Exclusive: CAA has laid off a number of staff in its global TV division and is centralizing the team to the U.S. and UK.
We understand that staffers based in countries such as Mexico, Africa, Germany and the UK have been made redundant; less than 10 people have been affected.
One of CAA’s most prominent global TV agents, Stockholm-based Pete Stone, is relocating to London. Stone moved to Stockholm nearly four years ago when ICM Partners – prior to its CAA acquisition – took a minority stake in Swedish agency Albatros. In London, CAA rival UTA acquired storied British agency Curtis Brown in 2022.
Details of CAA’s move to centralize global TV to the U.S. and London are still being ironed out and there could be more strategic shifts to come, we understand. A spokesman for CAA, which employees about 3,400 people, declined comment.

Norma Percy Making More ‘Putin Vs The West’
Veteran filmmaker Norma Percy is producing two additional episodes of her seminal Putin vs the West documentary series for the BBC and Arte France. Zinc Media’s Brook Lapping and Les Films d’Ici are attached to co-produce Putin vs the West: War (working title) , which will cover Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, the proceeding war and the response from the West. The first three episodes explored Putin’s relationship with the West, from the invasion of Crimea to the brink of its wider invasion of Ukraine. “As we always do, we will take viewers behind the scenes to show how and why the crucial decisions were made, and what it was like for Ukraine’s President Zelensky, Britain’s Prime Ministers and Western leaders as they struggled against Putin’s invasion without provoking World War Three,” said series producer Percy.

Prince William is no stranger to meeting celebrities. But even the future king can get starstruck sometimes. That’s exactly what happened during the Earthshot Prize Awards when the Prince of Wales appeared “overwhelmed” and “nervous” after he met a certain star.
Here’s who a body language expert observed leaving William “in awe.”

The high-tech, high concept thriller Assassin is out now on DVD and digital platforms in the UK and Ireland.
A-list superstar Bruce Willis (the Die Hard legend in one of his final roles before retirement) teams up with Nomzamo Mbatha (Coming 2 America) for a futuristic tale of hired killers, lethal drones, and wriggly worm-bots injected into people’s heads!
The feature debut of writer/director Jesse Atlas (Sundance nominee for the sci-fi short Record/Play), the film also stars Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell, superb as the villainous ‘fixer’ Adrian, Mustafa Shakir and Andy Allo (Pitch Perfect 3).
With superbly staged action-sequences, and a twist-packed plot, Assassin is an exciting and innovative debut that fans of bold sci-fi thrillers like Possessor and Inception will love.

Assassin is a sci-fi thriller directed by Jesse Atlas starring Bruce Willis and Dominic Purcell.
Assassin leads us, admittedly poignantly, to the terrible conclusion that a science fiction film can be anything but pedestrian.
And this one has that terrible flaw – that it contains no new ideas other than in its initial premise.
The rest, scenes strung together are more or less well done.
Assassin Film Review
It starts out from a good idea that, carried forward with absolutely no originality, limits itself to ticking off the passing minutes and burning itself up upon the assumptions of a thriller that, scene by scene, is not bad, but lacks substance when viewed as a whole.
A film that does not want to, does not know how to – or just simply fails to – stand out and make an impact, a film shot with the lightness of a professional who performs a routine,...

It has been rather bewildering to witness no less than two dozen low-budget action movies involving Bruce Willis being churned out over the last three years. That legacy-dimming run ends with “Assassin,” which arrives almost exactly one annum after his family announced a retirement due to diagnosis of cognitive disorder aphasia. Like nearly every preceding opus featuring the erstwhile global superstar in roles of prominent billing but little screentime, this rote genre exercise is little more than a time-killer, and as such a regrettable close to a significant career. Saban Films is releasing it to U.S. theaters, digital and VOD platforms on March 31.

It’s finally here, unless there’s something stashed away and kept secret, Assassin is the last film featuring Bruce Willis. Given the quality or lack thereof, of most of his later career output it seemed almost pointless to hope that he would go out on a high note, working with Jesse V. Johnson on White Elephant was probably his last chance of that. But could we at least hope that his last on-screen appearance wouldn’t be another embarrassment?
Alexa is angry and wants answers. Her husband Sebastian was a drone pilot until a work-related accident put him in a coma. She demands answers from his boss Valmora, the head of a private military operation.

"It's time to come home." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for an action movie called Assassin - winner of the most generic and uninteresting titles for any movie in the last few years. Just call it anything else than this!! Bruce Willis stars as the man who creates futuristic microchip tech that enables the mind of an agent to inhabit the body of another person to carry out covert missions. When a man dies during this experimental military program, a former black-ops soldier, who also happens to be his wife, takes his place using the tech to find out who killed him. Yet another of these Willis movies where it doesn't seem like he knows the movie he's in. The cast includes Andy Allo, Nomzamo Mbatha, with Dominic Purcell and Mustafa Shakir. This looks so bad, not only a ripoff story but the filmmaking quality is just awful.

With 3 action packed seasons mapped out, we hope to breathe life into the kings and queens, warriors and witches, spies, slavers, marauders and traders who lived, loved and fought for this land." Costume designer Ruth E. Carter and Eddie Murphy had worked on six movies together when lucky No. 7 became “Coming 2 America.” “I didn’t even realize that it had been seven films with Eddie, all spread out through the years, and he took a big break. Around the time she was in the seventh grade, South African actor Thando Thabethe auditioned for the lead role in a school play. It didn’t pan out the way she’d planned — she landed a small part in the choir, “sort of singing ‘Kumbaya’ and not really doing much,” she recalls, with a laugh — but a spark was lit. “Even just being part of something that small at such a young age is what shaped me, knowing that this is something that I want to do for the rest of my life.”

While Affleck walked on stage in a slick, black suit, it turns out that Kimmel made the decision to go for a theme with his outfit. He appeared, dressed as DC character Robin, under the impression that Affleck would be reprising his Caped Crusader role for one more night.
“You told me we were dressing up,” complained Kimmel.
“I said, ‘Wear a suit,’” responded Affleck.
The actor, who starred as Batman in both cuts of Justice League, as well as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then wondered out loud where the late-night host got his Robin costume.
“I bought it with my stimulus check, you know that,” joked Kimmel, with Affleck responding, “That’s not what those are for.

“This is a rock concert!” Dave Grohl kept repeating, over and over, with and without the F-word inserted, at Sunday night’s filming of Global Citizen’s “Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World” at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Some of the other participants might have begged to differ on the exact genre classification — not-such-hard rockers Jennifer Lopez and J Balvin were among those sharing the bill — but the basic sentiment was widely shared: Stadium-sized entertainment is back. In pastels, bright colors or black.
The latter shade was born out during Foo Fighters’ climactic six-song set, when Grohl brought out AC/DC’s Brian Johnson as an unannounced guest to sing “Back in Black.” Given the options, it was a much more appropriate choice than “Highway to Hell” for a show partially celebrating lights at ends of tunnels … although the latter might have fit the telecast’s aim...

“Coming 2 America,” the long-awaited sequel to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 “Coming to America,” was the most-streamed title in the U.S. the week of its premiere, according to new Nielsen data.
The movie, released March 4 on Amazon Prime Video, drew 1.413 billion minutes of total viewing for the week of March 1-7 among U.S. viewers, per Nielsen’s SVOD Content Ratings estimates. African American viewers accounted for 40% of the film’s audience, according to the media measurement firm.
That put “Coming 2 America” ahead of every other TV show or movie on major streaming subscription services for the period, according to Nielsen — and represents Prime Video’s first No. 1 spot on the rankings.
The next most-viewed title for that week was Netflix original series “Ginny & Georgia” with 1.16 billion minutes over 10 episodes, followed by reruns of “Criminal Minds” on Netflix (929 million minutes) and Disney Plus’ “WandaVision” (924 million minutes). Also notable...

Zamunda might be King Akeem’s kingdom, but the “Coming to America” wouldn’t be complete without its Queens.
While Shari Headley’s Lisa McDowell captured fans’ attention and Akeem’s (Eddie Murphy) heart with her confidence and headstrong attitude in the 1988 original, “Coming 2 America” boasts a new crop of ladies who are ready to speak their minds and take their rightful place at the center of Zamunda’s legend, including KiKi Layne, Bella Murphy, Akiley Love and Nomzamo Mbatha.
“I’ve been watching this movie since I was a little kid. I wasn’t even born when the first one came out,” Layne, who plays Akeem and Lisa’s eldest daughter Meeka, tells Variety. “They never stop being funny, but for a lot of people that [movie] was the first time that people in African culture were represented [onscreen] as kings and queens, and rich, and had a wealth of resources and knowledge.

Craig Brewer is a white filmmaker not unaccustomed to Black-centered stories. Barring his 2000 indie debut, “The Poor & Hungry,” and his 2011 “Footloose” remake, his films predominantly feature African-American protagonists. Brewer based his Memphis-set Southern rap drama “Hustle & Flow” on his friendships with hip-hop artists Al Kapone, Juicy J, and DJ Paul. (John Singleton produced the film.) The blaxploitation-influenced “Black Snake Moan,” whose framed poster features a provocative, menacing Samuel L. Jackson standing over a chained daisy-duke wearing Christina Ricci, peaks from behind Brewer’s shoulder, while hanging on his wall.
Brewer is still riding high from his first Eddie Murphy collaboration — the widely successful “Dolemite Is My Name,” a light-hearted biopic of blaxploitation icon Rudy Ray Moore that garnered the best reviews of the filmmaker’s career while ushering a comeback for Murphy. An ‘80s cinema fanatic, “The Breakfast Club” and “Purple Rain” greatly impacted the Memphis filmmaker, as did...

Now that all that nasty February snow has finally melted away, many minds are filled with thoughts of travel, perhaps to an exotic destination. Or could you be yearning to revisit an old familiar spot, somewhere filled with laughter and dear friends from long ago? Sure with the vaccines rolling out, things are looking a lot brighter than last March (the last theatre advance screening was exactly a year to the weekend), but you may want to hold off before hitting those “getaway” websites. Why not combine those desires into a virtual reunion, mostly set in an exotic land that’s been in your movie dreams for nearly 33 years? That’s the major selling point for this weekend’s highly anticipated sequel. After his more-or-less traditional “final fade-out” happy ending in 1988, Prince Akeem boards the royal jet for Queens, NY for Coming 2 America.

I don’t envy the job of anyone tasked with taking a classic Eighties comedy — Coming to America, say — and making a decades-later sequel that tries to please its guaranteed audience. Namely, everyone who loved the original, people who’ve rewatched it a million times, who have Soul Glo memes saved on their phones, who know every word to Sexual Chocolate’s song who — as in my case — grew up in families where Coming to America was probably the only consensus movie that everyone from my grandmother down to myself...

It’s hard to imagine a comedy like “Coming to America” getting made today, which means that only Eddie Murphy could resurrect it. Anyone unfamiliar with that movie’s legacy — and, 33 years on, those people are really missing out — will find “Coming 2 America,” the long-awaited followup, amusing in parts. Those who adore the original, however, will feel like they’ve been revisited by an old friend, or perhaps the dirty uncle, whose jokes are a bit frayed but still pointed enough. Produced at a time when big, brash studio comedies rarely crack the zeitgeist,

Before watching Coming 2 America, try to think of some successful comedy sequels. If the best you can conjure up is Wayne’s World 2 or 22 Jump Street then that really speaks for itself, doesn’t it? More difficult than the traditional comedy sequel is the many-years-too-late variety of retread. Just ask Zoolander 2 or Dumb and Dumber To. Rehashing the same jokes and running them into the ground, reusing the old beloved catchphrases, and hitting the same story beats typically set comedy sequels up for failure, no matter how nostalgic audiences may be for the original. For every Borat 2, there are 10 Hangover 2s.

While there is no African country of Zamunda, from which Coming to America’s Prince Akeem hails, the movie had an impact on the continent when it was released in 1988 — particularly in South Africa, home to Nomzamo Mbatha, who makes her big studio debut in the sequel, premiering on Amazon on March 5.

Mumbai, Feb 25: Bella Murphy, daughter of Hollywood star Eddie Murphy is all set to make her big screen debut alongside her father in the upcoming film, 'Coming 2 America'.
The film is a sequel to the Eddie Murphy-starrer of 1988, 'Coming To America'. Nineteen-year-old newcomer Bella says the original film shaped her humour.
In 2021 sequel, Bella plays the role of Omma, who is calm, cool and, as she notes, "royal, but not too stuffy". Omma is the type of person who analyses a situation before she reacts.
Bella saw the original film when she was just 11. "I remember it being really funny to watch. It shaped a lot of my humor, too. I'm really passionate about pursuing acting, so when my dad told me about this part, I was excited about auditioning and also, training for the role. It was fun to do it all with him,...

As always, an array of trailers aired during the big game, and while the ongoing pandemic means there’s still a cloud of doubt hanging over blockbuster season 2021 (at least in the non-streaming service world), Hollywood still had plenty to tease, from Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America to the latest installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. Below is a list...

"I shall bring queens to Zamunda!" Amazon debuted a short Super Bowl TV spot for Coming 2 America, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved comedy classic Coming to America from 1988. The royal family of Zamunda are back, and they're just as hilarious as ever! The latest trailer for Coming 2 America dropped on Feb. 3, and it's good to see Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) again. The sequel picks up years after the iconic 1988 film and sees the newly crowned King Akeem heading back to Queens after he learns that he fathered a son with another woman (Leslie Jones). Although Akeem has a daughter, Meeka (Kiki Layne), his father's dying wish is for him to seek out his long-lost son, Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler), and groom him to take the throne as his heir.
The sequel boasts a star-studded cast, much like the first film. Along with the actors reprising their original roles like Hall, Shari Headley, James Earl Jones, John Amos, Paul Bates, and Garcelle Beauvais, Coming 2 America includes Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, and Nomzamo Mbatha.
