Teens and hormones. Together, they’re responsible for the realization of any number of worst-case scenarios. Once activated, however, they’re the perfect catalyst for drama in all its permutations, up to and including writer-director Alec Tibaldi’s latest film, Lazareth (a Biblically inspired portmanteau of “Lazarus” and “Nazareth”), an efficient, economical, if somewhat predictable, survival thriller set in a post-pandemic, apocalyptic future. It’s those same pesky hormones that throw a relatively stable household into disarray, conflict, and eventually violence. Lazareth’s main selling point, Ashley Judd, essays the singularly named Lee, a single woman who unofficially adopts her two nieces, Imogen (Katie Douglas) and Maeve (Sarah Pidgeon), just as the outside world goes to the obligatory...

Robert Downey Jr. plays Australian actor Kirk Lazarus in his Oscar-nominated role in Tropic Thunder. Downey Jr.’s Lazarus takes the extreme step in Method acting and undergoes pigmentation alteration surgery to play an African-American man. The role was clearly a satire that mocked the extreme lengths some actors were willing to go to for a role. Downey Jr.’s co-star in the film, Danny McBride, revealed how the actor stayed in character the whole time.
Ben Stiller, Brandon T Jackson, and Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder
Downey Jr.’s portrayal in the film received criticism for donning Blackface, but his acting in the film was praised by many. He was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that year, which he lost to Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight.

"Galaxy Quest" isn't just a hilarious sci-fi riff on "Three Amigos," it's also respected by longtime fans of "Star Trek" as a loving parody of the original series created by Gene Roddenberry, not to mention a positive portrayal of passionate fandom. In the movie, Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Mitchell play the cast members of a cheesy sci-fi series called "Galaxy Quest" that looks eerily like the original iteration of "Star Trek" on the small screen. At this point in their careers, all the actors are washed up, relegated to appearing at sci-fi conventions and answering nerdy questions about the show from their most passionate fans. But they're about to get a chance to become real heroes.

Warning: contains major spoilers for The Lazarus Project series one.
The new series of The Lazarus Project on Sky does not mess about. Episode one plunges viewers straight back into the action and expects them to keep up with George and the gang’s time travel twists. The last time we saw them, they were stuck in a constantly repeating three-week loop caused by a collapsing-in-on-itself black hole and everybody was losing their sanity. As series two introduces more time travel to the plot, things only get more complicated.
If your memory of all that needs a little refresher on what everybody was up to the last time we saw them, with series one spoilers ahead, read on.
The Very Short Version: Resets, Time Loops & 2012

It was eight years ago this week that Arrow kicked off what would be known as its “Mystery Grave” season, seeing as the opener ended with a “Six Months Later” flash-forward that saw Barry Allen arrive late for the funeral of someone clearly close to Oliver Queen.
The only clues we had to go on from that startling, minute-long stinger was that Oliver felt responsibility for whomever‘s death, and as such now was resolved “to kill him,” the person responsible for it.

Mark Marshall, a nearly 10-year veteran of NBCUniversal, has been promoted to Chairman of Global Advertising and Partnerships.
The elevation follows a hectic period last May when Marshall took on new duties on short notice at the NBCU upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall. Marshall was pressed into service to handle the day’s lead remarks and spearhead the event after his former boss, Linda Yaccarino, abruptly decamped during rehearsals to join Twitter (now X) as CEO. Marshall and NBCUniversal Media Group Chairman Mark Lazarus both addressed the stunning departure of Yaccarino (as well as the exit of former NBCU CEO Jeff Shell in April) in scripted onstage comments.
As interim chairman, Marshall presided over an upfront process yielding cash commitments described by NBCU as “roughly in line” with record-setting 2022 results. The ad market has been turbulent for all sellers of late, with labor strife adding to a cluster of economic stresses.

Mark Marshall, the executive who led NBCUniversal’s ad-sales outreach on an interim basis, will take the role officially.
Marshall, who was given oversight of NBCU’s ad-sales after former leader Linda Yaccarino departed abruptly to take the CEO role at X, the social-media company previously known as Twitter, will report to Mark Lazarus, chairman of the company’s media operations.
“Mark stepped into this role on an interim basis at one of the most critical times of year for the ad sales business, and over the past three months he has more than proven himself to be the leader NBCU needs to guide this team into the future,” said Lazarus, in a prepared statement. “Mark’s relationships are second to none, and coupled with his transformative vision, I have no doubt that under his leadership we will continue to reinvent and innovate the sales business while super-serving our clients and partners.

What's that they say about the best-laid plans?
The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 7 proved that you can't always get what you want regardless of how well you execute a plan.
It took George four episodes, theft and detonation of a nuclear device, and a reasonably high, if temporary, body count to bring Sarah back to life via a time reset.
And, despite a good amount of evidence to the contrary, George is a pretty cunning guy. So this latest do-over of his life should have worked out, at least better than it did.
Early on, George was proactive, preventing past problems from repeating themselves.
That led him to jump out of bed and leave the newly resurrected but perplexed Sarah to confront Shiv.
When Shiv returned to the land of the living, his first instinct was to go after George, who shot and killed him on The Lazarus Project...

Amblin Partners has struck a new multi-year deal with Universal Pictures, which will provide the Steven Spielberg-led production company with more creative and financial flexibility while continuing to give the NBCUniversal-owned studio first-look status on all of its theatrical film projects.
A person familiar with the matter told TheWrap that Amblin will not be acquired by Universal and instead continue to operate independently under a straight overall deal with Spielberg retaining creative control. The individual added that the move may result in a mix of layoffs and some contracts not being renewed.
“Universal is my ancestral studio home, and this next chapter in our longstanding partnership will provide Amblin with the creative flexibility and autonomy that I know will allow us to succeed together in the future,” Spielberg said in a statement. “I’m eternally grateful to our entire team at Amblin for their work and dedication over the years,...

Be careful what you wish for.
That was the central message of The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 6.
George truly hadn't thought through his scheme to bring his lover, Sarah, killed on The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 2, back to life.
No, George didn't much care if thousands had to die, at least temporarily, if Sarah was alive again afterward.
Archie should have recognized George's grieving yet determined frame of mind during their philosophical discussions of why Lazarus operatives shouldn't use time resets for their purposes. Her sad story about losing Ross didn't convince him; she should have picked up on that.
Now George has been running about Europe for three episodes, which should have given Archie some pause.
Instead, she first chalked it up to him taking time off while in mourning. Then, after he called her while running from the Romanian police on an unauthorized solo mission, she thought that was initiative.

The news Thursday about Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley’s ascent to bring TV content under her domain doesn’t just speak to the greater NBCUniversal plan to have a more unified strategy across theatrical, TV and streaming.
It’s also a testament to NBCU realizing and relishing the risk-taking, creative-friendly asset the company has in Langley.
There was talk following NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell’s exit over sexual harassment claims that Langley would inherit the post given her billion-dollar-grossing track record at the film studio and as a level-headed balancer of scales in negotiations. Comcast CEO Brian Roberts gave those interim duties to Comcast president Mike Cavanagh, but that wasn’t a means to sideline Langley.

David Zaslav should be sending a fruit basket right about now to Comcast boss Mike Cavanagh.
Hollywood’s gaze has moved from Warner Bros Discovery to NBCUniversal, which has just undergone its latest restructure under the new Comcast president, a move that saw film chief Donna Langley expand her empire into television and the departure of Susan Rovner.
What do the changes mean for NBCU’s television business under Langley, is the company destined for another shake-up on the television side, and was Rovner, who oversaw series such as NBC’s Night Court, one of the biggest new broadcast comedies in the last few years, and Peacock’s acclaimed Poker Face, a success?

Donna Langley: Now with TV!
The chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group has added television oversight as part of a Thursday restructuring at NBCUniversal; Langley’s title is now chairman, NBCUniversal Studio Group & chief content officer. Susan Rovner, who was chairman of entertainment content for NBCU’s television and streaming division, is leaving the company.
Rovner’s counterpart, Frances Berwick, will be elevated to chairman, NBCUniversal Entertainment, a newly formed role reporting into both Langley and NBCUniversal Media Group Chairman Mark Lazarus.
The news was announced Thursday by Mike Cavanaugh, who took over in April after Jeff Shell exited following an investigation into sexual harassment. Cavanaugh’s restructure includes himself as president but no CEO; in place of that position are a hand-picked leadership team. In addition to Langley overseeing all content, Lazarus will lead Peacock, NBC Sports, and affiliates, Cesar Conde has the news division, and Mark Woodbury leads parks.

Universal film chief Donna Langley is set to take control of content and creative ops across NBCUniversal’s portfolio of brands, as TV chief Susan Rovner exits the company.
The shakeup in leadership is the first major restructuring move made by Comcast president Mike Cavanagh since he took direct oversight of subsidiary NBCU upon the ousting of CEO Jeff Shell in April.
In a memo to staff Thursday, Cavanagh announced NBCUniversal will be reorganized into four key units: NBCUniversal Studio Group, led by Langley, NBCUniversal Media Group, run by chairman of TV and streaming Mark Lazarus, NBCU News Group, run by existing news boss Cesar Conde, and the Universal Destinations and Experiences Group, headed up by parks boss Mark Woodbury.
Cavanagh is doubling down on his decision to not name a new CEO of NBCU, and instead continue to oversee the media company from his role as president of Comcast.

So George didn't come to his senses after all.
Instead, the fledgling agent continued his ill-conceived plan in The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 4.
While he was forging onward, we mostly learned Shiv's back story.
Over the past couple of episodes, it's become readily apparent why Shiv is such a dark, broody dude.
Shiv carries around a ton of guilt, doesn't he? And that's just the handful of incidents about which we know.
It was encouraging to see Shiv was once a good-hearted youth. Some of that heart still peeks through even after he became a Lazarus agent, regardless of the emotional armor he puts up.
It wasn't surprising Shiv was an early developer, learning to walk and talk seemingly overnight. Whether that was because of time loops or because he was just an advanced child wasn't clear.
By his teen years, the intelligent Shiv had determined he remained aware of...

This explained a lot about how Rebrov ended up where he has.
The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 3 dug into the former Lazarus agent turned terrorist who was captured, offscreen no less, on the previous episode.
Rebrov's story did an admirable job of making viewers think about who is on the side of right: Lazarus or those such as Rebrov attempting to stop their efforts.
The answer is Lazarus. But things aren't as clear-cut as they previously had seemed.
At the center of this philosophical battle is loss.
Sure, Lazarus is saving millions of people trying to prevent mass-extinction events, as explained on The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 1.
But there are those suffering individual losses every time there is a time loop.
These included members of The Lazarus Project itself.
Archie lost her partner/lover Ross when they finally completed their mission to stop a nuclear war in an Eastern European country.

Comedians are having to reinvent themselves in the modern era of social awareness. Comedy has long been a device to promote social discourse, used as a space for comedians to bring awareness to social issues and get people talking about them. Think Norman Lear sitcoms like "All in the Family" or George Carlin's controversial takes on religion and media.
But with social media and a changing barometer of what's socially appropriate, the business of comedy is changing. For some, the threat of being canceled means taking past punch lines off the setlist. But not everyone is listening.
For example, in a time when transgender rights are being stripped, Ricky Gervais and Dave Chapelle still recently released Netflix specials that included transphobic jokes. It caused a fair amount of backlash, though neither has suffered any real consequence, short of one Chapelle show cancellation in Minneapolis.
Before we went all-in on cancel culture,...

New Delhi, March 3 (Ians) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has slammed Rohit Sharma & Co for their nine-wicket loss to Australia in the third Test at Indore, pointing out that the defeat came due to a little bit of complacency and overconfidence.
On Day One of the Test, India lost seven wickets in the first session after electing to bat first, as Matthew Kuhnemann ran through to pick his maiden five-wicket haul as they were bowled out for meagre 109.
After Australia took an 88-run lead, India were bowled out for 163 in the second innings. Barring top-order batter Cheteshwar Pujara’s 59, none of the batters stepped up as Nathan Lyon took an eight-wicket haul to give Australia a target of 76, which they chased down in 18.5 overs on Friday.
“This is what a little complacency, a little bit of overconfidence can do where you take things for granted, you drop guard and...

Back in camp, Sam’s treating Silas who looks like he’s going to eventually recover. Gavin (Eoin Macken) and Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) argue over Levi, with Gavin convinced Levi’s made his choice and now they have to do what’s best for their family without him. Izzy doesn’t think they should turn their back on Levi that quickly.
Josh (Jack Martin) promises to look after Izzy while they’re off trying to get into the Tower.

Tom Hardy, it looks like Hardy is going to play a notorious serial killer in the new Apple TV+ drama series _Lazarus.
Based on the Joona Linna book series by Lars Kepler (a pseudonym for Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril), Lazarus sees an emaciated young man found wandering along a train track. Over a decade earlier, he and his sister went missing, and were presumed to be victims of multiple murderer Jurek Walter (Hardy). A search for the sister is launched, headed up by police detective Saga Bauer, set to be played by Joker and Atlanta star Zazie Beetz. Bauer goes undercover in a maximum-security psychiatric hospital where Walter resides since his arrest to try and get some details out of him – and, yep, if that’s sounding familiar, there’s definitely a Hannibal Lecter-Clarice Starling vibe to all of this.
The series is still nearing development and closing deals,...

NBCUniversal executives Chip Sullivan and Allison Rawlings have had their roles expanded in an effort to “bring the Television & Streaming portfolio closer together,” per a memo sent to staff on Thursday by Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCU Television & Streaming.
Sullivan and Rawlings will both now have additional oversight of Peacock.
Rawlings, who joined NBCU in 2016, currently serves as executive vice president of strategic communications for entertainment networks and has had her title updated to executive vice president of communications for the television and streaming group. She reports to Lazarus.
Sullivan has been with NBCU since 2015. He remains executive vice president of entertainment communications, and reports to Frances Berwick, chairman of entertainment networks.
See Lazarus’ full memo below.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday and was able to take some time to unplug and reconnect with family and friends.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Lazarus Project finale.
Even if season one of The Lazarus Project ended with all the characters safe, happy and playing gin rummy while the world enjoyed a sunny, peril-free existence, a second season renewal for this sci-fi thriller would still have been essential because The Lazarus Project is great viewing. It’s exciting and involving, action-filled and, despite its darker-than-dark premise, often very funny. Whatever happened in the finale, we were always going to want more.
And more is the plan, according to creator Joe Barton. Speaking to Den of Geek ahead of launch, Barton confirmed that the first run is “definitely left open for a season two” and he would love to do it. “We’re working on scripts at the moment. Sky are very supportive of it, but it’s like with anything, we have to wait and see how it does and what the reaction is.
