Lawmen wrapped its first season on Paramount+ earlier this month and told the story of the legendary Bass Reeves. The plan is to move on to a new historical lawman for each season of the anthology series, but series creator Chad Feehan hopes to tell more of Reeves' story.
Starring David Oyelowo, Lauren E. Banks, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Demi Singleton, Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Grantham Coleman, and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley, the season follows the origins of Reeves, following his journey from slave to the legendary lawman who inspired the story of the Lone Ranger.

Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode six begins with Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo) forced into spending time with Esau Pierce (Barry Pepper), who’s now a Ranger. Esau won’t promise prisoner Jackson Cole will get a fair trial; instead, he insists he’ll get what he deserves.
However, Bass has no choice but to hand over Jackson and allow Esau to take over custody.
Bass and Billy (Forrest Goodluck) make a pitstop at Sara Jumper’s place, but there’s something off. (Bass stayed with Sara when he escaped and was with her son when Esau shot him.) Billy notes that it doesn’t smell right, and after discovering the house is empty, Bass sends Billy off on his own – promising to catch up.

Exclusive: Lawmen: Bass Reeves locked down a new record for Paramount+.
The anthology series — which is produced by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios — is now the steamer’s most-watched series premiere globally this year.
The first two episodes amassed a collective 7.5M viewers across the world in the first 7 days across Paramount+ and broadcast sampling run on CBS, according to Paramount Global.
That spells more than double the 3.55M viewers that tuned in live + same-day, for the back-to-back broadcast premiere on CBS, Nielsen reported. After debuting on Paramount+ on November 5, the two episodes received a broadcast run on November 12, following an episode of Yellowstone.

Ending the year in signs is the hilarious, adventurous, sharp-tongued era of Sagittarius.
There’s truly nothing like them. They are quirky, mysterious and full of life. While they naturally grab the attention in the room, they feel most comfortable when they’re in their lonesome.
Sagittarius is the jack-of-trades sign; the sign that takes up space in every all industries — whether they be an actor, comedian or a bus driver — their versatility allows them to do it all. And that flexibility helps fuel their “I’ll try anything once” mindset. To them, what is life if you’re not living it to your fullest? The only thing you have to beware of is their slick mouth. Between Sagittarius, Virgo and Aries it’s hard to tell which sign is more brutally honest. Truly, to know Sagittarius is to love them. And if you don’t love…it doesn’t...

David Oyelowo as Bass Reeves and Mo Brings Plenty as Minco Dodge in ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ episode 4 (Photo Credit: Lauren Smith / Paramount+)
Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode four kicks off with an unusual scene. Bass (David Oyelowo) sings while shooting a hole through a hat. He’s wearing tattered clothing, and it’s quickly obvious this is part of a carefully planned disguise.
The reason? Reeves needs to appear nonthreatening when he arrives at a woman’s door. Although initially leery of this stranger’s appearance, the woman – Widow Dolliver (Dale Dickey) – lowers her rifle and invites him inside, impressed that he can quote the Bible.
Her adult children, Wiley and Darrell, show up at dinner time and get into a fistfight…not with Bass, but amongst themselves. Widow Dolliver asks Bass’ help in moving them into the bedroom, all the while fretting about the sleepless nights these ne’er-do-wells have cost her.

The creator of Lawmen: Bass Reeves is setting the record straight about whether the show is a spinoff of 1883.
When the show was initially ordered, it was billed by Paramount+ as a spinoff of the first Yellowstone prequel.
Chad Feehan, the creator and showrunner of the highly-anticipated new drama, is opening up about what changed to TV Line.
Making the show a spinoff of the critically-lauded 1883 "was an idea we briefly talked about," Feehan explained to the outlet.
"But for me, once I learned some of the things I didn't know about Bass' life, and decided where we wanted to start the story and where we wanted to end the story, it preceded 1883," he added.
In a separate interview with TV Insider, Feehan said the idea to make it a spinoff was talked about before he was hired.

We rustled up the intel about Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the action-packed limited series looking at American frontiersman Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo). The first Black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi is the first subject in Taylor Sheridan’s anthology on iconic lawmen. Although it was originally tied to 1883, Bass Reeves is not connected to Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe. It is, however, set in the 1800s like the first Yellowstone spinoff. The series premieres on Sunday, November 5, on Paramount+. Oyelowo stars in and executive produces the series alongside co-stars Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid, Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, and Barry Pepper. Shea Whigham and Garrett Hedlund guest star, with Tony-winner Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, and more in recurring roles. Here’s what we scrounged up about Lawmen: Bass Reeves from the people behind the series. 1. Courage counts The tale begins with the enslaved Reeves forced to fight...

Taylor Sheridan’s “Lawman: Bass Reeves” is nearly upon us. And the first footage from the new series has arrived in the form of a very brief trailer (watch it above).
Originally conceived as a spin-off of Sheridan’s blockbuster “Yellowstone” spin-off “1883,” “Lawman: Bass Reeves” has turned into its own franchise of sorts with the official synopsis referring to it as an “anthology series,” with “future iterations that will follow other iconic lawmen and outlaws who have impacted history.”
David Oyelowo stars as Reeves (he also executive produces), who served as the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi and was the likely inspiration for The Lone Ranger. According to the official synopsis Reeves was “known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.
