Ashleigh Banfield is sticking with NewsNation.
On Wednesday, the Nexstar Media Group-owned cable news channel said it had successfully negotiated a multi-year extension of Banfield’s contract, which will keep her eponymous prime-time conversation program on NewsNation for a while longer.
Banfield was one of NewsNation’s first hires, back when the channel was still operating under its previous branding, WGN America. She took over a slot occupied by a nightly news program in prime-time, vowing to resurrect the conversation-style chat show made popular by Charlie Rose and Larry King (CNN).
“I’m an avid news junkie,” Banfield said in an interview with Variety. “Something that’s been missing for me as a consumer has been the center lane — I’m exhausted by the breathless fights in cable news, and I long for the days when I could just be informed of what was...

The upstart cable news channel — owned by the local TV giant Nexstar — will launch The Hill Sunday beginning March 3. The program will be hosted by Chris Stirewalt, NewsNation’s political editor and the former political editor for Fox News.
The show will have a format similar to many of the other Sunday politics shows, combining interviews with politicians and newsmakers with a panel of commentators. Nexstar also owns The Hill, and already has a weekday politics program bearing the publication’s name.
On broadcast, NBC’s Meet the Press, CBS’ Face the Nation and ABC’s This Week have held court for decades, while CNN and MSNBC have tried a handful of different programs over the years. CNN’s State of the Union has been a constant on the channel. Fox News Sunday was actually...

Sunday morning is made for politics, and Nexstar Media Group’s NewsNation wants in on the action.
Starting in March, NewsNation will produce and air a new Sunday morning political talk show, hosted by the channels’ political editor Chris Stirewalt.
The show will “feature a variety of politicians and newsmakers discussing the latest political news from the nation’s capital,” as well as a panel of “guest commentators offering insight and analysis of the week’s key stories,” according to a press release issued on Thursday.
As described, the show appears to resemble similar fare on the major broadcast and cable channels — NBC’s “Meet the Press,” ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” “Fox News Sunday” and CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“We are delighted that Chris will be joining the new weekend lineup,” Michael Corn, the President of News at NewsNation, said in a statement.

ABC News has settled a lawsuit brought by a former Good Morning America producer, who claimed that the network ignored her sexual misconduct complaints about her boss at the show, Michael Corn.
Kirstyn Crawford had sued the network and Corn in 2021, claiming that Corn sexually assaulted her during a trip to Los Angeles in 2015, when the show was covering the Academy Awards. Corn denied the claims, calling them “demonstrably false.” The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Corn also was part of the settlement, but his attorney did not immediately return a request for comment. He left GMA in 2021 and is now at NewsNation.
A spokesperson for ABC News said in a statement, “ABC News and Ms. Crawford have resolved their dispute, and Ms. Crawford’s lawsuit against the company is now concluded. ABC News thanks Ms. Crawford for courageously speaking out about her experience at ABC News, and Ms.

Elizabeth Vargas thinks there’s room for a new evening newscast.
“I think a lot of people feel like they’re just being ignored or they’re turned off by the extreme nature of just one side, or the two extremes arguing with each other,” Vargas tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I think there’s a way to cover what’s happening right now in this country and around the world in a smart way. That doesn’t devolve into shouting matches or, you know, political talking points that aren’t really even related in many cases, to the events that we’re covering.”
Vargas, a veteran TV news correspondent and anchor (she succeeded the legendary Barbara Walters as the anchor of ABC’s 20/20), will launch her new show Elizabeth Vargas Reports on NewsNation Monday during the critical evening news window of 6 to 7 p.m.

The reason for weatherman Rob Marciano’s lengthy Good Morning America absence has been allegedly “revealed”.
Since 2014, Marciano has been employed as ABC’s senior meteorologist, providing extensive weather coverage across the network.
But GMA viewers noticed that Marciano has not been presenting from the studio since November 2022, with many social media users wondering why this was.
It’s now being claimed that Marciano has been “banned” from New York’s Times Square Studios, where GMA is filmed, after allegedly making a colleague feel “uncomfortable”.
A source told Page Six that Marciano was accused of “improper” behaviour and “was punished for it”.
While the alleged incident has not been divulged, it’s been claimed by a separate source that it occurred in the wake of Marciano’s divorce from his wife, Eryn, which was announced in July 2022.

“I’m not there to provide my opinion,” Vargas tells Variety. She intends to go over “the big stories of the day, with in-depth, tough interviews.”
Vargas is the latest anchor to join NewsNation, the news service being built by Nexstar Media. Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo is returning to primetime TV.
Cuomo will host a primetime show for NewsNation, the cable news channel owned by local TV giant Nexstar. The news was revealed on the channel Tuesday night in an interview with NewsNation’s 9 Pm host Dan Abrams.
Cuomo’s show will debut in the fall.
“I want to find a way to help people, I am going to come to newsNation and I want to build something special here,” Cuomo told Abrams. “I’ve decided that I can’t go back to what people see as ‘the big game,’ I think we need insurgent media, I think we need outlets that aren’t fringe and just trying to fill their pockets.”

After a long and much-publicized interruption, Chris Cuomo wants to get after it again.
Cuomo, who made that phrase the mission statement for his 9 p.m. program on CNN, is taking his bulldog demeanor and lean-in anchoring style to NewsNation, the still-nascent news outlet backed by large station owner Nexstar Media, which has in recent months made a series of acquisitions aimed at bolstering its presence in the media sector. Cuomo will join the NewsNation primetime lineup in the fall.
Cuomo has something to prove. His departure from CNN was less than amicable. The anchor was caught up in an investigation of sexual harassment claims against his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and in late 2021, New York State Attorney General Letitia James released documents showing the younger Cuomo took an active hand in helping his brother defend himself, an act that is anathema to most journalism organizations.

In an industry where many executives are quick to tout their own accomplishments, Peter Rice was known for turning down opportunities to take a public victory lap.
The soft-spoken British executive, who was ousted on Wednesday from the top TV job at Disney, has a reputation for quietly cultivating relationships with producers and directors such as Baz Luhrmann and Danny Boyle. In the 2000s, he leveraged those ties to boost the performance of Fox Searchlight Pictures with hits such as “Moulin Rouge!” and “Slumdog Millionaire.” More often than not, Rice let the directors, producers and actors take the bows.
That low-maintenance demeanor would serve Rice well in Murdoch’s empire as he became close to the family and rose in 2009 to oversee all of Fox’s entertainment networks. After the sale of 21st Century Fox to Disney in 2019, Rice took over the largest swath of Disney’s TV operations (everything...

A New York has tossed out a lawsuit brought by a producer who accused Michael Corn, a former top producer at Good Morning America, of sexual assault.
Judge Barbara Jaffe ruled on Wednesday that the statute of limitations had lapsed on the claims made by Kirstyn Crawford. In her lawsuit filed last year, Crawford claimed that Corn assaulted her while they were traveling in Los Angeles in February 2015 for coverage of the Academy Awards.
Corn, who left ABC News in April, 2021, denied the allegations and called them “demonstrably false.” He is now president of news programming for NewsNation.
In her dismissal (read it here), Jaffe also rejected Crawford’s claim that Corn created a hostile work environment since 2015, as she contended that she was denied a promotion and a raise in retaliation. The judge wrote that the incidents that Crawford described “all constitute discrete and isolated events that, while boorish,...

A judge in New York State Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit against former ABC News producer Michael Corn, who was alleged to have sexually assaulted a subordinate and to have created a toxic work environment at ABC News.
In August of last year, Kirstyn Crawford, a producer who worked with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, alleged that Corn, the former top producer at “Good Morning America,” assaulted her and another staffer, Jill McClain, on different occasions over a span of multiple years. Both women reported to Corn, who also for a time supervised “World News Tonight.” Crawford also alleged she lost opportunities to advance at work after she began trying to avoid Corn. After leaving ABC News abruptly last year, Corn was named president of news for NewsNation, a start-up news operation backed by large U.S. station owner Nexstar Media Group.

NewsNation is shaking up its primetime — a bit. Starting Monday, Dan Abrams’ “Dan Abrams Live” will shift back to 9 p.m., handing “NewsNation Prime” his 8 o’clock slot.
“NewsNation Prime,” anchored by Marni Hughes, is the country’s only live national primetime newscast.
“Moving to 9 p.m. Et will expose Dan and his show to millions of new viewers at a time when the cable news landscape is going through a lot of transition, with a number of schedule changes and anchor realignment underway,” Michael Corn, the president of news for NewsNation, said in a statement on Friday. “We also believe that ‘NewsNation Prime,’ with its team of experienced reporters and their ability to highlight the day’s big stories, is the perfect fit as the lead-in to Dan’s show.”

Former top ABC News producer Michael Corn Friday asked the New York State Supreme Court to throw out a sexual assault suit against him by one of the show’s staffers saying it’s past the statute of limitations and that the allegations are false.
In a memo accompanying his motion to dismiss a case that has roiled ABC and parent Walt Disney, he said the allegation stemming from an 2015 incident “fails as a matter of law because the statute of limitations for sexual harassment claims in New York is three years.”
Kirstyn Crawford, who worked under Corn at GMA, sued him in August, later added ABC to her claim for allegedly retaliating against her. She said the network declined to offer “her the job security and salary increase that she deserved” after she filed a formal complaint against her former boss. ABC has denied that. Both ABC and the former top producer of its “Good Morning America” have asked that a sexual-assault lawsuit filed against both of them be dismissed, citing New York’s statute of limitations on harassment claims and alleging the plaintiff in some parts has made charges that are inapplicable.
A lawsuit filed in August in the Supreme Court of the State of New York by ABC News producer Kirstyn Crawford raised troubling allegations that Michael Corn, a longtime senior producer at ABC News who supervised “GMA” until he left in April, had sexually assaulted her and another female staffer, Jill McClain, in separate incidents. The suit also claimed that ABC knew about allegations against Corn, or should have, and did little to reprimand or punish him.
“When Ms. Crawford first came forward in February 2021 with allegations against Michael Corn, they were immediately investigated independently of ABC News by Corporate legal and Hr.

A former top TV news producer alleged in a New York Times opinion piece that Chris Cuomo touched her inappropriately years ago when both of them worked for ABC News, a disclosure that threatens to add to public perception issues around the anchor, who leads CNN’s most-watched primetime program.

Disney has no plans to investigate how ABC News handled the accusation of sexual assault brought by a producer against her former boss, according to a recording of a staff meeting obtained by the Wall Street Journal.

ABC News producer Kirstyn Crawford sued Corn and the network in August, accusing him of assault and ABC News of doing nothing when she raised the issue internally. She later amended her complaint to say that ABC News, in fact, retaliated against her after she complained.

Kim Godwin, the president of ABC News, had told staffers in August that she wanted an independent investigation of the allegations, which were made against Michael Corn, who departed his post abruptly in April.

ABC news producer Kirstyn Crawford said the network retaliated against her after she filed a complaint early this year accusing her former boss, Michael Corn (pictured above), of assault.
Crawford filed a lawsuit with her accusations last month, detailing not only her assault accusation, but her accusation against ABC that leadership knew it but did nothing. In an amended version filed Wednesday, she said that after she formally complained to ABC in February, she was not given the option to renew her three-year contract in July, as staffers with those types of contracts “typically” are. ABC and parent company Disney have maintained silence on the sexual assault accusations leveled at former top “Good Morning America” producer Michael Corn and what, if anything, they’re doing about them.
Last Wednesday, “GMA” producer Kirstyn Crawford filed a lawsuit accusing Corn of sexual harassment. She named ABC in the suit, too, saying the company was aware of her accusations but failed to act. The next day, newly installed ABC News president Kim Godwin vowed in a widely reported staff meeting to secure an independent investigation.

When she worked at CBS News as a senior executive, Kim Godwin was known to be eager to gain more control of a large news operation. Now that she’s arrived as president of ABC News, she has it — and a lot more.
From the day she took the top role at the Walt Disney-backed news division, Godwin has been navigating tricky terrain. The top producer slot at the pillar of the organization, “Good Morning America,” came open abruptly before she started, the result of a surprise parting between the show’s former senior executive producer, Michael Corn, and ABC News. Godwin also had to find a way to tone down an increasing amount of on-screen rancor at “The View,” where co-host Meghan McCain seemed to be sparring on air with greater frequency. The Walt Disney Co. held mediation talks with a current and former employee who alleged that a former top producer for Good Morning America sexually assaulted them.
One of the women, Kirstyn Crawford, a network producer, filed a lawsuit last week against ABC and Michael Corn, who headed GMA until his abrupt departure in April. She accused Corn of sexually assaulting her during a trip to Los Angeles in 2015, when the show was covering the Academy Awards.
The Wall Street Journal first reported on the mediation talks, which were held in June but unsuccessful, and a source familiar with the situation confirmed the proceedings. Generally, mediation is held as a way to resolve legal claims outside the courts, typically with a retired judge presiding.
A spokesperson for ABC had no comment. Last week, when the suit was filed, the network issued a statement in which it said that it “disputes...

Disney-owned ABC tried and failed to mediate with sexual assault accusers in June before they took their accusations public last week, according to a new report in the Wall Street Journal.
Producer Kirstyn Crawford filed a suit last week accusing former “Good Morning America” boss Michael Corn of assault. Jill McClain, another ABC staffer, is not a plaintiff in the case, but is supporting Crawford and accused Corn of assaulting her, too.
A representative for ABC did not immediately return a request for comment on the report that Disney and ABC tried to mediate with the women this summer. Crawford alleged last week that ABC was aware of her accusation but did nothing. Corn left the network in April and went to Nexstar. He vehemently denies the accusations and Nexstar says it has no comment on them.
Per the Journal, the mediation attempt came after Disney concluded an internal investigation into claims against Corn.

Simone Swink has been named executive producer of Good Morning America.
Swink, who has been with the show since 2010, is filling the top job following the departure in April of Michael Corn.
Corn, who is now president of Nexstar’s NewsNation, was accused last week of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed by Kirstyn Crawford, a producer on the show. She also claimed that a former ABC News staffer also accused Corn of sexual assault. Corn denied the claims.
Swink had been senior broadcast producer of the show, where she has been overseeing the GMA second hour. She originally joined the show as a writer.
“Simone is a dynamic, thoughtful and creative leader, experienced in collaborating across platforms,” ABC News president Kim Godwin wrote in a note to the staff. “I’m confident that she and the GMA team will continue to lead the show in new and innovative directions.

ABC has named Simone Swink the new executive producer of “Good Morning America,” ABC News president Kim Godwin announced in a memo Sunday.
The promotion for Swink, who has worked on the morning news show since 2010, comes just days after her predecessor, former “GMA” senior executive producer Michael Corn, was accused of sexual assault by two ABC producers. Corn had left ABC in April to become president of news for NexStar’s NewsNation and has denied all allegations.
Swink began her career at ABC News as a writer for “This Week with Sam Donaldson & Cokie Roberts” and then “Nightline” at the network’s Washington bureau. She also helped launch an evening newscast for the National Geographic Channel and produced long-form segments for “NASCAR in Primetime.”

ABC News will turn to an insider to lead its flagship morning program, “Good Morning America,” one of the most critical roles in live television.
Simone Swink, a longtime senior staffer at the show, has been named its senior producer, according to a memo sent to employees by Kim Godwin, president of ABC News Sunday.
Swink takes a role which has been left vacant for months. The show, a pillar of the economics of both ABC and its parent company, Walt Disney, was previously supervised by Michael Corn, who left abruptly in April, and was recently accused of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed last week. Corn has denied the allegations. ABC News has been sifting through candidates for the top job at “GMA” for weeks, and had considered a number of prominent executives from outside the company, according to people familiar with the process.

Kim Godwin, the new president of ABC News, said Thursday that she wants an independent investigation of how the network handled reports of sexual assault allegations against a former top producer for Good Morning America, according to a report.
The Wall Street Journal, citing audio of a call between Godwin and staffers, reported that she said during the meeting on Thursday, “We can’t have us investigating us. We need an independent person.” She was responding to staff anger over the way that the allegations were handled.
The producer, Michael Corn, abruptly left the network in April, but he has denied the claims brought by Kirstyn Crawford in a civil lawsuit filed on Wednesday. Crawford claims Corn sexually assaulted her during an Uber ride in Los Angeles in 2015, when they were there for coverage of the Academy Awards, and later that evening at their hotel.

An ABC News producer who has worked for years at “Good Morning America” has alleged that the show’s former top executive sexually assaulted her and another female staffer, and she claims the network did little to reprimand or punish him.
In a suit filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Kirstyn Crawford, a producer who works with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, alleges that Michael Corn, the former top producer at “Good Morning America,” assaulted her and another staffer, Jill McClain, on different occasions over a span of multiple years. Both women reported to Corn.
“ABC knew or should have known that Corn had a propensity to sexually harass female colleagues and that he perpetuated a hostile work environment at ABC,’ the suit alleges. “As early as 2017, ABC learned of Corn’s sexual assault on Plaintiff. Yet ABC did nothing to protect Plaintiff or remove...

After an ABC News staffer filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against the network and former Good Morning America top producer Michael Corn, accusing him of sexual assault, he is calling the claims “demonstrably false,” pointing to email exchanges he says counters her version of events.
In her lawsuit, filed in New York state court, Kirstyn Crawford, anchor producer for George Stephanopoulos on GMA, claims that Corn assaulted her while they were traveling in Los Angeles in February, 2015 for coverage of the Academy Awards. The lawsuit claims that as they were taking an Uber ride to their hotel, Corn pulled her head into his chest “and began kissing her and rubbing her legs. Each time Crawford tried to pull away, Corn pulled her right back.” It also alleges that he later came to her hotel room “for the express purpose of attempting to have sex with her.”
