Season 1 of Severance, the science-fiction psychological thriller, ended on a cliffhanger, so luckily, it has been confirmed to return for Season 2. The series, starring Adam Scott and directed by Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle, follows an employee of a fictional corporation who agrees to separate his non-work memories from his work memories. However, things get a little sketchy when an employee disappears, and Mark (Scott) uncovers some dangerous conspiracies at his workplace, Lumon. When will Severance Season 2 begin production? On January 29, 2024, it was confirmed that Severance was in production, as fans got their first look at the season’s behind-the-scenes photo. See it below. Welcome back to Lumon.
“Severance” Season 2 has returned to production, which was delayed for months due to the Hollywood strikes.
Season 2 of the popular Apple TV+ thriller stopped shooting in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America first went on strike against the studios represented by the AMPTP. The writers strike ended on Sept. 26, but by that point, SAG-AFTRA was 74 days into a strike of its own. Now that SAG-AFTRA has also reached a deal with the studios, everyone in Hollywood is cleared to go back to work, and “Severance” is back on track.

There's a hilarious irony to some of the productions currently halting in the wake of the Writers Guild of America's strike following the failure of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to develop an acceptable deal during contract negotiations. Take, for example, the show "Loot," which features Maya Rudolph as a billionaire looking to distribute her immense wealth, or "Severance," a dystopian thriller about the ways corporations devalue and dehumanize their workforce in increasingly corrupt and terrifying ways. The latter comes from creator and writer Dan Erickson, who conceived the series that would later be directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller, with Aoife McArdle producing and directing as well.
"Severance" was one of the hottest shows of 2022, with many declaring the debut season one of the strongest first seasons of an original series in TV history. But its second season is now on hold according to Deadline,...

Martin McDonagh’s nine-fold Oscar nominee The Banshees of Inisherin, snubbed at this year’s Academy Awards, was a big winner at the 2023 Irish Film and TV Awards (IFTAs), winning three trophies, including for best film, best supporting actor for Brendan Gleeson and best supporting actress for Kerry Condon.
Aftersun star Paul Mescal, another snubbed 2023 Oscar nominee, also won over the home crowd, winning his first IFTA award as best actor for his turn in Charlotte Wells’ acclaimed debut.
Austin Butler’s turn as Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s musical biopic, another Oscar-nominated performance that failed to win over the U.S. Academy, wowed IFTA voters, who gave the young American the award for the best international actor. With just a few days until the 2023 Oscars, hot contender The Banshees of Inisherin has been given a boost on home soil.
Martin McDonagh’s period tragicomedy — which has nine Academy Award nominations (an all-time Irish record) — has now landed the most film nods this year for the Irish Academy Awards.
Announced by the Irish Film & TV Academy (IFTA), Banshees has 11 nominations, including best film and, as with the BAFTAs and Oscars, the film has been nominated in all of the performance categories for its main cast of Colin Farrell (who also got a nod for supporting actor for The Batman), Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon. Banshees‘ 11 nominations is the same number in 2022 amassed by Irish-language drama The Quiet Girl, which is now also in contention for an Oscar in the international category.
Further down the list, Frank Berry’s immigration drama Aisha — starring Letitia Wright and Josh O’Connor — landed 10 nominations.

The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) were the big winners at last night's Directors Guild of America's DGA Awards. The filmmaking duo took home the top prize, Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film, for "Everything Everywhere All At Once" — beating out directing legend Steven Spielberg ("The Fabelmans"), as well as Joseph Kosinski's massive aerial action film "Maverick," Todd Field's critical darling "Tár," and Martin McDonagh's black comedy "The Banshees of Inisherin."
These days, the Daniels seem to embody their hit film, being everything, everywhere, all at once. The Michelle Yeoh-led maximalist action-comedy has something for everyone, and is deeply, satisfyingly, weird. It topped many best-of lists (it was my #1 pick for Best Films of 2022) and is a favorite to take home the Academy Award for Best Picture. Now with a DGA Award under their belts, the odds of that happening are better than ever.

With 17 of the last 20 DGA Award winners going on to secure the Oscar for Best Director, the Director’s Guild of America plays a pivotal role in who wins an Academy Award. Momentum is key for film’s grueling winter awards circuit, and now we’ll wait and see if Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have enough to make it 18 of the last 21.
In TV, there is no waiting — not this year. While the DGA Awards can certainly play their part in the Emmy race — having boosted future darlings like “Succession,” “Watchmen,” and “The Queen’s Gambit” — the 2023 winners already had their shot at Emmy glory. Nominations may still prove valuable to freshman series like “Wednesday” and “The Bear” (not to mention “Better Call Saul’s” last chance to win its first Emmy), but Saturday night’s ceremony will have little to no effect on what’s next.

With less than a month to go before the Oscars, every award show counts. The next few weeks will see all of the major Hollywood guilds give out their annual awards, ensuring that each department gets its moment in the spotlight. Tonight, directors took center stage as Hollywood convened at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the Directors Guild of America Awards.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have been named the best theatrical-film directors of 2022 for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” by the Directors Guild of America, which presented its 75th annual DGA Awards on Saturday night in Beverly Hills.

Adam Driver’s reality unravels in his 2023 Super Bowl ad for Squarespace.
The Oscar nominee plays multiple versions of himself in the 30- and 90-second spots, the former of which will air during sport’s biggest night on Sunday.
“I couldn’t be happier to do this commercial with Squarespace and for the Super Bowl,” said Driver. “The cast Alone was reason to do this.”
The ad begins with the actor being baffled by the idea that Squarespace is a website that makes websites, “meaning it could create itself,” he marvels at the thought of the concept. As he continues to spiral down he rabbit hole, reality around him unravels and triggers a “singularity event.”
Directed by award-winning director Aoife McArdle, the commercial recognizes Squarespace’s founding history as a pioneer in website building and will provide a moment of humor during the high-stakes game on Feb. 12.

In his fourth time at the podium in the last six years, “This is 40” and “Knocked Up” director Judd Apatow will preside over the 75th Annual DGA Awards, often seen as the belwether for deciding who is favored to win the best director Oscar. The awards, which will take place on February 18, 2023, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, will honor the best in film, TV, commercials and documentaries, however, there has already been some blowback about the lack of women represented among this year’s titles.
In a statement, DGA Chair Beth McCarthy-Miller said she’s “thrilled that we landed Judd for this special anniversary DGA Awards show 75 years in the making. Never underestimate the power of a Chipotle gift card,” said McCarthy-Miller. “Judd’s a comedy genius that can be counted upon to keep things moving -and as host, he doesn’t have to worry about getting played off the stage.

Those directors vying for TV Drama Series honors include Bateman (for an episode of Netflix’s “Ozark”), Gilligan (for an installment of AMC’s “Better Call Saul”), Stiller (for an episode of Apple TV+’s “Severance”), Aoife McArdle (also “Severance”) and Sam Levinson (an episode of HBO’s “Euphoria”). Competing for TV Comedy Series are Burton (for an episode of Netflix’s “Wednesday”), Bill Hader (HBO’s “Barry”), Amy Sherman-Palladino (now a four-time nominee for Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Christopher Storer (Hulu’s “The Bear”) and Mike White (HBO’s “The White Lotus”).

2022, we aren't quite done with you yet. Award season has officially rolled into town, meaning it's time to reflect on the highest highs of last year as the industry awards (or snubs) some of the most beloved titles across film and TV. The latest awards lineup comes courtesy of the Directors Guild of America, which today announced the nominees across seven television categories.
Last year, the DGA television awards were largely dominated by "Succession" — as was every other TV-based awards show. But in its absence, both new and old titles have stepped up to vie for the spotlight. Last year, the DGA television awards were largely dominated by "Succession" — as was every other TV-based awards show. But in its absence, both new and old titles have stepped up to vie for the spotlight. For drama series, the nominations went to Jason Bateman ("Ozark"), Vince Gilligan, ("Better Call Saul"), Sam Levinson, ("Euphoria"), Aoife McArdle ("Severance"), and Ben Stiller ("Severance").

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominations in its television categories, with several new series, including “Wednesday,” “Severance,” and “The Bear” receiving nominations alongside returning series such as “Ozark,” “Better Call Saul” and “The White Lotus”
At last year’s DGA television awards, “Succession” dominated the drama series category with all five of the nominees. This year, with that HBO series on hiatus, the nominees went to Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Vince Gilligan (“Better Call Saul”), Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”), and Aoiff McArdle and Ben Stiller for two separate episodes of “Severance.”
In the comedy series category, Tim Burton scored his first ever career DGA nomination, for “Wednesday.” Burton was joined by Bill Hader (“Barry”), Amy Sherman-Palladino (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Christopher Storer (“The Bear”), and Mike White (“The White Lotus”).

The Directors Guild of America rolled out the first round of nominations for their annual awards, consisting of the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials, and Documentary categories for projects from 2022. Tomorrow, the guild will announce its full film nominations, including its lauded First Feature.
The DGA Awards are voted on by over 18,000 members of the guild. The 2022 nominees include TV series broadcast between March 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022. Voting for the awards occurred between December 9, 2022, and January 6, 2023.
First question: Did members of the Director’s Guild watch any TV dramas this winter? The Dramatic Series field is stocked with long-time DGA favorites in Vince Gilligan, who snagged a nomination for “Better Call Saul’s” final season, Jason Bateman, who earned his third nomination for “Ozark,” and Ben Stiller, who won for “Escape at Dannemora” in 2019. From Pawnee City Hall to the bowels of Lumon Industries, Adam Scott’s acting career has revolved around the American workplace.
The actor, largely known for comedies, just nabbed his first Emmy nomination for portraying Mark S. in “Severance,” Apple TV+’s disquieting drama from creator Dan Erickson. The show picked up a total of 14 nominations, from acting to recognition for production design, casting, directing, editing, title design, and music composition.
“I’m still sort of absorbing it, the shock of it,” Scott told IndieWire over the phone less than two hours after nominations were announced. “I was not expecting it and couldn’t be more pleasantly and delightfully surprised — that sounds a little whimsical, but I am really just so, so happy for the show and Dan and Patricia and John and Chris — all the actors because they all made this show what it is, everybody that was nominated...

There are a whopping 237 submissions for Best Drama Directing on the 2022 Emmys ballot, which will yield seven nominees. As a reminder, last year’s winner was “The Crown” (“War” by Jessica Hobbs) and the other nominees were “Bridgerton” (“Diamond of the First Water” by Julie Anne Robinson), “The Crown” (“Fairytale” by Benjamin Caron), “The Handmaid’s Tale” (“The Wilderness” by Liz Garbus), “The Mandalorian” (“Chapter 9: The Jedi” by Jon Favreau) and “Pose” (“Series Finale” by Steven Canals).
The only eligible returnee out of this bunch is “Bridgerton,” which entered three episodes of its second season for consideration. It may have a harder time getting back in as “Ozark” and “Succession” will be back to reclaim their crowns, having prevailed in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Winner Jason Bateman is back on the ballot for the “Ozark” series finale, after being absent for the third season, and joining him will be his co-star Laura Linney for her directorial debut,...

[Editor’s Note: This is the first of two parts analyzing the sci-fi craft contenders, beginning with two outliers, “Severance” and “Outer Range.”]
In a season marked by outstanding science fiction, nothing stands out more than the two genre-benders: Sci-fi thriller “Severance” and sci-fi Western “Outer Range.” That says a lot considering the rest of the field: A Marvel team-up between the mind-bending “Moon Knight” and time-jumping “Loki,” an ambitious adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s legendary “Foundation,” a daring sequel to “The Man Who Fell to Earth,” the latest spin-offs in the “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” universes, and the return of the Netflix blockbuster “Stranger Things.”
“Severance” and “Outer Range” are very dark and unconventional. The critically acclaimed “Severance” is arguably the best new drama among Emmy-eligible series, thanks to its ingenious premise — involving a surgical procedure that splits its characters’ workplace and personal memories — and its minimalist aesthetic. Showrunner Dan Erickson and directors Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle have created an Orwellian nightmare for Adam Scott’s office worker,...

Apple TV Plus is finalizing its Emmy plans for acclaimed hit “Severance,” which just had its season finale last week. Variety has learned exclusively how the streamer plans on dividing its large ensemble into the drama categories.
Stars Adam Scott and Britt Lower will try their luck in the lead drama actor and lead drama actress races. At the same time, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman and Jen Tullock will angle for supporting drama attention. Perhaps the biggest mystery of who may end up where, Christopher Walken will not be submitted for guest actor in a drama, as originally presumed by Apple because of his role in more than half of the episodes of the season. He will compete alongside his co-stars Turturro and Tillman in supporting actor drama. The deadline for entering programs for primetime programming is May 12, so any of these plans are subject to change.

“[The series] explores human emotion and memory and the idea of what we can cut off and we can forgot,” says Stiller. “It has a lot of roots in office-workplace comedies that I love, like The Office and movies like Office Space, and it was taking that genre and kind of flipping it on its head.”

‘Severance’ Review: Adam Scott’s Corporate Job Literally Splits Him in Two in Eerie Apple TV+ Series
While a movie like “Office Space” or a show like “The Office” might be the go-to pop culture reference point when it comes to the monotony and soul-sucking nature of an office workplace — after all, they have “office” in the titles — there is something to be said just going full tilt into the metaphor and depicting the corporate world as Hell. ABC’s short-lived “Better Off Ted” did so in an irreverent way, while never quite backing down from the fact that its Veridian Dynamics was an evil, evil place. USA Network’s “Mr. Robot” had more to say beyond its depiction of E-Corp (aka “Evil Corp”), but what it had to say about corporate culture was on the ball. And Comedy Central’s twistedly pointed “Corporate” explored the drudgery of a multinational corporation called Hampton DeVille with evil embedded in the name.

How do you separate your work and home-life selves? Is it even possible at all? That’s the question at the heart of the new Apple TV+ series “Severance,” from director Ben Stiller and creator Dan Erickson. The dystopian series about a technology that enables workers to remove the memories of their workday — and of their personal lives while at the office — will launch globally February 18 on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes. This will be followed by new weekly installments each Friday during its nine-episode season. Watch the full trailer for the series below.

Aoife McArdle’s tale of a teenager rescued in reality by a stranger from her fantasies is an audacious delight
There’s a bit more style than substance in this audacious feature debut from Irish film-maker Aoife McArdle – but so what? The style is impressive, and there’s no obvious lack of substance either. McArdle gives us a good-looking and well-acted if dreamily directionless movie with some startling images, great sound design, a nightmarish moodscape, and a propulsive musical score from Jon Clarke.
Ann Skelly plays 17-year-old Candice, who goes to school in a small town on the Irish border. She has epilepsy and her fits are something to which she surrenders herself almost ecstatically, visionary moments in which she can enter a dreamworld where a certain good-looking boy is kissing her. This is Jacob (Ryan Lincoln) who, to her woozy astonishment, turns out to exist in real life, gallantly...

What begins as a romantic interlude shared between Candice (Ann Skelly) and Jacob (Ryan Lincoln) soon shifts to the latter randomly and silently strolling down the street (through fire) until finally arriving at a bar where the former is inexplicably waiting.
