For many of Donald Trump’s supporters, today is a dark day indeed: The president pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts today after being formally arrested in a Manhattan courtroom. But for those in the Qanon conspiracist movement, hope springs eternal, and “The Storm” is always just around the corner.
Ahead of Trump’s arrest, mainstream conservatives argued that it set a new precedent, opening the door to future cases against Democrats including Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton. But the Q hardliners have taken this idea much further,...

Donald Trump’s claims of “executive privilege” will not block key administration deputies from testifying before the federal grand jury investigating the former president for his campaign to overturn the results of the 2020 election and his role in the bloody events of Jan. 6.
As reported by ABC and CNN, a federal judge has dismissed Trump’s bid to prevent Special Counsel Jack Smith from questioning White House witnesses about their former boss. Judge Beryl Howell issued the decision in a sealed order last week.

Elon Musk’s tenure as head of Twitter is off to the rockiest of starts — and Donald Trump is enjoying the carnage.
In recent days, the former president has privately mocked Musk for the negative media coverage of his Twitter leadership, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Additionally, Trump has said Twitter’s tumult could be a good business opportunity for his social media app, suggesting a larger share of Maga users may migrate to his own “Truth Social.”

The Department of Justice has issued around 40 subpoenas in the past week seeking information about former President Donald Trump’s plans to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The New York Times reported Monday on the number of subpoenas issued, as well as noting that two Trump advisers — Boris Epshteyn and Mike Roman — had their phones seized.
Dan Scavino, Trump’s long-term social media guru, was among those to receive subpoenas, as was Bernard Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner who has also been under scrutiny by the Jan.

In his year and a half in exile, former President Donald Trump has been sketching out his possible return to power, filling his time with authoritarian revenge fantasies and several ideas for government personnel that sound like they sprang directly from a Fox News control room.

Peter Navarro, the former adviser to former President Donald Trump who helped devise a failed scheme to override the results of the 2020 presidential election, disclosed on Monday that he has been served with a subpoena by a federal grand jury, according to The New York Times.
Navarro says the subpoena requests he provide records relating to the Jan. 6 insurrection, including “any communications” he had with Trump.
According to the Times, Navarro intends on suing the House Jan. 6 committee, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and Matthew Graves, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.

The January 6th Committee has subpoenaed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-ca) and four other GOP lawmakers for their testimony about the siege on the Capitol.
Also issued subpoenas were Scott Perry, Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs and Mo Brooks.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-ms), the chairman of the committee, said that the five congressman have so far refused to voluntarily testify.
“We urge our colleagues to comply with the law, do their patriotic duty, and cooperate with our investigation as hundreds of other witnesses have done,” he said. The letter to McCarthy is here.
McCarthy was in communication with then-President Donald Trump before, during and after the siege, the committee noted. McCarthy also “claimed to have had a discussion with the President in the immediate aftermath of the attack during which President Trump admitted some culpability for the attack.”

The Jan. 6 committee voted unanimously last week to refer the matter to the House. “They’re not fooling anybody,” Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said at the time. “They are obligated to comply with our investigation. They have refused to do so.

Donald Trump released a new statement in which he said that there would be an “orderly transition of power,” amid the uproar over his role in fomenting a mob of protesters who went on to storm the U.S. Capitol.
Shortly after Congress affirmed the victory of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, one of Trump’s aides, Dan Scavino, tweeted out the statement. The president continued to make unfounded and false claims of election fraud.
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

Protesters, mostly maskless, gathered in D.C. from across the country this weekend to show their support for President Trump and express their refusal to accept the 2020 presidential election results. At one point, the crowd chanted “Destroy the GOP!” to express their anger with the party for failing to keep Trump in the White House. The rally was held just one day after the Supreme Court delivered a likely fatal blow to Trump’s hopes of remaining in power.

President Trump returned to the White House on Monday after spending the weekend at Walter Reed Medical Center following his positive Covid-19 diagnosis. Though the president tweeted Tuesday that he’s “Feeling Great,” his health status remains a mystery, and a growing number of people he’s been in contact with directly or indirectly have either tested positive or entered quarantine. This shouldn’t be surprising considering Trump’s movements in the days prior to his positive diagnosis.

Donald Trump is experiencing mild symptoms after testing positive for Covid-19, his chief of staff Mark Meadows said on Friday.
“I’m optimistic he will have a very quick and speedy recovery,” Meadows told reporters.
He did not say what kind of treatment the president was receiving.
“He continues to be not only in good spirits but very energetic,” Meadows said. “We’ve talked a number of times this morning. I got five or six things he tasked me to do like I do every sigle morning, and he certainly wanting to make sure that we stay engaged.”
He said that doctors continue to monitor Trump’s health and that of First Lady Melania Trump.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus, Trump tweeted early Friday.

Entertainer Harry Belafonte released a statement after a senior aide to Donald Trump posted a doctored video in which it was made to appear as if Joe Biden was fast asleep when a local news anchor attempted to interview him via satellite.
In fact, the video was from 2011, when Belafonte was doing a series of press junket interviews and lost audio contact with the local station in Bakersfield, CA.
“They keep stooping lower and lower,” Belafonte said in a statement. “A technical glitch in an interview I did nine years ago now becomes another one of their lies, more of their fake news. I beg every sane American: please vote them out. I knew many who gave their life for the right to vote. Never has it been so vital to exercise that right.”

When Donald Trump’s campaign blasted out a response to Joe Biden’s speech on Monday, based on a wildly out of context quote, Twitter very quickly labeled it “manipulated media.”
The account Trump War Room sent out a three-second clip in which Biden says, “You won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America!” But Biden was actually saying the opposite.
Biden said in his Pittsburgh speech, “And since they have no agenda or vision for a second term Trump and Pence are running on this: ‘You won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America.’ And what’s their proof? The violence you’re seeing in Donald Trump’s America.”
Twitter’s rules prohibit media that is “significantly and deceptively altered or manipulated.”
To all the triggered journalists who can't take a joke about their candidate, it's not our fault Joe Biden was dumb enough to say this on camera.

Donald Trump will deliver scathing criticism of Joe Biden in his Republican National Convention acceptance speech on the South Lawn of the White House. That’s a given.
The bigger question is whether Trump will address the unfolding crisis in Kenosha, Wi, and how he frames the police shooting death of Jacob Blake. Vice President Mike Pence made a fleeting reference to the unrest in the city in his speech on Wednesday, but he did not utter Jacob Blake’s name or go into details.
The rest of the evening will be devoted to a series of speakers, including Alice Johnson, a criminal justice reform advocate who was granted clemency by the president. But their stories of Trump’s acts of kindness, designed to soften his image, may contrast with other speakers, like Rudy Giuliani, better known as one of the president’s attack-dog defenders.

This week a photographer captured an image in the White House briefing room that quickly got the attention of the press corps: Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany’s file folder, in which she had neatly arranged possible topics as she faced reporters from the lectern.
Along with “golf,” “Barack Obama,” “BLM” and a number entries related to the coronavirus, there was “Karl.” That apparently was a reference to Jonathan Karl, ABC News’ chief White House correspondent who is completing a year-long term as president of the White House Correspondents’ Association.
That he was singled out is not altogether surprising: In a Washington Post op-ed last week, Karl wrote that McEnany’s briefings, the most visible part of her job, have turned into something resembling a campaign infomercial.
“Denying reality and using the White House podium for purely political purposes is a violation of public trust,” he wrote, adding that they “routinely...

President Donald Trump is taking his act on the road, heading to India for a rally and some deal-making on the subcontinent.
An eager Commander-in-Tweet fired off a few messages before departing, and told reporters gathered at the White House for his departure that he expects a huge turnout for his public appearances in Ahmedabad.
“I hear it’s going to be a big event. Some people say the biggest event they’ve ever had in India. That’s what the Prime Minister told me, this will be the biggest event they’ve ever had.”
While on the lawn, the President also took time to congratulate Bernie Sanders, albeit more respectfully than he did online, leaving out the “Crazy” nickname. He also announced online a big South Carolina rally for Thursday in his never-ending roadshow.

Update: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up her copy of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech and told reporters that tearing up the address was “the courteous thing to do considering the alternatives.”
Pelosi had been responding to a question from Fox News producer Jason Donner.
The moment was one of many that showed the deep partisan fissures in Congress. Trump did not mention impeachment during his speech, but it was certainly on many minds. The House impeachment managers sat together, while Trump showered praise on one of his biggest defenders, radio personality Rush Limbaugh, going to the extraordinary length of awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the address.
White House officials quickly tweeted out the moment when Pelosi tore up the speech.

Before heading out to the Trump National Golf Course this morning – it is Saturday, after all – President Donald Trump took some time to excoriate the leadership of California and New York. Both states face massive homeless problems that only appear to be getting worse.
The Commander-in-Tweet has taken notice: “If their Governors can’t handle the situation, which they should be able to very easily, they must call and “politely” ask for help. Would be so easy with competence!”
Consider this the President’s way of yelling, “Fore!”
We’ll post more communications as they come in. The tweetstorm so far:

Update, 10:07 Am Pt: As Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman was being grilled by the House Intelligence Committee during their impeachment inquiry, the White House sent out a tweet about his judgment.
“Tim Morrison, Alexander Vindman’s former boss, testified in his deposition that he had concerns about Vindman’s judgment,” the message read.
Vindman was questioned about his judgment during the hearing, but he defended his performance, citing a stellar review.

Vindman is still a member of the National Security Council. Morrison was the top presidential adviser on Russia and Europe on the Nsc until his resignation in October. He is testifying on Tuesday afternoon.
On Friday, Trump tweeted out an attack on another witness, former Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, as she testified.

Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman is a decorated combat veteran whose career in the armed services spanned more than two decades. Republicans are now trying to paint Vindman as having dual loyalty to Ukraine, the country he emigrated to the United States from as a small child.
During Vindman’s testimony before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, Republican Counsel Steve Castor asked Vindman about receiving an offer to serve as Ukraine’s defense minister. The implication was that Vindman may not have been working in the best interest of the...

The Dow has hit 28,000, its highest mark ever. So President Donald Trump couldn’t resist a dig in his weekend tweetstorm: “Gee, Pelosi & Schitt have a good idea, “Lets Impeach the President.”
The good financial news arrives after a week of Trump media flaming via the impeachment inquiry, a hearing where testimony was heard from people who either knew nothing or repeated information overheard others as a way to prove the truth of the matter asserted.
The Commander-in-Tweet also wants Louisiana voters to go the polls and elect Republican Eddie Rispone to the governership of that state. It’s a crucial contest for Trump, given the recent Democrat victories in Kentucky and Virginia.
We’ll update as more communications roll in. The tweetstorm so far:
Louisiana, 3 hours left, get out and Vote for @EddieRispone for Governor. Lower taxes and much more!

Fresh off a major rally in New Hampshire, President Donald Trump started off his Saturday tweetstorm by focusing on a brewing confrontation in Portland, Oregon between his supporters and the masked radical Antifa agitators.
Planned protests this weekend between left and right wing demonstrators could explode, as they have in that city in the past. President Trump and the Dept. of Justice have been keeping an eye on the situation, with yet another warning that Antifa bullying could result in further steps to curtail their activities.
We’ll keep an eye on Portland and on further tweetstorm activity as more rolls in. The tweetstorm so far:
I read that Trump rally was rambling/half-empty. I also read the opposite. I like to watch candidates' rallies myself so I can see… without the spin. I did so in 2016-16. It's not entirely why I predicted (starting in 15) Trump would win, but...

On Saturday, the president of the United States took to Twitter to whine about a recap published in the New York Times covering the backstory of what went wrong during his visits to both El Paso and Dayton this week, the scenes of two recent mass shootings.
The Times covered the now widely reported news of the two-month-old infant whose parents were both killed in El Paso. Although the infant had been released from the hospital, he was brought back for the sole purpose of a photo opportunity with the president and first lady.

President Donald Trump was benevolent in his Father’s Day Twitter addresses to the world. He honored the obvious, saluting Dads across the nation, a group including his “worst and most vicious critics,” and found time to give a shout-out to Fox News correspondent Pete Hegseth, who became engaged.
Those kindnesses out of the way, the Commander-in-Tweet also gloated about the low turnouts at nationwide impeachment rallies, and called for a poll on whether the New York Times or Washington Post is more dishonest and deceitful, a premise that may need slight adjusting.
The President also subtly poked the proverbial lion with an umbrella when he asked about a potential development at the end of his next term. “Do you think the people would demand that I stay longer?”
The tweetstorm so far:
Almost 70% in new Poll say don’t impeach. So ridiculous to even be talking about this subject...

Fox News today is standing by its host Laura Ingraham, who is taking flak for comments she made Thursday during a segment about how social media is silencing “prominent” voices.
The segment began with her take on Nancy Pelosi ripping Facebook for not deleting a slowed-down video that appears to show the House Majority Leader as being drunk. It evolved into Ingraham defending “prominent voices censored on social media” — which is not the first time she has opined on that topic.
She then put up the graphic that showed the names and faces of several people who have been censored and/or banned on Facebook, Twitter, etc. “Facebook now, what do they monitor? Quote, hate? That sounds good until you realize hate.” Among those pictured were usual suspects Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopoulos, et al., but also listed was Paul Nehlen, a two-time congressional also-ran whose racist, anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim...

September 11th is the most solemn day on the U.S. calendar. The terrorist attacks that left nearly 3,000 people dead 17 years ago are still fresh in the minds of many, and no occasion calls for a greater show of reverence and respect, especially from the nation’s commander-in-chief. President Trump commemorated the fallen Tuesday morning by watching a DVR’d episode of Lou Dobbs Tonight and tweeting about the Russia investigation.
“We have found nothing to show collusion between President Trump & Russia, absolutely zero, but every day we get more...

It took roughly four hours for Nathan Bernard to build a direct line to the President.
Bernard, an app developer and self-taught coder, noticed the same handful of pro-Trump Twitter accounts consistently responding first each time Donald sent out one of his grammatically questionable, 140-character-or-less messages in the months leading up to the 2016 election .
“I built a faster bot than those guys,” Bernard says over the phone.
At the time, Twitter’s mobile timeline was chronological, so it only needed to be quicker by a few fractions of a second – but it was.

President Donald Trump went live across broadcast and cable news networks at 6:01 Pt tonight to announce that he has authorized precision air strikes on targets in Syria.
“A short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,” the president said in a nearly 8-minute address. Watch it above; the transcript is below.
Trump did not offer many details of the strikes but said they would continue until the chemical attacks cease. But that statement was refuted less than an hour later during a Pentagon press briefing by Defense Secretary Gen. James Mattis and Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mattis stressed that tonight’s action was a one-time shot purely on chemical weapons facilities. You can watch that news conference below.
