The New Amsterdam universe could expand; this time, a familiar face will be at the wheel.
Deadline reports that a sequel series has entered development at NBC, a year after the original series wrapped its five-season run.
The project would center on Dr. Max Goodwin’s (Ryan Eggold) daughter, Luna Goodwin.
At the time of the series finale in January 2023, there were no plans to keep the franchise alive. Still, the episode did introduce a tag for a sequel in the form of an adult Luna (Molly Griggs) taking over her father’s role as Medical Director of New Amsterdam Hospital.
Now, it seems NBC is interested in making New Amsterdam: Tomorrow a reality. The key difference from the original is that it would be set in the future.

You know how the end of New Amsterdam seemed to be setting up another chapter in the series? Well, we might get to see that. David Schulner, who created the medical drama (and served as executive producer and showrunner), is working on a sequel series, with the potential title of New Amsterdam: Tomorrow, at NBC, according to Deadline. It would be set 30 years after New Amsterdam and follow Max’s (Ryan Eggold) daughter, Luna (played by Molly Griggs in the series finale) as she takes on the same job her father did: Medical Director at New Amsterdam. It’s what we saw in the flashforwards in the series finale—there were quite a few callbacks to the pilot to hint at her identity, including a speech in an auditorium and asking “How can I help?”—but there’s no word yet on whether Griggs would play Luna in this potential series,...

Giancarlo Esposito is taking over the male lead in Netflix’s Shondaland drama The Residence following the passing of Andre Braugher.
Braugher, who died Dec. 11 following a battle with lung cancer, was tapped last February to be the male lead on Netflix’s Shonda Rhimes drama The Residence, starring opposite Uzo Aduba. The White House murder-mystery started production before shutting down amid Hollywood’s dual strikes. Braugher had already completed filming a lot of his scenes on the series, which was scheduled to resume filming last month January. Esposito’s casting means the scenes Braugher had filmed will be reshot on the drama from showrunner Paul William Davies (Scandal), which has continued production amid the recasting.
Here’s the official logline for The Residence, per Netflix: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs...

The entertainment world was recently dealt a heartbreaking blow with beloved actor Andre Braugher passing away unexpectedly at the age of 61. Braugher was best known for his roles on shows like "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." Before the actor's passing, he had been working on a new TV show for Netflix called "The Residence." It will now serve as the actor's final project. Much remains in flux, but we know quite a bit about the show already.
The eight-episode series hails from Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, with Paul William Davies on board as the writer and showrunner. It is based on Kate Andersen Brower's book "The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House," but interestingly, it's said that the show will only use the book as a jumping-off point, so it won't be an outright adaptation. The late Andre Braugher’s now-final project — Shondaland’s comedic murder-mystery The Residence — remains unfinished thanks to a shut down sparked by the WGA strike months prior. Although the series had been gearing up to resume production, Braugher’s death Tuesday raises significant questions for the Netflix series’ future.
Four episodes of its eight-episode order were shot during the early days of the writers strike more than six months ago, Deadline reports. While the series is slated to resume shooting Jan. 2, it’s unclear if that date will stick, as producers must now figure out how to proceed without the actor.

Shut down by the WGA strike months ago, Shondaland’s murder-mystery drama The Residence had been gearing up to resume production. On Tuesday, the Netflix series lost one of its stars, Emmy winner André Braugher, who died at the age of 61 after a brief illness.
The Residence, from executive producer/showrunner Paul William Davies and executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, shot four episodes of its eight-episode order before suspending filming during the early days of the writers strike more than six months ago.
The series had been slated to return to production Jan. 2, sources tell Deadline. In light of Braugher’s untimely death, it is unclear whether The Residence will keep that date or give the cast and crew more time to mourn while Netflix the producers mull how to continue without the actor. In July, HBO series “Insecure,” “Ballers,” “Band of Brothers,” “Six Feet Under,” and “The Pacific” (and “True Detective” outside of the U.S.) copy-and-pasted their way onto Netflix. The first-of-its-kind move between the longtime rivals was a success, HBO chief Casey Bloys said at Wednesday’s Code Conference — and not just in terms of a licensing fee.
“What’s been nice about it is, without doing a thing on Max, the viewership of… ‘Ballers’ and ‘Insecure’ [on Max] really saw a spike when it was on Netflix,” Bloys said. “You’re introducing it to more people, it’s marketing.”
It’s becoming a more and more common marketing practice. Rerun episodes of USA Network series “Suits” were on Peacock for years, and they did fine — for USA Network reruns on Peacock. But when NBCUniversal licensed the nine-season (2011-2019) legal dramedy to Netflix in June, the bar (pun intended) was raised.

The old Leo Tolstoy adage illuminates that "each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." In the span of its four seasons, "Succession" focused on a particular miserable American clan, the obscenely wealthy and influential Roys.
The show charted the schemes and (self-)sabotages of the Roy children as they warred over their potential inheritance: CEO control of the Waystar RoyCo media company, run by their (now-late) patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). Across toxic intrigue and backstabbing, the three kids, Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv (Sarah Snook), fought tooth and nail for the throne.
In the wake of Logan's death and the series finale, the Roy family tree is still not doing all right. There are tantalizing questions about the third-generation Roys, the grandkids, who are more vulnerable under their family dysfunction and the world order that their Roy forebearers enabled. While the finale does not...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Tuesday’s “Prodigal Son”)
“Prodigal Son” gave Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) everything he thought he wanted with this week’s episode, which saw him fall down an elevator shaft and into a concussion-induced dream world. That might sound bad, but for the better part of the episode, Malcolm’s alternate reality features his father, Martin (Michael Sheen), mother, Jessica (Bellamy Young) and little sister, Ainsley (Halston Sage) all happy and healthy, with nobody in prison for being a serial killer. On top of housing a family of perfect Whitlys, this world is also one in which Malcolm and Dani (Aurora Perrineau) are both working for the NYPD — and dating.
“For Malcolm, obviously it has to do with Dani, but I think it represents to him just wanting to have a partner in his life and wanting to have a relationship that’s functional, because everyone wants that,...

Molly Griggs’ career is a prime example. After starting her career with an appearance in a short film in 2013, things didn’t really start taking off for Molly until 2019. That year, she found herself with back to back opportunities including her big break in the series Prodigal Son. In 2020, she kept the momentum going when she appeared in the Apple TV series Servant. Not only is Servant back for another
