Last week on “Top Chef” in “Door County Fish Boil,” the cheftestants went to the beach for a flavorful fish conflagration, which led to the elimination of Soo Ahn, who had come through “Last Chance Kitchen” as the season’s surprise 16th cheftestant. That leaves five competitors on the main show (plus one returning this week from “Lck”) competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Manny Barella, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller and Michelle Wallace. So what happened on May 29 in “Lay It All on the Table”?
“It’s a new day. My hand feels a lot better,” says Savannah the morning after the fish boil challenge. She stabbed herself pretty badly, which threw her off her game and landed her in the bottom three. “But having a...

Last week on “Top Chef” in “The Good Land,” the cheftestants had to honor Native American ingredients and cuisine, which limited the types of ingredients they were allowed to use. In the end the judges eliminated two of them based on that challenge and based on how the chefs had done in that week’s Quickfire: Laura Ozyilmaz and Amanda Turner. That leaves six competitors on the main show (with at least one set to return soon from “Last Chance Kitchen”) competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Soo Ahn, Manny Barella, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller and Michelle Wallace. The latest episode of Top Chef brought us the highly anticipated Restaurant Wars, a signature challenge that always delivers dramatic twists and intense culinary battles. Episode 8 of season 21 was no exception, with two teams vying to impress the judges and diners with their restaurant concepts and culinary execution. Kicking it old school This year, the competition went back to its roots with a three-course menu requiring at least two choices per course. As Kristen Kish reminded them, This year we’re going to kick it old-school… everything else is up to the chefs… as always, this challenge will push

Last week was “Restaurant Wars” on “Top Chef,” one of the most hotly anticipated and punishingly difficult challenges of every season. This year it resulted in the second elimination of cheftestant Kaleena Bliss, who decided to forego “Last Chance Kitchen” to protect her mental health, taking her out of the competition for good.
That leaves eight competitors on the main show competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Soo Ahn, Manny Barella, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller, Laura Ozyilmaz, Amanda Turner and Michelle Wallace. “The legendary risotto curse struck again!” says Kristen Kish at the start of this week’s “Top Chef: The Dish with Kish” after show. In this week’s episode of the cooking competition, titled “Sausage Race,” French cheftestant Kevin D’Andrea undertook the rice dish that has crushed the hopes of competitors in the past. Though it wasn’t a bad risotto in and of itself, it lacked the necessary sausage flavor it needed to fulfill the challenge, so he was eliminated. But it’s a dish you can make in 30 minutes to an hour, so why is it so hard to get it right on the show? And how do you make it properly? Kristen explored the dreaded dish with All-Star Amar Santana. Watch the episode above.

Early “Top Chef” favorite Rasika Venkatesa was eliminated last week in the aptly titled “Chaos Cuisine,” leaving 10 cheftestants on the main show competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Soo Ahn, Manny Barella, Kaleena Bliss, Kevin D’Andrea, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller, Laura Ozyilmaz, Amanda Turner and Michelle Wallace.
So what happened in episode seven, “Sausage Race”?
“It feels weird not having Rasika here,” says Danny, who has found a new running buddy in Savannah. Rasika was sent home last week in a result that was pretty shocking because she and fellow bottom chef Michelle have been two of the strongest, most consistent chefs of the entire competition thus far. “I felt like I was going home,” Michelle admits. Being in the bottom is “a kick in the ass.

“Chaos cooking is a thing that I think I’m still wrapping my brain around,” says Kristen Kish to “Top Chef” All-Star Marcel Vigneron in the latest episode of her after show “The Dish with Kish.” Vigneron defines it as “a blatant disregard for all the rules, and it’s specifically up to the chef to do whatever they want. Kind of like fusion, but fusion on steroids.” Watch Kish and Vigneron take on the unusual culinary trend above.
There were two challenges in this week’s “Chaos Cuisine” episode of “Top Chef,” but in both cases cakes were among the best dishes. Michelle Wallace won the Quickfire Challenge, which was to make a dessert highlighting dairy; her dish was a corn cake with mascarpone cheese, lemon zest and basil cream. Then Dan Jacobs was one of the top four chefs in the chaos cuisine Elimination Challenge with his seafood-topped funnel cake.

Padma Lakshmi’s post-Top Chef career may veer further into comedy, as the popular former host of the hit reality competition show shops around a comedy series script and continues to host her stand-up comedy night in Brooklyn.

“After every elimination, I’ll be waiting right here to give each chef their one shot at redemption,” says Tom Colicchio in the preview for “Last Chance Kitchen,” which will air after “Top Chef” season 21 episodes and pit the ousted chefs against each other for a chance to return to the competition. “But this season, I may do things a little differently — please meet this season’s 16th competitor …” Watch the preview above.
All is not lost for chefs who have a bad day on the Bravo cooking competition. “Last Chance Kitchen” gives them a chance to make a comeback. But it’s not easy. They have to go head-to-head against another eliminated chef to prepare a dish under a tight time limit. The loser is eliminated from “Top Chef” for good. But the winner gets to continue through “Lck” until finally a chef is selected to return to the competition.

“I think you want to get a lot of flavor in as short an amount of time as possible,” says “Top Chef” season four champion Stephanie Izard during the first episode of “The Dish with Kish,” the new “Top Chef” after show (watch it above). Host Kristen Kish challenges Izard to make a dish using leftover ingredients just like the bottom three chefs did in the season premiere, “Chef’s Test,” before David Murphy was eliminated.

“Top Chef” returned for its 21st season on Wednesday night, March 20. So what happened in the season premiere episode, “Chef’s Test,” when 15 brand new cheftestants came to Wisconsin to celebrate the culinary culture of the Midwest and compete for the grand title?

Wednesday’s season 21 premiere of Top Chef is a hard reset in a number of ways, most obvious among them being the new host. For the first time in 19 seasons and just as many years, it isn’t Padma Lakshmi gently but decisively telling an unlucky hopeful to pack their knives and go. It’s Kristen Kish.
The season 10 winner, initially kicked off the competition before fighting back to the finale on spin-off Last Chance Kitchen, emerged as an early and clear favorite to fill Padma’s shoes when she announced her exit last summer. Kish has been a familiar face to the franchise since her 2012 win, expanding her TV horizons by hosting the Netflix update of Iron Chef and National Geographic’s Restaurants at the End of the World. But those who tune in to the start of Top Chef‘s Wisconsin-set cycle will notice that Kish isn’t the only change.

When Top Chef makes its long-awaited return for its historic 21st season, it’ll be with a new host, chef and TV presenter Kristen Kish. You may not only recognize Kish from her shows on the Travel Channel, TruTV, and National Geographic but also as a former Top Chef competitor.
In fact, Kish won her season of the competition show, after first being eliminated in season 10 but then making a comeback in Last Chance Kitchen to ultimately beat out 23 other chefs. It’s an impressive resume, to say the least, and there’s arguably no one more qualified to take on the job of host and judge on Top Chef than someone who’s actually been through the gauntlet.
As great as it is to see Kish as the new face of Top Chef, some longtime fans might be left wondering why former host Padma Lakshmi decided to step down from the show.

After 20 seasons, “Top Chef” has gone through some significant changes. Most notably, former champion Kristen Kish replaces longtime host Padma Lakshmi for Season 21, which also introduces its first major twist — at least since the introduction of redemption with “Last Chance Kitchen” — to the overall gameplay in two decades.
“It was a great opportunity for us to take a look at what we’ve done for the first two decades and start thinking about the next two decades,” Ryan Flynn, SVP of Current Production for NBCUniversal Entertainment and Streaming, told IndieWire. “With Padma moving on, it really felt like a great exclamation point” on that period of the franchise.

For Kristen Kish the opportunity to join “Top Chef” for season 21 as its new host happened quickly. “I flew to LA, had a series of meetings, and then a couple of weeks later I got a call that said, ‘You are “Top Chef” host,'” she explains. The long-running cooking competition series premieres Wednesday night, March 20, and it’s a year of change for the show. We chatted with Kish and her fellow judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons about what we can expect. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Top Chef has a new host for the first time since its second season when Padma Lakshmi replaced Katie Lee Joel. For Season 21, Top Chef: Wisconsin, it’s Top Chef: Seattle alum Kristen Kish who’ll tell folks to “pack their knives and go.” But who is Kish? Though she might be familiar to superfans of the culinary competition show, here’s a breakdown of all the key details. How Is Kristen Kish Connected to the Top Chef Franchise? Kish was initially introduced to the Top Chef world as a Season 10 competitor in 2012, which she ultimately won. It wasn’t an easy path to victory for her, though, as she was initially eliminated during the “Restaurant Wars” episode. However, she won her way back into the main competition with five consecutive wins in Last Chance Kitchen against other eliminated participants. David Moir/Bravo Kish went head-to-head with Brooke Williamson in...

There are plenty of changes in Season 21 of Bravo’s foodie hit Top Chef, which opens with chefs from around the country headed to America’s Dairyland, Wisconsin. Viewers will not only be treated to the new locale and supersized installments but also a fresh host, as Kristen Kish (Top Chef Season 10 winner and host of National Geographic’s Restaurants at the End of the World) takes over for Padma Lakshmi, who left the show after 17 years. The Midwest is home for the Korean-born Kish, who was adopted and raised in Michigan and attended culinary school in Chicago. She knew she would be in her comfort zone in Milwaukee and Madison, where the majority of filming took place. “It kind of feels like a homecoming in more ways than one,” the chef says. When it comes to casting “Top Chef,” talent is the most important element a contestant must possess in order to compete. “Everything else comes second,” said Ron Mare, the Emmy-nominated Senior Vice President of Casting at Magical Elves, which produces Bravo’s long-running culinary competition. But it’s no longer necessarily a skill with knives that the casting team is looking for.
“You have to have that talent level in order to go on a show like this,” he continues, explaining that casting “Top Chef” is far different from the many reality series he’s handled in the past, like, “America’s Next Top Model” and “Project Runway.” As the series has evolved, so have the people cast on the show. While talent remains paramount, there’s more of an emphasis on compelling food stories, with host Padma Lakshmi telling “Entertainment Tonight” that “Top Chef” “shows audiences a very particular side of these chefs.

Padma Lakshmi is having an “otherworldly and amazing” morning, after pulling her latest set of three Emmy nominations for the culinary competition show Top Chef, which she’s long hosted and exec produced, and her newer Hulu series Taste the Nation, examining cuisine from coast to coast.
The nod for Bravo’s Top Chef — her 14th, overall — is particularly meaningful given her recently announced decision to depart the franchise of which she’s been a part for 19 seasons. “It feels really, really great to be able to leave my tenure right at Top Chef, knowing that I gave it my all and the last season, we got the nominations again,” Lakshmi said. “I’m really happy, and I want to thank all of the people who worked so hard on that show that you never see. I’m over the moon because I’m leaving the show in a great shape.
