At the ACM Awards on Thursday, Miranda Lambert performed her recently released single, “Wranglers.” She had previously given the tune its debut at the Stagecoach Festival, where she also performed with frequent ACMs host Reba McEntire, in April.
Lambert’s live debut of the track was appropriately fiery, as the cowboy-hat-clad star belted out the slow burn of a track on the ACM stage. Her latest revenge anthem was released earlier this month, her first new single in two years.
Lambert has described “Wranglers” as song about a woman reclaiming power.

Wade Bowen never stopped pouring his heart out in his songs. What’s different about him after 25-plus years of music is the amount of joy in those pours.
“We’re having so much fun playing music, we’re having so much fun writing songs and recording,” Bowen tells Rolling Stone. “I feel like we’re in this amazing groove right now, and I feel like we need to keep the pedal down.”
Bowen is talking about Flyin, his latest record, out now. But he is also talking about his world at the moment.

Gunmen: Mario Van Peebles fondly recalls working with Christopher Lambert on underrated 90s actioner
The other day, one of our writers sat down with Mario Van Peebles to talk about his upcoming spiritual sequel to Posse, Outlaw Posse. In the pretty awesome conversation, we asked Mario about what we consider a pretty underrated movie of his, Gunmen. This 1994 action flick paired him with Christopher Lambert, with an all-star cast that included Denis Leary as the film’s villain, Patrick Stewart, and nineties dream girl Brenda Bakke, as well as 90s rappers like Big Daddy Kane, Eric B, Rakim, Doctor Dre and Ed Lover – who all played themselves. It’s a tough movie to find these days, but Peebles had fond memories of what they were trying to accomplish with it.
“Gunmen tips a hat to The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. My character, Christophe’s character, and the other character have a piece of the puzzle as to where the cachet of gold is.

A highlight of 2024’s TCM Classic Film Festival was the world premiere of a pristine restoration of John Ford‘s “The Searchers,” one of the greatest Westerns ever made and certainly — given its impact on directors like Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, and Paul Schrader — one of the most influential. “The Searchers” was photographed in VistaVision, arguably the best of the widescreen formats that emerged in the 1950s to combat television’s encroachment on the film business, and to see it projected on the big screen is a transcendent experience — especially if one is lucky enough to view the 70mm print that premiered at TCM’s fest and is currently making its way around the revival circuit (it screens in Los Angeles at the American Cinematheque on May 3 and 4).

In deciding on our next Wtf celebrity to cover, we passed around several names but in the end we all decided that: There could be only One! Despite being basically blind, Christopher Lambert made a name for himself as the king of Sci-Fi action films. One could say he single-handedly kept Blockbuster Video in business as most of his output in the 90’s debuted on the bottom shelves of the video rental chain. But few performers have made their mark on the international stage like Christopher Lambert, alternating between North American schlock and more prestigious French fare. Despite most of us knowing Lambert mainly for two iconic roles, there is much more to know about this American-born French actor; it’s time we find out just Wtf Happened to Christopher Lambert.

Despite having lost three of her shipmates to an alien invader she doesn’t understand, despite learning that her shipmate and science officer Ash (Ian Holm) is an android, despite nearly getting killed when Ash tried to shove a porn mag down her throat, it’s something else that truly disturbs Ripley in Alien. It’s the two words she saw in a message from her employer: “crew expendable”
With those two words, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) realizes that she’s at the bottom of a food chain, and not just because there’s a bloodthirsty Xenomorph on board. Never one to portray businesses or anyone with power in a favorable light, Alien director Ridley Scott took writers Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett’s idea about a haunted house movie set in space and turned it into a screed against the ruling classes.

Miranda Lambert Has Been Keeping Herself Busy
It wasn’t all that long ago that Miranda Lambert officially wrapped her Velvet Rodeo residency in Las Vegas. No one would blame her for taking a break to enjoy her successful run. However, since the Velvet Rodeo wrapped, Lambert hasn’t slowed down one bit.
Lambert has scattered tour dates from now all the way up to September. In addition, she even teased her brand-new single, Wranglers, which has an official release date of May 3. There are a lot of new things to be excited about if you’re a Miranda Lambert fan, with plenty more on the way.

Now that "Dune: Part Two" has arrived and passed multiple box office milestones, director Denis Villeneuve can claim to have done the impossible and successfully adapted Frank Herbert's "unfilmable" 1965 novel. 2021's "Dune" and the sequel's critical and commercial triumphs are well-earned, too, with Villeneuve and his team delivering a truly epic sci-fi two-parter that immerses viewers in a world that feels at once alien and believably real.
The Oscar-winning effects in "Dune" and its sequel create an impressive sense of scale, but they're also remarkable for achieving such a feat without making the films feel akin to the blockbuster CGI-fests we're used to in the modern age. Villeneuve, cinematographer Greig Fraser, and production designer Patrice Vermette managed to craft a world that feels visceral and convincing throughout, despite the heavy use of visual effects. The buzz around this year’s Stagecoach Festival, kicking off Friday in Indio, California, is among the loudest in the country music fest’s 16-year history. Tickets sold out in less than a month after going on sale last September — hitting that mark months before sister festival Coachella — and giving Stagecoach its biggest sales ever. Credit that to the current country music boom and to a stellar lineup put together by Stacy Vee, EVP of festival talent for Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach.

A ragtag crew of criminals and hackers is assembled by Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito), working for someone he isn’t allowed to name. Ridley Scott’s Alien is widely considered one of the most influential science fiction and horror films of all time. Alien received mixed reviews at the time of release but managed to find success at the box office. Scott was meticulous with the film and did everything in his capacity to bring his vision to the screen. It also meant that he had to make some wise choices about what made it to the screen and what was removed from the film.
Sigourney Weaver in a still from Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979)
Fans believe that one such decision proved to make a difference in the film as it would have turned the film into a complete joke. The film removed parts of the footage where the Xenomorph attacks and kills Veronica Cartwright’s Lambert.

This post contains spoilers for Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" films.
When the Atreides first arrive in Arrakis in "Dune: Part One," we get our first glimpse of the mystical sandworms from the aerial perspective of a roving ornithopter. Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) notices the steady advent of the creature beneath the sand, the disturbance caused by its hidden scale leading up to an awe-inspiring scene: a gigantic, bottomless mouth swallowing one of the spice harvesting machines. As the Atreides do not know much about the Fremen and their relationship with Shai Hulud at this point, this first introduction feels even more intriguing, with a decided air of danger encircling the mysterious worm-like creatures.
Denis Villeneuve maintains the mystique surrounding the sandworms in "Part One" with the aid of a simple, yet effective strategy, where small glimpses of the creatures are peppered throughout to build up to the stunning reveal when...

Miranda Lambert always has a trick up her flannel sleeves. Recently, she dropped a surprise announcement that sent her fans into a frenzy. So, what do we know so far about this most recent update and what it entails?
Miranda Lambert Always Keeps Her Fans On Their Toes
In addition to topping the charts with killer tunes for the last two decades, one of the many things that Miranda Lambert fans love about her is that she always seems to have more than a few tricks up her sleeve. One recent example of this is her doubling the amount of shows for her recently-concluded Velvet Rodeo Las Vegas residency.
Initially, her run in Sin City was only supposed to be 24 shows. The demand and the overall turnout was so good that she doubled the amount of shows, going from 24 to 48. This meant more opportunities for fans to catch her one-of-a-kind show,...

Country star Miranda Lambert recently shared a sweet tribute to the original Man in Black, Johnny Cash. So, what did Miranda do recently to pay tribute to the legend?
Johnny Cash Is A Music Icon
Even for people who are not that into country music, they’ve undoubtedly heard of the legend, Johnny Cash. In many ways, Cash is to country music what the Beatles are to rock and roll. However, Cash is remembered for more than just his music, even two decades after his passing.
Johnny Cash was a pioneer, and a maverick of his time. In addition to succeeding on the charts, his music resonated with so many for the authenticity of his lyrics, as much as for the swagger he had as an individual. A true testament to his impact is how many people to this day still cite him and his work as a primary influence,...

Just as audiences may have finally finished cleaning off the blood splatter from Ready or Not and the two most recent Scream films, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have returned to the big screen with Abigail. And staying true to what horror fans have come to expect from their previous efforts, Abigail is a high-octane, high-energy horror film that pulls no punches or fangs, making for another scary good time at the cinema.
After kidnapping a 12-year-old ballerina (Alisha Weir) from her wealthy father’s estate, a group of mysterious criminals heads to a secluded safehouse for the night. Intentionally anonymous to each other and hired by the enigmatic Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito), the kidnappers are each given an alias based on members of the Rat Pack: there’s former Army medic Joey (Melissa Barrera), the temperamental Frank (Dan Stevens), the tech-savvy Sammy (Kathryn Newton), the wheelman Dean (Angus Cloud...

This article contains massive spoilers for "Abigail."
Dancing ballet en Pointe is arguably one of the hardest styles of dance to perfect. It takes years of training and rigorous dedication to master the move, and even still, without the support of pointe shoes, the body alone is not enough to withstand the pressure of the weight of a full human on such a small surface area. Ballet en Pointe can be hell on the body — especially the feet — but when executed properly, it looks absolutely effortless. In "Abigail," the incredible new horror film from the creative collective known as Radio Silence, a group of criminals are tasked with kidnapping a small girl named Abigail and holding her for ransom only to discover that they've been set up, and Abigail is a vampire who has locked them in her mansion of horrors to "play with her food" before devouring them all.

Over the decades, vampire movies have made a star of many a young actor, from Kirsten Dunst to Kirsten Stewart. Soon, the same should be said of Ireland’s Alisha Weir, who at 13 years old, held Universal’s monster movie Abigail on her highly capable shoulders.
In the film from Radio Silence, which hits theaters today, Weir is introduced as Abigail, a ballerina enthusiast taken captive by a band of criminals seeking a $50 million ransom from her crime boss father. Brought onto the job Reservoir Dogs style by a figure named Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito), the gang soon realizes they’re in far over their head, as it’s revealed that what they believed to be their safe house is not so safe at all. No ordinary girl, Abigail is in fact a vampire who’ll make a game of picking them off one by one.

Stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before: Some criminals abduct a rich guy’s child and demand a hefty sum to give the youngster back. The “victim” then proceeds to make life hell for the kidnappers. It’s more or less the plot of The Ransom of Red Chief, arguably O. Henry’s best-known work. And like a lot of people who’ve read this enduring staple of school-reading curricula over the decades, you probably got to the final paragraph (“And as dark as it was,...

An old saying goes that “You can’t keep a good man down”. Well, despite the meager box office returns for last year’s big Dracula flicks, Renfield, and The Last Voyage Of The Demeter, this weekend’s new monster movie believes that “You can’t keep a good vampire down”. Really, they just keep popping up, just check out those Christopher Lee Hammer Film classics. Ha, “down for the Count”…and enough of the “groaners”. Although this new flick’s working title was “Dracula’s Daughter”, this chiller isn’t officially connected to the Bram Stoker creation. For one thing, it’s set in today’s world, so a speedy beaten van replaces the horse-drawn carriages. Oh, and it’s got elements of a crime thriller. This tale concerns a “snatch and grab” crew who get more than they bargained for when their target is Abigail.

One could be forgiven for thinking they’d wandered into the wrong theater when Abigail begins. A group of bumbling fools manage to pull it together long enough to follow a child ballerina, Abigail (Alisha Weir), back to her father’s estate, snatch her from her bed, and make a slick getaway back to their cool, calm, collected employer, Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito). In exchange for $7 million apiece, all they need to do is babysit the frightened Abigail in a different estate until Lambert negotiates with her father for a ransom. It sounds like easy money until Abigail, who seems like she’s forging a makeshift bond with one of her kidnappers, blurts out through tears, “I’m sorry for everything that’s going to happen to you.”
Right around then is when the rollercoaster that is Abigail starts its delirious, grisly descent into hell. That is, when it becomes abundantly...

Universal has struggled to in recent years to bring back its classic horror franchises like Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, etc., attempts that were perhaps too literal. But thanks to the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence they have, with Abigail, perhaps stumbled onto a way to keep the party going. In this case it is back to the immortal vampire story to end them all, Dracula, but here the bloodsucking title star is his 12-year-old daughter, not the infamous man himself who is reduced to a mere cameo.
Last year the studio tried a variation on the tale with Renfield, which starred Nicholas Hoult as the sidekick to Nicolas Cage’s campy take on the legend but lost its way. I am happy to report that using a blend of a heist flick married to ghoulish and grand over-the-top supernatural bloodletting does the trick in Abigail, a movie...

Plot: A group of criminals kidnap a young girl who isn’t what she seems.
Review: There was a period in my youth when vampire films ranked amongst the coolest in the horror genre. Films such as The Lost Boys, Fright Night, Near Dark, and From Dusk Till Dawn knew how to tell a story while not forgetting to show us a good time. With directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s latest film, Abigail, this pair delivers by bringing the fun back into horror. As with 2019’s Ready or Not, this genre-mixing rollercoaster primarily takes place in a large mansion, but instead of one lead being hunted, it’s an entire group.
The film jumps right into gear with the abduction of Abigail (Alisha Weir), the 12-year-old ballerina who is the daughter of a very powerful and wealthy man. Guaranteed a hefty ransom for the kidnapping is a motley crew of miscreants,...

Abigail, the latest from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, feels like a spiritual sibling to their 2019 hit Ready or Not. Both are set almost entirely within a sprawling, warm-toned mansion and both deliver copious blood splatter to a delightfully satisfying degree. But Abigail is an inverse of Ready or Not; instead of one heroine targeted and preyed upon by a group of morally dubious enemies, it’s one vicious threat picking off morally dubious kidnappers one by one, slasher style.
While that may make for a more conventional watch with fewer surprises, Radio Silence’s ballerina vampire movie is a bloody blast all the same.

Miranda Lambert just played her last Velvet Rodeo show as part of her Las Vegas Residency. It was a stint that was incredibly successful for her. So much so that she plans to come back to Sin City, as she also teased a return. So, what do we know so far?
Miranda Lambert Had A Successful Run In Las Vegas
Miranda Lambert played her final Velvet Rodeo show in Las Vegas on April 6. This conclusion marked the end of her successful, lucrative, and entertaining time in Sin City. Over the course of a year and a half run, Lambert played 48 shows in Las Vegas, and the crowds continued to show up to watch her perform.

Most filmmakers would kill to have a track record like the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence. Breaking in with the anthology horror films "V/H/S" and "Southbound" as well as the found footage flick "Devil's Due," the crew skyrocketed to new heights with the crowd-pleasing horror-comedy favorite "Ready or Not," which more than proved they were capable of taking over the reins for "Scream V" and "Scream VI." Now, collective co-founders Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back in their directors' chairs for an original horror story, unleashing the balls-to-the-wall "Abigail," aka "the ballerina vampire movie." The trailer alone had already firmly placed this on my most anticipated films list of 2024, but my deep love of "Ready or Not" meant my expectations were sky-high. And yet, somehow, those wild Radio Silence boys knocked this out of the park and into the stratosphere, crafting arguably their best film yet.

For day two of our Abigail set visit coverage, we got to speak with actors Kevin Durand and the legendary Giancarlo Esposito.
Recently, JoBlo was invited to visit the set of Radio Silence’s newest Universal monster movie, Abigail (Check Out Kathryn Newton Interview Here), a film best described by the directors as “a heist movie hijacked by a monster movie.”
Just as the day was ending on day two, we returned to the Glenmaroon House, the massively beautiful set for the vampire film. Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, and Melissa Barrera welcomed us in as they were getting ready to film their big introduction to the crew, as seen in the brand new trailer. In this scene, Lambert (played by Giancarlo Esposito) tells a group of the heist the girl they kidnapped is the daughter of a “very wealthy man who is about to be 50 million dollars poorer.”

The latest from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Abigail, transforms a heist movie into a full-blown vampire horror movie blood bath. What sounds like absolute bad news for the would-be criminals tasked with what seems like an easy job should make for an entertaining thrill ride for audiences.

Dublin, Ireland. Headquarters of Guinness, Jameson, and the most overpriced beer you can find in the Temple Bar area. Steeped in history, Dublin boasts landmarks like Trinity College and Dublin Castle, emblematic of its medieval heritage. Amidst its historical allure, the city’s streets thrive with the energy of bustling pubs resonating with music and culinary delights. However, beyond its libations and cultural landmarks, Dublin harbors a lesser-known connection to vampire folklore.
Since early childhood, my mother took me to the movies weekly. And horror was always a shared love. It was an obsession I’m sure many of us share. My love for vampire films and stories began as soon as I was introduced to The Lost Boys. But Ireland was special for us. Having ancestral ties to the majestic island, we always dreamed of visiting it and taking in the stunning landscape one day.
So, how do vampires and Ireland come into play?...

It's always important to watch your step when visiting a film set. There are cables snaking across the floor, expensive equipment sitting around, and random props that could mess up continuity if they're moved. But in one room on the set of Radio Silence's upcoming ballerina vampire movie "Abigail," the biggest challenge is trying not to tread on any intestines.
Though some filming took place in constructed sets and on the streets of Dublin, the vast majority of "Abigail" was shot inside Glenmaroon House. Located on the edge of Dublin's Phoenix Park, it's a party mansion built 120 years ago by playboy beer empire heir Arthur Guinness, who connected it to his adjacent family home via a footbridge so that he could switch from "family man" mode to "party animal" mode with minimal walking. Glenmaroon's luxuries include a smoking lounge, a grand stained glass window, and an indoor swimming pool -- which,...

Creating a horror prequel is trickier business than a sequel. The rules are far less rigid in sequels, with expanded body count and lore most often being the primary goals. But a horror movie prequel has the tougher needle to thread in ensuring all of its pieces nestle neatly within the previously established framework without contradicting any details.
This week brings the arrival of The Omen prequel, The First Omen, charting the events leading up to Antichrist Damien Thorn’s adoption. It makes for the perfect excuse to revisit horror prequels that successfully earned their spot in their franchises through unique shifts in setting, tone, and style without veering too far off the beaten path.
This week’s streaming picks highlight horror movie prequels that get weird or dial up the horror in intense ways while further fleshing out familiar characters and storylines.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Country superstar Miranda Lambert always has something new and exciting up her sleeve. Recently, the singer warned her fans, and told them to saddle up for something entirely new. So, what can her millions of fans expect?
Miranda Lambert Closing Out Her Velvet Rodeo In Las Vegas
After a hugely successful run with her very own residency in Las Vegas, Miranda Lambert’s Velvet Rodeo has only a handful of shows left before she rides off into the sunset toward something new. Lambert’s Sin City residency has been a major hit with concert-goers.
One sign that you’ve truly made it in the industry is when you can have your own residency like Miranda Lambert has. To consistently sell out your residency venue is a big accomplishment in itself. So, Miranda Lambert definitely has something to hang her cowgirl hat on as she comes up on the remaining handful of shows.

Stephen King is at his best when he's writing about his fears as a father. With "The Shining," he took his alcoholism and made the lead Jack Torrance into a worst-case scenario, someone who destroys his family (and potential writing career) because he lets his addiction consume him.
Then there's "Pet Sematary," which is all about the primal fear any parent has of their child dying. The Creed family moves to rural Maine, in a house right next to a lethal road frequented by trailer trucks. After the family cat Church becomes roadkill, Dr. Louis Creed and neighbor Jud Crandall bury the cat in an ancient Mi'kmaq burial ground. Church returns, alive but worse for wear. When Louis' toddler son Gage is killed by another oncoming truck, he can't resist the temptation to bring his son back.
