Another 3-D breakthrough, this time for a Paramount musical rescued from oblivion and remastered by the 3-D Archive. Rhonda Fleming and Gene Barry star in a blend of songs and Alaskan adventure filmed in downtown Hollywood. The depth effects are great, but the big surprise is Teresa Brewer, the radio star turned one-shot movie musical wonder. Her voice resurrects memories of pop vocals just prior to the arrival of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

As many of you already know, Mykelti Williamson played Benjamin Buford “Bubba” Blue in the movie Forrest Gump. Bubba is Forrest’s friend whom he meets upon joining the Army. Bubba was originally supposed to be the senior partner in the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, but due to his death in Vietnam, their platoon leader, Dan Taylor, took his place. The company posthumously carried his name. Forrest and Dan later gave Bubba’s mother Bubba’s share of the business. Throughout filming, Williamson wore a lip attachment to create Bubba’s protruding lip. But here’s something you didn’t know about the part of Bubba.

The Toronto International Film Festival is right around the corner, with new titles being added to their lineup every week. One very special film that was just included under the Galas section is Terry George’s “The Promise,” which will be making its world premiere at the festival.
Starring Oscar Isaac as Michael, a humble Armenian apothecary who leaves his village to study medicine in cosmopolitan Constantinople, the drama follows him during the Armenian genocide. Christian Bale also co-stars as Chris, an American photojournalist who has come to the country to partly cover the geopolitics and is in a relationship with the talented Ana (Charlotte Le Bon), a Paris-educated, Armenian artist. The first images of “The Promise” were revealed by the Tiff website, and you can take a look at them below.

Top Gear remains one of the most popular shows on iPlayer, despite the BBC having axed Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May from the long-standing motoring programme.
However, with no new Top Gear episodes in the near future - and no more in the show's original guise - these figures are widely expected to slump in the coming weeks and months as the public tire of repeats.
Despite rebooting a show that annually generated millions of catch-up views, the Beeb has claimed it is unconcerned by the prospect of declining iPlayer figures in the post-Clarkson Top Gear era.
"Top Gear is obviously one of a number of very popular programmes available on iPlayer, but we've got a very strong autumn schedule," the Head of BBC iPlayer, Dan Taylor-Watt, said speaking with Digital Spy.

It's been available on PC for some time and just hit TVs, but the BBC iPlayer Live Restart feature will not come to mobile devices until next year, the broadcaster has confirmed.
Speaking exclusively with Digital Spy, the Beeb's Head of BBC iPlayer Dan Taylor-Watt told us how smartphone and tablet users still face a considerable wait for the coveted catch-up feature.
Live Restart, as its name suggests, provides users with the ability to skip back to the start of live broadcasts if joining after they've begun.
"We are planning to introduce Live Restart on the mobile and tablet apps as well," Taylor-Watt told us.
Quelling the excitement of mobile-based live restarts, he added: "That won't be for a while - we were keen not to hold the feature back on the big screen.
"I think [Live Restart for mobile] is likely to tip into next year, but with TV and the website,...

A sizeable new BBC iPlayer update has landed, with the Beeb's catch-up service adding a host of new features to make the service more personalised to your viewing habits.
Headline feature for the update is Live Restart; a function that lets you skip back to the beginning of live programming, even if you've joined the show after it's started.
The feature, already available on PC, is being brought to around 40% of the 1,700 TV attached devices regularly being used across iPlayer in the UK, with more to be added on a regular basis.
The coveted catch-up capability is being backed up by further features, including a new 'My Programmes' tab, a personalised home for your individual iPlayer experiences.
Pulling together all of the shows you've favourited or earmarked for future viewing, My Programmes will also offer prompts for the latest episodes in a series you've been enjoying.

The BBC has defended iPlayer after streams fell for the third month in a row, under continued pressure from rival on demand services including Netflix, Amazon, Channel 4, ITV and Sky.
The catch-up service had 271 million requests for TV and radio programmes in April, which is down from 278m in March, 299m in February and 343m in December, which set an all-time high record.
Peter Kay's Car Share sitcom was the most popular show overall, with 1.5m for its premiere episode and 3.7m for the series in total.
iPlayer chief Dan Taylor-Watt has posted a blog to "correct some misleading headlines", explaining that the service's popularity often fluctuates.
"BBC iPlayer usage changes significantly depending on the season with higher volumes of requests in the autumn and winter months, and lower volumes in the spring and summer," he said.
"Also, as the majority of iPlayer consumption is still catch-up TV,...

To get to a happy ending in a Tom Hanks movie, an innocent character has to pay the price. Here's the proof...
Feature
With the best part of $10bn banked for his movies across his career, Tom Hanks remains one of the biggest and most interesting movie stars on the planet. His most recent performance in Captain Phillips, for instance, was comfortably one of his best. And looking back on Hanks’ career, the path of increased boldness and range is easy to chart.
Furthermore, he’s achieved his successes without public meltdowns, without signs of turning into a diva, and without putting us through many poor films at all. The man is a hero.
Well, to everyone but certain characters in his movies. For, on rewatching Big, we became aware of an alarming trend: that there tends to be a character in a Tom Hanks movie whose role is to...
