Before scoring three Oscar nominations this year for Netflix’s Maestro — including best picture, actor and original screenplay (the latter shared with Josh Singer) — Bradley Cooper had already garnered an impressive nine Academy Award nominations as an actor (Silver Linings Playbook in 2013, American Hustle in 2014, American Sniper in 2015 and A Star Is Born in 2019), a producer (American Sniper, A Star Is Born, Joker in 2020 and Nightmare Alley in 2022) and a writer (A Star Is Born). His latest crop of nods makes him a 12-time nominee across those three categories and one of the most successful multi-hyphenates working in film today.
So it’s fitting that the star would take on Leonard Bernstein as the subject for his sophomore feature, which features Cooper as the enigmatic composer and conductor — with co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan playing Bernstein’s wife, Felicia Montealegre. The producers behind “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Maestro” and more Oscar-nominated films sat down to break down their respective projects at Variety FYC Fest: The Producers. The conversations were moderated by Variety’s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay and senior awards editor Clayton Davis.
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ Producer Daniel Lupi on Filming in Oklahoma, Striving for Authenticity
Producer Daniel Lupi became involved in “Killers of the Flower Moon” after the script was rewritten to center the relationship between Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Burkhart (Lily Gladstone), contrasting from the original version of the script where DiCaprio was playing FBI agent Tom White. Lupi said Martin Scorsese described the new version as a “who didn’t do it.”

Comedian Hannah Berner, who was named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” for 2023, is set to record her first comedy special for Netflix. The hour-long special will be taped in Philadelphia, Pa., at the Fillmore on Sat., March 23. Tickets are now on sale exclusively at www.HannahBerner.com and also available on Ticketmaster.
“This is probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to me,” Berner tells Variety. “I’m in love with the hour that I’ve been touring for a while now, and I’m honored that Netflix wants to showcase my silly bits. I’m excited for my standup to reach a larger audience and to celebrate the community of bad ass women and scared boyfriends, mothers and zaddies that got me to this point.”

Josh Singer takes a lot of notes. For an in-demand screenwriter like him that makes sense, but Singer’s latest project, Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro,” required even more copious files and neat notes. After all, Singer has been working on it for over a decade.
Over a recent Zoom interview with IndieWire, Singer narrated a little bit of his typical notes-finding experience: “Hold on, let me go into files. I’m going into my Bernstein file, which is very long, and then I’m going into, Ok, here: Essentially, in 2008 [producers] Fred Berner and Amy Durning approached the Bernstein family, and they wound up, over the next two years, negotiating life rights.”
This is just the start of the odyssey. By 2010, the producers started looking for a director. Sometime around 2013, they locked in Martin Scorsese to direct. Soon after, they came knocking at Singer’s door.

“That goes, I think, directly to the core of what we do as producers is there are going to be problems, there are going to be setbacks. That is guaranteed,” says “Rustin” producer Bruce Cohen about managing the challenges that arise on any film set. “If we’ve done a good job of prepping the film, that’s really our job on the set is you’re literally just standing there waiting for people to bring you the problems of the day.”

Hannah Berner grew up dreaming of being a professional tennis player before becoming a viral sensation with comedy bits like “Han on the Street.” Nimesh Patel turned his experience with being diagnosed with testicular cancer into a heralded comedy special, “Lucky Lefty.” And Kurtis Conner was working at Starbucks when a frequent customer encouraged him to get into comedy.

When Kate Chastain helped to launch Bravo‘s Chat Room during the pandemic, she envisioned spicy banter delivered evenly amongst the Bravoleb hosts. But what ended up happening was red flag chemistry, which prompted Chastain to step away before the show was sunsetted.
She returns again for another talk show-type format, spilling tea on a variety of Bravo shows – similar to Chat Room but more in the format of Below Deck Galley Talk. Chastain also has only one co-host; someone who she’s already established strong chemistry with – Captain Lee Rosbach.
Bravo recently announced Couch Talk with Captain Lee and Kate where the Below Deck alum will watch “Below Deck Down Under S2, Ultimate Girls Trip S3, Rhoc, Rhom, Project Runway, Rhoa, Rhony, Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake.”

Welcome to Creators on the Rise, where we find and profile breakout creators who are in the midst of extraordinary growth.
Like many of our other Creators on the Rise featurees, Abby Berner didn’t set out to build an audience on social media.
Instead, she set out to get those gains.
Berner has always been a doer of many things. In high school, she did four years of varsity bowling, and was so accomplished at it that colleges offered her bowling scholarships. At the same time, she was into powerlifting, and was so accomplished at that that she actually transferred schools to be able to start an official powerlifting team.
It was powerlifting that led her into yet another pursuit: YouTube.

Summer House season 7 is in full swing on Bravo and season 8 should begin filming this summer. Many Hamptons housemates have come and gone over the years, and so have many friendships. Both Paige DeSorbo and Hannah Berner joined the share house in season 3, but Berner left the series after only 3 years.
DeSorbo remains on the show with castmates Kyle Cooke, Amanda Batula, Lindsay Hubbard, Carl Radke, Danielle Olivera, Mya Allen, and Ciara Miller. In addition, newbies Chris Leon, Samantha Feher, and Gabby Prescod joined the house this season.
How did Paige DeSorbo feel after Hannah Berner left ‘Summer House’?
Berner left the reality show in 2021 after a lot of drama with Amanda Batula and her now-husband Kyle Cook. DeSorbo was close with both women and often felt stuck in the middle. She admitted to being shocked when her friend decided to exit but she did feel a sense of relief.

The Death Row catalog is back on streaming services one year after Snoop Dogg pulled the albums with the promise of building a platform of his own.
Led by Snoop’s first two albums, Doggystyle and Tha Doggfather, the groundbreaking Death Row catalog also boasts 2Pac’s All Eyez on Me and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, as well as Tha Dogg Pound’s Dogg Food, Lady of Rage’s Necessary Roughness, and Kurupt’s Against the Grain. The classic soundtracks for Murder Was the Case, Above the Rim, and Gridlock’d are also included.
Last month, the label’s other magnum opus, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, returned to streaming after its rights reverted back to Interscope Records. Meanwhile, the Death Row catalog was brought back after Snoop sold a stake in the label to former Apple Music executive Larry Jackson’s new music company gamma back in December.
