New Delhi, May 20 (Ians) Rajasthan Royals’ star opener Jos Buttler had made a strong start to the 2023 season of the Ipl. But as the season progressed, he faced inconsistency in his performance.
Buttler has registered a rather unwanted Ipl feat. After he was dismissed on 0 in the side’s last league game against Punjab Kings on Friday night, he recorded the most ducks in a single season (5).
Herschelle Gibbs, Mithun Manhas, Manish Pandey, Shikhar Dhawan, Nicholas Pooran, and Eoin Morgan all had four Ipl ducks to their names in a season.
The English white-ball captain is now facing the heat from netizens.
“Orange Cap In Ipl 2022 And 5 Ducks In Ipl 2023..I repeat 5 Ducks in Ipl 2023 for Jos Buttler. Your apology should be as louder as your disrespect was!” wrote one on Twitter.
Another wrote: “Horrible season for Jos Buttler. Rr should trade him with Csk and take Ben Stokes. Enough is enough.

England lost the fifth and final T20 to India by 36 runs. The home side had racked up 224/2 in 20 overs but Morgan's boys could respond with 188/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

The left-handed batsman, who led his side to the 2019 World Cup triumph, added that they will take home lessons of playing India away from home.

Ahmedabad, March 19 (Ians) England assistant coach Paul Collingwood on Friday said that the fifth and final T20 International match against India here on Saturday will be another opportunity to get experience of knockout cricket which will be crucial ahead of this year's T20 World Cup in India.
"It's a huge game. It feels like another great opportunity to get experience of knockout cricket," said Colligwood while speaking to the British media.
India and England are locked 2-2 in the ongoing T20I series with Saturday's game becoming the decider. Eoin Morgan's side were leading 2-1 before Virat Kohli's men won Thursday's encounter by eight runs to push the series into the decider.
"Leading into a World Cup, you need these kind of experiences to see how players deal with the pressure. It's another experience you can draw on, to use the memories of, to hopefully have success," he added.

Ahmedabad, March 19 (Ians) It is good for England in the run-up to the 2021 T20 World Cup that the final match of their T20I series against India will decide the winner of the rubber, said all-rounder Ben Stokes. India levelled the five-match series 2-2 with an eight-run win in the 4th T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
"Whoever wins that game wins the series so you know that's great for us as a team, and especially with the T20 World Cup coming up, the more pressure situations we get into as a team, the more we will benefit from it," Stokes told reporters during the post-match interaction.
"The more pressure that we get under as a team, the more that's going to do for us in that World Cup, because World Cups can end very quickly. Every game is a big game," he said.

Ahmedabad, March 19 (Ians) India will look to build on the confidence they gained in defending a target in the fourth T20I and win the fifth and final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday to clinch the series.
The hosts have levelled the series from a match down twice. They lost the first and the third matches, but won the second and fourth matches. The latest victory on Thursday came while defending a target of 186 runs.
The first three matches went in favour of teams chasing and it seemed like England would win Thursday's game when they put India in and got the early wicket of Rohit Sharma. However, Suryakumar Yadav, playing his first innings in international cricket, hit a quick half-century to put India on track.

Ahmedabad, March 18 (Ians) Pace bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/30) and Hardik Pandya (2/16) put in an inspirational performance, using change of pace to good effect, to power India to an eight-run victory in the fourth T20 International against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Thursday.
The win brought the five-match series level at 2-2, keeping it alive.
England, who were set a target of 186 lost the third match's hero Jos Buttler early but kept themselves in the chase through Jason Roy (40 off 27 balls), Jonny Bairstow (25 off 19) and Ben Stokes (46 off 23) and looked well set to chase the target and at 140/4 in 16 overs needed 46 off 24 deliveries, a very achievable equation.
However, two wickets off two balls by Shardul Thakur (3/42) in his third over pegged England back. Thakur's change in pace surprised both Stokes and Eoin Morgan (4) as they fell in successive deliveries caught in the deep.

Ahmedabad, March 18 (Ians) England captain Eoin Morgan said his team was in the game till the halfway mark but a couple of wickets in the last few overs tilted the game India's way.
"We were very happy at the halfway stage and were in control for a long time. We knew that dew was around. The ball didn't turn much and we were in control. In overs 16 and 17 we lost three wickets in 7-8 balls and that set us back. It just leaves too much for the bowlers against a top quality side," said Morgan after the match.
England were on course to win the game before the slog overs began. Even after 16 overs, the game was within their reach. However, two wickets off two balls in Shardul Thakur's third over shifted the game towards India.
Unlike the first three matches, which were one-sided, this match was evenly contested.

Ahmedabad, March 18 (Ians) England won the toss and chose to bowl in the fourth T20I against India on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera near Ahmedabad. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been dropped from the Indian squad for Rahul Chahar while Suryakumar Yadav replaced Ishan Kishan, who captain Virat Kohli said has a groin strain.
England, meanwhile, are unchanged from the third T20I. The visitors have a 2-1 lead and are one win away from sealing a series win.

Ahmedabad, March 17 (Ians) England pace bowler Mark Wood has said that early wickets have been the key for England keeping India in check.
The Eoin Morgan-led side restricted India to 156 in the third T20I after limiting them to 124/7 in 20 overs in the first T20 International.
"Early wickets have been key. When we put a dent in India's batting line-up then it makes it harder for them to get a big score at the end and they have to go doubly hard late on. That game plan will be the same whether it's bowling first or bowling second," said Wood, who has been the chief architect of England's wins in the first two T20 Internationals.
Wood feels that despite the performance, his place is still not guaranteed due to the competition in the team.
"We have got that many good bowlers that I don't feel like my place is a given.

Ahmedabad, March 17 (Ians) England's pace bowling and opener K.L. Rahul's position in the playing XI, especially at the top of the order, will be the questions India will have to answer if they are to survive in the T20 series against England.
India need to win the fourth T20I on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Stadium to stay alive in the series after England won the third match to go 2-1 up in the series.
Leading England's charge is their pace bowling attack. Mark Wood has been among the wickets and has made run-making difficult with the pace and bounce he generates from the pitch. England have won both the matches in which Wood played.
Wood gave away 20 runs in his four overs picking a wicket in the first match and then took three wickets in the next match to help his team restrict India despite Virat Kohli...

Ahmedabad, March 16 (Ians) While heaping lavish praise on Jos Buttler, England captain Eoin Morgan on Tuesday said that the wicketkeeper-opening batsman is a world-class player, a great leader within the group, and a personal friend.
Buttler scored an unbeaten match-winning knock of 83 off just 52 balls as England successfully chased India's 156 for six wickets in 20 overs. England finished with 158 for two wickets in 18.2 overs to win the third T20 International here by eight wickets and took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
"Jos is a world-class player and he has averaged upwards of 50 and striking at 150 at the top. There's very little you have to say to Jos. He's been in incredible form and he's a great leader within our group," Morgan said after the win.
Before the match, Buttler presented Morgan a cap to mark the captain's 100th T20 International -- an emotional moment for the milestone man.
"It nearly got me to tears.

Morgan has scored 2,306 T20I runs at an average of 30.34 with 14 half-centuries. He could add to his career tally in the third T20I, in which England are looking to take a 2-1 lead after losing the second match by seven wickets on Sunday. England had earlier won the first match by eight wickets.

Ahmedabad, March 15 (Ians) Buoyed by an impressive seven-wicket win in the second T20 International, India will take on England in the third game of the five-match series with renewed confidence here at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.
The hosts, who had lost the first match by eight wickets, bounced back thanks to impressive bowling in the death overs and power-hitting by debutant opener Ishan Kishan, who made a 32-ball 56.
The third match will be played on a surface that is likely to assist spin bowlers, according to England captain Eoin Morgan.
India bowlers will again look to use the change in pace, a quality that confounded the England batsmen. Only opener Jason Roy could put up something decent, making 46 off 35 deliveries, even as the other batsmen struggled to convert their starts as the Indian bowlers used variations in pace to dismiss them.

Sydney, Nov 26 (Ians) The Australian team will do a 'barefoot circle' when they take the field against India in the first Odi of the three-match series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday.
There had been plenty of talk regarding it after the Aussies were criticised for not taking it seriously during the tour of England this year. Former West Indies pace bowler Michael Holding had lashed out at Aaron Finch and Eoin Morgan for not continuing with the knee gesture that began with the West Indies tour of England but was discontinued when Pakistan and Australia toured England. Finch had then said that specific gestures need not be done.
However, the Aussie leadership has decided that they will do a barefoot circle and wear an indigenous-design jersey in the T20I series against India that follows the Odi series.
"We sat down and discussed it as leadership and as a group.

Mumbai, Nov 23 (Ians) Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) should release the likes of Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik while letting 21-year-old batsman Shubman Gill take over as the captain, former India batsman Aakash Chopra said on Monday.
"In my opinion, Kolkata Knight Riders should not retain too many players. I will take only three names -- Shubman Gill, Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarthy. They should retain the three of them and make Shubman Gill the captain. I am thinking ahead, just like the Delhi Capitals did with Shreyas Iyer. So Kkr should groom Gill for a better future," he said.
"If Kkr is seeing any captaincy material in Shubman Gill, then they will not get the chance again. If they let him go to another team, then Shubman Gill might do for that team what Rohit Sharma has done for Mumbai," he added.

New Delhi, Nov 3 (Ians) Like the previous 12 Ipl seasons, the present edition too has unearthed a plethora of young Indian cricketers -- Devdutt Padikkal, Rahul Tewatia, Ravi Bishnoi, T. Natarajan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh -- who have caught the eye and promised to make it big sooner or later.
Some other youngsters like Kartik Tyagi, Tushar Deshpande, Riyan Parag, Priyam Garg, and Abdul Samad, too impressed in the limited opportunities they got. These players also hold promise and going forward they would carry the rich experience of playing against and with stalwarts in the Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates.
Overall, the Ipl, in its 13-year history, has never been so closely fought. Every franchise has spent considerable time in evaluating and analysing their squad and all of them boasted excellent performers. Therefore, teams were much more evenly matched with international stars and...

Dubai, Nov 1 (Ians) Pat Cummins took four wickets as Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) recorded a valuable 60-run win over Rajasthan Royals (Rr) in their final Indian Premier League (Ipl) group stage match on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium. Chasing a target of 192, Rr only managed a paltry 131/9 in their 20 overs and their campaign came to an end.
The win takes Kkr to fourth spot temporarily due to the two-point lead they gain over SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh), who face the dominant Mumbai Indians in their final group game on Tuesday. Rr, meanwhile, drop down to the bottom of the table.
Kkr were pushed to 191/7 by captain Eoin Morgan who scored an unbeaten 68 off 35 balls. Kkr also have made two changes to the side which played against Mumbai Indians. They have brought in Kuldeep Yadav and Lockie Ferguson for Prasidh Krishna and Chris Green.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 17 (Ians/GloFans) A change in Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) leadership failed to bring a change in luck as the two-time Indian Premier League (Ipl) champions endured an eight-wicket hammering against Mumbai Indians (Mi) on Friday. They will hope for a positive result on Sunday when they clash with SunRisers Hyderabad, who too are in a bad shape.
After some successive below-par performances, Kkr, placed fourth on the points table, had a change of captaincy. Under fire skipper Dinesh Karthik handed over the reins to Eoin Morgan, England's World Cup-winning captain, but there was no change in the result in the game against Mumbai Indians.
Kkr's main concern has been the inconsistency of its batsmen. Kkr boasts of promising players like Rahul Tripathi, Shubman Gill, Morgan and Russell. Despite the fact they all have failed to keep the momentum going.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 16 (Ians) Eoin Morgan's spell as Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) skipper started with a comprehensive eight-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians (Mi) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here on Friday.
After Morgan (39 not out) and Pat Cummins (53 not out) dragged Kkr to 148/5, Mi chased down the target with more than three overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 16 (Ians) Eoin Morgan's first assignment as Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) skipper ended in an eight-wicket defeat to Mumbai Indians (Mi) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Friday. Mi chased down the target of 149 with over three overs and eight wickets to spare.
"We weren't even at the races today. We got a score to bowl at in the end, but the way Mumbai got off, it was tough to stop them," said Morgan after the match.
Kkr managed to drag themselves to 148/5 thanks to an unbeaten 87-run stand between Pat Cummins and Morgan after a top order collapse that left Kkr reeling on 61/5 in the 11th over. Morgan and Dinesh Karthik swapped places on the batting order with Karthik coming in at No. 4, only to be dismissed by Rahul Chahar for just four runs.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (Ians) Rajasthan Royals (Rr) on Friday seem to have inadvertently sparked a rumour of a change in captains before clarifying that Steve Smith remains skipper of the team. Rr first posted a meme featuring their star wicket-keeper-batsman Jos Buttler based on the popular television show "The Office".
"Thankful for a boss like Jos," the team said in a tweet. That led to many on social media to speculate on whether Buttler is going to replace Smith as captain. Their tweet came just hours after Buttler's England team mate and captain Eoin Morgan replaced Dinesh Karthik as skipper at Kolkata Knight Riders.
Rr, however, later indicated that it was an attempt at humour that ended up sparking the rumour about the captaincy change. "When admin realises he started a false rumour," tweeted the franchise with another meme based on "The Office" before tweeting Smith's picture with the caption "Captain" with a heart emojee.

"While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes. We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, who has been the vice captain, is willing to lead the side going forward," he added.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 15 (Ians/GloFans) Reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi) are in red hot form and the Rohit Sharma-led side will aim to consolidate their position on the Indian Premier League (Ipl) points table when they clash with an inconsistent Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) in their return fixture on Friday.
The last time the two sides met in the current season, Mi had thrashed Kkr by 49 runs at the same venue, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
With their consistent performances, Mi have emerged as one of the favorites of this year's title. The entire team has clicked as a unit, with both the bowlers and batsmen stepping up whenever the situation demanded.
While they have in-form top-order comprising skipper Rohit and opener Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have provided stability to their side in the middle-order. The Mi batters are at their peak and can rip apart the best of bowling attacks.

Sharjah, Oct 11 (Ians/GloFans) Riding high on confidence after their comfortable 37-run win over arch-rivals but struggling Chennai Super Kings (Csk), the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) take on Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) in the 28th Ipl match on Monday.
Both teams are coming after a win as Kkr, too, had pipped Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) merely by two runs in a thrilling contest on Saturday.
Despite starting the season with some below-par show, Rcb seem to have finally gained the momentum. Kohli, too, in good touch with the bat and the run-machine single-handedly propelled his side to a respectable 169/4 wickets against Csk with his blistering unbeaten 90. Later, the bowlers rose to the occasion as well to defend the modest target with ease.
Similarly, opener Devdutt Padikkal has been consistent so far. He has an explosive partner in Aaron Finch, who failed to fire in the previous game but has been quite impressive,...

Abu Dhabi, Oct 10 (Ians) Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) captain Dinesh Karthik on Saturday won the toss and elected to bat in their Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2020 match against Kings XI Punjab to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
"The wicket looks dry, so we'll have a bat first. As the tournament progresses, we'll get the right batting order, but it worked well in the last game," Karthik said after winning the toss.
Both the teams have made one change in their playing XIs which featured in last matches. While Kkr have brought in Prasidh Krishna for Shivam Mavi, Kings XI have replaced Sheldon Cottrell with Chris Jordan.
Kkr have won three out of the five games they have played so far. On the other hand, Kings XI have been able to register just one win in their previous six games and are currently lying at the bottom of the points table.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 9 (Ians/GloFans) The ongoing Indian Premier League (Ipl) season has almost reached its half-way mark and the Kl Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) are yet to find winnings ways. The bottom-of the-table team will now be up against Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) on Saturday in what could be called a must-win game if they want to keep their play-offs hopes alive.
With just a single win from six games, Kxip seem to be over-reliant on skipper Rahul, opener Mayank Agarwal and pace bowler Mohammad Shami. Barring the trio, the rest of the players have failed to click.
Nicholas Pooran showed signs of the destruction he could cause in the middle-order in the game against SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) but the Caribbean player needs to be consistent. Other hard-hitters like Glenn Maxwell have been completely silent so far.
In the bowling department, Shami has led from the front with nine wickets from six games.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 8 (Ians/GloFans) On their way to a narrow 10-run win over three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (Csk) -- thanks to Rahul Tripathi's 51-ball 81 -- Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) did something unusual on Wednesday. Sharjah, Oct 4 (Ians) Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday beat Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) by 18 runs in another high scoring thriller and climbed to the top of the table with six points from four matches.
Kkr scored 210/8 wickets in their 20 overs in reply to DC's 228/4 wickets in 20 overs at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium. Kkr would have had to complete the highest ever Ipl run chase, a record that was broken just last Sunday at the same ground.
Kolkata were behind the pace for much of the chase, finding themselves yet to reach 100 in the first 10 overs of their innings and losing three wickets. Nitish Rana anchored the first half of the innings with a well crafted 58 off 34 balls scoring four fours and as many sixes.
Kkr were brought back into the game by a 78-run stand for the seventh wicket between Eoin Morgan (44) and Rahul Trupathi (36). The pair smashed 24 runs...
