The International Association of Media Tie-In Writers (Iamtw) recognizes the wide range of authors who work on media tie-ins. Often overlooked, these writers craft exciting tales using beloved characters and settings of franchises including the likes of Mike Hammer, Firefly, Murder She Wrote, James Bond, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Star Trek. These stories can be original adventures, or adaptations of movies or television episodes. They include all genres and a wide range of lengths and formats.
To recognize the accomplishments of the unsung authors in this particular field, the Iamtw sponsors the annual Scribe Awards. This year’s awards have six categories to highlight excellence in Novels, Short Stories, Audio Dramas, Young Adult/Middle Grade works, and Graphic Novels.
Congratulations to all the nominees.

We might have only had one season, plus a couple of specials, of David Tennant and Catherine Tate’s amazing chemistry as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble on screen, but thankfully the two Doctor Who icons have been giving us new adventures for the duo over the past few years, since they started making audio dramas for Big Finish Productions.
Following a couple of boxsets of The Tenth Doctor Adventures, the latest release featuring the pair is Donna Noble: Kidnapped, a spinoff series focusing on Tate’s companion. Set following 2008’s “Forest of the Dead,” when Donna is taking a break from her time travels, Tate’s co-lead in this collection of four stories is her former The Catherine Tate Show co-star Niki Wardley. However, Tennant will pop up for a brief cameo in the final adventure.

It’s been nearly a decade since she last appeared on the show, but Catherine Tate hasn’t stayed away from the world of Doctor Who for good. Since 2016, she’s been reprising the role of Donna Noble opposite David Tennant in Big Finish Productions’ The Tenth Doctor Adventures audio drama series. In her next outing, however, Tate will be going at it alone, meaning Donna will be the star for once.
Big Finish has announced that a new boxset titled Donna Noble: Kidnapped! is on its way. The four stories will see the Doctor nowhere to be found with Donna left to pilot the Tardis by herself and go around saving the universe in his stead. She’ll even get her own companion in the form of Nat (Niky Wardley), who’s described as “everything Donna isn’t – a career woman, happily married, successful, and confident.”

The 1996 Doctor Who television movie remains an intriguing footnote in the history of the franchise, bridging the gap between Classic and New Who without capturing the tone of either. Still, the movie gave us Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor, who has become the star of many official audio dramas from Big Finish, as well as a cameo appearance in a recent Doctor Who season. This October will see the release of the new audio drama Ravenous 4, which will pit McGann against not one but four Masters in a conclusion to the Ravenous series that kicked off in April 2018.
This fascinating premise will feature Geoffrey Beever’s old-school Master, Derek Jacobi’s War Master, Michelle Gomez’s Missy, and in his first reappearance since Doctor Who: The Movie, Eric Roberts’ version of the character. The multi-Master idea, teased to an extent in the recent series with Gomez and John Simm, has...

As previously revealed, Billie Piper’s returning to the world of Doctor Who as iconic companion Rose Tyler for her own spinoff series. An audio spinoff series, that is, from the good people of Big Finish Productions, and now, we have a full rundown of what to expect from the four-episode boxset.
Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon fills in the gap between Rose’s exit from the show as a regular back in the season 2 finale and her surprise return in season 4. As fans well know, Rose was thought to be trapped in a parallel world before she found a way to (temporarily) reunite with the Doctor in time to help defeat Davros and the Daleks’ plan to destroy the multiverse. Now, this series will explore Rose’s adventures as she uses the titular dimension canon to hop between universes.

Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler still has one of the most memorable exits from Doctor Who in the show’s history, with that final scene with her and the Tenth Doctor on a beach being an emotional high point for the series. Since that moment, Piper has popped up for small cameos as well as appearing in Big Finish audio dramas alongside David Tennant. Now, Big Finish have announced that Rose is returning for her own series – Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon – and she’s bringing her family with her.
The Dimension Cannon was first mentioned in the 2008 episode “Journey’s End,” in which Rose explained how her parallel universe Torchwood team had created a device allowing her to leap between worlds. But, just as it was finished, the multiverse began collapsing. Very inconvenient, right? Now, Big Finish is aiming to show us what happened during Rose’s journeys through...

In one of Doctor Who‘s most timey-wimey casting choices, 2008’s “The Doctor’s Daughter” cast Georgia Tennant (nee Moffett) in the role of Jenny, the Time Lord’s cloned child, when in real-life she’s the daughter of former Doctor Peter Davison. Recently, Tennant returned to the role for her own spinoff series courtesy of audio company Big Finish and now, they’re giving us what we all want to see – well, hear – by uniting father and daughter in more way than one.
Big Finish is reaching its 20th anniversary producing Doctor Who audio dramas and is celebrating in the biggest way possible with The Legacy of Time, which is being described as an “epic six-hour adventure” that will bring together five incarnations of the Doctor. Namely, Tom Baker, Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann. What’s more, a whole heap of supporting characters from across Who history will be involved,...
