Pixar’s first long-form original streaming series, “Win or Lose,” has been bumped to 2024. It was originally meant to premiere in December.
Disney just released the Disney+ listings for December and it’s not there. TheWrap had been hearing for a little while that it had been delayed until next year; this confirms it.
The series, created by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, focuses on a co-ed middle school softball team called the Pickles and the events leading up to their big championship game. Each episode focuses on a different player or parent and sees what the world is like through their eyes. Will Forte, Rosa Salazar and Milan Ray are among the voice cast. The series will consist of eight episodes.

Earlier Friday at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, before a screening of their new feature “Elemental,” Pixar unveiled an episode of “Win or Lose,” the first long-form streaming series from the legendary animation studio that’s set to debut on Disney+ this December. And the episode did much to ease fears that Pixar has somehow lost its touch; it is easily one of the most artful, exciting and emotionally incisive things the studio has done. And the wait for more episodes just became downright excruciating.
“Win or Lose,” originally announced during Disney’s investors’ day presentation in December 2020, hinges around an ingenious, incredibly identifiable concept – a middle school softball team is headed toward the championship and each 20-minute episode is told from the point of view of one of the players, their parents or the adults who play with them, like the umpire or coach (voiced by Will Forte...

The team behind “Coco” has a new coming-of-age tearjerker in the works for Pixar. “Elio,” the 28th animated feature from the legendary studio, is directed by Adrian Molina who wrote and co-helmed 2018 Oscar-winning film.
“Elio” is centered around the titular 11-year-old underdog (voiced by Yonas Kibreab), who has an active imagination and is beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from various galaxies. The official synopsis reads: Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, and completely unprepared for that kind of pressure, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, survive a series of formidable trials and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.
America Ferrera voices Elio’s mother Olga, with Jameela Jamil and Brad Garrett cast as intergalactic ambassadors.
In addition to Molina, “Coco” associate producer Mary Alice Drumm also produces “Elio.”

Back in 2016, Matthew A. Cherry put out a call on Twitter looking for 3D artists to help with a project. On Sunday, Cherry was standing on the stage of the Dolby Theatre celebrating his Oscar win for best animated short for “Hair Love.”
His triumph comes as Variety continues to celebrate African-American artisans who work behind the scenes and continue to make an impact.
“Hair Love” was executive produced by Frank Abney and Peter Ramsey. The latter has been drawing since the age of 3. Ramsey, whose credits as an illustrator include “Godzilla,” “Independence Day” and “Batman Forever,” was a self-taught storyboard artist who dreamed as a young kid in Crenshaw of becoming a director.
Ramsey went on to work at DreamWorks and directed “Rise of the Guardians,” making history as the first African-American to helm an animated film with a $145 million budget. He notched another benchmark in 2019 as the first...

How can two brothers growing up in a quiet suburb in the same home, take such different paths? Another excellent animated short film worth watching. Substance is a short film written and directed by Jamaal Bradley, who is now working at Valve after working at DreamWorks Animation. He made this short in his own spare time, and it's beautiful in quite a few unique ways. Substance is about two brothers who end up in a fight when "different means of living" threatens their family, but it will be a young girl who reminds them of their bond. It's co-written by Michael Yates, who was also the Lead Story Artist. I love that you can't hear any of the dialogue in this, only the music which brings greater emotional depth to the film. See below. Thanks to Twitter for the tip. Original description from Vimeo: "Based on True Events. Two...

Exclusive Preview: ‘Urban Legendz’ (Humanoid)
Is it ironic that coming-of-age stories never seem to get old? Are the 1980s a part of our past or are they more like a present that keeps on giving? These mysteries are only deepened by Urban Legendz, an upcoming Ya graphic novel from Humanoids that offers an old-school Brooklyn twist on the 1980s coming-of-age tale with eerie themes, a sub-genre that seems supernaturally popular these days.
The exclusive excerpt of Urban Legendz below weaves a tale of young friendship developing in the the 1980s in the midst of a dark mystery, a set-up that recalls plenty of Reagan Era classics (E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, The Goonies, etc.) and a good number of contemporary projects, as well. The Netflix series Stranger Things, for example, returns with Season 3 in July, New Line Cinema’s It: Chapter 2 arrives in theaters on Sept.
