When Game of Thrones wrapped up its run after eight seasons, it seemed it had ruined any chance of a spinoff due to the poor fan reaction to the final season.
House of the Dragon, a prequel charting the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty, premiered in 2022 and delivered plenty of fantasy drama to reignite interest in the franchise.
The Targaryen storyline is interesting because we didn’t meet many of them on the original series due to them being dead.
House of the Dragon Season 1 successfully established the conflicts between the Greens and the Blacks to prepare for the mother of all battles on House of the Dragon Season 2.
With new episodes fast approaching, it’s time to delve into everything we know about the next chapter.
Get all the details below.

In the world of Westeros, Fire & Blood isn’t an exact retelling of the events that went down in Targaryen history. With so many sources, there’s no single narrative that is entirely factual. This has provided space for speculation as to what really happened in certain situations. Many fans have wondered about the true nature between Jace and Cregan Stark, with some speculating they were more than just friends. Scroll down for a full breakdown of what we...

Combining George R.R. Martin’s expansive imagination with Warner Bros. Discovery’s equally expansive marketing budget has turned out to be one of pop culture’s great cheat codes.
HBO has announced the official release date for House of the Dragon season 2 and it’s done so in particularly grand fashion. That’s because the announcement was accompanied not just by one trailer but by two. In honor of the show’s plot about the Dance of the Dragons civil war fought between two Targaryen factions, HBO is inviting viewers to choose the trailer experience that most closely corresponds to their “side.”
First up is the “Green Trailer” for those who are inclined to support Aegon II’s (Tom Glynn-Carney) claim to the Iron Throne.
Then there is the “Black Trailer” for supporters of Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) on Dragonstone, Viserys I’s eldest daughter and the would-be first female monarch of the Seven Kingdoms.

House of the Dragon season two dropped dueling trailers Thursday, prompting fans to choose between the black trailer, focusing on Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), or the green one, which puts Alicent (Olivia Cooke) at the forefront.
Rhaenyra’s trailer focuses on her, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and their Dragonstone forces, while the green puts King Landing’s team of Alicent, Otto (Rhys Ifans) and her children — King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) — at the forefront. This season of the Emmy-nominated show will begin the Targaryen’s civil war, also known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The councils are at war. If you pledge your loyalty to the Black Council, you can watch the Black Trailer. If you are a supporter of the Green Council, you can view the Green Trailer. Or if you’re just in excited anticipation of the new season of the Game of Thrones series, you can watch them both. HBO has just released two trailers, by way of Deadline, that tell of the upcoming civil conflict for the control of The Iron Throne. In October of 2022, the first season of House of the Dragon left audiences with a sense of impending war as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen found herself laced with rage and coming to a decision to battle for the throne. The second season suffered some delay due to last year’s dual union strikes, but wait no more. The Green and Black trailers showcase this season’s story from the...

“House of the Dragon” is asking viewers to pick a side in Season 2: Rhaenyra’s black faction or Alicent’s green team?
HBO dropped two unique trailers Thursday for Season 2, which premieres on June 16. One trailer focuses on Rhaenrya, Prince Daemon and their forces on Dragonstone, and the other is centered on the King’s Landing team of Alicent, her father Otto and her children King Aegon and Prince Aemond. Taking place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will officially mark the start of the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
In the wake of the Season 1 finale, in which Aemond murders Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon, war is imminent in Westeros. The blacks and the greens are both gathering their forces, dragons and new allies to face off in a bloody, fiery battle to the death.

Apparently still hard at work on the sixth “Song of Ice and Fire” novel “The Winds of Winter,” George R.R. Martin took to his blog to recap his recent trip to London, which included meeting his book publisher, the team behind his Westeros-set stage adaptation and the writers of “House of the Dragon,” who screened the first two episodes of Season 2 for the “Game of Thrones” author.
“The highlight of the trip … had to be the sneak preview that [showrunner] Ryan [Condal] gave me of the first two episodes of ‘House of the Dragon,’ Season 2. HBO’s House of the Dragon season two teaser trailer opens with Otto Hightower admitting errors were made immediately following King Viserys’ death. The kingdom’s being torn apart by conflict between those who support the Greens and those who stand with the Blacks. With so many shows being delayed, House of the Dragon Season 2 is still on track for a summer 2024 launch on HBO.
It's nice to know when to expect the hit Game of Thrones spinoff's return because many shows are in the air at this stage.
HBO gave viewers their first close-up of the second chapter at the Ccxp fan event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday.
As expected, plenty of blood-filled encounters, dragons, and some vengeance are thrown in for good measure.

The strikes from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have had a substantial effect on the schedules for movie and TV projects. As studios clutch their extra small percentages and fawn over AI technology, the drawn-out strikes have delayed a number of shows’ upcoming seasons. George R.R. Martin stated to his fans that his contract with HBO has been suspended, and now it is being revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that season 2 of his spin-off from the popular Game of Thrones series, House of the Dragon, will be premiering some time early in the summer of next year.
HBO chief Casey Bloys made the announcement in a press event early on Thursday. Bloys explained that the show has indeed wrapped filming on its second season, and it is currently in post-production. “House of the Dragon” Season 2 will premiere in “early summer” 2024 on HBO, network chief Casey Bloys announced during a press event in New York on Thursday. At the media presentation, the first trailer for the second season screened exclusively for reporters, but details about the contents of the footage were kept under an embargo.
During a Q&a portion of the event, Bloys said he expects that “Game of Thrones” spinoff “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” will begin shooting next spring, pending the end of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Based on author George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” book “Fire & Blood,” “House of the Dragon” follows the Targaryen dynasty in the fictional continent of Westeros. It takes place nearly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and about 100 years after the Targaryens united the Seven Kingdoms.
The 10-episode first season of “House of the Dragon” aired Aug.

George R.R. Martin has confirmed the rumors are true:
House of the Dragon Season 2 is still in production despite the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Most TV shows have been grounded amid the dual strikes, but the HBO epic can continue filming due to the cast not being under contract with SAG-AFTRA for the lengthy shoot.
In a new update on his website, the author of the Game of Thrones novels revealed that work on the sophomore season is "half done."
"One of the few shows still shooting is House of the Dragon, as you may have read. That's true. I am told the second season is half done," he wrote.
"All of the scripts had been finished months before the WGA strike began."
"No writing has been done since, to the best of my knowledge."
Martin shed some light on why the series has been able to continue filming.

Filming on Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will continue in the U.K. despite the U.S. writers’ strike.
A source close to production tells Variety that scripts on the hit show have been done for some time, and that filming on the second season won’t be affected.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers ended contract talks with the Writers Guild of America on Monday night, hours before the contract expiration deadline. The WGA responded by calling for a strike to begin on Tuesday.
Under strike rules, WGA members working internationally must down tools on any project that falls within the union’s jurisdiction if there’s active writing work taking place. As such, a number of U.S. projects filming in the U.K. could be affected by the strike — it’s just a matter of how extensively such a disruption will impact the production overall.

Close viewers of HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon may have noticed a troubling trend with the House Velaryon of Driftmark. As season 1 of the prequel progressed, the ancient family with Valyrian roots (much like the Targaryens) seemed to be running low on potential heirs.
Lord Corlys Velaryon a.k.a. The Sea Snake (Steve Toussaint) is about as powerful as a Westerosi noble can be. Thanks to his fruitful voyages across The Narrow Sea, Corlys’s house is blessed with untold riches and influence. Yet, as we saw with his close call near the end of the season, Corlys can’t live forever. One day someone will have to succeed him as Lord of the Tides and sit atop the Driftwood Throne. The second season of “House of the Dragon” began filming in April 2023, with an expected premiere date of Summer 2024. The award-winning TV series is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood” and is set approximately 200 years before the events of parent series “Game of Thrones.” While the first season told the story of House Targaryen over the span of several decades and thus incorporated several time jumps, the second season will reportedly take place fully in one time period (which means no more confusing cast changes).
Returning series regulars from Season 1 include Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans. House of the Dragon actor Elliot Grihault has shared a touching message with his co-star Harry Collett after the dramatic finale.

In the hopes of recruiting allies and maintaining support for her claim to the throne, Rhaneyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) sends her son Lucerys Velaryon (Grihault) to Storm’s End with his dragon Arrax.
Rhaenyra urges him to act as a diplomat. When he arrives, however, something is amiss and he notices Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) is already there doing the bidding for his newly crowned brother.
Aemond has long been seeking revenge on Lucerys, who...
