“With so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from a regular cold open and hear some heartwarming stories from our moms instead.”

Exclusive: Saturday Night Live star Ego Nwodim has been tapped as the female lead opposite Adam Pally and Stephen Curry in the single-camera Peacock comedy series Mr. Throwback. Her casting is not expected to impact her duties on the NBC sketch comedy series, which is in the same corporate family.
The Mr. Throwback mocumentary, from Happy Endings creator David Caspe and writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman, centers on Danny (Happy Endings alum Pally), a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer who looks for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA great Steph Curry.
Nwodim will play Kimberly, Steph’s childhood friend, business partner, manager and essentially his overall handler. Kimberly, Steph, and Danny all grew up together, and while Kimberly is happy to see Danny pop back up in their lives, he’s not about to let Steph get taken advantage of by any of Danny’s schemes.

2023 was the end of an era in the Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy category. For the first time in 10 years, “Saturday Night Live” was snubbed in the category in which it has been nominated a record 22 times and has won twice, both for Kate MicKinnon. Can it rebound in 2024?
Ever since the TV academy allowed “SNL” cast members to enter in the comedy acting categories in 2008, the sketch series has dominated supporting actress, with 2013 and 2023 being the only years it has failed to earn a nomination. McKinnons is “SNL’s” most nominated performer in the category — and overall — with nine bids, the second most in the category after Rhea Perlman and Loretta Swit, who each received 10.
After McKinnon’s final nomination for her final season in 2022, it was clear that “SNL” might struggle to continue its nomination streak. She was “SNL’s” only nominee in the category that year, down...

The “SNL” 5-Timers Club has been around since December 1990, when Tom Hanks joked in his monologue that a person’s fifth time hosting is when they receive a membership card into the club. Hanks then left the stage and joined Steve Martin, Elliott Gould and Paul Simon in an expensive-looking set with hors d’oeuvres, waiters and a doorman. The iconic club set would be seen multiple times on NBC’s late sketch comedy throughout the decades, often (but not always) when a new host is anointed as a five-timer. Members of the club are always seen wearing exclusive jackets embroidered with a “5” badge.

Ramy Youssef may not be a household name, but his self-titled comedy series "Ramy" on Hulu landed him Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, not to mention a Peabody Award in 2020. So, he's got the right amount of experience and accolades to be called up to host "Saturday Night Live." Furthermore, Youssef is an established stand-up comedian, joining the likes of Nate Bargatze and Shane Gillis as hosts this season. But how did he handle the live sketch comedy of "SNL" in his hosting debut?
Well, Ramy Youssef doesn't seem to have much versatility when it comes to providing a variety of characters, and "SNL" leaned back on familiar formulas like talk shows and game shows, though they still delivered some hearty laughs. But there were also some amusing, peculiar sketches in this episode, and of course, big laughs...

Tonight on SNL, Poor Things star Ramy Youssef appeared as part of a commercial highlighting an exciting new product called Ozempic for Ramadan.
After getting his kids ready for school, Youssef tells the viewer, “You know, fasting for Ramadan used to be easy, but the last few years of work and a growing family, it’s felt almost impossible. But not anymore, thanks to Ozempic for Ramadan.”
A narrator then explains that “Ozempic is a medication prescribed to suppress hunger and slow digestion, and Ramadan is a month when Muslims abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset.”
While making a stop to the fridge at night, Youssef continues, “I used to rush to eat a whole meal before dawn. But now, I just grab my prayer beads and my Ozempic needle. As long as I shoot up before the sun rises, it’s halal.”

Some episodes are tougher than others for cast members to get air time on, Saturday Night Live cast member Ego Nwodim reveals in a new SNL Sketch Rewind video.
That apparently was the case for the Dec. 17, 2023 SNL featuring guest host and SNL legend Kate McKinnon.
However, Nwomdim managed to get her “Rich Auntie with No Kids” onto that episode’s Weekend Update segment, and she quickly became one of the most memorable characters of Season 49.
“She’s very cocky. She’s annoying, but fun,” remarked Nwodim. “You kind of hate her, but you love her.”
Nwodim explained she wrote the sketch with SNL staffers Asha Ward, Gary Richardson, and Alex English.
“I texted them when I found out we were getting to do it on Friday, and I asked, ‘What look do we want?’,” said Nwodim. “And Asha [Ward] sends back a picture of Kris Jenner dressed exactly like...

Scarlett Johansson impersonated Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) on Saturday Night Live‘s cold open segment.
The segment poked fun at Britt’s odd response to President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union address. Britt’s speech sparked backlash for telling the story of a human trafficking victim whom Britt suggested took place under Biden’s watch – the incident, in fact, occurred under the George W. Bush administration.
In the mock State of the Union address, many notable figures were parodied, including Mikey Day as President Biden, Heidi Gardner as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Georgia), Punkie Johnson as Vice President Kamala Harris and Ego Nwodim as CNN’s Abby Phillips.
“Folks, tonight I’m going to cover a lot. There’s going to be a lot of applause. So, Kamala, I hope you didn’t skip leg day, girl. You’re going to be up and down all night,” Day,...

Ego Nwodim’s “Lisa from Temecula” character was back on Saturday Night Live, once again shaking things up (literally) at a sports bar for a group of friends that included host Josh Brolin, Bowen Yang, Punkie Johnson, and Chloe Troast.
Lisa starts out her bit with a good deed – she’s picking up the check for the group. Things take a turn, though, when she notices the gratuity has been included on the check. That sets off a table shaking frenzy as she tries to erase it.
When a manager comes over and says that Lisa has been seen stealing soap from the restroom and asks the group to leave, Lisa’s claim of discrimination causes Yang and Brolin to break the wall in barely disguised laughter.
“Hold up, this wing ain’t done,” Lisa said at the end of the sketch. “That’s it, I’m suing. I told them to cook my meat!

When Sen. Katie Britt (R-al) delivered her State of the Union response on Thursday, it was so dramatic and over the top that it was quickly compared to a Saturday Night Live skit.
SNL took the bait tonight, this time with Scarlett Johansson making a surprise appearance as Britt.
From the spotless kitchen set, Johansson’s Britt told viewers, “Good evening America, my name is Katie Britt, and I have the honor of serving the people of the great state of Alabama. But tonight, I’ll be auditioning for the part of scary mom.”
She went on, “I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘This country is hell.’ You see, I’m not just a senator. I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot.”
Britt’s Sotu response has been panned on the left and the right for its bizarre delivery, with...

Bowen Yang, a familiar face on Saturday Night Live since 2019, has showcased his comedic talents through a variety of characters, from impersonating figures like George Santos and Truman Capote to crafting original personas. He even explored the dynamics of a “Straight Male Friend” in a 2023 sketch with Travis Kelce. But on March 2nd, Yang took a surprising turn, portraying a heterosexual version of himself in the SNL short, Bowen’s Straight.
Bowen Yang and Sydney Sweeney on SNL
The sketch revolves around Sydney Sweeney, who develops a crush on Yang, only to discover a shocking truth: he’s secretly straight. According to him, playing gay is simply a career move, while his true “modus operandi” is charming women. He even flaunts his “straightness” by making out with both Gina Gershon and Sweeney.

“Good afternoon, I’m Dana Bash, and welcome to Inside Politics,” announced the ever-dependable Heidi Gardner at the promising top of Saturday Night Live’s clearly politically inclined cold open tonight. “Later, we’ll give Wolf Blitzer an edible and an hour to solve the Middle East.”

Shane Gillis acknowledged the elephant in the room right away – sort of.

Saturday Night Live set its sights on The Floor, Fox’s new game show hosted by Rob Lowe that has contestants facing off in a series of quiz duels.
On SNL’s version, tonight’s host Shane Gillis played the defending champion David, who triumphed in the first round by correctly identifying a glass of orange juice.
But when it came time to identify famous faces, Gillis was continually stumped by a series of pictures featuring Black politicians and personalities. As pictures of Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou, Colin Powell and Aretha Franklin flashed on the screen, a panicked Gillis said things like “I know him, but I’m nervous” or “I’m a huge fan of hers” without saying their actual names.
Fear even had him miss the names of Stephen Curry and Oprah Winfrey.
But when an image of Cleveland from Family Guy appears, Gillis’ David gets it right.

‘Players’ is a new ‘rom- com’ feature, directed by Trish Sie starring Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim and Marin Hinkle, releasing February 14, 2024 in theaters:
“… New York female sportswriter ‘Mack’ has spent years devising successful hook-up ‘plays’ with best friend ‘Adam’ and their crew.
“While it has led to countless one-night stands over the years, following their playbook comes with a strict set of ground rules — chief among them: you can’t build a relationship from a play.
“When Mack unexpectedly falls for charming war correspondent ‘Nick’, she begins to rethink the game entirely. As the lines between work, fun, friendship, and romance begin to blur, Mack must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to playing for keeps…”

Somehow, in the midst of the “first quarter” of the year’s cinematic doldrums and discards a nice surprise “pops’ up to jolt you awake, or at the least engage your senses. Film fans, here to inject much-needed energy and a bit of snark into the “rom-com” is Leah McKendrick in Scrambled.
