The Pole is the tournament's top seed and a former champion (2020) when the event was staged at an International level. China's Lin Zhu became the inaugural champion when the tournament was a freshly minted 250-level event last season.

Amanda Anisimova is feeling positive after winning return to tennis after overcoming an injury knock to progress at the 2024 Asb Classic in Auckland.
Anisimova returned to the courts for the first time since April 2023 after the American player announced that she was taking an indefinite break from the sport due to mental health reasons.
However, the 22-year-old showed no signs of rustiness at the Asb Classic as she cruised to a first-round straight-sets victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Auckland.
It was the ideal return for Anisimova, who set up a second-round tie against Marie Bouzkova at the Asb Classic following her victory.
When reflecting on the win, and her eight-month layoff from tennis, the American player admitted to feeling delighted about playing again, despite some injury concerns ahead of her match with Pavlyuchenkova.
"I’m so happy to be here. I love this tournament. It’s so nice to start the year out here.

Amanda Anisimova has been granted a wild card to play at the 2024 Asb Classic in Auckland, marking her first official Wta tournament in eight months.
Anismova, 22, took an indefinite break from tennis in April 2023, following four straight defeats culminating with a first-round exit at the Madrid Open. Defeat to Arantxa Rus in the Spanish capital effectively ended her season, and she did not give details of her return date.
The young American cited concerns about her mental health and struggles with burnout. In her shocking announcement last season, the 22-year-old explained that being at tennis tournaments had become "unbearable" and that she would prioritize her mental well-being.
Anisimova's career at the top level has been bittersweet. The former US Open junior champion scored some impressive wins in her teenage years and was one of the brightest young prospects on tour when she broke the Wta's Top 100 after turning 17.

Amanda Anisimova is set to end her indefinite break and return to the tour in the 2024 season, according to reports.
The 22-year-old last played on the Wta tour in late April, where she lost in the first round of the Madrid Open to Arantxa Rus. It was the eighth defeat in 11 matches this season before she announced her decision to take a mental health break from tennis.
At the time, she admitted to struggling with "mental health and burnout" since the summer of 2022 and that being at tennis tournaments was "unbearable" to her body. Eventually, she arrived at the decision to stop playing for an undefined period.
It appears she has managed to sort her headspace and is ready to return to the tour in 2024, having signed up for the Hobart International, which kicks off in the second week of January, and the Australian Open. It will be a full...

In its inaugural edition as a Tour level event, the 2023 Ningbo Open is among a plethora of tennis tournaments taking place on the Asian continent.
The Ningbo Open was initially staged as part of the Wta 125K series before it became defunct. But with the Wta finally lifting its suspension of events being staged in China, we'll have a freshly minted tournament as part of the 2023 calendar.
It features a competitive field for a Wta 250 category, which will be played from September 25th to 30th at the ostentatiously constructed Yinzhou Tennis Centre. The 32-woman lineup will be led by two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova - the tournament's top seed.
The Czech left-hander is the most decorated player in the draw and has won three of her 31 career titles on Chinese soil. American Jennifer Brady , who recently returned from career-threatening injuries , is making full use of her protected ranking status.

Wta world number one Iga Swiatek established a cushion over world number two and closest challenger Aryna Sabalenka in the rankings.
The latest Wta Rankings see Swiatek maintain a firm grip over the Belarusian, after winning her first Wta title on home turf at the weekend. Swiatek beat the weather and two opponents on the same day to win the 2023 Poland Open .
Swiatek adds 175 points for her title run in which she did not drop a single set all week. She will sit in top spot with 9,490 points which is 645 points more than Sabalenka in second place on 8,845 points. Elena Rybakina remains in third place, and like Sabalenka, is taking an extended time off after Wimbledon.
The trio will be in action in the next Wta 1000 stop in Montreal in the second week of August. That could leave Jessica Pegula with a clear run in reclaiming the number three ranking.

Gauff started this year in fantastic fashion, winning a trophy early which made everyone think that her major breakout is here. She's been at the top for a while now but she's yet to win a signature title that would signal to everybody that peak Gauff has arrived.
Peaking at a very young age is tough to do and while some like Swiatek were able to do so, the American's trajectory is one of a slow rise. There isn't a specific reason for that, not like the coaching carousel that slowed down the career of some other player , even though many pointed out to her forehand as issues she needs to fix .

Coco Gauff had to dig deep in her opening match at the 2023 Roland Garros, beating Rebeka Masarova in three sets.
After reaching the final last year, the expectations were high for the American ahead of the tournament. But she drew a talented Spanish player Masarova, who managed to break into the Top 100 on the Wta Tour this year.
The two met once already this year in Auckland and it was a victorious match for Gauff who won her first title of the season there. This time, the 19-year-old was the favourite once again, but her clay-court preparation has been far from ideal after an early exit in Rome.
