Stefanos Tsitsipas always underlined the importance of popularizing tennis in Greece as his goal, as he wants to see it grow in the future.
Tsitsipas grew up loving tennis, but it's not something many of his countrymen share. The country is a sport-loving nation; however, that's mostly reserved for football or basketball, which are far more popular than tennis in Greece.
Even so, the sport is experiencing a growing popularity thanks to Tsitispas and Maria Sakkari, who have been among the best players in the world for a while now and showed it also at the 2024 United Cup, where the Greek player spoke about growing the sport in the country.
He's always spoken fondly about his country and wants to see the sport grow, underlining it as one of his dreams. To see it through, he's devised a plan to be executed in the coming years.

Alexander Zverev was Germany's Mvp in previous matches, but today, the German came up a little bit short against Alex de Minaur.
It's been a very interesting run for Germany at the United Cup as they had to pull through a couple of times. Zverev was the absolute Mvp delivering some crucial wins like the one over Stefanos Tsitsipas a few days ago.
Kerber on the other hand struggled mostly but pulled through today for her first win as a mother. It was exactly what Germany needed as it gave Zverev the chance to push them into the final with a win. It started well as Zverev won a pretty close opening set.
Neither played did much in that set on the return, but eventually, Zverev got the break chance, and he broke to win it 7-5. Things slightly changed in the second set as neither was as impressive on the serve.

Former US Open doubles champion Coco Vandeweghe picked Alexander Zverev as the 2024 Australian Open favourite.
The former Wta player was part of the Tennis Channel panel discussing the upcoming Grand Slam. Asked by the host about the favorites at the event, Coco avoided the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, and took dark horse Zverev.
While the pick might seem silly at first glance, there are some reasons why it kind of makes sense. The courts Down Under play pretty fast, and that's certainly something that Zverev can use to his advantage.
His serve is one of the best when it's really clicking, and if it clicks for two weeks, then, he could win it. He's one of those players who can cover the court really well due to his dimensions, and if he limits the mistakes from the baseline, he could be a really tough player to beat.

One of the most popular tennis-playing siblings on the men's tour is that of Stefanos Tsitsipas and his younger brother Petros Tsitsipas.
Hailing from a country without a rich tennis heritage, the story of the Tsitsipas brothers resonates with almost every other sibling with aspirations of one day making it to the top level of the pro tour. All they had was a dream, but both have become tennis figureheads back home.
Stefanos, who is 25 and the older of the two, is entrenched in the world's Top 10 and has been there for a while. He has headlined two Grand Slam finals in the past, finishing runner-up at the 2021 Roland Garros and more recently at the 2023 Australian Open.
Petros, 23, for his part, has risen to become a doubles specialist and is ranked in the world's Top 100 in that discipline. While growing up in Greece, they converted their parents' basement into a tennis court,...

Friday at the United Cup is all about Alexander Zverev, who proved the hero of his country. The first match between the nations happened early this morning, with Maria Sakkari destroying Angelique Kerber in two simple sets.
That gave Stefanos Tsitsips a chance to seal it for his country but ultimately he couldn't find the tennis needed to down Zverev. A simple two-set win to set up this crucial doubles which featured Zverev but didn't feature Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Angelique Kerber will head the Adelaide International, not just as an alternate but as a main draw contender in the second Wta 500 event of the brand-new tennis season.
The 2024 Adelaide International will kick off on January 8th and run till January 13th, a day before the Australian Open. Several players ranked in the world's Top 20 have already confirmed their participation at the event, including Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Marketa Vondrousova.
Kerber is currently part of Germany's team competing in the second edition of the United Cup. The 35-year-old returned to action for the first time since 2022 Wimbledon in Sydney, where Germany qualified for the quarterfinal as the best runner-up in the city.
They'll face one of the tournament favorites, Greece, who are led by the effervescent pair of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari on Friday. Kebrer has accounted for two losses in singles against Italy's Jasmine Paolini and France's Caroline Garcia.

Alexander Zverev played a pretty flawless match against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the United Cup to beat him in two sets.
This was a pretty good match for both players because both showed a pretty decent level. Zverev is uniquely equipped to counter Tsitsipas with his super solid play from the baseline, and he certainly annoyed me with that today.
One thing that Tsitsipas has that can counter that is the serve, yet it never quite showed up the way it could have in this one. It was a problem because he couldn't save himself with the serve when he found himself in that one game where things weren't going well.
That's how the match basically went. Tsitsipas was pretty solid on his serve, finding some good solutions with the forehand, or some volley or even the occasional backhand down the line. However, when that one bad game came, he couldn't find a solution.

The 2024 Barcelona Open has received a major boost, with local hero Carlos Alcaraz set to return to the Atp 500 event this year.
The tournament will feel like a long time away for the Spaniard. Alcaraz's next matches are exhibitions at the Australian Open, which includes a repeat of the 2022 US Open final with Casper Ruud.
However, the clay-court season is undoubtedly one that Alcaraz looks forward to every year. It is the surface that he grew up on, and how comfortable he feels on the dirt is clear for everyone to see.
Alcaraz is yet to translate that clay-court prowess into a triumph at the French Open. However, most in the tennis world agree it is only a matter of time before that changes. Some argue that he would have beaten Novak Djokovic in last year's semifinal, had cramp not set in.

It's been only a few days in the new season, and we already have a blockbuster showdown as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Alexander Zverev in the 2024 United Cup.
Over the past few years, we've seen many of these Tsitsipas - Zverev battles, and they've been quite interesting. Both players are among some of the best players that we have nowadays, making this early blockbuster a really enticing proposition.
On one side, we have Tsitsipas, who claims to be healthy but doesn't really look all that healthy. He's been dealing with a back issue dating back to last year and missed a few matches already this year.
We'll see how he handles this matchup against Zverev that could possibly go long as the German has the ability to extend rallies.
It doesn't mean that he will, but he might be smart enough to do so, as his general approach doesn't really work against Tsitsipas.

Maria Sakkari had a lot of issues against Leylah Fernandez, but she prevailed in the end, securing Greece's spot in the 2024 United Cup quarter-finals.
After Stefanos Tsitsipas won his singles match, Maria Sakkari was in a position to secure her country's spot in the quarter-final. She needed to beat Leylah Fernandez to do so, and that's not an easy thing to do.
She found out herself when the Canadian started to blast winners left and right. Fernandez suddenly rose at the end of last year, and she's certainly carried over the confidence to this year.
It was a match she needed to win, and she played like it. An early 2-0 lead wasn't held, but she kept pushing and would get more chances in the coming games.

Felix Auger-Aliassime had a disappointing 2023 campaign on the Atp Tour, and the 2024 season isn't starting any better.
At the end of the 2022 season, the Canadian won three consecutive titles, while winning 16 straight matches, and thanks to the late push, he qualified for his maiden Atp Finals, finishing the year as the world no. 6 in the Atp Rankings.
However, last year, Auger-Aliassime struggled with physical problems and form, and slowly but surely, he started falling down the rankings, exiting the Top 10 in June, and never returning into it, eventually ending the year as the world no. 29.
Ahead of the new season, the 23-year-old admitted that he would like to improve his ability to recover from injuries, and his first two matches, which did not happen, just prove that.

Stefanos Tsitsipas skipped over his 2024 United Cup singles match just to play the mixed doubles, and he explained why after the match.
Tsitsipas was actually getting ready to play the singles match because event cameras caught him in the locker room working on getting ready. He didn't seem to be ready, though, so when he finally pulled out, nobody was really shocked by it.
He's dealt with a back injury dating back to last year, and it also affected him recently at the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi. He was adamant that it's much better than before which might be true, but that doesn't mean it's 100%.
I'm much better than what I was a month ago. I wasn't 100% sure that I will have the chance to play the United Cup. It didn't really cross my mind when I was considering my comeback. I went through tough times at the end of the year.

Novak Djokovic has extended his dominance at the top of the Atp rankings by posting his 406th week as World No. 1.
As the Atp season begins on a clean slate in 2024, Djokovic remains the only player with five-digit ranking points. The Serb has built an enormous lead over second-placed Carlos Alcaraz, which stretched to 2,390 points.
Alcaraz is not in action until the Australian Open, while Djokovic is playing in the United Cup, where he was instrumental in powering Serbia to an opening group-stage win over China in Perth.

Djokovic will have the chance to break a two-player tie for the most Grand Slams in tennis history (a record he shares with Australian tennis great Margaret Court) by winning a mind-boggling 11th Australian Open title. And here are five reasons why he is the man to beat Down Under.
5. Ultimate Grand Slam Record Holder

Stefanos Tsitsipas contested one Australian Open final in his career, and he felt like he could have won it even though he played against Novak Djokovic.
Playing against Novak Djokovic in Melbourne is never a good idea because he's the most successful man in the history of the Australian Open, as no player dominated more on that court than Djokovic.
Tsitsipas firmly believed that he could beat the Serbian, and technically, he could, but he didn't. The match wasn't that close, but Tsitispas had some moments where you saw a good enough level to win.
Ultimately, he didn't have it for long enough time during the match to really turn it around. Looking back, though, he feels he was close, as he spoke ahead of the 2024 United Cup.

Stefanos Tsitsipas generally plays really well in Australia, and while he's yet to win a major, he's certain that it will come.
The Greek came very close to that at last year's Australian Open as he went to the final but couldn't overcome Novak Djokovic, who lifted his 10th Australian Open. It wasn't the first Grand Slam final Tsitsipas lost to Djokovic, but it was a significant match for him.
They were scenes he couldn't easily forget, standing there with the runner-up trophy while his opponent, as legendary as he is, was lifting his tenth. Not first, not second, not fifth, but tenth.
That certainly put things into perspective for Tsitsipas, and it's a loss he still thinks about. He doesn't think about it because he can't process it, no, that happened a long time ago.
He thinks about it to learn and prepare for the next time he's in that position.

January last year not only brought us a lot of tennis in Australia but also brought us the first season of Break Point, the Netflix tennis docu-series, which will air its second season in the coming weeks.
It was certainly an interesting watch for those who don't follow tennis as much, but as many pointed out, the first season of Break Point didn't show much of what die-hard tennis fans didn't know.
Sure, we saw how it looked from the inside, but it wasn't that revelatory. Despite all that, the series proved a success which is why it will be returning for a second season.
The first glimpse of the new season was posted by Netflix on social media, and it received some interesting responses. Fans were excited to see some newcomers such as Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, who are the future of tennis.

The 2024 Australian Open is set for a historic Sunday start and the prize money on offer will also be historic, with another increase compared to last year.
In 2023, players received a total of A$76.5 million in prize money across all competitions played at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. In 2024, the total prize money will be A$86.5 million, and on top of that, the points distribution changed too in 2024.
That applies only to men's tournament, as the Atp announced points distribution changes across all levels of competitions. The Wta did something similar, but that did not impact the Grand Slam tournaments.
On the men's entry list, Novak Djokovic is the name that stands out, as the ten-time Australian Open champion will be defending his title in Melbourne from January 14th to 28th, while his main rival, Rafael Nadal will be making comeback to tennis.

Stefanos Tsitsipas dealt with some back issues at the 2023 World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi and confirmed that he didn't quite get the preparation he wanted before the new season.
Tsitsipas has long enjoyed successful starts with the new season due to various factors. One major factor is that he took the offseason seriously and worked very hard to get ready for the new season.
That preparation and him generally loving to play in Australia with the big Greek community showing love usually helped him start fast. This year might be a bit different because Tsitsipas is still dealing with the back issue.
It bothered him heavily during the Atp Finals, resulting in a withdrawal from the event, and he skipped action in Abu Dhabi as well.

Men's tennis governing body, Atp, has unveiled a list of transformational changes to the Next Gen brand ahead of the 2024 season.
Back in 2017, the Atp launched the Next Gen Atp Finals tournament as part of its commitment to nurturing talent and improving young players' pathway to the top of the sport. Furthermore, the Atp had a duty to market and make more players accessible to the wider tennis community.
At the time, the Atp's bosses were clear in their overall strategy that changing of the guard was inevitable. Roger Federer, probably the household name in tennis, exited the stage. Federer's longtime rivals - Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray are also in the twilight of their careers.

Mirra Andreeva played some really solid tennis at the 2023 World Tennis League, and no rally demonstrated that better than the one in doubles against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The second time Stefanos Tsisipas and Paula Badosa teamed up at the World Tennis League was against Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev. They won the previous time they played together and then added a second win in that match; however, the highlight belonged to tennis phenom Mirra Andreeva.
The Russian essentially played the whole rally on her own against both Tsitsipas and Badosa, but mostly the Greek player. No matter what he tried, she had an answer, and ultimately, after exchanging top spins for a while, Andreeva was able to win the point for her team.

The new tennis season is getting closer, and there are players on the fringes of the Top 10 on the Atp Tour, looking to make a breakthrough.
Many of the names in the Top 10 have become consistent. Novak Djokovic is the most obvious example, but players like Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner have all become regulars in the Top 10.
Some players have briefly entered the Top 10, such as Frances Tiafoe, who recently parted ways with his coach, but others are hoping to make that breakthrough for the first time.
This article gives five players who have a chance of reaching the Top 10 in the Atp Rankings for the first time if they find their best tennis in 2024.
5. Tommy Paul
Tommy Paul had a remarkably consistent season in 2023. The highlights were an excellent semifinal run at the Australian Open, another semifinal at the Canadian Open, and two runner-ups in Acapulco and Eastbourne.

After skipping over action for two days, Stefanos Tsitsipas was elected to play the 2023 World Tennis League final and he succeeded with Paula Badosa.
Tsitsipas is part of the Kites, arguably the best team this week. He participated in doubles earlier in the week, debuting in mixed doubles with his girlfriend Badosa a few days ago.
The Tsitsidosa pairing showed up today for the final despite Tsitsipas being replaced at the event previously due to back issues. The U-turn surprised many because nobody really expected him to suit up, but there are some theories as to why he did.
A very likely one is that his back issues are mostly discomfort and not something too serious. A second theory is that he wanted to play one more match with his girlfriend, and on the court, it was clear why.

The World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi continued with the third match of the second tie of the day as Stefanos Tsitsipas and Grigor Dimitrov took on Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev.
The Russian combo had a lot of work to do because their team was trailing big time after the first two matches, 12-7. Erasing that lead would be quite complicated, so they approached the match very seriously.
Every game matters because of the unique format, which will be explained in the following sentences. Players are paired up in teams of four, with each tie between teams consisting of 5 matches. The duration of a match is one set, with three doubles and two singles matches being played.
Each game won in each match counts as one point, which matters most. At the end of each tie, the winning team is the one that has the most points, meaning the most games won.

Badosa and Tsitsipas had plans to team up for mixed doubles since they became a couple earlier this year. It didn't work out at Wimbledon and then at the US Open because the Spanish player was battling multiple injuries.
She's back to full health and returned at the World Tennis League, winning her first match back. It was a doubles match, so it was a solid return for Badosa, giving her team a good early start.
The unique format makes these doubles matches really important, so make sure you read the format breakdown below.
The exhibition event features a unique format: Players are paired up in teams of four, and each tie between teams consists of five matches. Each match features one set, and three of the five are doubles,...

The 2024 United Cup is upon us, and we have many nations going head to head as many former and current players, such as Lleyton Hewitt, will serve as team captains.
The United Cup features many nations competing against each other in a pretty unique team format. Each team will have team captains who will guide their teams throughout the competitions, handling the nominations.
Some pretty big names among the captains include former players such as Lleyton Hewitt for Australia. He's been handling the men's national team for a long time, so this will hardly be difficult for him.
Some other former players have never been in a situation like this, and for them, it might get a bit more tricky. Notable other player coaches include Petros Tsitsipas for Greece, Edouard Roger-Vasselin for France, and Wesley Koolhof for the Netherlands.
Poland, which will be led by duo Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz,...

No one has earned more in tennis in 2023 than Novak Djokovic, even though he did not receive millions in bonus payments.
After players counted what they earned from prize money on the Atp Tour and Grand Slam tournaments in 2023, the result was obvious, Novak Djokovic earned the most.
However, it was not so clear after the bonus payments were added, because the 24-time Grand Slam champion was one of a few players in the Top 20 that did not receive a bonus payment.
The reason for that is simple, as Djokovic missed more than three Atp Masters 1000 mandatory tournaments, making him ineligible for the bonus payment.
Despite that, the Serbian superstar earned more than anyone else, bagging an impressive $15,952,044 throughout the 2023 season, ahead of his closest rival, Carlos Alcaraz.
Although the Spaniard earned more than $5 million less in prize money in 2023, he compensated that with bonuses, earning $4,443,073 in bonus payments to...

Tsitsipas has spoken about how much he enjoys having Sakkari as a teammate and believes her style suits him when they compete together in mixed doubles at the event.

Rafael Nadal is set to make an official return to competitive tennis in two weeks, and he's planning on making the stay longer than just in Australia.
Nadal's comeback was a huge talking point for much of the 2023 season, especially in the first half, as we all expected him to show up in Paris. While it wasn't the main talking point, plenty of people discussed his return and how it will change the tennis landscape in 2024.
The answer will arrive shortly as the Spaniard will return at the Brisbane International event at the start of January. It's only part of the answer, though, as he'll take a while to find his best tennis again, and only then will we be able to judge what might happen.
Even so, the Spaniard has shown a lot of promise and is planning out his season already. He's committed to a few events,...

Coco Gauff won a Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open, and according to Patrick Mouratoglou that will give her enough confidence to fight for more in 2024.
The young American is still in her teenage years, but it's been already her fifth season on the Wta Tour. She'll soon surpass many of her colleagues in experience, and that will be helpful for her in the future.
She now has an experience of winning a Grand Slam, and that experience will motivate her and give her extra confidence not just in her game but also in her belief that she can win Grand Slams, according to Patrick Mouratoglou, who spoke to Eurosport.
The French coach knows the teenager well, as she trained in his academy early in her career, and that's why he backs her for more success, having worked with Gauff.

Patrick Mouratoglou advised Emma Raducanu to stick with one coach and believe their plan rather than keep changing coaches regularly.
Throughout her still short tennis career, Raducanu built a reputation for changing coaches regularly. It's an interesting approach, which the player defended, saying it's something she's done since early tennis years.
However, many coaches don't support this approach, even claiming that it may be hurting the player and preventing her from progressing, which technically happened since Raducanu won the 2021 US Open.
But the Brit's lack of success can also be attributed to the injuries that she had to deal with, rather than changing coaches, and only time will tell whether this approach is the correct one for her.
Renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou spoke to SkySports about Raducanu, saying that the former world no. 10 on the Wt ATour needs to learn to trust one coach and their project.
"I understand it's...

Jannik Sinner seemingly can't stop collecting accolades for his successful 2023 season, as he was named the 2023 Atp Most Improved Player of the Year.
The start of the season didn't seem to be so successful for the young Italian. He lost to Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals in Adelaide before crashing out to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round of the Australian Open.
He then won in Montpellier and made it to the final in Rotterdam before playing in the Indian Wells final and Miami Open semifinal. But after that, the clay-court part of the season, and to some degree, also the grass season, was not so successful for Sinner.
However, during the last part of the season, he was superb. First, he won his first Atp 1000 title in Toronto, then he triumphed in Beijing and Vienna, and also showed a few heroic performances at the Atp Finals, beating even Novak Djokovic.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a hugely popular figure in Australia, and the Greek star admits he has carried with him "intense memories" due to the overwhelming crowd support.
The Australian swing is Tsitsipas' favorite time of the year and his most productive on a tennis court. Firstly, Tsitsipas enjoys a massive fanbase due to the large Greek population living there, who always cheer him up in impressive numbers every step of the way.
Secondly, Tsitsipas labeled the Australian Open as his "home Slam" because the weather in Melbourne is not too dissimilar to that in southwestern Attica, where he grew up.
It's not by accident that he's recorded some of his best results Down Under. Tsitsipas reached the second Grand Slam final of his career at the 2023 Australian Open, where the most decorated champion at the tournament, Novak Djokovic, prevented him from getting his breakthrough Slam.
In fact, before Melbourne, Tsitsipas...
