Director, writer, videographer, and sound designer TJ Agua is a rising star among Papua New Guinea's new wave of young film directors and producers. After graduating high school in Port Moresby, she left her native country to earn a diploma in business abroad and gain film experience at Sydney Film School. While there, she worked on a number of documentaries as a videographer, camera assistant, and first AD.
She then returned to Papua New Guinea to hone her craft at Port Moresby's top television studios. She won accolades for her work on the TV show Green Angels and others.
Outside of commercial productions, she has a passion for using film as a tool for human rights and social justice. Her film Wan Dei was an official selection in the 2018 Papua New Guinea Human Rights Film Festival. In 2021, her film Narcissist became an official selection in the Papua New Guinea 2 Minute Film Festival, raising awareness of domestic abuse in her home country. And in 2021, her documentary short 'A Widow's Prayer' won second prize in the International Short Film Festival in Port Moresby
