By the conclusion of the 22nd Food Network South Beach Food & Wine Festival (Sobewff), 450 chefs had participated in 110-plus events attended by more than 60,000 food and beverage industry professionals, foodie fans, fine-dining fanatics, lovers of burgers, tacos and fried chicken, and the culinary-curious masses on the hunt for tasty bites and sips and a Guy Fieri selfie.
The wizard behind this culinary oz in the sand is Lee Brian Schrager, arguably one of the most influential people in Miami’s food scene as the founder of Sobewff and chief communications officer and senior vice president of social responsibility for Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, the largest liquor distributor in the United States.
Every winter, he makes magic happen in the Magic City as the event has transformed into being as much about culinary television, book and endorsement deals and celebrity chef sightings as it is about wine and food.

In Los Angeles, a city where bars and lounges close not long after midnight, a leisurely and luxurious meal is oftentimes a night’s main event. This style of nightlife has established a dining culture that is as much about the scene as it about the food, resulting in a constellation of new restaurants focused on unique dishes, elevated cocktails and sharp design to attract discerning customers through their doors. THR has compiled a list of places in L.A. that have opened in recent months that are making eating out an event again.

The sixth episode of “MasterChef: Legends” turned out to be the end of the road for Matt Gagnon, and it was all thanks to his overcooked filet mignon. This 36-year-old construction worker from Cromwell, Connecticut was randomly assigned the popular cut of meat in his mystery box. He prepared his filet mignon with porcini vermouth pan sauce, Brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, it was too seared on the outside and Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez, Joe Bastianich and special guest judge Michael Mina sent him packing.
“When you get presented one of the most delicious cuts anywhere on the planet, then you need to do it justice,” Gordon said after announcing the panel’s decision. “You certainly can’t overcook it and that unfortunately, is why you cooked for the last time.”

Heading into the sixth episode of “MasterChef: Legends,” host Gordon Ramsay and judges Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez had already eliminated two home cooks: Elyce Wooten and Annai Gonzalez. That left the Top 13 still in the running to join the show’s iconic winners list. This week the judges welcomed celebrity chef Michael Mina to the panel, a restaurateur who oversees more than 40 restaurants around the globe. Michael tasked the remaining chef-testants with competing in a fun meat roulette challenge. So how’d it all play out on Wednesday night?

Hey, "MasterChef" fans. Once again, they brought on another special, 4th, guest judge. It was cooking legend Michael Mina. Gordon also revealed that poor Mary Jane ended up getting sick. So, she could no longer compete in the competition. It was revealed that the contestants were tasked with a Mystery Box challenge in this episode. They had to cook whatever type of meat was presented to them in the mystery box.
