a spin-off, comparisons between Suits L.A. and the original series are inevitable, with particular scrutiny likely falling on Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black.

Just over a year ago, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was set to take Marvel Studios to the next level. A new villain was going to be introduced, setting the stage for several years’ worth of storytelling. And the movie itself was a giant-sizing of a franchise that was previously modest in scope. Instead, the Peyton Reed-directed movie heralded a year’s worth of missteps, box office blunders and PR nightmares. It was all uncharted territory for Marvel, which had steadily been generating box office gold for 15 years.

Eighties television was a land of new ideas that hadn’t been seen before. It was also a place where old tropes were made shiny and new with a modern sheen that intrigued audiences and would produce classics like the hospital drama St. Elsewhere and the crime drama Hill Street Blues.
It would be a humdinger of a decade within the genre of mystery and detectives. It would see the return of the iconic detective Mike Hammer in a new series and would also bring us the dramedy Moonlighting. We’d also be treated to one of the greatest performances of Sherlock Holmes ever with the amazing Jeremy Brett.
It would also bring us a female detective who, in a world filled with male counterparts, couldn’t catch a break until she made up her own male counterpart in a boss named Remington Steele. The rest, as they say, is history,...

Hollywood has a long history of casting and awarding able-bodied actors to portray characters with disabilities. In the Oscars’ best actor category alone, there is Daniel Day-Lewis for My Left Foot, Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything, Colin Firth for The King’s Speech and Jamie Foxx for Ray. In the history of the Academy Awards, only three disabled actors have been awarded a best performance trophy for portraying a character who has their disability.
Director Aaron Schimberg notes that onscreen portrayals of people with disfigurements, as seen in his latest film A Different Man, are still largely played by able-bodied people in prosthetics. “On the other hand,” he continues, “When I’ve cast actors with disfigurements, people have called that exploitative, which seems to run counter to this whole discussion about representation that we’re having.” For his newest film, he wanted to interrogate the complexities of that sometimes counterproductive conversation.

Sebastian Stan is pushing back at a journalist’s comment about his new movie.
On Friday (February 16), the 41-year-old actor attended a press conference at the 2024 Berlinale International Film Festival alongside his co-stars Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson to promote their new movie A Different Man.
In the thriller, Sebastian plays Edward, an aspiring actor with facial disfigurement and undergoes reconstructive surgery to start a new life, but becomes obsessed with an actor with a facial disfigurement (Pearson) who is portraying him in a play based on his former life.
For the first half of the movie, Sebastian wears heavy makeup and prosthetics to portray the character with a facial disfigurement.

At the press conference, a journalist – who is not a native English speaker – asked Sebastian, “What do you think happens after the transformation from this so-called beast, as they call him, to this perfect man?”

Berlin: Sebastian Stan Pushes Back on Journalist Who Calls His ‘A Different Man’ Character a “Beast”
During a press conference at the Berlin Film Festival for his latest film A Different Man, Sebastian Stan pushed back on the journalist who described his character, who has a facial disfigurement, as a “beast.”
Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man, which will screen on Friday at the Berlin Film Festival, follows Edward (played by Sebastian Stan), an aspiring actor with facial disfigurement who, after undergoing reconstructive surgery, starts a new life, only to become obsessed with an actor with a facial disfigurement (Adam Pearson) who is playing him in a play based on his former life.
The journalist, who was not an native English speaker, asked Stan, “What do you think happens after the transformation from this so-called beast, as they call him, to this perfect man?” (Stan wears a facial prosthetic for the first half of the film.)

Sebastian Stan corrected a journalist at the Berlin Film Festival press conference for his new film, the psychological thriller “A Different Man,” when they used insensitive language to describe a character with facial disfigurement.
The film follows Edward (Stan), who, after undergoing facial surgery, becomes fixated on another man playing him in a stage production based on his former life. In the first act of the movie, Stan wears heavy makeup to portray a character with a facial disfigurement, and after the surgery, his face returns to its typical look.

Sebastian Stan called out a journalist for using the word “beast” in relation to his character in Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man, in the press conference for the Berlinale Competition entry.
A Bulgarian journalist had asked Stan about his character’s “transformation from this so-called ‘beast’ to this perfect man”, a key narrative element of the film.
“I have to call you out on the choice of words there,” Stan responded calmly. “Part of why the film is important is we often don’t have the right vocabulary; it’s a bit more complex than that and there’s language barriers and so forth.

Do all the touchdown dances you want, but know that there’s at least person — aside from, uh, the San Francisco 49ers — for whom Super Bowl Sunday carries the acrid tang of dreams gone up in smoke.
On her Instagram Story Sunday night, Mandy Moore made a joke that referenced a pivotal episode of her NBC series This Is Us. The account Midwest vs. Everybody posted a photo of eight slow cookers, deeming the appliance “The real Mvp of Super Bowl Sunday.” Underneath, Moore — who played mama Rebecca on the show — added: “Not in the Pearson household.”

The USA Network drama Suits became a streaming hit last summer after Netflix acquired the first eight seasons. With billions of minutes streamed, it’s no surprise that NBCUniversal would be eager to return to this world that so many people have grown to love. Whispers of a spinoff have been in the air since the show started gaining popularity, but now it’s official – Suits is coming back.
Suits: LA recently received a pilot order from NBCUniversal, and production is slated to begin in late March. However, even though the series will be written and produced by Suits creator Aaron Korsh, as of this moment, none of the original cast members are set to return. Instead, Suits: LA will feature a new cast and primarily follow Ted Black, “a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles.”

When Suits suddenly became the hottest TV series of the summer — despite coming to an end over four years ago — NBC wasted little time in approaching series creator Aaron Korsh about developing a new spinoff series. Well, the Suits spinoff has now been given an official pilot order from NBC, as well as a title: Suits: L.A.
Suits: L.A. will follow Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who has reinvented himself by representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. “His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career,” reads the official description. “Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. That’s almost a wrap, folks, as this year’s Sundance Film Festival concludes its eleven-day run tomorrow. While Team IndieWire has already decamped back to their various home bases (eleven is a lot of days), we’re all still enjoying what this year’s festival has to offer through both its virtual screening platform and our already-fond memories of the best films we saw at this year’s festival.
And what films are those, you might ask? We’re all too happy to share, care of the following list of 17 standout features from this year’s festival, hereby termed the best of the fest. The following list includes over a dozen films one IndieWire staffer really wanted to highlight. Narratives and documentaries, first-time filmmakers and old favorites, comedies, dramas, horror films, and so much more, this list also captures the breadth of filmmaking prowess put on display at this year’s festival.

There are a lot of ways A Different Man could go and a lot of things it could be. Aaron Schimberg’s uniquely uncomfortable, uncomfortably unique feature sometimes plays as a reverse-Frankenstein medical horror, a tragic life-imitates-art satire, and a spiraling relationship drama. To its ambitious and distinct credit, it attempts packaging them all into ominous-sounding harmony, as if Charlie Kauffman’s surrealist Escher concoctions became a Twilight Zone episode modeled after David Lynch’s Elephant Man or Beauty and the Beast. It’s a dark, hilarious, and deeply unsettling portrait of a disfigured man that’s also an unflinching mirror of a looks-focused industry.
If this sounds like a meta contraption about representation and authenticity that’s too complicated to grasp, Schimberg eases you into the idea with a purposefully cliché setup for his facially disfigured protagonist. Rendered unrecognizable by the character’s neurofibromatosis (a condition in which...

Plot: A man (Sebastian Stan) with a rare condition that resulted in severe facial deformities undergoes an experimental treatment which leaves him with a new face.
Review: Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man is a blackly comic deconstruction of identity. It examines how suddenly waking up with a perfect face may, initially, be exciting but can’t permanently cure what’s under the skin and in the soul. While that sounds saccharine, Schimberg’s movie puts that message across in a surrealistic way that mainly works until a bizarre epilogue stretches the premise a tad too far.
Sebastian Stan is terrific in his meatiest role to date. The movie starts with him buried under layers of makeup as Edward, who seems to be afflicted with a condition similar to neurofibromatosis. He’s a contact object of curiosity and pity for those around him while he lives a quiet life in a decaying New York apartment.

The Sundance Film Festival on Sunday night hosted the world premiere of Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man starring Sebastian Stan, Adam Pearson and The Worst Person in the World breakout Renate Reinsve in her first American film.
Stan toplines the A24 release as an aspiring actor, Edward, who undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But a new face turns into a nightmare when it causes him to lose a dream role he was born to play when the playwright/object of his affections, Reinsve, replaces him with someone who looks nearly identical to his former self, Pearson, a man with a disfigured face.
As for Pearson, he lives with neurofibromatosis (type 1), a rare genetic condition that causes excess body tissue to grow predominantly on his face. The condition fuels the plot of A Different Man and the actor, Pearson, actually inspired the film after having...

Here we are, three weeks into January, and the Sundance Film Festival has delivered what promises to be the year’s most uncomfortable date movie: a grubby New York-set fable about a facially distinctive actor (modeled on Adam Pearson) who undergoes an experimental procedure that leaves him looking like Sebastian Stan — presumably an improvement, until he realizes that under the skin, he’s still the same miserable loser.
The kind of oddball satire only indie studio A24 would dare to produce, Aaron Schimberg’s “A Different Man” asks what it means to be “normal,” and whether, if we could wave a magic wand and “correct” those same aberrant qualities which set us apart, that’s really something we’d want. “Twilight Zone”-level weird at times, “A Different Man” suggests the bizart-house version of a Woody Allen movie, wherein traditional jokes have been axed in favor of long, cringe-inducing scenes...

A Different Man tackles weighty themes of disability, identity and transformation. Directed and written by Aaron Schimberg and starring Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson, what emerges is a complex portrayal of the clashes between outer perceptions and inner truths. While it makes a valiant effort towards inclusion to express a vital message about appearance and identity, the film’s execution can often feel tonally inconsistent, and overlong.
Edward (Stan) is an aspiring actor with facial deformities, that subjects him to ridicule and isolation. Though self-conscious and lonely, Edward finds hope when he befriends Ingrid (Reinsve), his empathetic playwright next-door neighbor. When presented with the possibility of normalcy through a risky reconstructive procedure, Edward pursues the chance to lead a life free from judgment and staring eyes.
The painful transformation grants him a new face, but Edward soon realizes appearance alone cannot erase his past.

“A Different Man,” a chilling story of identity and obsession with a dark sense of humor, debuted at Sundance with a well-received Sunday evening premiere at the Eccles Center.
The A24 film stars Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson in a tale of an actor who has facial reconstruction surgery and must come to terms with the fact that a theater role based on his life is given to another actor.
During the screening, the Sundance audience was rapt with attention at the twisty script, which included a strange and kinky sex scene that left people squirming in their seats, as well as some realistic gore that earned yelps from the audience.
After the premiere, writer and director Aaron Schimberg joined Stan, Reinsve and Pearson onstage for a Q&a to dive into the film’s themes. At one point, Pearson, who has neurofibromatosis, discussed how he was able...

Looks can be deceiving in A Different Man, writer-director Aaron Schimberg’s endearingly twisted take on actors, playwrights, egos and the plight of the profoundly disfigured.
Like the famous “Eye of the Beholder” episode of The Twilight Zone, in which humans turn out to be society’s freakish outcasts, this dark comedy suggests what happens when an aspiring thespian afflicted with neurofibromatosis manages to find a miracle cure, only to long for the life he had when he was still deformed.
The thesp in question — a nebbishy New York actor named Edward, or Ed — is played with tongue-in-cheek gravitas by Sebastian Stan, who dons several layers of prosthetics (courtesy of ace makeup designer Mike Marino) until peeling them away to reveal his true face. But that hardly gives Ed the life he bargained for, in a film that piquantly questions how others look at us and, more importantly, how we look at ourselves.

Sebastian Stan is back at Sundance this year for the world premiere of A24’s “A Different Man,” co-starring Adam Pearson and Renate Reinsve. The three actors joined director Aaron Schimberg at the Variety Studio presented by Audible to discuss the film, which centers on an aspiring actor with a facial disability who undergoes a radical medical procedure to transform his appearance that proves to be his downfall.
Stan told Variety’s Matt Donnelly that “A Different Man” was shot in only 22 days. Robert Aldrich's "The Dirty Dozen" is the daddiest of dad movies. A box office smash upon its theatrical release in 1967, it was the proto-"men-on-a-mission" movie. Lee Marvin stars as a World War II U.S. Army major ordered to lead a pack of disposable military prisoners on a suicide mission to slaughter numerous high-ranking Nazi officers. The film brought together some of the most macho men on the planet to play the (not entirely) doomed soldiers: Charles Bronson, George Kennedy, Telly Savalas, and, of course, recently retired Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown. It was a testosterone-fueled must-see that inspired three made-for-tv sequels and a load of imitators (including Enzo G. Castellari's "The Inglorious Bastards" and Quentin Tarantino's endearingly misspelled "Inglourious Basterds").

Back in October, it was reported that a new Suits series is in development from creator Aaron Korsh for NBCUniversal. The show was said to not be a revival or reboot, but the quasi-spin-off would take place in a new location with a new cast of characters. The first time a spin-off of the popular show was attempted, the show Pearson featured Gina Torres’ character as she entered the dirty world of Chicago politics. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after just one season. However, if they would ever ask Patrick J. Adams to don the threads again, he wouldn’t hesitate.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the stars were ecstatic to see the surge in popularity when the former USA Network show started streaming on Netflix. When Adams and his co-star, Gabriel Macht, walked the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, they expressed much gratitude to the newfound audience.

The streaming boys of summer are back. The 2024 Golden Globes staged a reunion of Suits stars Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht who teamed up to present the final TV award of the night, Outstanding Drama Series. The two were later joined by fellow original Suits cast members Sarah Rafferty, currently co-starring in the breakout new Netflix series My Life With the Walter Boys, and Gina Torres, now on 9-1-1: Lone Star.
The reunion came four years after Suits ended its run on USA Network and months after the legal drama found new global audience on Netflix, setting streaming records as the top series of the summer.
The series’ newfound success was referenced by Adams.
“There’s nothing more dramatic or anxiety-inducing than waiting all night to hear that your category is finally arrived,” Macht said when the two took the stage, to which Adams replied, “Yes, that’s true.

The British royal family is headed by the monarch, King Charles III. But the “power behind the throne” is someone else. According to a commentator, there’s another royal whom “a lot of the members of the family look to.” And that person is — drumroll, please — none other than Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales.
Kate’s a ‘key player’ in the royal family, ‘always front and center’
Kate doesn’t hold her own place in the line of succession. Her husband, Prince William, and their children are in line for the throne. Nevertheless, she’s still a future queen with a prominent place in the Firm.

In a film full of white hats and black hats, Owen Lars occupies an unusual place in "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope." Luke Skywalker's gruff but loving relative is a working-class stiff. Where his nephew can't stop looking to the horizon, Owen regards the Galactic Civil War as none of his business and believes in keeping his head down. It's all too easy for him to cling stubbornly to his apolitical position; when you've spent your entire life working as a moisture farmer on the backwater planet of Tatooine, all that fuss about Rebellions and Empires probably starts to sound like white noise.
By the time we catch up with Owen in "Obi-Wan Kenobi" (a series that takes place roughly nine years before the events of "A New Hope"), he's already begun settling into his fence-straddling ways. When Obi-Wan -- sorry, "Ben" -- approaches him about getting Luke's Force training underway,...

Martin Campbell's "The Mask of Zorro" is one of the most rousing adventure films of the 1990s, a bracing throwback to old-school Errol Flynn swashbucklers that dazzles with masterfully staged sword fights. Perhaps most importantly, it's powered by an emotionally resonant narrative that raises the stakes sky-high, leading to a breathtaking climax that had audiences cheering all three times I saw the film theatrically.
Antonio Banderas is absolute perfection as Alejandro Murrieta, a rakish outlaw who becomes the unlikely successor to Anthony Hopkins' Don Diego de la Vega, aka Zorro. Murrieta also falls for Catherine Zeta Jones' beautiful and feisty Elena Montero, who does not know that her father, the evil Don Rafael Montero, stole her as an infant from de la Vega and his wife Esperanza (Julieta Rosen).
