The Marvel Cinematic Universe lost its biggest hero when Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man fell in Avengers: Endgame, but not after saving the day/Earth 616. Ever since then, the MCU has struggled to create the kind of projects that made it such a global success in the first place.
While most fans have asked for Kevin Feige and company to focus on originality and come up with new narratives that delve into the wealth of characters the Comics have on offer, some have also pressed for a Robert Downey Jr. return. Whether that is a potential option especially considering the actor’s own wishes, Feige had previously claimed they would ‘never want to mafically undo’ Stark’s heroic death.

Fans of all fandoms have one thing in common, they often get attached to their favourite characters. Hence when a beloved character dies, they cannot seem to rest in a reality where they no longer exist. While this is quite a normal, human reaction, they often think of ways that these characters could come back. They get resurrected, they were never really dead, they were simply sleeping; theories spill faster than pouring rain.

With the Marvel Comics we know today being founded in 1939 (originally known as Timely Comics), there are decades of stories and characters ready to be adapted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Navigating a Galactus-sized franchise like the MCU means we expected some characters would be lost to the Multiverse.
Whether it’s old favourites stopping by for a cameo or a brand-new addition being saved for another day, it’s more than the odd scene being left on the cutting room floor. Sometimes, whole characters are given the boot and banished to Gorr the God Butcher’s Shadow Realm. Saddle up because here are 12 characters who were once cut from the MCU.

Katherine Langford has yet to miss in her young career.
The Australian actor already has a mighty impressive resume that includes two hit Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why and Cursed, as well as two esteemed films in Knives Out and Love, Simon. In her latest return to the screen, Langford stars in Brian Duffield’s Spontaneous, a high-concept sci-fi comedy that is currently registering a 97% score among Rotten Tomatoes critics.
Spontaneous focuses on Langford’s Mara and her budding relationship with Charlie Plummer’s Dylan. The catch is that their love story begins amid a rising pandemic involving spontaneously exploding teenagers at their high school. Even though the film was shot in early 2018, the film has direct parallels to the novel coronavirus pandemic, something none of the creatives could have seen coming.

We’re used to familiar faces from the DC multiverse turning up for cameo roles in The CW’s TV shows, but we weren’t expecting one of the stars of the highest-grossing Marvel (or otherwise) movie of all time to show up in Stargirl. The DC Universe/CW series reached its season 1 finale this week and it featured a brief role from an actress most known for her fan favorite part in Avengers: Endgame.
In “Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. Part 2,” Stargirl and the Justice Society had to work fast to stop the Injustice Society from brainwashing the whole country. The first stage of the villains’ evil plan involved Brainwave controlling all the adults in Blue Valley, leaving them frozen to the spot. To personify the horror of what’s happening, we witness a scared young girl trying to wake her dad from this strange state.

As the final installment of a decade-long story arc that encompassed 22 movies, Avengers: Endgame is packed with enough plot threads and characters to fill at least three films, and it remains an incredible achievement that the Russo brothers managed to pull it off as successfully as they did.
With so much story to tell and one of the most stacked casts ever seen in the same movie though, it was inevitable that a lot of footage would end up being left on the cutting room floor. Of course, one of the highest-profile omissions was that of Katherine Langford, with the 13 Reasons Why star having filmed a scene as an older version of Tony Stark’s daughter Morgan that was ultimately cut from the theatrical release.

Even at three hours long, Avengers: Endgame still didn’t have the chance to give every major member of the cast something important to do, which is to be expected when the conclusion to the Infinity Saga had rounded up perhaps the most star-studded ensemble ever gathered on the big screen. It was smart storytelling on the filmmakers’ part to use the Snap in order to focus the majority of the plot on the original lineup of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, because if the entire roster had been around then the movie would have lost an awful lot of focus.
There were even some characters left on the cutting room floor, including actress Katherine Langford as an older version of Morgan Stark, while the final scene at Tony Stark’s funeral featured some big names showing up for a brief second without even saying a word. The advent of Disney Plus last November meant we got a look at a bunch of Avengers: Endgame deleted scenes that we never saw before. One of the more notable was a sequence originally intended to slot in after Iron Man uses the Infinity Stones at the movie’s climax. In one sense, the scene adds an extra emotional weight to Tony’s sacrifice and also gives him some more closure. However, in another, it arguably opens up a massive plot hole, so perhaps it’s for the best that it was removed from the final cut.

Fans had so many questions about the nuts and bolts of Avengers: Endgame once they got to see it back in April. And after all these months, many of them have now been answered thanks to the release of the movie’s script. Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely’s mammoth 149-page screenplay has arrived online and features additional scenes and descriptions that better explain certain parts of the film.
In particular, the script helps clear up any mystery over a few characters’ ages. We’ve previously reported on how it confirms that the elderly Steve Rogers is officially 112 years old by the time he’s sitting on that bench but what’s more is that it also reveals exactly how old two of the Avengers’ offspring are in Endgame. Namely, Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Emma Furhmann) and Morgan Stark (Lexi Rabe), child of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts.

Though it wasn’t expected to arrive until December 11th, the Powers That Be over at Walt Disney caught Marvel fans by surprise when they announced that Avengers: Endgame, easily the biggest and most ambitious McU movie to date, was coming to Disney+ at launch – more than four weeks ahead of schedule.
With it came another look at the Black Widow deleted scene, and a rather quaint moment between Tony Stark and the all-grown-up Morgan, which occurs within the Soul Stone a la Infinity War. Turns out the latter wasn’t actually included in the home video release, though it’s fair to say that the Endgame Blu-ray looks substantially better than its Disney+ equivalent. True, the streaming service is still finding its feet after rolling out across select territories earlier this month (a UK release is penciled in for March 2020), but early adopters expected better. Much better.

Disney Plus recently launched with Avengers: Endgame as part of its initial line-up and alongside it were new deleted scenes not included in the previous home release. One of the most interesting was a scene that’d have followed Tony Stark’s death, featuring him meeting his daughter as an adult in the afterlife. Now played by Katherine Langford, she assures him that his sacrifice wasn’t in vain and that everything worked out alright.
It’s easy to see it was removed, as it’s kind of cheesy, doesn’t make a great deal of sense and under-cuts Stark’s sacrifice. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo recently explained though exactly why they left it on the editing room floor, saying:

At 181 minutes in length, Avengers: Endgame is a gargantuan film even before you consider those scenes that remained on the cutting room floor.
But there is one scene, in particular, that sparked some debate among Marvel fans after it leaked onto the interwebs. And we’ll give you a clue: it involves one Tony Stark.
Yes, had things panned out differently, Endgame would’ve included a poignant moment for Rdj’s fallen hero and the all-grown-up Morgan Stark, who meet within the Soul World soon after the film’s grand finale. Turns out Anthony and Joe Russo decided to cut the afterlife scene in fear of including too many endings, and via Inverse, the latter added some clarity to those comments, stating that Tony Stark’s sacrifice felt more impactful without the added Soul Stone scene.
Part of the process is we go through a long period of exploration when we make these films.

As the culmination of the twenty-two movie Infinity Saga, Avengers: Endgame unsurprisingly boasted one of the most impressive and star-powered ensemble casts ever. There was barely enough screentime for the majority of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to go around, never mind the supporting characters and cameo players that all featured in the movie’s three-hour running time.
Some actors didn’t even make it off the cutting room floor, including 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford. The actress was announced to be part of Endgame’s sprawling roster months before the movie hit theaters, only for fans to discover that she didn’t even make the final cut. In the months since, it was revealed that the 23 year-old was playing an older version of Tony Stark’s daughter Morgan, with a recently-released deleted scene showing the emotionally-charged reunion between the two in the Soul World after Tony gives up his life to save the world.

Avengers: Endgame treated fans to pretty much everything they could’ve wanted, but even in a 3-hour movie the filmmakers could only squeeze in so much. For instance, Avengers: Infinity War kicked off with Thanos besting Hulk in a brawl, something which begged to be resolved with a rematch in the sequel. However, no such duel occurred. But now, this newly-revealed concept art teases what could’ve been.
The artwork was shared at D23 over the weekend, with some snaps of the pieces soon ending up online, courtesy of Reddit user WilderOrcada. One shows what you might call the Iron Family – Iron Man, Rescue, War Machine and Spider-Man – blasting through the sky, while another captures a moving kiss between Tony and Pepper on the battlefield. The most satisfying, though, has to be the concept art of Smart Hulk finally getting the better of the Mad Titan with a mean right hook.

Seven-year-old actress Lexi Rabe, who was recently seen as Morgan Stark in Avengers: Endgame, has today issued a statement to the world: “please don’t bully me.” Pull the plug; the Internet was a mistake.

It’s no secret that Avengers: Endgame, with its time travel and beyond epic final battle, signaled the end of so many McU sagas.
To begin with, there was Steve Rogers finally reuniting with Peggy Carter after years – nay, decades – spent away from one another, while Thor Odinson handed over the keys to Asgard and joined up with the Guardians of the Galaxy… much to the chagrin of Star-Lord. But if there was one truly significant moment in Avengers: Endgame, it involved the late Tony Stark, who sacrificed his life in order to defeat the Mad Titan once and for all. And what a moment it was.
Like every other Marvel fan, we were heartbroken over Iron Man’s death, but certainly not surprised. After all, Robert Downey Jr.’s genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist had a bit of a habit of laying his life down on the line when Earth...

13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford was supposed to show up in Avengers: Endgame, but her role got cut. We now know who she played.
Warning: Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame ahead!
Avengers: Endgame certainly doesn’t need us, or anyone, to rhetorically butter its bread any further, having just passed $2 billion worldwide at the box office in only its second week. – It’s the biggest movie ever… ‘nuff said. However, for former 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford, who played a role in the film, Endgame will likely stand as a bittersweet CV entry, since her performance was left on the cutting room floor by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who just revealed what character she played.
In an interview on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Russo Brothers finally confirmed Katherine Langford’s mystery role in Avengers: Endgame as Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan Stark, or more specifically,...

When audiences walked into Avengers: Endgame, one member of the cast was nowhere to be found on the big screen: Katherine Langford.
In October, news broke that the 13 Reasons Why star had filmed scenes for the fourth Avengers film, and speculation swirled about who she could be playing. Hawkeye protege Katy Bishop? A grown version of Ant-Man's daughter Cassie? Death herself? It turns out, she had been cast as an adult version of Morgan Stark, daughter of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).

Late last year, it was announced that 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford had signed up to join Avengers: Endgame in a mysterious role. Various theories surrounded the casting, with a common one suggesting she could be playing Kate Bishop. When the movie arrived in April, however, Langford was nowhere to be seen, leaving fans to wonder what character was she supposed to portray and why was she cut?
Now, the Russo brothers have finally revealed the answer. While speaking to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, the filmmakers confirmed that Langford was brought onboard to play an older version of Tony and Pepper’s daughter Morgan Stark. Though the role was always going to be portrayed by Lexi Rabe for the most part, Langford would have appeared in a vision Tony would’ve experienced following his use of the Infinity Gauntlet.

Once we all decide that it’s okay to start discussing the details of Avengers: Endgame, you can imagine that social media is going to be flooded with memes that give new life to the film’s most memorable moments.
In the meantime, one line that’s already managed to get a little traction – and has even been shared by the Twitter accounts of Marvel Studios and the cast – is the young Morgan Stark’s declaration to her father, “I love you 3,000.” And as it turns out, the phrase originated from one of the real-life children of Robert Downey Jr.
Speaking to Chinese outlet Watching Hollywood, Endgame co-director Anthony Russo explained how Downey once relayed to them a time when his child said to him, “I love you 3000.” Evidently, the Russo Brothers thought it was an endearing enough phrase to base a whole motif around.

Warning: Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame ahead!
If you're emotionally gutted from the intense showdown in Avengers: Endgame, you're not alone. The losses kicked us all right in the heart parts, but so did the hopeful moments, including the very welcome introduction of Iron Man and Pepper Potts's adorable daughter, Morgan Stark. If you doubted him before, Tony's love for his child was definitive proof that he had a heart. Still, did Iron Man really have a kid in the comics? The answer is complicated, and Morgan Stark, while an established character, is completely different outside of the McU.
Tony and Pepper's Relationship in the Comics
Pepper and Tony don't quite have a cut-and-dried romance in the comics. His loyal assistant actually ends up marrying his bodyguard Happy Hogan. They didn't have children of their own, but they did happen to adopt for a while. Fast forward to the Civil War storyline in the comics,...

In the wake of Avengers: Endgame’s record-breaking debut, Mark Ruffalo has shared a message thanking both his fans and all the theater employees who had to work over this very busy weekend.
In a new tweet, the Hulk actor shared the film’s latest TV spot (which arguably spoils more from the movie than Ruffalo ever did), along with the following message:
“Thank you to everyone that went to see #Endgame is weekend, reminding us how great it is to watch movies with others. And a special thank you to the people working at theaters this weekend. Love you 3000”

With the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s 11-year Infinity Saga has finally come to a close. And as the first era of the McU gives way to the next, Marvel Studios has shared a quick (and somewhat spoiler-y) message to the fans.
The tweet includes a short video thanking filmgoers for being a part of the Marvel universe, along with the following text:
“Thank you to all the fans around the world for being part of our universe. We love you 3000. #AvengersEndgame”
That last sentence is a reference to a line from Morgan Stark, who says she loves her father 3000 in one of the earliest scenes of Endgame. Tony later repeats the line back to his daughter at the end of the movie in a recorded message.

While the concluding genocide of last year’s Avengers: Infinity War ensured that Avengers: Endgame didn’t have to juggle quite so many characters in its early minutes, the new movie ultimately boasted the largest cast of any McU flick to date. And in a new Reddit post, user spanish-thumb has ambitiously tried listing every named character who shows up in the film’s 3-hour runtime. Needless to say, spoilers lie ahead.
The list starts off with all the heroes who traveled back in time to acquire the Infinity Stones:
Iron Man/Tony Stark Captain America/Steve Rogers Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff Hulk/Bruce Banner Thor Hawkeye/Ronin/Clint Barton Nebula Rocket War Machine/James Rhodes Ant-Man/Scott Lang
Next up is all the characters that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes encounter during their journey into the past:

Avengers: Endgame is packed with Marvel Comics references and McU callbacks. We're tracking 'em all down.
This article consists of nothing but massive Avengers: Endgame spoilers. You’ve been warned. We have a completely spoiler free review right here.
Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of 11 years of Marvel Cinematic Universe storytelling. That’s a whopping 22 McU movies, each of which has been packed with deep lore from the pages of Marvel Comics. That makes for plenty of Marvel Easter eggs that can be hunted down by fans and scholars.
But Avengers: Endgame is the first of these films not concerned with setting up sequels or even introducing new characters. Instead, it’s a celebration of all that has come before, and a genuine conclusion for the 22 movie saga. It also owes as much of a debt to Marvel’s big screen history as it does to the comics.

In “Avengers: Infinity War,” Tony Stark’s life is about to change drastically, as he’s become engaged to Pepper Potts. Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) even tells Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) about a dream he had that convinces him Pepper is going to have a baby.
Tony tells Pepper that the dream was so vivid, he thinks there must be some reality to it. Tony even has a name from the dream: Morgan, named after Pepper’s uncle. It’s a cute moment, but one interrupted when Thanos shows up.
Though most of “Infinity War” is concerned with the battle to stop Thanos (Josh Brolin) from gathering the Infinity Stones and wiping out half of all life in the universe, the tease that Tony and Pepper might have a kid seems significant to the potential future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And Paltrow has seemingly confirmed that Pepper and Tony would, in fact, have a child, maybe by “Avengers 4.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken quite a few liberties as it adapts Marvel comics stories, and Tony Stark having a child would be a big liberty. In fact, there’s only been one instance of Tony having children in the comics, and it happens in an alternative future.
In “The Invincible Iron Man” #500, a sequence set 41 years in the future imagines a world dominated by Iron Man villain the Mandarin, who is defeated by an aged Tony, with the help of his son, Howard Anthony Stark, and granddaughter, Ginny Stark. (Ev en though Tony and Howard die in the process.)
There is, however, a Morgan Stark in the comics. But he’s not Pepper’s uncle or Tony’s son — he’s Tony’s cousin. Morgan’s father, Edward, gave away his stake in the Stark family business to Tony’s father, Howard, and Morgan grows up so envious of Tony that he eventually becomes something of a villain.
Morgan is involved in several schemes over the years. In one instance he’s forced to try to destroy Tony and Stark Industries to pay off a gambling debt to baddie Count Nefaria. In another, he teams with Stark rival Moroboshi International, but after War Machine and Tony stop him, he’s seemingly assassinated via car crash caused by Moroboshi agents.

Morgan later returns as a cyborg (the car crash didn’t kill him but it messed him up bad), who has the ability to control things through the Internet. Morgan tries to use this power to take control of Iron Man’s various armored suits, but is once again stopped when Tony orders the suits to self-destruct. Morgan is apparently killed in the explosion.
But — you know where we’re going with this — Morgan pops yet again, generally less evil, thanks to some alternate universe shenanigans during the “Onslaught” crossover even. He and Tony get along and Tony even helps him with a business project, but Morgan screws up when he tries to use Ultimo, a dormant robot from outer space, as a power source. Ultimo comes back to life and goes about destroying everything, only to be stopped by Iron Man. Shortly after, Morgan is — you guessed it — seemingly killed yet again.

It’s tough say what inspiration the comics’ “Morgan Stark” could provide for Tony and Pepper beyond the name. But with Paltrow’s apparent confirmation that Pepper might be pregnant or even a parent in “Avengers 4,” that could provide a pretty good reason for Tony to settle down and retire as a super hero — Obviously after dealing with the aftermath of “Infinity War.”
The only thing we can say for sure is that if the movies do include a Morgan Stark, he’s probably not going to be killed over and over. What might be more of a possibility, though, is an angry Uncle Morgan on the Potts side of the family. Maybe one with Internet powers. Maybe annoyed with young Morgan, his namesake, poised to inherit Stark Industries as well as the Iron Man mantle.
Then again, it’s hard to say what the future holds for any of the Avengers until we see how things with Thanos shake out in “Avengers 4” in May 2019.
We’ve spent a lot of time over the past few weeks digging through the details to try to figure out what’s coming not just in “Avengers 4” but also “Captain Marvel” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” We have come up with a pretty solid guess about what is involved in the one future Doctor Strange saw in which the Avengers defeat Thanos. Early in “Avengers: Infinity War,” before the whole deal with Thanos trying to kill half of the universe with the Infinity Stones gets going on Earth, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts talk about having a baby.
Turns out, it might be more than talk.
Eagle-eyed Twitter user ashley__renae tweeted a photo of an excerpt of what she says is an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, in “Marvel’s Official Avengers: Infinity War” magazine. Marvel did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
As Cbr reports, in it, Paltrow describes the growth of the relationship between Potts and Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), which grew from Potts working as Stark’s assistant, to taking over Stark Industries as CEO, and finally becoming romantic (and a bit rocky) over the course of 10 years of McU movies. In “Infinity War,” the pair are finally taking the next step by getting married — although Tony’s involvement in the fight to stop Thanos (Josh Brolin) might have an effect on that.

In the interview, it’s Paltrow’s use of the present tense when talking about the later stages of their relationship that has fans thinking she might have confirmed what’s next for her character and Tony Stark.

“Pepper and Tony have had a really long journey together,” Paltrow said in the interview. “She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.”

Some fans are thinking this means “Avengers 4” will be set years after the events of “Infinity War,” which seems like a leap. It sounds a lot more like Paltrow, talking about the last decade of McU movies, is confirming that she and Tony are going to have a baby, something that’s not in “Infinity War.” In that movie, Tony and Pepper are planning their wedding, and early in the movie Tony tells her about a dream he had in which she was pregnant. It was so real, he says, that he’s convinced it has to be true, but Pepper denies it. This quote suggests that there might be something to his dream after all.
Then again, Paltrow’s discussion of Tony and Pepper already being married when they aren’t in “Infinity War” could mean the story changed at some point. Since “Infinity War” left the Thanos situation unresolved, it seems unlikely that Tony and Pepper would stop to have their wedding. Then again, this could suggest something of a time skip forward. And Tony’s suggestion they name the future kid Morgan could be portentous, too — there’s a Morgan Stark in the comics, although he’s Tony’s cousin, not son.
If there’s a baby on the way in “Avengers 4,” though, that could confirm some potential theories about where the McU is headed in the future. At the very least, it would provide Tony a good reason to retire from superheroing, which seems likely since Downey’s McU contract ends with “Avengers 4” in 2019. If he hangs up the Iron Man suit to become a family man, that would allow Marvel to keep Tony around for occasional cameos and assistance in the McU — and that feels more likely than killing the character off.

It would also provide a potential heir for the Iron Man mantle somewhere down the line, too.
