Ted Cruz is in a close race to keep his seat in government. After just barely defeating former Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke to retain his Senate seat in 2018, Cruz is now locked in a dead-heat contest against Rep. Colin Allred, a former NFL linebacker turned Texas representative.
Cruz has been vocalizing his fear everywhere he can that Allred may knock him from his seat, while accusing nefarious Democratic operatives of conspiring to oust him from government. On Wednesday, Cruz begged for donations on Fox News and complained that Allred is...

The walls are closing in around Ted Cruz, and the Republican senator is lashing out.
Cruz, who has served two terms as Texas junior senator, is facing a tough reelection challenge from former NFL player and current U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas), who won Texas’ Democratic Senate primary in a landslide victory last month.
On Wednesday, Cruz begged for donation on Fox News while complaining that Allred is out fundraising his 2018 challenger, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, by leaps and bounds.

Before I watched “Civil War,” two publicists working on the dystopian thriller assured me that it isn’t a political film.
In the movie, Kirsten Dunst plays a dogged photojournalist muscling her way through a smoldering Washington D.C., trying to document the bitter conflict between two heavily armed factions tearing America apart. I didn’t buy that it didn’t have something to say about this moment. And neither does Dunst.
“So, do you believe that it’s not political? I mean … it’s an anti war film,” Dunst tells me with a shrug. “This movie, after you see it, you want to talk about it for a while with people. And I think any movie that does that is incredible.”

It was a scatter-shot Real Time from Bill Maher on Friday night. During the course of his conversations, the blame game fell on just about everyone, from politicians to tech titans to those staging St. Patrick’s Day parades.
The night started with tech reporter Kara Swisher, host of the podcast On with Kara Swisher, co-host of the podcast Pivot, and author of the memoir Burn Book: A Tech Love Story.
Swisher’s dogged reporting has tech titans cringing, she claimed. “I think they’re scared a little bit,” and judging from her less-than-favorable comments on the likes of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, they may have good reason.
She characterized that a lot of moguls are “hugely narcissistic,” and said the yes-men that surround them pump them to the point that, “You start t think of yourself as a god.”
Swisher was not willing to balance their good works with that attitude.

Five years ago, with Beto O’Rourke mounting an electrifying campaign to unseat Ted Cruz from the U.S. Senate, Democrats seemed hopeful that the political winds were shifting in Texas to one day make it a purple state. He ultimately lost by 2.6 percent amid a record turnout for a mid-term election.
Since then, Democratic hopes for turning Texas into a swing state have diminished. In the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump made gains with Hispanic voters. And the state legislature has become increasingly conservative with a host of bills signed this year by Republican Governor Greg Abbott that include barring public universities from creating Dei offices, banning transgender athletes from college sports, and restricting labor rights. In 2022, abortion was banned in the state following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

U.S. Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas) thinks his ruby-red home state of Texas is going blue.
Casar spoke about his 2022 campaign, which was featured in the new documentary Texas, U.S.A., with uInterview founder Erik Meers.
“It was a really fast and quick campaign,” Casar recalled. “I was committed to being an Austin city council member, had been working to make sure that people’s homes weren’t lost during the pandemic, make sure that people were able to survive that time of sickness and difficulty for so many people was working on that recovery.”
When the seat opened up in Congress, Casar decided that this “felt like the right moment” as he wanted to speak about “the really big issues facing people across the country, but especially in Texas where abortion was starting to become outlawed.”
During his campaign, abortion was outlawed in Texas right after the state had faced major natural disasters.

What’s more shocking, that Republicans failed to garner a red wave on Tuesday’s election night or that Florida just elected a confirmed Harry Styles stan to the House of Representatives? No, Beto O’Rourke didn’t move to another state. The distinction belongs to Maxwell Frost. On Tuesday night, the former National Organizing Director of March for Our Lives became the first Democratic Gen Z member of Congress — running on a platform of gun control, Medicare for All, and addressing the climate crisis. But you know what’s more relatable?...

Oprah Winfrey refused to endorse Dr. Mehmet Oz in the Pennsylvania Senate race and instead said she supported Democratic nominee John Fetterman.
Winfrey helped launch Oz’s talk show after he appeared numerous times on her program.
Winfrey named several important midterm elections during a virtual event to encourage her fans to vote this past Thursday. She reportedly said, “If I were in Pennsylvania, I would have already cast my vote for John Fetterman, for many reasons.”
She also rattled off several progressive politicians who are either running for Senate or seeking to protect their Senate seats in traditionally-Republican states.
“If I was in Florida, I’d be supporting Val Demings. If I was in Wisconsin, it would be Mandela Barnes, in Nevada, it would be Catherine Cortez Masto,” she said.
Winfrey also named gubernatorial candidates Beto O’Rourke, running in Texas, and Stacey Abrams who is running in Georgia.

“SNL” imagined the scariest Democratic candidates for 2024 presidential race, from Joe Biden to Beto O’Rourke, in a sketch parodying the terrifying odds for the next presidential election through a horror movie trailer.
The sketch kicks off with a mundane night for a couple, played by Chloe Fineman and Mikey Day, who learn that President Joe Biden intends to run for re-election, a scary possibility that sends them into existential dread for the future of the democratic party and the nation as the pair identifies other candidates they would prefer run in place of Biden.
“Sometimes a familiar face can be the most terrifying. You trusted him once,” the trailer echoes as Day reassures his partner — and himself — that Joe Biden isn’t too old for the job and notes that he successfully beat Donald Trump in 2020. “But can he beat DeSantis?” Fineman interjects, confirming Day’s fear that the prospect...

Texas Democrat gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke is singing Harry Styles's praises after the pop star endorsed the politician at an Oct. 2 concert in Austin, TX. During the concert, the "Watermelon Sugar" singer stood silently in front of the microphone holding his guitar as a camera zoomed in to focus on a sticker that read "Beto For Texas." In videos taken by fans, Styles can be seen pointing to the sticker and smiling, seemingly giving his approval to O'Rourke, who is up against incumbent Greg Abbott in the race.
According to O'Rourke, Styles's subtle endorsement has raised voter awareness among young people in a significant way. The Texas politician expressed his gratitude to the singer during an Oct. 13 interview with "Hysteria" podcast hosts Erin Ryan and Alyssa Mastromonaco.

Willie Nelson will perform at a rally for US politician Beto O’Rourke this Sunday (2 October) in Austin, to support the nominee in his bid to be Texas’s Governor in the 2022 elections.
Beto O’Rourke is a Texan Democrat who previously served as a US representative for Texas’s 16th congressional district.
This isn’t the first time Nelson has supported the Democrats; he has previously held and attended rallies for O’Rourke as well as openly supported the party in interviews.
Last year the country music legend led more than a thousand spectators in singing “vote them out” from the steps of the Texas Capitol, during a rally wrapping up a four-day march in support of Democratic state legislators.
“If you don’t like who’s in there, vote them out,” Nelson sang, after he invited the crowd to join him in singing lyrics he’d previously written about...

When a stream of Democratic candidates trek to Los Angeles this month in likely their final effort to raise money before the midterms, they will be met by Hollywood supporters who are less deflated than they once were about the party’s prospects in November: Call them cautious, if maybe a bit more optimistic.
President Joe Biden’s recent legislative wins, coupled with a renewed focus on the chaos of Donald Trump, has given industry Democrats reason to believe that the party won’t face quite the drubbing that they did in the past. The backlash to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, fueling a new wave of activism within the industry, has raised hopes that it will translate into improved turnout, and perhaps even match what is expected on the GOP side.

In an emotional monologue, Jimmy Kimmel fought back tears as he called out elected officials who refuse to act on enacting more comprehensive gun control. “They don’t want to speak about it because they know what they’ve done, and they know what they haven’t done — and they know that it’s indefensible,” he said...

Stephen Colbert spent considerable time in his monologue on Wednesday’s episode of “The Late Show” talking about the horrific murder of 19 children and 2 teachers by a gunman at a Texas elementary school. And during his comments, he repeatedly called out the “solutions” offered by conservatives.
But first, Colbert also argued that the ban on assault weapons should be reinstated.
“Although it can be argued there are many reasons, we know the biggest reason for these tragedies is the guns. And right now the United States has approximately 400 million firearms, which is more than 40 of the total guns in the entire world,” Colbert said as he started the segment. “That stat’s even more harrowing considering that we have 100 of the world’s Floridas.”
“Now there’s a simple, if extremely difficult solution: Reduce the number of guns. We’ve done it before, and it worked. Joe Biden knows that,...

The Onion blanketed its homepage today with the same article it has posted in response to many other past mass shootings, skewering the idea that such atrocities cannot be stopped.
“‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says the Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens,” reads the headline on the article, which was posted 21 times on the satirical site’s home page. Each story corresponds to a different mass shooting but with the same headline and quotes. The Onion had posted the same article earlier this month following the mass shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, NY, and it has run the article numerous times since 2014. That was after there was a mass shooting in the Isla Vista community near Uc Santa Barbara.
