Way back in 2018, the "Three Identical Strangers" documentary shocked viewers around the world as it told the story of three triplets who were separated at birth. The film chronicled the journey of Robert Shafran, Eddy Galland, and David Kellman as they discovered that they were identical triplets who were placed with different adoptive families as part of a scientific experiment. Now, their story is being turned into a limited TV series under Sony Pictures Television, with Ben Stiller in talks to star as all three brothers.

In a casting that raises several questions, Ben Stiller is in final talks to star in “Three Identical Strangers,” a limited series adaptation of the acclaimed documentary film, according to Variety.
The 2018 film, which was directed by Tim Wardle and won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Storytelling at the Sundance Film Festival, tells the story of Bobby Shafran, David Kellman, and Eddy Galland — three identical triplets who meet by chance as adults, and the revelation of the undisclosed scientific experiment that separated them by birth. Upon its release, “Three Identical Strangers” received positive reviews, and made the shortlist for the Oscars’ Best Documentary Feature category.
Stiller will play all three of the brothers as adults. What makes his casting unusual is that Galland died by suicide in 1995, when he was 34. Stiller is currently 57, nearly 25 years older than Galland was at time of death. In addition, the meat...

Three Identical Strangers is a fascinating look at nature vs nurture. The critically acclaimed series is available for streaming online but is it on Netflix? Unfortunately for Netflix subscribers, Hulu got the rights to the CNN film, which went viral last year. Siblings who were separated at birth discovered each other and learned the real truth behind their past. The documentary’s trailer teased one of the brothers arriving at college and learning about someone named Eddy Galland – a name unfamiliar to him at the time. He soon discovered that Eddy or Edward Galland was his twin. In a […]

Tonight on CNN, the incredible story of Bobby Shafran, David Kellman, and Eddy Galland is told in a documentary that will shock people unaware of their story. The three baby boys were all adopted at birth from an agency that specialized in placing Jewish children with Jewish families, and the abject malfeasance that the agency committed with regards to how they handled the three babies’ adoption is unimaginable. All of them were split up and divvied out to families who did not know their adoptive child had a sibling. Who were the triplets? Bobby Shafran, David Kellman, and Eddy Galland […]

“What the three of us had for literally a decade … was an unbelievable amount of joy and happiness,” said Robert Shafran, one of the subjects of the documentary “Three Identical Strangers,” “but there was also tragedy and there was also this whole sinister thing behind it.” He joined director Tim Wardle for a special Hanukkah dinner and Q&A at Sammy’s Roumanian Steakhouse in New York City to discuss the heartwarming, but also unsettling true story behind their film. Watch them above.

Their remarkable reunion made them media sensations during the 1980s, but an uncomfortable question lingered for each of their families: why were the three siblings secretly separated from each other as infants and placed with different adoptive families? The new documentary Three Identical Strangers tells the story of triplets separated at birth. A reunion of three identical brothers who had no idea the others existed would be powerful stuff all on its own, but there's way more to the story. According to USA Today, director Tim Wardle wants audiences to watch his documentary with as little knowledge about the Stranger Things-esque circumstances surrounding the triplets' separation as possible, but some parts of this story are just too fascinating not to share.
According to Wardle's interview with USA Today, the story began when Robert Shafran attended his first day of community college in 1980. Shafran couldn't go anywhere on campus without someone calling him Eddy. Ultimately, Shafran contacted Eddy Galland, and together the brothers realized they were both adopted and shared the same birthday. Neither set of their adoptive parents had any idea that the baby they had adopted also had a twin.

Chicago – The eternal debate of what affects human development more, our nature or our nurturing, opens up again in the wild story of “Three Identical Strangers,” a new documentary about triplets who were separated at birth, only to discover each other by chance and uncover some difficult truths about that separation.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
The structure of the film is an absorbing series of reveals by director Tim Wardle, with each new revelation so exceptional it serves to negate the story up to that point. It also has some uncomfortable examinations of identical triplets and twins who are separated, where in a sense they are the same because of DNA, but also have differences that are due to being raised in different families. There is also some sleight of hand in this part of the debate, as the filmmaker takes the us down one path, only to make us realize we never should have considered it.

In 1980, Robert Shafran drove from Westchester County to the Catskills. It was his first day of college – a community college, he modestly notes, but still, he was going. As he walked through the campus, the 19-year-old noticed how friendly everyone was ... excessively so, in some cases. Then people started calling him "Eddy" and welcoming him back, despite the fact he'd never attended a day of classes here before. Another student tells Robert that he's a dead ringer for his friend, Eddy Galland. Soon, they're driving to Long Island to meet him.

The director of one of the year’s most shocking documentaries talks about his extraordinary subjects, the film-making process, and the age-old question: nature or nurture?
“Ideas are my bread and butter,” says film-maker Tim Wardle. “But it’s hard to find ideas that make you want to get out of bed at 3am and go film somewhere.”
That, however, was not the case when a producer at Raw, the London-based production company where Wardle works, brought to his attention the story of Bobby Shafran, Eddy Galland and David Kellman, a set of identical triplets who knew nothing of one another until they were reunited by happenstance at age 19. That alone would make for a compelling documentary, but their story doesn’t end there.

Separated at birth, then reunited at age 19 in 1980, New York triplets Bobby Shafran, Eddy Galland, and David Kellman became the toast of the talk-show circuit after learning that they were long-lost brothers. Though their story received considerable exposure at the time — making them a welcome fixture at Studio 54, landing them a cameo with Madonna in “Desperately Seeking Susan,” and so on — the public tended to focus on the inspirational reunion rather than asking questions about the circumstances of their adoption.
Turns out, the brothers’ story is much bigger and more complicated than anyone imagined, and is only now being properly revealed, thanks to director Tim Wardle’s jaw-dropping decades-later doc “Three Identical Strangers.” A gripping, stranger-than-fiction account of a real-world medical conspiracy, the film begins as a human-interest story and builds to an impressive work of investigative journalism into how and why they were placed with the families who raised them.

Truth is, most definitely, stranger than fiction. Such is the case in the upcoming documentary “Three Identical Strangers.”
Imagine if you met a long-lost twin you never knew you had. Now, imagine if the two of you then met a long-lost triplet. The odds of this happening are staggeringly low, yet it happened for David Kellman, Robert Shafran, and Eddy Galland.

Here’s a wild plot for a film: Three identical triplets are separated at birth, adopted to different sets of parents and raised without awareness of one another. Then via pure chance they are brought together 19 years later. The twist is it’s a movie — but a documentary, not a narrative feature. It’s Tim Wardle’s Three Identical Strangers, which is bowing in the U.S. Documentary section of the Sundance Film Festival. The 1980 reunion of Bobby Shafran, Eddy Galland and…...
