“Sabrina” fans, you’re in luck: the first photo of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” has arrived.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, showrunner and executive producer of the upcoming Netflix series, tweeted out a photo of titular star Kiernan Shipka and Ross Lynch, who plays Sabrina’s boyfriend Harvey.
“Well, it’s out there,” Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted Wednesday. “A 1st look at Harvey and Sabrina from the “Chilling Adventures of #Sabrina.” Adorbs, right?”

This is our first look at the humans of Greendale. In February, Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also showrunner for The CW hit “Riverdale,” tweeted out a photo of Sabrina’s talking cat, Salem.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet #Greendale’s latest resident. All hail, Salem! #sabrina, #netflix pic.twitter.com/XZ1dNPgvja

In addition to Shipka and Lynch, the cast includes Lucy Davis as Aunt Hilda, Miranda Otto as Aunt Zelda, Michelle Gomez as Sabrina’s favorite teacher Mary Wardell, Chance Perdomo as Sabrina’s cousin Ambrose, Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina’s Bff Rosalind, Bronson Pinchot as Principle George Hawthorne. Richard Coyle will play Father Blackwood, Tati Gabrielle will play Prudence, Adeline Rudolph will play Agatha, Abigail Cowen will play Dorcas, and Justin Dobies will play Harvey’s brother.
Based on the Archie Comics graphic novel “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” the project was first developed at The CW as a companion series to fellow Archie-verse show “Riverdale.” The series is said to be tonally similar to “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Exorcist” and described as “a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft.”
Archie Comics chief creative Aguirre-Sacasa serves as writer and executive producer. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions also executive produce the Warner Bros. Television production, alongside Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater and director Lee Toland Krieger.

New Indie: The hilarious and provocative Dear White People (Lionsgate Home Entertainment) heralds a breakthrough not only for writer-director Justin Simien but also for a smarter, wittier discussion about race (and gender and sexuality and academia and any number of other topics). Set at a fictional and mostly-white Ivy League university, the film follows various characters, all of whom have their own very different goals and agendas. The satirical targets cover a broad range, from awkward interactions between whites and people of color to homophobia within the black community to the ongoing and seemingly never-ending battle against the continued popularity of Tyler Perry. Featuring standout performances from Tessa Thompson, Tyler James Williams, Justin Dobies, Kyle Gallner and...

Chicago – Some say, to use a Fox News term, that America is “post-racial.” The election of Barack Obama is supposed to have ended the debate on race, and any marginalization because of race. Of course, that is not possible in society and culture, and it’s articulated in writer/director Justin Simien’s new film, “Dear White People.”
The film is set at a fictional elite college, where the African-American population is small and highly educated. The stereotypes still dog them, especially from the clueless – and also supposedly well-educated – white students on campus. With a talented cast, the breakdown of how farcical “post-racial” is becomes apparent within the film, and Justin Simien creates a statement of principle that echoes beyond the production.

Chicago – A new voice has everyone’s attention with the shaking-head comedy “Dear White People,” a necessary “Wake Up!” to a melting pot nation that still needs to get itself together, even if a black president is in the White House.
Razor-sharp satire is the weapon that debut writer/director Justin Simien aims at a society that still exhibits behavior both unconsciously and consciously, both embarrassing (fascination with black hair) and grotesque (the party life’s appropriation of blackface). Equally heated and hilarious, “Dear White People” shares with a wide audience necessary criticism in the never-ending discussion about race.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
The microcosm of “Dear White People” is an Ivy League school, where four black students are confronted with situations of self vs. identity. Sam (Tessa Thompson) is an outspoken student who challenges her fellow students through her schoolwork (a short film titled “Rebirth of a Nation”) and radio show of...

Dear White People
Written & Directed by Justin Simien
USA, 2014
Sometimes we need a little anarchy to liven things up. First-time filmmaker, Justin Simien, isn’t interested in lighting any candles with his debut effort, Dear White People. He’s here to curse the darkness… and then criticize the darkness for acting too dark. This shotgun blast of a movie sprays indiscriminate venom on every racially-charged target in its path. The sharp-tongued script eventually bogs down beneath its own ambition, but the brilliant satire far outweighs its narrative girth. It’s also one of the funniest, most observant comedies of the year.
It’s no coincidence that Robert Altman gets name-checked in Dear White People, as his fingerprints are smeared all over this multi-character affair. In fact, the entire premise, which tracks the last volatile weeks leading up to a “race riot” on a prestigious college campus, is little more than...

“Racism is over in America,” declares the snooty president of the elite (and fictional) Winchester University halfway through Dear White People. Would you believe that said president is a white character? Clearly, this is a man unqualified to run an institution that would not likely accept the above declarative sentence as an essay thesis statement. The character certainly fits the college experience as it is often depicted in film – one completely isolated from what any generic student character actually goes through on campus.
Thankfully, writer/director Justin Simien (making a bold debut here) does all he can to flip a film about post-secondary life on its head. Here, the characters are mostly a range of contradictions and complexities who speak their minds with the same sharp wit and intelligence that fits the profile of any student at an elite university. Dear White People may often be more of an investigation...

By the name only, “Dear White People” will generate plenty of controversy and conversation as it marks the directorial debut of Justin Simien in this race relations story.
The satire follows the stories of four very different black students at an Ivy League college where a riot breaks out over a popular “African-American” theme party thrown by white students.
Latino-Review was on the red carpet at the Los Angeles Film Festival to interview the cast and crew before its premiere at the film festival. We managed to speak with Tessa Thompson, Blaine Featherson, Brittany Curran, Justin Dobies, Naomi Ko and Nia Jervier on their roles and their opinion on race relations. In addition, we also talked with director Simien, producers Stephanie Allain and Lena Waithe and costume designer Toye Adedipe.
The film won the Special Jury Prize from the Sundance Film Festival and the Audience Award from the San Francisco International Film Festival.

There are movies that manage to touch upon current issues and then there are films that speak to you, as an audience member, and your life experiences. Luckily, for me, Dear White People managed to be both of those films, and extremely successful at that. While Justin Simien does encounter some minor stumbles, in his capable hands Dear White People is a perfect film for today’s generation.
The plot for Dear White People is pretty simple. Samantha White (a revelatory Tessa Thompson), a media arts major and host of the popular show “Dear White People”, is fed up with the state of the all-black residence hall Parker/Armstrong and decides to run for Head of House against the golden boy son of the Dean of Students, and her former flame, Troy (Brandon P.
