Barefoot Contessa host Ina Garten has been opening up about her marriage of over 55 years to former government official Jeffrey Garten, including the reason they never had children. Appearing on the latest episode of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ podcast, Wiser Than Me, the Food Network star revealed it was her decision not to have kids, noting that Jeffrey “would have been a great parent.” “I think Jeffrey would have been a great parent. He would have really loved having children,” Ina told the Seinfeld star, per People. “But he wanted me to be happy, and it was okay with him.” Ina added, “I had no interest in having children. None. I just had a terrible childhood, and it was nothing I wanted to recreate.” The famous cook and author said she doesn’t have any regrets about her choice, but said that seeing her friends with their children, “I understand what it could be.

The Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten announced her forthcoming memoir’s release date in perhaps the most her way possible. No, not with a giant cocktail how-to or a roast chicken. Rather, something akin to her relaxed take on cooking and entertaining. The 76-year-old author and longtime cooking show host simply updated her social media bio with the date.
Garten’s memoir is set to debut in October 2024
Mark the calendar, Barefoot Contessa fans. Garten, who has been a frequent face on Food Network since 2002, finally unveiled when her memoir is hitting shelves.
In early February 2024, Garten quietly updated her Instagram bio to include her memoir’s release date, writing: “Memoir coming out October 1st 2024.”
So, instead of a Barefoot Contessa cookbook hitting shelves in the fall as has been known to happen since the late ‘90s, Garten has a different type of book on offer. Through her memoir, she’s...

The 75-year-old Food Network chef shared in a new interview with BBC News presenter Katty Kay why she never wanted to have kids.
“Did you know you couldn’t do what you wanted to do if you’d had them?” Katty asked.
“I think it’s much harder,” Ina responded. “[But] I don’t think that’s why I made the decision.”

The story of how Food Network host Ina Garten became known as the Barefoot Contessa is a funny one: Garten’s Barefoot Contessa TV show is named after her Barefoot Contessa cookbooks, which in turn were named after her Barefoot Contessa food stores. But Garten, now 74, didn’t come up with the name; the first store’s original owner did. “She had been called that when she was a kid, after the movie with Ava Gardner [1954’s The Barefoot Contessa],” Garten told MSNBC’s Willie Guest in September, per Insider. “The family used to call her the Barefoot Contessa; it was her nickname.” And, as you’ll see below, Garten initially wanted to rename her store. With Food Network’s Barefoot Contessa turning 20 — having premiered on November 20, 2002, with the episode “The Mediterranean Feast” — we’re rounding up fun facts about Garten’s path to cooking-show fame. She met husband Jeffrey Garten when she was...

“Late Night With Seth Meyers” took a day trip Wednesday night, which featured the drunk adventures of host Seth Meyers and his friend Ina Garten aka “The Barefoot Contessa.”
Meyers took the Food Network star and famous Hamptons resident to the Corner Bistro in Manhattan to spend an afternoon sipping cocktails. Ok, more than just sipping. They even concocted a few of their own — though Ina’s turned out much prettier (and probably tastier) than Seth’s.
When they weren’t drinking, which is really what they do throughout the majority of the nearly 10-minute segment, they were taste testing fast food sauces vs. Garten’s own gourmet recipes, challenging her ability to match bare feet to the celebrities they belong to, and doing “chef-pressions” of her famous co-workers like Gordon Ramsay and Emeril Lagasse.

Ina Garten married her husband Jeffrey on December 22, 1968, when she was 20 and he was 22.
“It was a perfect day for a wedding,” Garten tells People exclusively in this week’s issue, on newsstands now. The ceremony took place at her parents’ house — which she describes as “a very contemporary rock cliff in the woods in Connecticut” — and it included a magical winter surprise.
“Right in the middle of the ceremony, it started to snow. It was beautiful and romantic, but by the end of the party, the poor guys parking cars had to dig everyone out!” she recalls.

Look out Jeffrey Garten — Stephen Colbert is taking your spot!
The Late Show host seems to have a lot of love for Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten (who doesn’t?) and he’s been making it known with hilarious messages targeted at her on Twitter.
Colbert, 52, first tweeted at Garten on March 13, writing, “Hey @inagarten, saw you baked elephant ears. Thought we had plans? Had to make them alone. (easy & delicious, thanks for the recipe!).”
But he didn’t stop there. He then posted: “I’m really enjoying my copy of @inagarten’s “Cooking for Jeffrey,” but noticed there’s still...

Ina Garten appears to live the quiet, beach-side life we all dream of having. In reality, though, her unconventional path to success (she started out as a nuclear budget analyst in the White House, Fyi) was built on incredibly hard work, a vigilant passion for cooking, and the support of her beloved husband, Jeffrey.
As part of the promotional tour for her latest cookbook, Cooking for Jeffrey — casually the top-selling cookbook of 2016, even though it only came out in October — I sat down with the Barefoot Contessa for an on-stage interview at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theater.

When it came to developing recipes for her new cookbook, Ina Garten obviously had her husband, Jeffrey, in mind — it is called Cooking for Jeffrey, after all.
“I tried to think of things that he would particularly like,” says Garten, who is featured in this week’s issue of People, on newsstands now. Since his favorite food is “all kinds of roast chicken,” she gave her tried and true recipe an update, surrounding it with simple roasted radishes.
