The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals dashed our dreams of cruising around between the bubble windshield and flaming exhaust of Adam West's iconic Batman car (via The Hollywood Reporter).
DC sued mechanic Mark Towle in 2011 for building and selling replicas of the 1966 Batman TV show and 1989 Batman film Batmobiles from his Californian company, Gotham Garage.
In a court opinion including the words "Holy copyright law, Batman!" judge Sandra Ikuta said:
"As Batman so sagely told Robin, 'In our well-ordered society, protection of private property is essential'. Here, we conclude that the Batmobile character is the property of DC.
