This post contains spoilers for "Reservoir Dogs" and "City on Fire" (1987)
Acclaimed actor/writer/director Quentin Tarantino is known for paying homage to classic films in his work, a signature move that he made even in his debut feature, the 1992 heist movie "Reservoir Dogs." The director's films frequently nod to foreign and obscure cinema, offering plenty of Easter eggs for the attentive viewer. A close watch of any of his films might feel like an unbroken string of cinematic references, but sometimes the influence of a single film is so strong that it permeates through the entire movie. Such is the case for "Reservoir Dogs," and the Hong Kong action movie "City on Fire."
The 1987 crime film by director Ringo Lam tells the story of Ko Chow, an undercover cop who is forced to take on another risky job when a fellow policeman is killed by a gang of thieves.

This year’s Gay Days, the annual LGBTQ+ pride event that draws tens of thousands to Walt Disney World and other attractions around Orlando, is taking place amid concerns over the ultimate impact of a series of new laws championed by Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis.
Although Disney is not a sponsor of the event, the attendees’ annual visit to the company’s theme parks, in which they wear red to stand out among the guests, takes on special resonance given the company’s own battle with DeSantis, who has made the culture wars a signature part of his presidential campaign.
Organizers expect both safety and an inclusive atmosphere in visiting the Magic Kingdom, but they are taking other precautions given the series of bills that DeSantis signed earlier this month that target the LGBTQ+ community. The new laws compelled Equality Florida and the Human Rights Campaign to issue a travel advisory to the state.

If there's one evergreen truth about Hollywood, it's that breaking into the film business is never easy. There's always a catch-22 involved, especially for first-time filmmakers who face an endless revolving door of "I know he can get the job, but can he do the job?"
Assuming one can get through that conundrum, there's the matter of convincing a studio (or investors of some sort) that your movie can make its money back. It's the reason why so many green directors gravitate toward the horror genre for their debut film, given that horror is a perennial box-office draw.
Quentin Tarantino, being a brash artist from the get-go, did not take such a tried-and-true route to the big screen. His first feature film, "Reservoir Dogs," is a multi-character crime drama that pushed the envelope of language, violence, and structure in 1992, that last point confusing Hollywood in particular. One element Tarantino insisted...

"Reservoir Dogs" is an interesting film to revisit, for you can see all the techniques and storytelling devices that would become Quentin Tarantino staples. The soundtrack, nonlinear writing, and excessive blood. However, no one knew what to expect from the filmmaker when "Reservoir Dogs" first came out over three decades ago. The script had confused its fair share of individuals in Hollywood -- though it was framed as a crime film, it hardly featured any action or actual robbery for most of its runtime. When I first saw it, I was confused but also allured by its unique structure and story. I was entranced by how Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, and Tim Roth's characters dealt with the bloody aftermath of a heist I didn't even get to see.

"Reservoir Dogs" features a number of scenes that have seared into the brains of film lovers since it was released back in 1992. I know that for me it was the opening scene at the diner that made an impression, featuring discussions of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and the merits of tipping. I rented this movie from Blockbuster when I was around 12 years old expecting some big, cool action movie, but it was that opening scene that showed me that movies could be different from what I thought they were. It was after watching "Reservoir Dogs" that I wanted to learn more about it and, subsequently, who made it. In a lot of ways, the movie is my cinematic origin story, and I don't know if I'd be writing for this website without it.

Quentin Tarantino’s first feature may not be to all tastes, but it is an admirable feat of commercial filmmaking — what other director has broken into the front rank with such panache? The fifth time through, the splintered, elliptical structure still impresses, and there’s always something new to see in the performances of Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Steve Buscemi. The (rather bargain-priced) 4K disc set has everything — two formats, a digital code and those deleted scenes to ponder. And a Pulp Fiction 4K is due in just a week or so.

How in tarnation can a doofus commit crimes and destruction that warrant a 60 billion bounty on his head or snag the outlaw title of "The Humanoid Typhoon"? For those who have seen the 1998 "Trigun" space western anime by Madhouse, the question is the running gag. Though the grander and more dramatic question has been, "How much longer can said gunslinger doofus cling to his pacifist no-killing ideals"? In a dog-eats-dog Wild West on a planetary desert in the future, the 26-episode anime, adapting Yasuhiro Nightow's manga, held that question till the end.
Rebooting the anime that stars the much-loved Vash the Stampede in his red duster coat and straw-colored hair, the "Trigun Stampede" series has a whole lot to live up to. Luckily, Studio Orange is directing it with its signature splashy cell-shaded CGI (and Orange has rendered miraculous work with character designs in the anthropomorphic landscape of "Beastars"). The Civil War didn’t end at Appomattox, but still rages in the hearts and minds of Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight,” a salty hothouse whodunit that owes as much to Agatha Christie as it does to Anthony Mann. Though Tarantino toys with many of the lawless frontier genre’s classic tropes, it’s arguable whether this deliciously long-winded mystery — “molasses-like,” to use his own term — qualifies as a Western at all. It might more aptly be considered an ongoing North-vs.-Southern, seeing as how . The gratuitous bloodletting and hefty running time should appeal primarily to cinephiles, building word of mouth in the week between Christmas Day and Dec. 31, when it makes a killing in wide release.
Last year, Tarantino announced a career plan that would see the director retiring (or perhaps turning his attention to television) after 10 films, and in light of his own self-imposed limit, the helmer...
