Betty Gore died on June 13, 1980. Her church friend Candy Montgomery swung the axe that killed her. Those facts form the basis for two TV shows released in the past 12 months: HBO Max’s “Love & Death” starring Elizabeth Olsen and Hulu’s “Candy” with Jessica Biel. Both are set in Wylie, Texas before and after the attack; both try to understand the events that shook the town.
Yet very early on, “Love & Death” locks in the difference in their ambitions with a disclaimer: “This is a true story.” The five words at the top of every episode might be a subtle jab at other interpretations; it could be a device designed to keep HBO Max subscribers’ attention. It’s definitely a declaration of intent. Where “Candy” addresses the levels of rationalization of which people are capable, “Love & Death” ticks more boxes on the “true story” checklist.

FX‘s adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s celebrated novel Kindred has finally arrived on Hulu. But before you dive into all eight episodes, TV Insider caught up with the cast at New York Comic Con. The creative team and stars Sheria Irving, Sophina Brown, Mallori Johnson, Austin Smith, Micah Stock, Gayle Rankin, David Alexander Kaplan, and Branden Jacobs Jenkins stopped by TV Guide Magazine and TV Insider’s studio to talk all things Kindred. The series centers around Dana (Mallori Johnson), a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has uprooted her life of familial obligation and relocated to Los Angeles to claim a future that finally feels like her own. (Credit: Tina Rowden/FX) The catch? Before Dana can get settled into her new home, she finds herself pulled back and forth in time to a nineteenth-century plantation with which she and her family are surprisingly and intimately linked.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Season 4 of Stranger Things.] Stranger Things Season 4 left fans with a lot to ponder as they look ahead to the fifth and final season, especially in the wake of some devastating losses in the latest chapter’s final act. When it came to new fan-favorite Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), it was hard not to be charmed by the metal Dungeon Master who had a soft spot for Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo). Understandably, Dustin was distraught over Eddie’s untimely demise brought on by an encounter with bats in the Upside Down. In an emotional conversation with Eddie’s uncle following the loss, he tells the man that his nephew was a hero despite what the people of Hawkins want to believe. So, how will this loss impact Dustin moving forward, and could it impact his friendship with other fan-favorite Steve Harrington (Joe Keery)? (Credit: Tina Rowden/Netflix) “You can have more than...

New episodes will debut daily leading up to the final on Friday, May 13. “Candy Montgomery is a 1980 housewife and mother who did everything right — good husband (Timothy Simons), two kids, nice house, even the careful planning and execution of transgressions — but when the pressure of conformity builds within her, her actions scream for just a bit of freedom. With deadly results,” reads the show’s description. Tina Rowden/Hulu “Prior to June 13, did you like Betty Gore?” Candy is asked on trial in the first-look trailer. “I had no angry feelings towards her, if that’s what the question is,” she responds. When Stranger Things returns to Netflix for its second season on October 27th, we'll see many familiar faces and some new ones as well, and a fresh set of photos revealed by EW feature a little of both, including Sean Astin and Dacre Montgomery. Netflix has also made a faux trailer that reimagines season 1 of Stranger Things as an ’80s romance between Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve.
Season 2 synopsis: "It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived."
Stranger Things Season 2 premieres on October 27th on Netflix. Although Will may be back at home after being missing (and hunted) for most of the first season, things are far from back to normal for everyone who was affected by his disappearance.
