Marketa Vondrousova and Barbora Strycova ended their US Open doubles campaign in heartbreaking circumstances in the round of 16 on Monday.
The Czech women's duo of Vondrousova and Strycova withdrew from their match against Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski after previously cruising through the first two rounds at the US Open without dropping a set.
However, Vondrousova was captured on the sidelines with an ice pack on her elbow and the injury was eventually enough to see the Czech doubles team withdraw from the match. Vondrousova appeared in distress as she was consoled by the 37-year-old Strycova, who is set to retire from tennis after the US Open elimination.
The Czech partners have been a team for a long time and have achieved plenty in the women's doubles category in recent years. In 2019, their best run came at the Australian Open when they reached the semi-finals, but were eventually defeated by Samantha Stosur and Zhang Shuai.

Held from July 31st to August 6th, the 2023 Prague Open is probably the most prestigious Wta tournament held in the Czech Republic, but this year also the most controversial.
As a Wta 250 tournament in the capital of the Czech Republic, the event managed to put together quite a solid entry list , but that started falling apart when the projected top seed Barbora Krejcikova withdrew from the tournament .
The tournament suffered yet another blow when the country prevented Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing , something that also happened in Poland only a week ago ahead of the 2023 Poland Open in Warsaw .
So the draw for the tournament had to be made without the third-highest-ranked Czech player in the Wta Rankings , but also without Russian and Belarusian players that wanted to compete in the Czech capital.
That means that the top seed for the tournament is Marie Bouzkova , who will play against...

It's been a nice year overall for the Czech, who has now tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend and coach, Jiri Vanek. The couple got married in her native Czech Republic, in Prague, in a private ceremony. There isn't much information about the ceremony other than Kvitova posting a photo of the couple on social media by adding yesterday's (22.7.) date.

The 2023 Prague Open promises to once again showcase the talent of one of the most successful countries in the history of the Wta Tour.
The Czech Republic has been one of the most successful countries in the Billie Jean King Cup over the years, winning 11 trophies and trailing only the United States with 18. In the past 12 years, the country won the competition six times, and it's not a surprise that it has many talented players that are featured on the entry list for the 2023 Prague Open.
Last year, Anett Kontaveit was the top seed in the tournament in Prague, however, the Estonian won't make an appearance in 2023 as she ended her career recently . Funnily, it was Marie Bouzkova who beat her in the last match. The Czech player is also the 2022 Prague Open champion, and she will defend her title in 2023.

The Kazakhstani is the third seed at Wimbledon this year, and she will start her journey against Shelby Rogers, but her preparation for the tournament has been less than ideal . But there may not be so much pressure put on her, as all eyes will be on the top seed, Iga Swiatek .

From June 19th to 25th, the grass-court season will continue at the 2023 Birmingham Classic and the draw is known already.
Last year, Beatriz Haddad Maia won the Wta 250 tournament in Birmingham, but this year, the Brazilian won't compete. Shortly after her Top 10 breakthrough , Haddad Maia picked up an injury and she was forced to withdraw from two grass-court tournaments, including the 2023 Birmingham Classic.
But her absence will give a chance to other players. The first-seeded Barbora Krejcikova will want to be one of them but the Czech player doesn't know a lot about her draw. In the first round, she'll play against one of the qualifiers, and her second-round opponent will be no different as it will be also one of the qualifiers.
Elina Svitolina will compete in Birmingham too after making the Roland Garros quarterfinals . The Ukrainian will play against a talented teenager from the Czech Republic, Linda Fruhvirtova...

Maria Sakkari lost already in her second match at the 2023 Italian Open when she fell to an inspired Marketa Vondrousova.
At the previous Wta 1000 event in Madrid, the Greek player lost in the semifinals and she wanted to follow up on that result also in Rome. However, after beating Barbora Strycova in the second round, another opponent from the Czech Republic proved to be too good for her.
Marketa Vondrousova is the 2019 Roland Garros finalist and also the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, but she's currently ranked only 70th in the Wta Rankings. However, she can not be underestimated and she showed it also at the 2023 Italian Open.
All started well for the Czech already in the first game, breaking her opponent and establishing a lead in the match. She kept that advantage throughout the set as she had two set points in the ninth game.
