There has been much pessimism floating around regarding this past weekend's box office. I myself have tossed some of that pessimism into the void. Much of that has to do with the fact that the summer movie season kicked off with "The Fall Guy" opening to a wildly disappointing $28.5 million, marking the worst start to summer in more than 20 years. Far less ink has been spilled regarding Sony's new horror movie "Tarot," which also opened over the weekend and snuck into the top five on the domestic charts with a $6.5 million debut. At first glance, it's not a good look for a movie from a major studio opening on more than 3,100 screens across North America. However, this might actually end up being a sneaky little hit.
"Tarot" also pulled in $3.7 million internationally, giving it a $10.2 million global start. Again, that number isn't going to break any records. It's not...

Prime Video has released the first photos from My Lady Jane, the quick-witted romantic new series set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world. The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, June 27, in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Inspired by the best-selling book, My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband, Guildford.
At the center of this rollicking new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.

The prequel series to Starz’s Outlander has found its lead actors and is heading into production.
Filming has begun in Scotland on Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a show that will focus on the parents of the leads in the main series. Harriet Slater (Pennyworth) and Jamie Roy (Lifetime’s Your Boyfriend Is Mine) will play Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, who will eventually become Jamie’s parents in 18th century Scotland. The latest round of Outlander spinoff casting includes an Easter Egg for a subset of the book-loyal fandom.
Starz on Wednesday announced the addition of four roles to the forthcoming prequel, Blood of My Blood. Among them: Watchmen‘s Sara Vickers in the part of Brian Fraser’s mother (and, therefore, Jamie Fraser’s grandmother). The character is a housekeeper in the Lovat household, which is good and all, but we’re super into how she’s also named after someone many devotees of author Diana Gabaldon will recognize: Davina Porter, who narrates the audiobook versions of Gabaldon’s Outlander book series.

Exclusive: Jude Law’s Riff Raff Entertainment has received “significant funding” via a new TV development deal with France’s Newen Connect.
Unveiled at Newen’s London TV Screenings event, the deal sees Riff Raff, which the two-time Oscar nominee co-founded with Ben Jackson, handed a cash injection to develop a slate of TV projects, while giving the company a distribution pipeline.
The development partnership has already spawned three early-stage projects: political thriller Foreign Desk starring Law and written by Marek Horn, a female-led show from Pure writer Kirstie Swain and a “talent-led TV project with acclaimed playwright Chris Urch.”
The investment figure was not disclosed but is referred to as “significant.” It is being underwritten by European studio-financier Anton, which separately invested €50M ($54M) in Newen in early 2022 that allowed the French major to move into features.

Starz’s Outlander prequel series has cast younger versions of four familiar characters.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood, as the offshoot is titled, will explore the lives and relationship of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (played by Pennyworth‘s Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Condor’s Nest‘s Jamie Roy) and Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (We Hunt Together‘s Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Treadstone‘s Jeremy Irvine). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.

Outlander may be gearing up for its endgame, but the franchise is far from over.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood was ordered into a series and is officially in production.
But the series will differ slightly from the initial plan, and we’re sure the passionate fans of the franchise will welcome the changes.
When the show scored a formal pickup, it would be a prequel following Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) father and mother, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
While they will both remain in the mix for the new series, we’ll also be delving into Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) past thanks to the introduction of her parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.
Interestingly, the original series has kept details about Julia and Henry under wraps, thanks to Claire’s limited memories of them.

Sony Pictures has released a brand new trailer for an upcoming horror flick titled "Tarot." This one was originally going under the title "Horrorscope," but the powers that be decided to be a little more straightforward about what's happening here. Yes, it's about deadly tarot cards and, based on the trailer, it looks very much like what one might expect from a horror movie about deadly tarot cards. Check it out for yourself above.
The footage doesn't give away too much by way of story specifics. It focuses more on the gimmick, which is that this possessed tarot card deck unleashes various deadly beings on its unsuspecting victims. It is also pretty heavy on the jump scares for those who are into that sort of thing. It appears to be cut from the same cloth as 2014's "Ouija." Whether or not that's a good or a bad thing is up...

Here’s a new streaming flick that’s perfect for the season and answers a question that’s probably on the minds of many youngsters: do my favorite superheroes get to celebrate the holiday? I mean do the ‘super-baddies” give them a day off? Those queries have been explored in many animated TV shows and in the comic book source materials (the rival comics companies would usually publish a “Christmas with the Superheroes” annual special edition). So a feature-length “jolly romp” is well overdue. So, will Christmas Eve lighten up the Dark Knight? Especially if there’s a junior caped crusader in the mix (and we’re not talking about the “boy wonder”). Hey, who’s that swinging over the roofs of Gotham City? It’s none other than a Merry Little Batman.

Why the move? It may have something to do with the fact that A Quiet Place: Day One is currently dated for theatrical release on June 28, moving into that new date just last month.
Jacob Batalon (“Reginald the Vampire”), Alana Boden (The Invitation), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn: The Foundation) and Avantika (Senior Year) will star alongside Humberly González (Nobody), Wolfgang Novogratz (Assassination Nation), Larsen Thompson (“The Midnight Club”), Harriet Slater (“Pennyworth”) and Olwen Fouéré (Mandy).
Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen (Moonfall) wrote the script and will direct the movie.

Los Angeles, Sept 1 (Ians) The Robert Pattinson-starrer ‘The Batman’ had already announced its sequel for 2025. While date is likely to be pushed due to the Hollywood strikes, director Matt Reeves has revealed the villains, narrowing down the options to either Clayface or Mister Freeze.
Matt Reeves had earlier also expressed great interest in wanting to use either Clayface or Mister Freeze for the sequel, along with the Court of Owls, Professor Pyg or the Calendar Man instead of constantly focusing on the Joker.
The sequel will kick off production in March 24, 2024, instead of the originally scheduled to begin filming this November, due to the ongoing WGA strike, though a delay in release date, while likely hasn’t been confirmed, Aceshowbiz reported.

The city of Colonia is home to a rising population of murderers looking to cause all manner of macabre carnage in the new 10-issue comic book series Kill More. Written by Scott Bryan Wilson with artwork by Max Alan Fuchs, the first issue of Kill More will be released on September 13th from Idw Originals, and as a special treat for Daily Dead readers, we have an exclusive look at Fuchs' artwork that offers eerie insights into the eclectic killers showcased in the new series, including development art featuring Obsideo, Lady Facesmasher, and The Giraffe.
Writer Scott Bryan Wilson discussed the malevolent murderers lurking within the pages of Kill More:
"Remember when you were in school and the teacher would have to leave the room for a minute? Immediately, the worst kids would take advantage and turn into monsters—almost on a primal instinct for defying and flagrantly disregarding the established classroom rules and norms.

As TV academy voters fill out their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots, they will have to consider 163 shows for Best Drama Series. This is only down by eight compared to last year. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members can now not let their selections exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which will be eight in this case.
2020 and 2022 champ “Succession” is in the hunt for its third win in this category and will potentially only have to fend off two of its seven rivals from last year. “Better Call Saul” and “Yellowjackets” returned in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023, while “Euphoria,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” did not. The last remaining 2022 contender, “Ozark,” officially finished its four-season run last April. Also back in the running are former winners “The Handmaid’s Tale” (2017) and “The Crown” (2021).

Here’s how “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Bridgerton” creator Shonda Rhimes thinks about sex scenes: carefully.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly in support of her just-launched Netflix series “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” the doyen of steamy TV expounded on her philosophy for writing sexy sequences, telling the outlet she really doesn’t “write them any differently,” no matter if they are for broadcast or streaming TV. “I really don’t. I’m kind of a prude,” she said. “So, what I write into the scenes is what I want the audience to get in terms of the character emotion or the character story that’s playing out. The Batman is dead. Long live … his previously unseen adopted son?
That’s the premise behind “Gotham Knights,” the CW’s latest (and last?) DC Comics-based TV series, potentially putting the pin in a remarkable 18-year run encompassing everything from “Smallville” to the expansive “Arrowverse” and the still-airing (for now) “Superman & Lois.” If this is indeed the end, it feels like a sad, destined-to-be-ignored footnote rather than a triumphant farewell.
Of course, the Dark Knight has always been a particularly sparkly gem in the DC crown, which probably accounts for why his solo exploits remain the dominion of feature films, leaving various television offerings to dig and scrape in the corners and crevices of the Batman mythos for storytelling opportunities. Just in the last 10 years we’ve gotten Batman’s city before Batman (Fox’s “Gotham”), Batman’s butler before Batman (Starz/HBO Max’s “Pennyworth”), Batman’s...
