In Part 3 of Lupin, gentleman thief Assane Diop (Omar Sy) pulls off his most outrageous feat yet: making himself disappear. Oh, and he manages to snatch the incredibly famous (and extremely valuable) Black Pearl out from right underneath the police’s noses — like, literally. But you know what they say about the best-laid plans… Unfortunately, Assane didn’t count on a new villain, who foils his scheme when he brings an important figure from Assane’s past back into his life.
, Assane had managed to avenge his father’s death and put wealthy businessman Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre) behind bars, but not before making himself France’s most notorious (and most popular) criminal thanks to his many heists inspired by literary hero (and original gentleman thief) Arsène Lupin.
Despite Assane’s many elaborate disguises, it’s way harder to fly under the radar once the entire country knows what you look like.

This post contains spoilers for this week’s episode of The Curse, now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Having introduced the characters, the world, and the unnerving tone in The Curse series premiere, Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie go for a more eventful — and more uncomfortable — second episode, with “Pressure’s Looking Good So Far.” We’ve got perhaps the clumsiest on-screen heist of all time. We’ve got pregnancy news that starts out happy for one partner and awkward for the other, and that ends sadly for both of them.

Assane was forced to betray his friend, as the kidnapping gang had asked him to do so in exchange for his mother’s life. But Benjamin, being a loyal and understanding friend, didn’t break his discretion about Assane’s survival. Lupin, Part 3, Episode 5, opened with Guedira interrogating Benjamin, who was captured at the Château de Thoiry, for stealing the red bracelet. Never have I been more thankful for a lengthy “Previously on…” recap than when I pressed “Play” on Lupin’s Part 3 premiere. It’s been over two years since the suave con artist last graced our screens, and in that time, I may have forgotten some plot points — but the people of France have definitely not forgotten about Assane Diop despite his disappearing act.
When Part 3’s first episode begins, it’s 2021, and Assane is hiding out in Marseille with his dog J’accuse. A newscast informs him that while the world has no idea where he is, they definitely know his family’s whereabouts.

Lupin Part 3 Episode 4 opened with Assane sneaking into the kidnapper’s covert location, but one of the associates of the kidnapper spotted him. She was confronted by Assane, who demanded to get his mother back. She called her boss, who let Mariama talk to her son. Mariama explained to her son that there was no way Assane could trick them, as they were very powerful and dangerous people, capable of doing anything they wanted to do. Assane had to withdraw from his mission after realizing that Mariama’s life was in danger. Moreover, he had to comply with the demands the kidnapper asked him to fulfill.
Assane went back to Benjamin’s antique shop and told him everything. He also told him about the plan for his next heist. The kidnapper had asked him to steal an expensive bracelet owned by Tara Xang, wife of real estate mogul Max Mollar.

Lupinis a Netflix series starring Omar Sy. Inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin.
Created by George Kay and François Uzan, it premiered on Netflix in 2021 and now reaches its third season. In this season, we find Assane as the most wanted thief in France, who will come up with a thousand original tricks in one of the best Netflix series.
If the first season was a resounding success (with almost 100 million views), the third promises to continue the adventures of our favorite thief, portrayed by Omar Sy, who exudes charisma and charm and has rightfully become one of France’s most beloved actors.
This third season continues the story where we left off, but in the first episode, our beloved thief, using the alias “Lupin” for his robberies, will return to his old ways, leading to a new plot involving some of the characters we already know.

Arsene Lupin is one of the most popular fictional characters, with uncanny similarities to Sherlock Holmes. Written by Maurice Leblanc, Arsene Lupin is a gentleman thief who is widely known for his masterful disguises. However, the popular Netflix thriller series Lupin, released in 2021, is not based on the life story of this fictional character but follows an ordinary Frenchman, Assane Diop, who is inspired by Lupin’s story and his cunning techniques to carry out the thefts. Assane, with the baggage of a troubling past, has only one motive in life, which is to vindicate his father, Babakar Diop, and unmask the real culprit, bringing him to justice.

Netflix said that Lupin Part 3 was “coming soon” more than a year ago, but the day has finally arrived. The third chapter in the French crime thriller starts streaming on October 5. And unless you’ve got the police file on Assane Diop (Omar Sy), you might need a recap of the story to date. We’ve got you covered. The series — like its main character — is inspired by the stories of Arsène Lupin, a gentleman thief created by French writer Maurice Leblanc in the early 1900s. Lupin Part 1 laid the groundwork of the story, introducing Assane Diop, a Senegalese man raised on the stories of Lupin. Having become a master thief and master of disguise himself, Assane now seeks revenge against the wealthy businessman Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre) for framing Assane’s late father, Babakar (Fargass Assandé), for the theft of an expensive necklace. Assane comes to learn that Hubert...

Does Hollywood even know what to do with Omar Sy? For years, the captivating and charismatic French actor has been relegated to, at best, minor roles in tentpoles like "Captain America: The First Avenger," "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and the "Jurassic World" trilogy. He put his charms and comedy skills to work as a dog-loving mail carrier in "The Call of the Wild," but beyond that, Sy is basically a no-name in the eyes of your average U.S. moviegoer.
Thank goodness, then, for "Lupin," the Netflix heist thriller show that's almost single-handedly made Sy a known entity in the U.S. It's a bit surprising it's taken off, too, given its source material. The French TV series centers on Assane Diop (Sy), a cunning master of disguise and expert thief seeking payback against Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre) — the slimy business tycoon who framed Assane's late father and got...

Netflix has set the launch date for Part 3 of “Lupin,” its popular heist series starring Omar Sy, for Oct. 3.
Louis Leterrier, who’s just been tapped to helm the next installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise, is back in the director’s chair for the third part of “Lupin,” which will come more than two years after Part 2. Assane Diop (Omar Sy) is back for Lupin Part 3, but blink and you’ll miss him! During its Tudum fan event today, Saturday, September 24, Netflix showed off a teaser for Lupin’s upcoming action. And in this third part of the French thriller, Sy’s “gentleman thief” character is a fugitive from justice — or injustice, as they case may be. The teaser starts with Assane catching us up on the first two parts of Lupin, saying that after what happened to his father, he wanted to protect his family and stay in the shadows. He had to return to the light, but now, he’s vowing to vanish again. Netflix And as we hear a news reporter discussing the disappearance of France’s most famous thief, we see Assane in various disguises — hiding inside and outside of Paris — while his wife, Claire (Ludivine Sagnier), seems just one step ahead of danger.

Exclusive: “Things have changed a little bit,” Omar Sy admits about life after Lupin. He laughs. “My parents do know what I do now.”
That’s how the actor and his family like it. Low key. The Frenchman’s move to LA a decade ago was in part driven by a desire for more anonymity. In his home country, Sy is a superstar. In America, picking his kids up from school didn’t need to be a drama. “It’s still different being in LA,” he says, despite his growing fame. “Even if things have changed a bit, there’s still less attention here than it might have been in France. The guy from Lupin is not a big deal in LA.”

Gaumont, the powerhouse behind “Narcos,” “Lupin” and “Barbarians,” has boarded “Le Prince,” a period mystery thriller series written by Charles den Tex and Paul de Vrijer (“Hunter Street”).
Currently in development, “Le Prince” will be produced by Gaumont, as well as Stories By, a label launched by France TV Distribution, and Dutch producers Paradise Media.
The six-part series will be driven by a strong female character and will be inspired by the true story of the disappearance of Louis le Prince, the inventor of the first ever motion picture camera.
“Le Prince” unfolds in France, in the late 19th century, a few years before the invention of cinema. Le Prince was a French artist who is believed to have been the first person to shoot a moving picture sequence, years before the Lumière brothers and Thomas Edison. Le Prince mysteriously vanished in 1890 shortly before a planned public demonstration of his camera in the U.

The suspected robbers of the Netflix shoot of “Lupin” were arrested by police on March 9 near Paris just under two weeks after the dramatic heist, according to local reports.
Part 3 of “Lupin” was shooting on the outskirts of Paris in Nanterre with Omar Sy when approximately 20 people who had their faces covered broke onto the set after throwing mortar fireworks on Feb. 25. An estimated €300,000 worth of equipment was stolen.
Seven people, most of them under the age of 18, were placed under formal investigation for armed robbery and fencing committed as part of an organized gang on March 11, the Nanterre prosecutor told French radio outlet Rtl.
Netflix confirmed the news to Variety. Most of the people arrested already have a criminal record and youngest of the group is only 13, per Rtl. Three people were placed in police custody and four were placed under judicial review. A portion of the stolen equipment...

Red jumpsuits, Salvador Dalí masks and the Italian anti-fascist revolutionary anthem “Bella Ciao” are no longer merely elements that comprise the iconoclastic Spanish caper drama “Money Heist.” They’ve managed to bleed out into real life as numerous protesters — from the hit series’ home country to Lebanon, Indonesia and beyond — have infused these motifs with their own fights against government tyranny, corruption and wealth inequality.

“Lupin” star Omar Sy is re-teaming with Gaumont on his big screen comeback with “Father & Soldier,” a politically minded WWI action-drama about family bonds and Africa’s forgotten war heroes.
Shooting now in France, the film is being helmed by Mathieu Vadepied, who made his directorial debut with “Learn by Heart,” which world premiered at Cannes’ Critics Week. Vadepied also worked as the artistic director and cinematographer on “Untouchable,” Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano’s 2010 comedy smash hit which marked Sy’s acting breakthrough and earned him a Cesar nod.
The story opens during the First World War, in 1917, in the French colony of Senegal. Sy stars as Bakary, a father who enlists in the army to stick by Thierno, his 17-year-old son, who was recruited against his will. Rolling off the smashing success of “Lupin,” Netflix and French star Omar Sy have entered a multi-year feature film deal. It’s the streamer’s first deal with a French talent or filmmaker.
The partnership will see Sy’s Paris and L.A.-based production company develop original films for Netflix, with Sy starring in and acting as executive producer on the projects.
“I have experienced Netflix’s collaboration with artists and their passion to bring unique and diverse stories to homes all over the world,” said Sy, who was a creative producer on some episodes of “Lupin.”
Sy added that he was “happy to have the opportunity to extend the relationship and look forward to this next step of our journey together.” Sy broke through with Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano’s hit comedy “The Intouchables” a decade ago, which marked his first leading role after many years in acting.

At TCA on Thursday, the creatives behind Netflix’s Lupin reflected on the show’s success and its ability to transcend national borders, noting that while it draws on an iconic character, its reception also has much to do with its star, internationally beloved actor Omar Sy.
“Omar is this person. He’s genuine. He’s extremely generous and the kindest man, and at the same time, he can be tough. He’s like this mountain of muscles and can fight,” said director Louis Leterrier. “So the thing about Lupin is, he’s everything Omar is, and I think that’s the key to its success. Lupin is Omar, and Omar is Lupin.”
Letterier later expanded on what makes the show unique, saying that it represents “the confluence of many genres and a lot of talent coming with the same goal, but coming from very different walks of life or creative paths.

This piece contains spoilers for Netflix’s Lupin Part 2.
Netflix’s Lupin ended Part 1 on the ultimate fannish moment, with Officer Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab) addressing Assane Diop (Omar Sy) as “Arsène Lupin?”—and then picked up Part 2 with Assane responding in turn, identifying his new ally Guedira as “Ganimard,” the name of Lupin’s archnemesis. Throughout the latter five episodes of George Kay’s (Killing Eve) French crime drama, the gentleman thief and the police officer replicate their literary heroes’ dynamic—shifting between rivals on opposite sides of the law to something approaching friendship—while evolving the relationship beyond Maurice Leblanc’s original characters.
“Who could baffle the schemes of Arsène Lupin better than Ganimard, the patient and astute detective?” Leblanc writes early on in Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar. Wherever the gentleman thief is mentioned, his law-abiding archrival quickly follows, hot on the metaphorical trail. Like the best cat-and-mouse pairs,...

The satisfied smile of Assane Diop as he walks away from people he’s just foiled is an incandescent marvel. To say that “Lupin” succeeds because of the man behind that smile, Omar Sy, is a vast understatement. Take him out of this show — whether in the first five episodes that became an early-2021, word-of-mouth international hit or in the second five that make up what Netflix calls “Part 2” — and it’s hard to imagine any other part of it equipped to handle what the confidence in that title performance brings.
