On the red carpet outside the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles gala Saturday night, the organization’s president and CEO Paul Viviano explained how, if this were a typical event, the musical headliner would deliver a “low-ley” performance of two or three songs. But this year’s installment, held at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, was anything but routine.
That was all thanks to Justin Timberlake as the 41-year-old crooner not only agreed to show up, but also to put on a show — a 40-minute mini-concert of 10 songsm including his tracks “Suit & Tie,” “Señorita” and “Can’t Fight the Feeling,” mixed in with classic hits and soul classics from artists like Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Bill Withers and Sam Cooke.
“We’re privileged to have him,” Viviano gushed of Timberlake’s showing at the event, Chla’s first in-person fundraiser in three years.

It was one hit that Dodgers baseball reporter David Vassegh didn’t enjoy.
Vassegh recorded a bit Wednesday night showing him taking a ride on Bernie Brewer’s slide an attraction at the Milwaukee Brewers’ American Family Field.
The host of the Dodger Talk show that follows Dodgers radio broadcasts and a frequent TV presence on the team’s telecasts, Vassegh was showcasing“Bernie’s Chalet,” a slide where Brewers mascot Bernie Brewer celebrates Milwaukee homers with trips down a giant white slide in the left-field stands.
Vasseghwent down the slide twice about four hours before the Dodgers’ game.
The second trip wasn’t as fun as the first.
Vassegh went out of control at the slide’s end and crashed into the padding at the end of the ride. He said he broke two bones in his right wrist and cracked six ribs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation celebrated its sixth — and due to the pandemic, first since 2019 — Blue Diamond Gala on Thursday night, with a who’s-who of L.A. sports stars and a headlining set from Jennifer Lopez.
The event, dubbed “The Party for L.A.,” raised a record-breaking 3.6 million for Ladf, which aims to improve education, health care, homelessness and social justice for all Angelenos and, since 1995, has invested more than 40 million in programs and grants to nonprofits throughout the city. The gala also feted Ladf’s “Everyday Champions,” whose work in the community was hindered by the Covid-19 pandemic but who were able to step up to the plate and make a difference.

The commissioners of the NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball addressed the impact of Covid-19 on their sports as well as TV ratings, rules changes and plans for next season during a virtual panel hosted by the Paley Center.
With rates of coronavirus infection now surging nationwide, the feat of each league managing to complete their respective seasons and crown champions in 2020 has given way to the next challenge: starting back up again. With billions of dollars on the line and a patchwork of local, state and international health and safety protocols in place, there are no easy solutions. The NBA and MLB expect a significant number of fans to attend games, while the NHL is exploring a “hub” system to minimize travel. For a host of reasons, no league is looking at a “bubble” setup to start the season.

Major League Baseball has opted not to punish Los Angeles Dodgers star Justin Turner for joining his teammates in an on-field celebration of winning the World Series after he’d left the game because of a positive Covid-19 test.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said today that Turner apologized for the October 27 incident and accepted responsibility. But the executive also admitted that the league “could have handled the situation more effectively.” Read statements from Turner, Manfred and Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten below.
Late in the deciding Game 6 of the World Series last month, Turner was told he had tested positive and immediately left the game. The star third baseman was put in isolation but returned later to celebrate the Dodgers win, their first championship since 1988, with his teammates — sometimes without a mask.

The Los Angeles Dodgers winning their first World Series title since the Reagan era Tuesday was tempered by news that the team’s star third baseman Justin Turner tested positive for Covid-19 and was informed late in the deciding Game 6. He left the field before the eighth inning and was put in isolation but returned later to celebrate the championship with his teammates — sometimes without a mask.
Now Major League Baseball wants an explanation and is launching “a full investigation into this matter.” In a statement today, MLB pointed the finger directly at the veteran player, saying: “It is clear that Turner chose to disregard the agreed-upon joint protocols and the instructions he was given regarding the safety and protection of others. … When MLB Security raised the matter of being on the field with Turner, he emphatically refused to comply.”

The World Series may have sunk to a record low TV audience, but the 2020 edition of the Fall Classic did accomplish something that hasn’t happened in four years. It drew a larger audience than the NBA Finals.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ six-game victory over the Tampa Bay Rays to claim the franchise’s first title in 32 years averaged 9.72 million viewers. In comparison, the six-game NBA Finals drew 7.4 million earlier this month, losing nearly half of its audience from last year.
That last time the World Series out-drew the NBA Finals was in 2016 in what was a battle of two all-time classic championship series.
Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers’ shocking comeback victory over the Golden State Warriors (who were coming off a record 73-win season) averaged just shy of 21 million viewers, bolstered by 30 million watching Game 7, the NBA’s most-watched game since the Michael Jordan era. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won their first World Series title since 1988.
The Dodgers won Game 6 of the World Series tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays with a score of 3-1. The Dodgers had previously led the series 3-2, winning Game 1, Game 3 and Game 5 of the series.

Updated with positive Covid-19 test news: The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday night, clinching the franchise’s seventh world championship and first since 1988. Mookie Betts, the Dodgers’ big offseason acquisition, put the game out of reach with a solo homer in the eighth inning, after the Dodgers used seven pitchers to keep the Rays at bay and were able to erase an early 1-0 deficit with a two-run sixth inning after Tampa Bay starter Blake Snell was pulled.

In the rush to get ready for a 60-game sprint with a reduced number of players available, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been playing their clubhouse attendant, Francisco Herrera, aka “Chico,” in their intrasquad games.
He’s not only playing, but starring.
In a tweet today, the Dodgers highlighted a difficult catch by Herrera off the bat of outfielder Mookie Betts. Herrera, playing left field, tracked down the Betts blast and fired the ball back in, doubling up a baserunner who presumed the line drive rocket was destined for extra bases.
The runner should have known better. On Saturday, Herrera made a similar play, tracking down a ball in deep left and firing the ball to second base, nabbing runner Chris Taylor who tried to tag up and advance from first. The play wasn’t even close, and Taylor was gunned down. .

Is there going to be a bonus episode of Tiger King on Netflix? That's not a question we expected to be asking, but thanks to a recent comment by Jeff Lowe, one of the show's stars, it's on everyone's minds. Carole Baskin, the big-cat activist who is the target of the murder-for-hire plot in Netflix’s “Tiger King,” says she has not been asked to appear in the upcoming bonus episode of the docuseries that Jeff Lowe says is coming — and wouldn’t have joined in even if she was.
“We have not been approached about a new episode and would not participate if asked,” a spokesperson for Baskin told TheWrap in a statement Tuesday.
“Tiger King” follows (and the title refers to) Joe Exotic, the owner of a big-cat zoo in Oklahoma. Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, was found to be guilty of hiring a hitman to kill Baskin, a rival of his in the animal world. He’s serving a multi-decade prison sentence for that and for animal rights crimes.

“Tiger King” is on a roll, with Netflix sharing on Monday morning that the popular docuseries was once again its most-watched show or movie in the U.S. over the past 24 hours — pushing its streak of being the top title on the streaming service to 15 straight days.
The seven-part series, covering the bizarre life of former tiger zoo owner Joe Exotic and several other owners like him in the U.S., easily holds the longest streak atop Netflix’s recently-launched top 10 overall shows and movies list. “The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez” holds the second-longest streak at 6 straight days as Netflix’s most watched show or movie, followed by “Love Is Blind” and “Spenser Confidential,” which were both in the top spot for five straight days.
