It’s been a few years since Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter first announced The Abandons, but the Western series has finally started shooting. Netflix announced the start of production of the first season of The Abandons in Calgary, with an official cast photo seen above.
The official logline for The Abandons reads: “As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back. In this bloody process, ‘justice’ is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law. The Abandons will explore that fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets, as this family fights to keep their land.“

Today, Netflix announced the start of production in Calgary on Season 1 of The Abandons, a pulse-pounding action drama set in the West by Kurt Sutter via his SutterInk banner.
“I am fascinated by the metamorphosis of good into evil. What must transpire to drive the morally sound to become the dangerously corrupt,” said Sutter. “The Abandons explores those complex compromises through the most powerful human instinct — the love and protection of mothers.”

“Violent Night” villain John Leguizamo has a retroactive bone to pick with Italian-American Al Pacino being cast as Puerto Rican and Cuban characters in “Carlito’s Way” and “Scarface,” respectively, saying that despite his super star status, the decision by director Brian De Palma was “odd.”
Leguizamo, who costarred as Benny Blanco in “Carlito’s Way,” told Insider this week that Pacino was “kind of doing like a Cuban/Mexican accent. I know he’s trying and he’s a great actor, so brilliant, he was my hero.”
“But it was odd, man,” the actor added. “It’s an odd experience to be a Latin man in a Latin story written by a Latin man and the lead guy’s a white guy pretending to be Puerto Rican. I’m not going to lie, it’s surreal. It was surreal. I turned the part down a few times and then eventually I decided to do it.

Considered one of the most influential actors of the 20th century, even hearing the name "Al Pacino" triggers the response of "Oh, this is gonna be good." One of the few performers to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting, Pacino's next project brings him into a territory he doesn't often explore: the world of indie dramas.
Pacino is set to star in the upcoming "Billy Knight," the feature directorial debut of writer/director Alec Griffen Roth. Roth is the son of legendary screenwriter and producer Eric Roth, so it'll be fascinating to see whether or not the apple falls far from the tree on this one.
Here's what we know about "Billy Knight" so far.

Bill Cosby and his lawyers were denied a request for a retrial in the sexual assault case tied to an incident from the 1970s at the Playboy Mansion, according to a ruling from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge from Tuesday.
“Cosby has failed to establish he received an unfair trial or that insufficient evidence existed to establish his liability for Plaintiff’s harm,” Judge Craig Karlan said in the ruling. The court had heard arguments at the Santa Monica Courthouse on Sept. 23.
Cosby in June lost a lawsuit brought by plaintiff Judy Huth, who had alleged that Cosby sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 1975, when she was 16 years old. Huth claimed that Cosby instructed her to say that she was 19 if anyone asked. The actor and comedian was previously deposed in the case in October 2014.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 48 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12; last year, only 41 TV movies were submitted.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 27 to cast their 2022 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017, that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

By the time “Space Force” premiered in 2020, it already felt outdated. Even with a starry cast including Steve Carell and John Malkovich, and all the money a Netflix greenlight can afford, its soft jokes about a Trumpian president run amok landed with barely any impact. Carell, who co-created “Space Force” with “The Office” producer Greg Daniels, once played one of the most famous bosses in TV history. But as Mark Naird, Space Force’s commanding general whose characterization veered between hapless and ruthless, he never truly clicked into gear. The shape of a good show was there, even as it never quite materialized. Luckily, “

Netflix has set a winter premiere date for the return of Steve Carell and Greg Daniels’ series Space Force. Season 2 of the workplace comedy will debut February 18 on the streaming network.
Co-created by Carell and Daniels and starring Carell, the series centers on four-star general Mark R. Naird (Carell), a decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, who’s thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces: Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado, where he and a colorful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance.

Lena Waithe admitted at last night’s 27th annual Elle Women in Hollywood event that she tried to convince Halle Berry not to make her directorial debut with the upcoming feature “Bruised” because she was worried that the Oscar winner was taking on too much at once. “I told her to think long and hard about it before she made that decision,” Waithe said while presenting Berry with her Elle honor. “When she came back to me a few weeks later, she told me she understood why I was scared — because I love her and I wanted to protect her. And she was right. But then she said, ‘If I don’t do this, I’ll never forgive myself. I gotta see what I’m made of.’”
Not only did Berry direct the film but she also stars in the movie as an Mma fighter. “It has been my honor...

Providing ample opportunities to showcase the beauties and horrors of the human body, ballet and dance is frequently examined in cinema because of its elaborate artistic and metaphoric potential. Such is the case with Sarah Adina Smith’s “Birds of Paradise,” a sensuous drama filled to the brim with visually distinctive, and grandiose displays of technique and physical rigor. The film follows American ballet students Kate (Diana Silvers) and Marine (Kristine Froseth), both of whom are competing for the top prize in an elite student ballet competition which captures the winner a contract with the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet Company.
