Severance is “Back to work.” Director and executive producer Ben Stiller took to Instagram this morning to confirm that the Apple TV+ drama series had returned to production after a months-long delay due to the Hollywood strikes.
Stiller’s Instagram post, captioned “Back to work,” features a black-and-white photo of star Adam Scott running through what appears to be a hallway at Lumon Industries.
Severance had paused production on Season 2 in May when the WGA went on strike, which was then followed by the SAG-AFTRA walkout. With both strikes long resolved, production is now back on course.
From creator and writer Dan Erickson and Stiller, Severance stars Scott as Mark Scout, who leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself...

Welcome back to Lumon.
“Severance” Season 2 has returned to production, which was delayed for months due to the Hollywood strikes.
Season 2 of the popular Apple TV+ thriller stopped shooting in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America first went on strike against the studios represented by the AMPTP. The writers strike ended on Sept. 26, but by that point, SAG-AFTRA was 74 days into a strike of its own. Now that SAG-AFTRA has also reached a deal with the studios, everyone in Hollywood is cleared to go back to work, and “Severance” is back on track.

“High Desert” is headed beyond the horizon at Apple TV+. In a video posted on Instagram Saturday morning, series star Patricia Arquette shared that the production had not received an order for a second season at the streamer.
“A lot of you have asked about ‘High Desert’ and if there was going to be a second season, so I just wanted to let you know that we just found out that we won’t be coming back,” Arquette opened. “That’s a sad bummer for all of us.”
Arquette extended her gratitude to the crew, writers and actors on the series. The post was accompanied with a text caption: “It stinks.”
“We just had a blast. I love Peggy and that punk rock world,” Arquette continued. “Thanks to you guys for watching. Can’t win them all. You know, it sucks but… tough.”
Representatives for Apple TV+ were not immediately available for comment.

When the creatives behind Apple TV+’s singular sci-fi drama Severance stopped by Comic-Con on Thursday, they offered little in the way of hints as to Season 2 story, honing in instead on the assorted challenges of bringing the breakout series to life.
The first challenge to grapple with—both on the page and on set—was one of tone. During the conversation moderated by actor Patton Oswalt, creator-writer Dan Erickson noted that as singularly strange as Severance did wind up being, the original pilot script was even “more acid trip-y”—featuring, for example, a pair of disembodied legs running down one of the show’s long white hallways. And it was elements like this that would eventually need to be pared back.
One major challenge, for Severance‘s actors, was to carefully calibrate their performances with tone in mind—grappling correctly, to start, with the world-building show’s strange dialogue.

The “Severance” team is hard at work writing Season 2 of the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ drama — so hard at work that they need to avoid fan theories in order to properly carry out the task of telling the Innies and Outies of the second season as they envision them.

In The Dark will end after its upcoming fourth season on the CW. Season 4 is slated to premiere June 6.
The drama series, from CBS Studios, Warner Bros. TV and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, was on the bubble, but had been boosted by streaming. In The Dark is written by Corinne Kingsbury and directed by Michael Showalter. It had debuted as a mid-season entry during the 2018–19 television season, and aired during the late spring/early summer in 2020. Its third season ended on October 6, 2021.
The series stars Perry Mattfeld as Murphy Mason, Brooke Markham as Jess Damon, Casey Deidrick as Max Parish, Keston John as Darnell James, Morgan Krantz as Felix Bell, Theodore Bhat as Josh and Matt Murray as Gene Clemens.
In the first three seasons, Murphy Mason (Mattfeld) had gone from a lazy receptionist to a drunken vigilante detective to a drug front proprietor, and then, a woman-on-the-run.

“You’ll feel like you never left,” reads the half-cheeky, half-sinister promotional teaser for the second season renewal of “Severance.” The news of a sophomore installment — announced by Apple TV+ Wednesday — comes days ahead of the sci-fi workplace thriller’s Season 1 finale, which premieres April 8.
Apple TV+
The critically acclaimed series — from writer, creator and executive producer Dan Erickson and executive producer-director Ben Stiller — follows Mark (Adam Scott), a recently promoted team leader at the shrouded-in-mystery Lumon Industries. Unlike most corporate clerical workers, Mark and his team have opted to undergo the severance procedure, which medically divides employees’ work memories from their personal lives. After a number of mysterious occurrences, Mark is prompted to confront the true nature of his work and outer life.
“It’s really exciting to see the response from people who are loving the show — and the level of fan engagement,” Stiller said in a statement.

The Conners star and executive producer Sara Gilbert, Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital), Leland Orser (Brand New Cherry Flavor), Lyriq Bent (Four Brothers), J.R. Cacia (Infidel), Tate Donovan (Respect) and Kevin Dunn have been cast opposite Chris Messina in HBO Max pilot Verbatim, an anthology series from Brett Weiner, Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, Left/Right Productions and the New York Times.
Verbatim, based on the New York Times Op-Docs digital series, tackles actual events with all dialogue taken from primary sources and presented verbatim. The pilot episode follows the story of the 2019 college admissions scandal.
The roles are not being revealed. Messina is believed to be playing the scheme’s ringleader Rick Singer, Gilbert is likely Laura Smith, the lead FBI investigator on the case who also is narrating the pilot; Orser, Donovan and Dunn may be playing three of the wealthy parents charged in the bribing scandal.
Because of the series’ anthology nature, I hear that, except for Messina, who is expected to link the different cases throughout the series, the rest of the cast are guest stars for the pilot only.
Red Hour’s Nicholas Weinstock, Jackie Cohn and Stiller executive produce with Left/Right’s Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver and Kathleen Lingo for the New York Times. Scott Lochmus and Michelene Starnadori will produce.
2020 HBO Max Pilots & Series Orders
Verbatim began as a short film that screened around the country including at the Sundance, South by Southwest and Telluride film festivals in 2014 and won the audience award at the Dallas International Film Festival. The New York Times expanded the film into a digital series that has garnered millions of views and was an official selection of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival Shorts Program with Verbatim: The Ferguson Case in 2016.
Gilbert is repped by Gersh and Management 360. Huebel is repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Orser is repped by Gersh. Bent is repped by Buchwald, Luber Roklin Entertainment in the U.S. and The Associates Talent Agency and Seth Management in Canada. Cacia is repped by The Coronel Group. Donovan is repped by Gersh. Andy Samberg will star in and produce an untitled sci-fi and comedy that Apple has acquired in a bidding war and that also has an impressive array of producers attached, including Ben Stiller and Noah Hawley, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Andy Siara, who wrote Samberg’s “Palm Springs” from 2020, will write the screenplay, which is based on an original idea by “Bojack Horseman” creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg.
The logline is being kept under wraps, and the film is currently in development. No director is attached, but the team hopes to find a director in the coming months.
Samberg and Bob-Waksberg will produce, as will Hawley and Dan Seligmann for 26 Keys, Stiller and Nicky Weinstock for Red Hour. Jackie Cohn and Siara will executive produce.
Samberg and Siara’s “Palm Springs” fetched a record sale at Sundance last year and was one of Hulu’s most-watched films in its history.

“Verbatim” is based on Weiner’s New York Times digital series of the same name, itself an adaptation of Weiner’s 2014 short film. The original project used dialogue lifted straight from a 2010 legal deposition from a real estate company’s lawsuit against the Ohio records department.
Weiner discussed his approach to the original project in a 2014 interview with TheWrap. “I was adamant every line had to be verbatim from the court document — no cutting, rearranging or changing words,” he said at the time. “I had an awesome script supervisor stand next to me the entire day, just tugging on my sleeve whenever an actor got any word wrong.
