The first full, official trailer for Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac has released and to no surprise it looks like a Lars von Trier film. While the explicit nature of the film is sure to rouse the most attention, there clearly is a storyline here and it could prove to be fascinating, though talk of a five-and-a-half-hour cut does seem to be pushing the boundaries of what an audience may be able to take given the snippets we see here. Nymphomaniac tells the story of self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), from birth to the age of 50. On a cold winter's evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life,...

I'm not sure what to make of this latest report out of the Norwegian site Montages (via The Playlist) saying that despite the softcore version of Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac playing in theaters in Denmark and Norway this Christmas, that the complete, five hour, hardcore version will then play at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival five months later. The fact it would have already played in some territories, softcore or not, gives me pause and especially since it would have played theaters five months in advance makes me wonder if Cannes chief Thierry Fremaux would determine the headlines garnered by having von Trier's pornographic new film at the festival, three years after he was designated persona non grata is actually worth it. In my opinion it's a decision beneath what I consider to be the most prestigious festival there is, but prestige vs. attention can sometimes cloud a person's vision.

A third clip from Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac has premiered featuring Uma Thurman, and this time the visual elements are safe for work, though you may want to wear some headphones to muffle the dialogue. As with the previous two clips this one also comes accompanied with a brief message... Keeping track of a large network of lovers isn't always easy, and Joe is soon confronted with the unpleasant consequences of being a nymphomaniac. After all, you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. Check out the clip below, the film hits theaters in Denmark on Christmas Day while U.S. distributor Magnolia Pictures has yet to reveal their plans. Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac hits theaters on Christmas Day in Denmark while domestic distributor, Magnolia Pictures, has yet to set a U.S. release date, but the marketing continues on as today we have the above, not safe for work picture (via Vulture) of stars Stacy Martin and Shia Labeouf from the film along with a new clip, which I've included at the bottom of this post. The clip and image come from the second chapter of the film titled "Jerome". Vulture gives us the following description: "Love is just lust with jealousy added" Though love is a shallow feeling in the eyes of the cynical nymphomaniac, young Joe is met by forces penetrating her armoured defences. His name is Jerome. For a bit of added clarity, Martin plays the film's lead character Joe at a young age. Joe is a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac and will be played in large...

Forget about love. Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac reportedly wasn't ready for this year's Cannes Film Festival, which is a shame, but the film's German distributor isn't going to pretend it doesn't still exist as they have released the first poster for the film and it pretty much gets straight to the point, while remaining something a child could see. The film is described as a wild and poetic story of a woman's erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg). It looks as if I might not be able to afford a trip to the Cannes Film Festival this year, but I am really hoping Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac makes it into the line-up just so I can sit back and watch the sparks fly. If there's any director that's been able to provoke a reaction on the worldwide stage it's von Trier and with an explicit, Nc-17 film on the horizon you better believe people will have something to say. Today a new image (via The Playlist) from the upcoming feature has arrived featuring the film's star, Charlotte Gainsbourg, doing what I assume her character does best. Gainsbourg stars as Joe, and the story is described as focusing on her erotic journey from birth to the age of 50. Above is the first look at Charlotte Gainsbourg in Lars von Trier's new movie Nymphomaniac, in which she plays Joe, and based on the synopsis this would seem to be a shot from very early in the film. Nymphomaniac is the wild and poetic story of a woman's erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg). On a cold winter's evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents. Of course, the big story with Nymphomaniac is that it will be an explicit, Nc-17 film with graphic sex scenes.
