Here’s your first look at the powerful trailer for Judas And The Black Messiah. Starring Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield, the film is scheduled to open in theaters 2021.
Wamg’s Michael Haffner says of this first trailer:
You had me at Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield.
Judas And The Black Messiah looks absolutely riveting and intense. I can’t say this enough… I love the power of good storytelling.

Chairman Fred Hampton was 21 years old when he was assassinated by the FBI, who coerced a petty criminal named William O’Neal to help them silence him and the Black Panther Party. But they could not kill Fred Hampton’s legacy and, 50 years later, his words still echo…louder than ever.

Locusts will screen at The Tivoli Theater (6350 Delmar) Thursday, Nov 14 at 9:30pm as part of this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival.. Ticket information can be found Here
In “Locusts,” a dark thriller set in Australia’s Outback, estranged tech entrepreneur Ryan Black returns to his desert hometown — the ironically named Serenity Crossing — for his father’s funeral. Ryan is reluctantly reunited with his ex-con brother, and the pair soon becomes the target of an extortion scam at the hands of desperate criminal associates of their reprobate dad. The Aussie movie site FilmInk writes: “Boasting a tight and twisting script and stunning imagery, ‘Locusts’ is the kind of film that we don’t see nearly enough of in Australia: a classy crime B-movie in the style of John Dahl or (early) James Foley. It’s elevated even further, however, by the stellar performances. Ben Geurens is totally empathetic as the harried hero,...

Robert Eggers is back. The director of The Witch returns this October to drive Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe to the brink of madness.
Opening October 18, check out the trailer for A24 Films’ The Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse is a hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
In his 2016 review of The Witch, Michael Haffner wrote:
“When The Witch conjures up the spooky imagery, it does so with such a pure and classic horror style. Without delving into too many specifics, some of the images seem like old wood carving prints straight out of that one book you weren’t supposed to look at when you were 10 yrs. old. Once again, Eggers gives the hair-raising imagery a look that is rooted in the time period without relying on modern horror cliches. The finale alone delivers sights that will haunt...

With Hereditary (2018), writer/director Ari Aster skillfully ratcheted the tension into something that feels like a nightmare straight from hell.
Hereditary conjured multiple indelibly brutal moments of pure horror – the likes of which made many in my audience giggle in anxiety. Aster truly seems to got as much tension as possible from each scene.

Wamg’s Michael Haffner says in his review that Blindspotting is “a film that you see, smell, and hear. Its portrayal of Oakland is so sincere and earnest that it practically explodes off the screen. It’s a film very much of its time and makes its presence known, even if it’s not always felt. It’s important to have films like Blindspotting ignite these conversations that need to be had so that we can avoid the mistakes of the past.”
In celebration of the film opening in theaters, Wamg is giving away free passes to see Blindspotting.
Directed by Carlos López Estrada, the film opens in St. Louis on July 27th.
Lifelong friends Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal co-wrote and star in this timely and wildly entertaining story about the intersection of race and class, set against the backdrop of a rapidly gentrifying Oakland.

Annabelle: Creation is one of 2017’s scariest films!
Variety reports: “Annabelle: Creation,” which conjured $35 million in its opening to dominate an otherwise lackluster frame last weekend, will wind up the weekend with about $64 million in its first 10 days. The film is the fourth in New Line’s highly profitable “Conjuring” universe and should see the combined worldwide grosses hit the $1 billion mark this weekend, thanks to 2013’s “The Conjuring,” 2014’s “Annabelle,” 2016’s “The Conjuring 2,” and “Annabelle: Creation.” Next up is “The Nun,” starring Taissa Farmiga and Demian Bichir and due out July 13.
In his review, Michael Haffner says “it proudly stands next to The Conjuring films as delivering real scares. What helps with this is making the audience afraid of not just the doll, but of what other being is haunting the house as well as the always hidden mother. It’s a terrifying trifecta that fits perfectly into the ominous surroundings.

A 24-year-old Canadian man who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death and later described the slaying on Reddit has been arrested in Texas after months on the run.
Ager Hasan was taken into custody on Tuesday by the United States Secret Service during a traffic stop in San Antonio, bringing a two-month manhunt to an end, Inspector Michael Haffner of Canada’s Waterloo Regional Police Service tells People.
Hasan’s arrest brings to an end weeks of multi-national pursuit — which was made stranger by the fact that the suspect continued to post online throughout his flight, including on Instagram, and was emailing with police.

10 years ago this June, I (Andy Triefenbach) started Destroy the Brain as a solo horror film podcast back when there were only a handful of podcasts talking about the genre. For three-and-a-half years, 78 episodes were released in a format that was dubbed “Season 1”. “Season 2” started with co-host Michael Haffner which lasted 47 episodes for 11 months. New contributors started writing for Dtb and we picked up where “Season 2” left off, effectively starting “Season 3”. Since the show has evolved hosts and formats, we have collectively made the decision to retire the show known as “Destroy the Brain” or “The Destroy the Brain Podcast” and reboot it, since that’s the hot thing to do, as a newly named show. The podcast will now be known as We Need To Talk About Horror.
Myself, Jeremy Jones, Joseph Burge and Mike Hassler will be filling your ear holes with discussions about the horror genre. We will be talking about films,...

Playing now in theatres, on Demand, on Amazon Video and on iTunes, watch Portishead’s music video cover of Abba’s ‘Sos’ as heard in High-rise.
High-rise is the latest film by cult British director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, A Field in England), an ambitious adaptation of the J.G. Ballard novel of the same name.
The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss.
High-rise stars Hiddleston as Dr. Robert Laing, the newest resident of a luxurious apartment in a high-tech concrete skyscraper whose lofty location places him amongst the upper class.
Laing quickly settles into high society life and meets the building’s eccentric tenants: Charlotte (Miller), his upstairs neighbor and bohemian single mother; Wilder (Evans), a charismatic documentarian who lives with his pregnant wife Helen (Moss); and Mr. Royal (Irons), the enigmatic architect who designed the building.
Life seems like paradise to the solitude-seeking Laing.
