Exclusive: Cj 4Dplex and Cinépolis are expanding their partnership with the launch of four new ScreenX locations in Mexico.
ScreenX, the multi-projection cinema that extends movie screens onto the surrounding walls of an auditorium, offers audiences a 270-degree panoramic viewing experience. The new sites are in addition to Cinépolis’ two existing ScreenX auditoriums in Mexico City, Cinépolis Las Antenas and Cinépolis Toreo, which also showcases the company’s Ultra 4Dx format.
First of the additions will be in Morelia and will open this spring with the further three ScreenX sites to be announced — they are expected in key locations throughout the country.
Cj 4Dplex’s alliance with Cinépolis, the world’s third largest exhibitor, already includes over 50 multi-sensory 4Dx auditoriums throughout the circuit’s extensive network in Latin America.

Distributors who adhere to longer exclusive theatrical windows can mitigate against digital piracy, the CinemaCon panel ‘Changing Tastes And Changing Landscapes’ head on Monday.
Cinepolis COO Miguel Mier said digital content was an easier target for criminals, concluding: “The longer the window, the better our business and the less pirated it is.”
Rebecca Kearey, EVP/head of business operations and international at Searchlight Pictures agreed. “If you’re a studio and you control global distribution, you can mitigate some of this because you’re working on windows. If you’re an independent, it’s much harder.”
The panel also addressed the success of local-language cinema.

Exclusive: We hear that a decision was made late Thursday night to cancel ShowEast, the exhibition conference that was set for November 8-11 in Miami.
“Because of the pandemic and Covid, may of the studios aren’t prepared to travel. Many of the studios still have travel restrictions. If we’re going to do a show, we have to be successful and have the right people there, and unfortunately Covid has not only effected the industry, but the FilmExpo Group. This is the fifth show we had to cancel due to Covid,” Says Bob Sunshine, former President of the FilmExpo Group tells Deadline.
ShowEast, while not operated by NATO, is essentially the East Coast version of CinemaCon (which was formerly ShoWest). While exhibition and studios came out for them, there were a number of executives at that Las Vegas, Nv confab who decided to either not attend or beam in virtually.

’If you make a universal heartfelt story with the proper talent and budget for a market you can make a profitable business.’
Netflix’s local language production efforts on shows like Narcos and Dark have whetted audience appetites at a time when non-English-language fare offers opportunities for the theatrical business, CinemaCon attendees heard on Monday (April 1).
“What Netflix has done in terms of streaming and local content around the world, seeing that travel and become popular elsewhere, starting with Narcos… [means] Netflix audiences are getting used to watching international content,” Pantelion Films CEO Paul Presburger said during a panel titled ‘Don...

Mexican exhibition giant Cinepolis is venturing into production with Manolo Caro’s Latino remake of Italian hit comedy “Perfect Strangers.” Now ranking second in the world in terms of admissions, this move marks the exhibitor’s first foray into feature film production.
Spain’s Alex de la Iglesia made a Spanish version of the dark comedy last year, which did gangbusters at the local box office, earning $25.8 million, and will make its L.A. debut at the revived Los Angeles Latino Int’l Film Festival in June.
“Perfect Strangers” revolves around a circle of friends who decide to lay bare all their secrets at a dinner, placing their smartphones and their respective contents on the table for all to see. What starts as an innocent game takes an unexpected, disastrous turn.
A stellar ensemble cast for the Latino version includes Cecilia Suárez, Manuel García Rulfo, Mariana Treviño, Miguel Rodarte, Bruno Bichir,...
