Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart debuted in the MCU with 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. While not a protégé of Tony Stark, Riri Williams is also a brilliant tech wiz/inventor who built her own suit of armor with the help of the Wakandans in the film. The character’s spunk and charm made audiences want to see more of her in the MCU.

In July 2018, a film based on the Marvel Comics character Riri Williams/Ironheart had a script written by Jada Rodriguez and was listed on The Black List. However, the film did not materialize. In December 2020, Marvel Studios announced the development of a Disney+ television series titled ‘Ironheart.’
Now 3 years after her first appearance, it looks like the wait is finally over for Riri as her show will release in 2025. During the Disney Upfront presentation, plenty of information has been presented and we decided to conveniently summarize them for you in this neat guide.
Ironheart will follow Riri after the events of ‘Wakanda Forever’
Not much was known about the show except that it will follow Riri Williams. Now we know that it’s going to follow Riri after her return back home to Chicago and she will discover “dangerous threads that bring danger and adventure”.

How might one sum up 2022 and all of its movie-related (stop-motion) monkey business?
These past 12 months have been a pretty darn bumpy ride, complete with their share of hand-wringing over the future of cinema. On the flip side, they saw the movie industry make vital gains in representation, all while unique, challenging films misfired left and right financially, and even superhero tentpoles caught the box office blues. Meanwhile, other movies went far harder than expected, giving us writers a free excuse to use the term "maximalist" many times over. (No shade here -- it's a fun word!) They also taught us valuable lessons about the power of radical empathy, the value of vulnerability, and the joys of punching fascists, colonialists, and other oppressors in the face.
But before we get into the top 10 of it all, some honorable mentions -- call them my alternate top 10. Their ranks include:

Animation for children deserves more respect, especially lately. In an industry that values profits over artistic risks, kids' animation remains a dismissible art form, and the intelligence of its audience is often underestimated. In 2022, the industry faced HBO Max's purge of several animated projects, an ongoing battle for fair wages, and the abridgement or outright cancelation of numerous shows and movies. Looking back, it's hard to not wonder what might have been.
These obstacles are especially notable given how much animation aimed at children has evolved over the years. A number of 2022's animated projects were particularly inventive and thought-provoking. It was a year full of glorious stop-motion productions, breathtaking visual innovations, and major milestones when it comes to queer visibility. Just remember: For our purposes, "kids" is an inclusive term that refers to both actual children as well as the kid that exists in every adult. With that in mind,...

A lonely orphan. A strange, old-fashioned boarding school. The discovery of unexpected magical powers. Does this sound familiar? It has been the stuff of popular children’s books for almost a century, but this animated feature from Henry Selick, co-written by Jordan Peele, does it a litlle differently. 13-year-old Kat (voiced by Lyric Ross) is a troubled kid who blames herself for the car crash which killed her parents, and has repeatedly acted out as a result. Due to this, she has been passed around in the system from one place to another, nobody really willing to do the work to help her recover. Now she’s at the final stage, placed into the care of nuns, told to be on her best behaviour. It’s a somewhat awkward situation in which to discover that one is a hellmaiden.
A what now? Oh yes. Young Kat possesses a rare gift: the ability to summon.

One of the more popular sketches to originate from Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s sketch comedy series Key & Peele was the substitute teacher sketch. Key played Mr. Garvey, a tightly wound inner-city teacher who had problem pronouncing the names of his middle-class white students, such as Aaron as A. A. Ron or Jacqueline as Jay-kwellin. Well, Key has reprised his role of the iconic substitute teacher in a new commercial for the Paramount+ streaming service.
Perched atop Paramount Mountain, Mr. Garvey goes through a roll call for a group of animated and human characters, such as Dora the Explorer, Bumblebee, Murf, and more. The end of the commercial also includes a callback to the very first substitute teacher sketch thanks to an appearance from Los Angeles Rams player Aaron Donald.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, Lyric Ross takes our call.
Lyric Ross voices Kat in "Wendell & Wild," Netflix's new social-commentary-studded stop-motion horror movie. The feature, which aired on Oct. 28, sees Ross's Kat literally go to hell and back while also fighting corruption in her hometown and rocking a great punk-rock sense of style.
At just 19 years old, Ross - who you may recognize as Déjà Pearson from "This Is Us" - is a standout in "Wendell & Wild." Her performance adds a singular sense of heart and angst to her character, who loses her parents and is sent to a Catholic foster home. There, she finds herself haunted by a couple of local...

"Wendell & Wild," the latest animation offering from stop-motion juggernaut Henry Selick ("The Nightmare Before Christmas"), is as weird and wonderful as a Selick and Jordan Peele collaboration sounds. While only several weeks old, the film already feels buried beneath the sheer volume of television and movies Netflix released this Halloween season. As soon as one film lands on the streaming platform, hundreds of titles are waiting in the wings to take its place. But "Wendell & Wild" is not only Selick's first directorial outing since "Coraline," but also a stop-motion saga that deserves to stand alongside the latter as a pioneering piece of animation.
With a script co-written by Peele, "Wendell & Wild" is as funny -- and scary -- as his involvement suggests. The film revolves around Kat Elliot's (Lyric Ross) quest to revive her parents from the dead. "Wendell & Wild" barrels through a tapestry of gothic horror iconography,...

The two devious demon brothers Wendell and Wild have to face their arch-enemy with the help of the nun Sister Helly, who is notorious for expelling demons. However, the brothers are not only plagued by her, but also by her altar boys.
It may be hard to believe, but Henry Selick has not directed another movie since his 2009 stop-motion animated horror family flick Coraline, based on the highly acclaimed novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman. That is, until now. After all these years, Selick has finally returned to filmmaking in the form of yet another stop-motion animated film called Wendell & Wild. In 2009, it was considered almost shocking when Pixar’s Up addressed the subject of death in its now-classic opening sequence, a bittersweet mini-movie of love and loss.
Nowadays, after 2017’s Coco and 2020’s Soul, and with Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio on the horizon, it’s hard to believe it was ever thought that a commercial animated movie couldn’t — or, more pertinently, shouldn’t — tackle such dark themes. But while that door is now open, Henry Selick’s Wendell & Wild finds inventive ways to blow the hinges off, going even further into cult territory than he has ever been before.
In retrospect, who would have thought that The Nightmare Before Christmas, Selick’s cheerily gothic 1993 collaboration with Tim Burton, would turn out to be merely a curtain-raiser to the director’s own bizarre sensibilities, which led to the misunderstood 2001 flop Monkeybone and 2009’s rather better-received Coraline? Plot: A young orphan girl discovers she’s a Hell Maiden who has been assigned a pair of personal demons named Wendell and Wild.
Review: About thirty years ago, director / stop-motion animator Henry Selick teamed up with Tim Burton to create a film that has been embraced as both a Halloween classic and a Christmas classic: The Nightmare Before Christmas. Now Selick has joined forces with genre filmmaker Jordan Peele to craft another stop-motion animated film that may not quite reach the level of The Nightmare Before Christmas, but is sure to earn its own solid fanbase. Based on an unpublished novel Selick wrote with Clay McLeod Chapman, the film is called Wendell & Wild – and it’s about a pair of goofball demons.
The lead character in the film is actually Kat Elliot (voiced by Lyric Ross), a young girl whose parents were killed in a car accident five years earlier.

Netflix’s “Wendell & Wild” may be on your radar as Jordan Peele’s first animated feature, but stop-motion fans will be flocking to their living rooms for the return of Henry Selick, the director behind such epics as “Coraline,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “James and the Giant Peach.”
Selick hasn’t occupied the director’s chair since his spooky 2009 masterpiece “Coraline,” so “Wendell & Wild,” co-written by Selick and Peele and produced by Peele under Monkeypaw Productions, has had horror and animation fans everywhere counting down the days until its debut.
Unfortunately, while this eye-popping feature makes the most of Selick’s creative sensibilities, its bloated script hobbles the (blood)flow. This film has everything: demons, zombies, penguin nuns, prosthetic feet, priests in pope hats, arson — and, of course, dead parents. “Wendell & Wild” is jam-packed with so many characters and capital-i issues that one could likely fill...

After 13 years in the wilderness following “Coraline” and the ill-fated passion project “The Shadow King,” Henry Selick returns to form with “Wendell & Wild.” It’s an afro-punk celebration made in collaboration with Jordan Peele (“Nope”) that redefines stop-motion animation with a 2D aesthetic and more experimental approach.

Animation, like social progress, takes a long time. It’s been thirteen years since Henry Selick’s last film, “Coraline,” premiered to critical adoration and major box-office success. Despite a few Oscar nominations and becoming the third-highest-grossing stop-motion film of all time, it still took over a decade for Selick to get another movie made.
Thanks to co-writer Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions, Selick was able to birth another animated fantasy with “Wendell & Wild,” a twisted comedy about the dangers of playing with life and death. Sounds like the perfect topic for a kids’ movie, yeah?

As Henry Selick prepares to debut his well-reviewed film Wendell & Wild, the filmmaker is looking back on why his earlier project The Shadow King was never completed by Disney/Pixar.
“I got the rights back,” Selick reveals in the latest episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Behind the Screen podcast, where he says the film could find new life someday. “I’ll owe Disney a little bit of money if we set it up, but maybe [it will get made]. I absolutely feel that it would be successful and for the right price, if [a potential partner] likes what I’ve written and wants that movie, rather than think they like it and then want to turn it into Toy Story 8.”

The team-up you never knew you needed — director Henry Selick and producer Jordan Peele — is inching ever closer, friends. The upcoming Netflix animated film "Wendell & Wild" has a brand new trailer, and needless to say, the new sneak peek has us just as hyped up for its release as the last one (which was technically just a teaser).
In the new trailer, we meet Kat, a teenage "Hell Maiden" who comes face to face with a team of demons who want out of the Underworld. It is clearly up to Kat, a young punk with nothing to lose, to wrestle with those demons (literally and figuratively) before their army of the dead takes over everything.
/Film's own Sarah Milner reviewed the film out of Toronto International Film Festival and found it "grim, and vibrant, and weird while also being poignant, and stylish, and funny — everything you could want for...

"I don't do friends. Bad things happen to people I'm close to…" Who's ready for a stop-motion horror film this Halloween?? Netflix has revealed the full-length official trailer for Wendell and Wild, a stop-motion animation project from the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick (director of Nightmare Before Christmas & Coraline) and Jordan Peele. After premiering at the Toronto Film Festival a few weeks ago, it will be streaming on Netflix at the end of the month. The film tells the story of Kat (voiced by Lyric Ross), a troubled teen haunted by her past, who must confront her personal demons, Wendell & Wild (Keegan-Michael Key & Jordan Peele) to start a new life in her old hometown. Wendell & Wild also features the voices of Angela Bassett, James Hong, and Ving Rhames. This is a very funky trailer! Editing is a bit wonky, with tons of different characters and footage of all kinds thrown in here.

Henry Selick, whose last feature was 2009’s masterpiece “Coraline,” is back at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival with “Wendell & Wild.” It’s a delightful return to form for the man who put stop-motion back on the map, and a charmingly devious collaboration with comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, reunited after their groundbreaking comedy series ended Tk.
After watching her parents die in a tragic car accident, troubled teen Kat (Lyric Ross) spent her adolescence shunted from juvy home to juvy home, getting in trouble, and hating the world. When she returns to her childhood hometown of Rust Bank to join a local Catholic school’s teen rehabilitation program, she finds a ghost town where there was once a thriving community. Wealthy bureaucrats have overrun the town and now hope to bulldoze the last of the community’s resources to build a private prison.

Too many years might have passed since Henry Selick last graced the animation world with one of his unique stop-motion creations (2009’s Coraline to be exact), but he returns with a fresh, highly original concoction of playful Grand Guignol proportions in the form of Wendell & Wild.
A happy collaboration with Jordan Peele, who unmistakably adds his own personal creative stamp, the horror satire is nevertheless right up Selick’s nightmare alley, complete with demon siblings, reanimated cadavers and penguin nuns, all wrapped up in a subversive punk rock sensibility. While it would obviously never be mistaken for gentler Pixar fare, the Netflix title (it’s scheduled to land on the streamer Oct. 28, a week after a theatrical bow) packs an all-ages appeal, based on the roar of approval that greeted its TIFF world premiere screening.

Move over "The Nightmare Before Christmas" — there's a new stop-motion horror flick in town, ready to steal the hearts and inspire cosplay. Premiering at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, "Wendell & Wild" is the much-hyped collaboration between the king of stop-motion animation, Henry Selick, and acclaimed horror director and funny man, Jordan Peele. The two filmmakers have very different styles, but are able to blend them beautifully; "Wendell & Wild" is grim, and vibrant, and weird while also being poignant, and stylish, and funny — everything you could want for a PG-13 horror movie for kids.
"Wendell & Wild" is the most punk-rock Selick film yet. Kat Elliot (Lyric Ross) is a tough 13-year-old girl fresh out of juvenile detention. She suffered great tragedy in her childhood, which has hardened her; afraid to let anyone get close to her, she exudes a confident, aggressive energy to keep people away. This works...

In one of the best collaborations of all time, we’re getting a new film from the director of the incredible stop-motion animated Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas, this time starring Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael-Key as demon brothers in Wendell & Wild.
Peele just dropped a new trailer for the film, which is coming to Netflix.
This classic macabre art style is the signature of the legendary director Henry Selick, who hasn’t released a film since Coraline in 2009. I can’t believe it’s been over a decade since the release of Coraline, so the return of Henry Selick is very welcome indeed.

“Key and Peele” co-creators Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele reunite for leading voice roles in the new teaser for Netflix’s “Wendell & Wild.” The new stop-motion animated comedy horror film from Netflix is director Henry Selick’s first since 2009’s “Coraline.”
Based on Clay McLeod Chapman’s unpublished book of the same name, the film follows two demon brothers with scheming tendencies, Wendell and Wild, voiced by Key and Peele respectively, who enlist the help of a 13-year-old named Kat, voiced by Lyric Ross, to summon them back to the Land of the Living. Selick and Peele co-wrote the adapted screenplay.
In addition to Key, Peele and Ross, additional cast in the film include Angela Bassett, James Hong, Sam Zelaya, Tamara Smart, Seema Virdi, Ramona Young and Ving Rhames in supporting roles.
Selick is best known for his body of work in animated films, including “The Nightmare Before Christmas” in 1993 in addition to ‘Coraline.

Spooky season is upon us, and there's no better time to introduce the young ones to the thrill of cinematic scares. Thankfully, filmmaker Henry Selick -- the man behind some of the greatest eerie kids' movies in recent memory -- has a new film coming to Netflix that's sure to terrify the tots ... in the best of ways. Selick is the stop-motion maestro behind the creepy classics "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Coraline," and he's set to deliver a new Halloween release, "Wendell and Wild," premiering on Netflix next month. The film follows a pair of demons, Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Jordan Peele) as they wreak havoc on the human world after convincing a 13-year-old named Kat (Lyric Ross) to summon them there. With a script by Peele and Selick, it's certain to have plenty of thrills, chills, and laughs, but could it all be a bit too much for the kiddos?...

Stop-motion filmmaking auteur Henry Selick is back in action with his first feature since "Coraline" — the Netflix film "Wendell and Wild," based on the unpublished book he co-wrote with Clay McLeod Chapman. The man who gave us "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "James and the Giant Peach," and "Monkeybone" joined forces with maverick filmmaker Jordan Peele on the project, just before Peele became an Oscar-winner and changed the horror game forever with "Get Out."
"Wendell and Wild" is about an angry young Black punk 13-year-old girl named Kat ("Ironheart" and "This is Us" star Lyric Ross) who crosses paths with the two titular demons who need her help escaping the hellish underworld and crossing over into the land of the living. Pairing up Selick with Peele seems like a no-brainer for a successful horror story, but before the success of "Get Out," the combination was still a risk. According to a...

"Everyone's got demons. My demons have names…" Netflix has revealed the first official teaser trailer for Wendell and Wild, the new stop-motion animation project from the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick (director of Nightmare Before Christmas & Coraline) and Jordan Peele. This will be premiering at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival this month, then launching on Netflix for viewing in October. Netflix has been trying to do some creative marketing for this film, kicking things off with a boombox song playlist almost a year ago. But this is the first real footage we've seen since then! With...
