(Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.)
The Movie: "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women"
Where You Can Stream It: Tubi, Kanopy, and Freevee
The Pitch: This hidden gem from 2017 is billed as the true story of the invention of Wonder Woman, and indeed, it is a partly fictionalized biographical film about William Moulton Marston (Luke Evans), who created the character. But this is about as far from a comic book movie as you can get. Instead, it's a tender love story, the kind that's scarcely told. It's not about two people who find each other, but three, and the fulfillment, exploration, and brave subversion that comes with their lifelong relationship.
William, a professor and psychologist, begins the film married to his research partner, Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall). Soon,...

Exclusive: Malcolm Gladwell and his podcast production company Pushkin Industries have boarded a BBC audio series that tells the story of Elon Musk.
Gladwell, who is behind podcasts such as Revisionist History and Broken Record, has teamed with the British public broadcaster to release Elon Musk: The Evening Rocket in the U.S. and Canada.
It’s an interesting deal given that the show, which comes from Harvard historian and New Yorker writer Jill Lepore, was originally produced for BBC Radio 4, one of the BBC’s flagship radio stations, but Pushkin will be making it available as a podcast in North America for the first time.
The series aims to pierces the cloud of puffery around Elon Musk, who recently once again surpassed Jeff Bezo to become the richest man in the world, to examine a new kind of dangerous and destructive capitalism advanced by techno-billionaires, which Lepore calls...

This holiday season, one of the few bright spots for families unable to go to theaters—and even those who did—was Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984. An ambitious and vibrantly colored celebration of heroism in all its forms, including those that don’t end in fistfights, it’s a superhero movie that’s won as many fans as detractors. But while basking in the new spectacle is well and good, it’s also worth considering how it came to be. For even in this HBO Max tentpole, one can still see how the feminist movement of the early 20th century is grafted into the very DNA of the Wonder Woman character, her origin, and even her most contentious iconography… something that rarely gets acknowledged in the broader comic fan community.

Harvard historian and New Yorker writer Jill Lepore’s latest book, These Truths: a History of the United States, is an epic, sweeping and often disquieting look at the nation’s past. The 800-page opus, starting in the 1500s and moving along briskly to Donald Trump, also serves as a liberal cri de coeur – an answer to conservative claims on the stewardship of our history, our founding principles and especially the Constitution.
Lepore, and Thomas Jefferson, argue that three central principals bind the American experiment: political equality, natural rights and popular sovereignty.

It’s been a grueling 11 months for Stacey Snider.
The 20th Century Fox Film chairman and CEO was just putting her imprint on the studio when Rupert Murdoch decided to sell the bulk of his media empire to Disney. That’s left Snider with the unenviable task of having to keep Fox running smoothly even as her employees brace for layoffs that could result in thousands of lost jobs.
Worse yet, Snider will be among those getting pink-slipped. Although several of her top lieutenants, including vice chairman Emma Watts, Fox 2000 chief Elizabeth Gabler and Fox Searchlight co-heads Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley, have gotten new jobs at Disney, Snider will not make the move. During a recent talk at her sleekly modern Beverly Hills home, she is clearly stung by being passed over by Disney. However, she’s focused on finding new opportunities to keep making movies, television shows and other forms of content.
