Bacall Michaels is a production designer, director and producer, jumping between the platforms of film and fully immersive worlds. Her work focuses on heightened environments for all genres. She is a pioneer, pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the world of a film and the real world itself.
Immediately upon entering Hollywood, she was assigned to multiple feature films and series development. Bacall's debut into the industry as Production Designer was the unreleased sci-fi "Spectrum" (2017-18) a $4.5mil feature film with Emmy-award winning Art Director Evan Webber in Toronto and producer Sean Cushing of Cantina Creative ("Avengers", "Avatar", "Guardians of the Galaxy").
Bacall's latest cinematic release is "Signs of Love" starring Hopper Penn, Dylan Penn, Rosanna Arquette and Zoe Bleu Arquette. It won the Corbucci Award at Rome Film Festival.
Bacall's mentors over the years include Oscar and BAFTA award-winning filmmakers and top agents in Hollywood. These relationships were not only earned due to her unique, innovative skill sets, but her work on "Spectrum".
She is is currently attached to the productions: "Tommy Taffy" (Larry Smith DoP), "Subterfuge" (Christian de Gallagos), "M" (George Parra producing), "Nevermore" (Director Theodore Lodato), and "Co-Pilot" (Director Rosanna Arquette, Executive Producer Cassian Elwes).
Bacall has the support of leading art department crews worldwide, which include her art director, Emmy-winner Evan Webber ("A Shape of Water", "Handmaid's Tale", "Avatar II") and her concept designer Cade Featherstone ("The Favourite", "Fantastic Beasts").
Throughout the years, Bacall has become one of few whom specialise in the niche interposing design, art and STEM. Bacall is a recognised futurist, respected within these communities for her advocacy to incorporate more innovation into the everyday. Bacall graduated from the prestigious Central St Martins with a BA(hons) in Design & Interaction and as a Future Club member.
With her entrepreneurial drive, Bacall has created numerous business ventures. Before she worked in film, Bacall specialised in innovation design for lifestyle and fashion development/marketing. She was the Creative Director and Founder of "DEFIANT Magazine" its made-to-order e-commerce and her agency "Defiant Laboratory".
Bacall has made it her priority to learn about all aspects of production, in order to understand every element of a project she directs, no matter the theme. She is able to quickly adapt to any situation, from talking to scientists about bioengineering, to collaborating with manufacturers about materials development and drawing draughts for construction.
For Defiant Laboratory, Bacall handled the development & marketing of feature films, including interactive architecture, events and product design. Bacall believes film is the ultimate platform, to impact and innovate lives. With DEFIANT Laboratory, "DEFIANT" magazine and Hollywood, Bacall was determined to push society forward by "making sci-fi a reality".
With each upcoming project, Bacall aims to execute the impossible. From creating interactive, cinematic worlds as a production designer, to producing and developing fiction that's never been seen before.
