AlleyCatz, an unassuming bowling alley in a fictional California town, isn’t compelling to passersby or potential customers from the outside. The venue run by Mozell (Sister Sister’s Jackée Harry) has a drab brick exterior, a monument to the sad architecture of suburban shopping centers. It doesn’t offer much when you walk inside either. The lanes need waxing, the bar requires tending and the equipment is in various stages of disrepair. Some people might take one look at AlleyCatz and run, but Walt (Shameik Moore), the silly protagonist of Yassir and Isaiah Lester’s boisterous directorial debut The Gutter, doesn’t have a choice. He needs a job.
The young man, who prefers to live life without a shirt, has been fired from more gigs than he can count. In a particularly amusing early sequence, Walt recounts his shoddy employment history to Mozell, whose face becomes increasingly disturbed with each revelation.

“While HBO Max will not be moving forward with a fourth season of South Side, we are so proud of the rich world Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle and Sultan Salahuddin created,” the statement read. “We spend most of our time at work, and whether we like it or not, most of us identify ourselves by what we do,” says Justin Spitzer, creator and showrunner of NBC’s American Auto. “That’s one of the first questions when you meet someone: You ask what they do.”

Everyone has to work in some way or another, which is why the workplace comedy has been a celebrated genre for decades. Whether it be in a Boston bar or at a paper company in Scranton, comic archetypes translate across all industries — and this season, three new series use their workplace settings to tackle various sitcom storylines and power dynamics in fresh and funny ways.

How did you spend your pandemic? Here’s how Sam Jay got through these past two years: Her Netflix special “Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning” debuted in July 2020. While continuing to work as a writer on “Saturday Night Live,” she also wrote on HBO Max’s “That Damn Michael Che,” served as a consulting producer on NBC’s “Kenan,” and then launched her own talk show, HBO’s “Pause With Sam Jay.”
Still not enough? In March, Peacock debuted the comedy series “Bust Down,” which Jay co-created and stars in alongside Chris Redd, Langston Kerman and Jak Knight. With so many gigs all at once, at this year’s WGA Awards, Jay pulled off a triple nomination in the comedy/variety sketch series category for her work on “SNL,” “Michael Che” and “Pause.”
But here’s the thing: This all happened mostly during an age of lockdowns, social distancing, quarantines and masks.

Soldier Boy certainly is no Superman.
In the latest trailer for Season 3 of Prime Video’s “The Boys,” premiering June 3, new supe Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) makes his debut — complete with a bloody murder sequence by plowing his shield into the face of a presumed baddie.
Set one year since the events of the critically acclaimed Season 2, “The Boys” kicks off with Homelander (Anthony Starr) completing his apology tour for “falling in love with the wrong woman” — ahem, an ageless Nazi named Klara Risinger, aka Stormfront (Aya Cash), who helped found the sinister Vought conglomerate — and Hughie (Jack Quaid) becoming a senior analyst for the Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs.
Meanwhile, Butcher (Karl Urban) is applauded for not killing supes and laying off the booze. That is, until Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) presents Butcher with vials to make him a superhero for just 24 hours a time to properly put a...

Each category winner will compete for the title of best in rescue, which will culminate in a 100,000 donation.
“During these challenging times, animals have never had such an important impact on our wellbeing,” said “American Rescue Dog Show” creator and EP Michael Levitt. “Now more than ever, it’s time to give rescue dogs their moment in the spotlight. The cuteness overload on this...

The past year has demonstrated, more than ever, just how essential essential workers really are. So why is it still so rare to see television shows that feature them as main characters?
There are, of course, numerous shows that feature nurses and other medical professionals in prominent roles, but one would be hard-pressed to name multiple shows that focus on different types of hourly, low-wage service sector workers, such as people in food service or retail/customer service — the type of people who have been praised repeatedly during the pandemic for their roles in keeping the world moving.
In fact, except for shows such as “The Conners” on ABC and NBC’s “Superstore,” which ended its run in March, there are virtually none. Fox’s “Bob’s Burgers” does technically feature a family that works in food service, but considering the Belchers are the business owners, they deliver a different kind of socioeconomic storyline.

The following contains spoilers for The Boys season 2 episode 7.
The ongoing presence and practice of politics within democratic societies should represent the pinnacle of human achievement: the fair and equitable ordering of communities, city states and nations; the voluntary outflow of power from the people to their chosen representatives.
In reality, however, the true power rests not in the hands of the people, but in the gloved fists of major institutions: including corporations and religions, the balance of power between those two behemoths varying from country to country, all around the world, western or otherwise. Certainly in the U.S., no man or woman can ascend to the presidency without the backing of at least one of them, and Amazon Prime’s superb superhero satire The Boys understands this bleak state of affairs perfectly. While the show is at heart a reaction against the implausibly virtuous world of the comic-book superhero,...

It’s fair to say that Chris Mark didn’t have a whole lot to do in The Boys’ Season 2 as Blindspot! At least, it doesn’t look like we’ll see him pop up again any time soon.
Mark is a prolific and respected stunt performer and fight choreographer, who you’ve probably already seen in a bunch of things to date. Though the Canadian actor’s speaking roles are less common, he recently appeared as Yuuto Murakami in Netflix’s October Faction and as Bruce Lee in Hulu’s Future Man, but it’s as a stuntman that he’s notched up most of his credits in the likes of Suicide Squad, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Pacific Rim and Star Trek Beyond.

Season 2 of the Amazon Prime series kicks off with the supe delivering a faux-sincere speech at Translucent’s funeral, after which Starlight takes the stage to sing an American Idol finale-esque ode to the fallen hero. Homelander later slips into Stillwell’s office, where he finds some breast milk in the mini fridge, and yes, he helps himself to it. Ashley walks in on the awkward moment and thanks Homelander for recommending her for Stillwell’s position. She then introduces him to The Seven’s newest recruit: Blindspot, a...

ABC has picked up additional episodes of “American Housewife” and “Bless This Mess,” the network announced on Thursday.
Both shows will run for an additional six episodes this year, with “American Housewife” currently in its fourth season and “Bless This Mess” in its second.
“‘Bless This Mess’ has quickly become a fan favorite, due in large part to the expert wit of co-creators Lake Bell and Elizabeth Meriwether, and our incredibly talented and charismatic cast,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said. “This series exquisitely captures a witty and warm look into the close-knit communities of America’s heartland, and we are so excited to deliver more stories from ‘Bucksnort’ to the masses.”

ABC has picked up more episodes of comedies American Housewife, currently in its fourth season, and sophomore Bless This Mess. Each will produce six additional episodes, for what ABC calls full-season orders.
American Housewife had originally received a 15-episode order, which will now go up to 21 episodes and the show’s total to 97 episodes. The pickup is a vote of confidence to the comedy, which has been an utility player for ABC over the years and a solid Friday anchor this fall.
Bless This Mess was a midseason entry last season, so its Season 2 order was for 13 episodes. The back order brings that up to 19.
