Jason George is embracing the time he has left with Station 19, despite his tough feelings about its surprising cancellation.
The actor tells The Hollywood Reporter about his mixed emotions as the ABC firefighter drama series signs off this month after seven seasons. George originated his role of Ben Warren in an episode of the sixth season of Grey’s Anatomy that aired in 2010 before spinoff show Station 19 launched in March of 2018.
Indeed, fans were stunned when news broke late last year that ABC would be ending the series after the current season. “It’s incredibly tough because it feels like we have so many more years in us,” George tells THR about Station 19 ending.
Still, the actor takes solace in knowing that his show’s team was able to prepare for the finale, which is not always the case for some series.

Now that we know that ABC’s Station 19 is ending with Season 7 — barring any sort of 11th-hour save — it’s time to prepare our goodbyes to Seattle’s finest firefighters. Well, most of them anyway. We have a feeling that we’ll be seeing Jason George’s Ben Warren again as Station 19 predecessor Grey’s Anatomy continues into Season 21 this fall. Ben is, after all, married to Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), one of two original Grey’s Anatomy characters still appearing on the ABC medical drama full-time. Wilson has already challenged herself to stay on Grey’s until “the very last episode, the very last day, the very last scene,” and Bailey and Ben’s relationship will surely stand the test of time. So we can count on Ben and Bailey sharing screen time on Grey’s Anatomy at least periodically in Season 21 and beyond. But might Jason George become a full-time Grey’s star again,...

“Station 19” is about to hit a huge milestone, but it’s bittersweet.
Just three days into production on Season 7 of the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, as plans for a celebratory 100th episode were beginning to develop, new showrunners Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack learned that the show had been canceled. Season 7 would be its last, tasking them with not only ushering the show into a new era, but also to a satisfying ending. They were not prepared.
“I was sitting on the floor in my underwear, writing,” Paige tells Variety. Clack adds, “I was on a panel in front of 100 people getting constant phone calls, trying to play it off. I didn’t hear what the actual news was until after the panel.”

TV fans are no strangers to the whims of network decisions. We've suffered numerous heartbreaks when a network chooses to axe a show, often without warning.
The WGA/AMPTP writer strikes of 2023 significantly affected the future of the series across all prime networks like CBS, Fox, NBC, and ABC. Plenty of shows have ended in the year since.
Many shows, like Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds, surprised loyal viewers. One recently canceled series that has experienced major upheaval is the Grey's Anatomy firefighting spinoff Station 19.
Station 19 is currently on its seventh -- and final -- season, much to viewers' dismay.
Since the announcement in late 2023, fans everywhere have risen in protest. We've seen billboards, ads, social media posts, and more, all with the hashtag #SaveStation19.
Is Now the Right Time to Cancel Station 19?
Station 19 is the brainchild of Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey's Anatomy.

Station 19's showrunner addressed what the future holds for Ben Warren (played by Jason Winston George) as many believe he could die in an upcoming episode.
Originally starting as a surgical resident in Grey's Anatomy, Ben Warren quickly became an important member of the team as a firefighter at the Station 19 firehouse.
Receiving a medal for bravery at the end of Season 6, Warren has seen more than his fair share of danger and adversity in his time on the show, which is now confirmed to end after Season 7.

It was an understated hour of Grey's Anatomy.
A lot of fun little tidbits happened during Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 2, but not enough to move the plot forward outside of the Simone and Lucas development.
But overall, the hour was purely just vibing as we coast into bigger storylines.
More than anything, we got to spend some quality time with the interns and revel in their fun antics that continue to capture the nostalgic feel of Grey's from yesteryear.
The interns are genuinely a fun bunch to watch, and this hour allowed us to do so unimpeded for the most part.
We got to see Bailey in her true form as the mentor and leader of the interns.
But as the hour progressed, it was evident that sometimes, she had to adapt to a different herd of young doctors and the times.
My class didn't screw up like yours did!

An undeniable observation about this series is that it has so much heart.
Various aspects of Station 19 Season 7 Episode 2 reminded us that we're operating with a shortened season, and the writers are working to cram as much into it as possible, which can lead to some pacing issues.
But at its essence, the series and the characters may benefit from this. And the emotional journey the series can take viewers on within an hour remains intact.
Essentially, it speaks to life itself. No matter what's happening around us, life has a funny way of still going on, and time waits for no mortal.
The trick to pulling this off is managing to do so organically, where the development of the character and the respective plot's payoff is enough to wave away how rapidly things are coming into play.
This hour had that on multiple fronts as we moved very quickly with the Marina adoption plot,...

Firefighters and their personal lives will remain a big topic for ABC during the 2023-24 TV season.
The network has officially picked up Station 19 for Season 7 with new showrunners.
In live + same-day results, Station 19 is ABC's most-watched series, with 3.9 million viewers.
The numbers surge when delayed viewing is factored in.
A renewal was never in doubt for the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, but ABC has been staggering out pickups for next season so far.
The series has been a strong performer, and ABC will likely keep the show on Thursdays next season with Grey's Anatomy.
There continues to be some connective tissue between the two shows, which has probably helped both series.

“I’m so grateful to Disney and ABC for the early pickup for season six of ‘Station 19!’ It’s a tribute to the incredible work of our talented cast, crew, writers and creative team,...

A tragic twist on Station 19 pushed a Grey's Anatomy doctor toward a difficult decision. The latest crossover event for the two ABC drama series saw the firefighters dealing with a gas explosion on Thursday, Nov. 11. Dean Miller (Okieriete Onaodowan) saved the life of Vic Hughes (Barrett Doss) after she was struck by a live power line, but Dean himself was later killed by an explosion in a different house. This tragic turn of events left Ben Warren (Jason George) grappling with the fact that he had previously promised Dean he would raise daughter Pru if anything were to happen. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) was shocked by the agreement but appeared to come around...

Grey's Anatomy may be over for the season, but some of its most beloved characters are headed to Station 19 for its own season finale.
ABC announced today that Ellen Pompeo, Caterina Scorsone, Kim Raver, and Stefania Spanmpinato will appear on Station 19 Season 3 Episode 16 -- titled "Ticking Like a Bomb."
"Andy becomes painfully suspicious of the circumstances surrounding her mother’s death and goes to her aunt looking for answers," reads the official logline.
"Meanwhile, the members of the crew work to evacuate a doctor from Pac-North hospital and find themselves in a life-threatening situation; and Sullivan undergoes surgery for his chronic leg pain."
There's a good chance the reason for the Grey's cast members being a part of the episode is in the aftermath of the drama at Pac-North, which served as the hospital several Grey Sloan alum worked at early on Grey's Anatomy Season 16.

Station 19 is on the move.
Deadline is reporting that the hit firefighter drama is moving back to the 9 pm slot from April 16.
The decision after it was announced that Grey's Anatomy would wrap its 16th season with several episodes unproduced.
This is due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic which has brought Hollywood, and beyond, to a grinding halt.
Station 19 Season 3 completed production ahead of the shutdown and will remain on the air through to its season finale on May 14.
The move is a surprising one, especially when you consider that the Grey's spinoff is on track for its highest-rated and most-watched season to date in the 8 pm slot.
However, it does make a little bit of sense.
With Grey's concluding tonight, there will be nothing strong in the 9 pm slot to lead into the final season of How to Get Away with Murder.
The latter was at season...

The fight is on to diagnose and save Richard on Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 20, airing tonight at 9/8c on ABC.
While Maggie, Meredith, and Amelia work together to run tests on Weber, Maggie is checking out the headlines following Richard's claim that he had a cure for cancer.
The internet is ablaze with memes of Richard, as well as negative headlines that make him sound like a conspiracy theorist, according to a new sneak peek of the episode.
"Famous surgeon implodes at medical conference," says one headline, while another says:
"Medical meltdown of the year."
"It doesn't stop," a defeated Maggie says.
Unfortunately, it also looks like the nightmare will have much more far-reaching consequences.
"Catherine's on the phone with the foundation publicist to try to scrub it all from the internet which isn't really possible," says Meredith chiming in.
Catherine probably feels guilty because she thought Richard was drunk at the event,...

Are we about to say goodbye to Richard Weber?
Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 20 picks up in the immediate aftermath of the character being rushed to the hospital with a suspected stroke.
If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you know Grey's has said goodbye to several stars throughout its 15-year-run, but we don't even know if James Pickens Jr. is saying goodbye to the series.
Back when Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd was killed off, the actor exiting the show was not announced in advance so fans were gobsmacked when the emotional death played out.
What we do know about "Sing It Again" is that everyone will band together with one common goal: Save Richard.
This includes Catherine who initially thought her estranged husband had turned back to alcohol when he claimed to have a cure for cancer at an event.
Their relationship has been on thin ice for months, but...

There's been a heart-wrenching announcement for the Grey's Anatomy hive: Justin Chambers, aka Alex Karev, officially shared a statement about his departure from the show on Jan. 10. From what we know so far, Chambers already appeared in his final episode on Nov. 14, in which Alex defends Meredith's honor as her medical license is on the line. The last we hear from Alex, he's home helping out his mom in typical Alex fashion. With this huge news dropping, we seriously have so many questions about his storyline, especially if, by some miracle, he'll return for the season 16 finale.
Why Alex's Departure Will Be Huge
While we don't know if Chambers left on good terms, it would make sense plot-wise if he returned, at the very least, for the season 16 finale. His role is intrinsically linked to that of many other characters. Look at his relationships with his wife, Jo; his...
