The Great British Bake Off comes to an end this week (sob, sniff), and while we love all three of the finalists, there's one who stands out (and who you DS readers have picked as your winner): Nadiya Hussain. Here's why we're hoping she becomes the latest Victoria sponge victor:
1. Her facial expressions
Have we mentioned enough how much we love Nadiya's face? More malleable than dough, she squints and glares and giggles and squirms her way through the show and it's utterly endearing.
2. She's proved something to herself - and the country
"I was a bit nervous that perhaps people would look at me, a Muslim in a headscarf, and wonder if I could bake," Nadiya has said. "I hope that week by week people have realised that I can bake – and just because I'm not a stereotypical British person, it doesn't mean that I am not into bunting,...

The Great British Bake Off is back in just one week (a week!) and to say we're excited would be an understatement. And it's not just because of Mary and Paul. And it's not just because of Mel & Sue. And it's not just because it gives us something of an excuse to eat a whole tent-load of cake.
We love all that - and we love that Gbbo is a gentler, softer reality show. But that doesn't mean it's not without its scandals - and let's be honest, we all secretly love being hysterical about a primetime series about competitive baking, don't we? So we've rounded up six of the best Bake Off brouhahas...

The Great British Bake Off's Ruby Tandoh has just come out on Twitter - and joked that it was finally putting those Paul Hollywood rumours to bed.
The food writer - who appeared on The Great British Bake Off in 2013 - was often the subject of critical comments about her relationship with judge Hollywood on the show.
She took to Twitter earlier today to reveal that she has opened up to her family about her sexuality, posting a link to Diana Ross's 'I'm Coming Out' music video and adding: "me to my parents today. feeling lucky and joyful and f r e e. over and Out."
Tandoh added: "& to all the bros who hate social media, who pit it against 'real life' - I never would've had courage to be me w/out twitter's queer queens."
The baker couldn't resist a little jibe at all those who had...

Former Great British Bake Off contestant Jordan Cox has criticised the show's team for distracting the bakers when they are cooking.
Following the drama surrounding Iain Watters and Diana Beard's respective exits from the BBC One competition, Cox - who himself exited in week three - told the Nottingham Post that the contestants are a "tight-knit group".
Discussing the environment within the tent, Cox explained: "I know that for the four hours they were in there, they will have been bombarded with constant questions.
"They are right up in your face all the time and will be asking you endless questions. It's not just Mel and Sue, like you see on the TV. Iain got criticised, but he would rather have put up nothing than something that's not up to scratch."
Cox added: "Everything takes a little longer with the camera crew in the tent. It can feel like a...

Ofcom has decided not to investigate complaints relating to this week's controversial episode of The Great British Bake Off.
A total of 13 viewers complained to the watchdog about the alleged sabotage of Iain Watters's Baked Alaska on Wednesday's (August 27) episode, while 811 people complained directly to the BBC.
However, Ofcom has now said: "Having assessed viewers' complaints received to date, they do not raise issues warranting further investigation under Ofcom's rules."
Watters was eliminated after binning his Showstopper, a decision criticised by judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry. Unhappy viewers hit back, arguing that fellow baker Diana Beard had been responsible as she had removed Iain's ice cream from the freezer.
The BBC has responded to the sabotage claims, saying that Beard's actions were "in no way responsible for Iain's departure" as the ice cream was out of the freezer for less than a minute.
Berry has also responded to the...

Former Great British Bake Off finalist Ruby Tandoh has waded into the controversy about this week's episode of the BBC reality show, criticising the show's producers for their treatment of 69-year-old Diana Beard.
In Wednesday night's (August 27) episode, contestant Iain Watters was eliminated from the competition after he failed to serve up a Baked Alaska in the Showstopper round. Twitter users quickly blamed Beard for his exit, as the show's edit made it look like she had ruined his dish by removing it from the freezer before it was ready.

Great British Bake Off Diana has no regrets over Bingate
Despite calls for calm from host Sue Perkins and judge Paul Hollywood, #justiceforiain and #dirtyDiana trended on Twitter on Wednesday night and Beard has described the incident as a "stitch up" to make her look bad by the show's producers.

The Great British Bake Off contestants have reportedly been advised by the BBC not to become involved in "negative exchanges" online.
They have also been told not to use bad language on social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and to ignore bad comments.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the BBC has also said that the 12 amateur bakers should not "read, engage or focus" in relation to any comments on their performance.
A source added that contestants would be in "constant dialogue" with the show's producers, and would be able to have extra help to cope with online abuse if needed.
The advice comes as the fifth series of the baking show, which has now moved to BBC One, welcomes its youngest ever contestant - 17-year-old Martha Collison.
A BBC spokesman said that Love Productions - the company behind The Great British Bake Off, has complied fully with child safeguarding guidelines.
