Ed Sheeran, who is relatively mum about his private life, is going behind-the-music in his new Disney+ docuseries, touching on subjects like grief, mental health, love and loss.
“I never wanted to make a documentary that was [focused on the] sad pop star and feel sorry for [the] sad pop star,” Sheeran said Tuesday night at the New York City premiere of Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, which debuted Wednesday on Disney+ and follows the singer as he mourns the death of his best friend, supports his wife as she battles cancer while being pregnant and records his new album.
“What I think is really great about the documentary is the themes that it explores, everyone goes through. … Everyone goes through grief. Everyone goes through ups and downs of their mental health.”
“I know exactly what you mean, but the pop star went through some shit,” chimed in moderator and CBS This Morning host Gayle King.

Ed Sheeran shares a behind-the-scenes look at his private life with the Disney+ documentary series Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All. The four-part docuseries dives into Sheeran’s background and reveals details on some of his biggest hits as well as his personal influences.
“I’ve always been very guarded in my personal and private life; the only documentary I’ve ever made has been one that focused on my songwriting,” stated Sheeran. “Disney approached me to make a four-part documentary, and it felt like the right time to open the door and let people in. I hope people enjoy it.”
David Soutar directed the docuseries and Fulwell 73’s Ben Winston and Ben Turner served as executive producers.
“In this docuseries, we’re going to reveal a side of Ed Sheeran that fans have never seen before,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “Together with Fulwell 73, we’ve...

Ed Sheeran is opening up about his unseen journey of loss in a new four-part docuseries, “Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All.”
The series, which premieres May 3 on Disney+, centers on both the singer-songwriter’s unlikely rise to fame as well as the personal matters of love and loss that inspire his chart-topping music. “Everything in my life sort of got so much better once Cherry got into it,” the artist says of his wife in the trailer released Monday. “Now, I’ve got[ten] married, and I’m a dad who has two daughters.”
What Sheeran identifies as a “peak” quickly went downhill as Cherry faced health problems and his best friend Jamal Edwards, who the pop singer has previously credited with launching his career, passed away suddenly.
“You guys said you want to make a documentary, and I went, ‘yeah, and it should be me in the studio...

“H…O…M…E….those letters are incredibly important. They are… the personification of home.”
There’s something about former boyband legend Matt Goss. It could be his enduring, striking looks, replete with that wisp of blonde hair and those piercing eyes we were so accustomed to seeing, staring out from newsagent shelves from the covers of Smash Hits or Just 17.
Or perhaps it’s his thoughtfulness, as exhibited in Joe Pearlman and David Soutar’s documentary about the reformation of 1980s hit factory, Bros.
In truth, it’s all of the above the makes Matt Goss so watchable. Particularly his astonishing turn of phrase, delivering unique metaphors (the directors would later refer to them as Matt-isms) with alarming regularity.
The co-directors join Goss in the Us, where he evidently likes to stare pensively across the Vegas skyline (at least when he’s not performing on stage at The Mirage). Meanwhile,...
