- I'm grateful for the experience because it introduced me to and gave me an opportunity to observe different cultures and environments I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. At the end of the day it is a collaborative effort where you are trying your best to support the process of creation. Ever since I can remember there has always been more to it than just being a human coat hanger.
- There are all kinds of people I'd like to work with.
- I think it is up to each individual to decide through which glasses one prefers to look at someone.
- I looked around and felt an intrinsic urge to order a frappuccino.
- [on preparing for his role in Goitaca] There was only so much information available about the tribe. I had an inner urge to go and find out more. I flew to Quito and eventually got lucky.
- [on working with Leandro Firmino] His performance in City of God (2002) is considered one of the greatest movie performances of all time and in my mind is nothing less but exceptional, so you can imagine my heart, how fast it was beating that day. He is one of these rare actors who, by their sheer presence and focus, can help you set the bar to an almost surreal level of necessity to remain deep down within your own surface. A very generous and exceptionally talented individual.
- I was working as a craftsman when I stumbled upon that apartment. The landlord kept on asking: "Are you sure you'd like to take it?" It might have been an actual cave on the second floor but I couldn't stop imagining how it might look like if I put some work into it. I took it. I worked on it. As soon as I tried to fix the electricity I ended up resembling Jack Nance's character in Eraserhead (1977).
- I got my first job at a bookshop that opened. I had to put on a chicken suit to attract costumers to the shop. Afterwards I went to my lessons and at night I unloaded trucks. I was restless and deprived of sleep...like a zombie on tacos.
- The moment you do take a step you do so on an act of faith because you don't know if the floor is going to give up under your feet. It's definitely been a huge learning curve.
- When I was at high school I had this urge to run. I got into football and soon after began playing for a club. I thought if this works out I might be able to play professionally soon. Then I've been transfered to a boarding school on the top of a mountain in the alps. A lot of fresh air.
- [on being cast in national theatre production 'Francisca'] I sort of saw this news paper article. I called the number and Mat answered the phone. I told him I have absolutely no experience in acting but I'd be interested in giving it a shot. We met and talked. Something must have stuck with him. A couple of days later he called me and offered me the part.
- [on working with Rodrigo Rodrigues, director of Onde há vida há esperança] This man lives for the arts since the day he was born. He is always chasing something and that's who you want to work with. Filmmakers who have a strong feeling attached to their project and will pursue it no matter what. He is so clear with what it is he is after. His work ethic and the way he deals with any imaginable scenario is exceptional and out of this world. It's incredible to have been able to witness and I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him. If I would have to sum him up in a few words, I'd say: Competence, discipline and alien.
- [on living with indigenous tribes in the jungle to prepare for his role in Goitaca ] I've learned in the jungle that I don't know anything at all. I just want to stay curious.
