The hit Starz drama series P-Valley has upped Gail Bean (Snowfall), Bertram Williams Jr and Thomas Q. Jones to series regulars while also adding Mea Wilkerson to its main cast for Season 3. Production kicked off recently in Atlanta.
Bean will continue to play Roulette, a new dancer at The Pynk; Williams Jr will continue to play Woddy, Lil Murda’s manager; and Jones will continue to play Mane, the leader of Chief-Fi-Chief gang. Also in a series regular role, Wilkerson will portray “Haiku,” an enigmatic new dancer who thrives on chaos, finding solace in the messy choices that ignite her spirit and remind her what it means to truly feel alive.
From creator, showrunner and executive producer Katori Hall, P-Valley is an hourlong drama that tells the story of the little-strip-club-that-could and the big characters who come through its doors – the hopeful, the lost, the broken, the ballers, the beautiful and the damned.

Dozens of top Hollywood creatives and activists have signed an open letter in response to the shuttering of production company Participant — imploring the industry to continue to effect change through film and television as the defunct company once did.
George Clooney, Aflonso Cuarón, Ava DuVernay, Jane Fonda, Regina King, Viola Davis, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, Color of Change president Rashad Robinson and more are signators, in addition to groups like GLAAD and Human Rights Watch. The letter was coordinated by the National Domestic Workers Alliance (Ndwa), which collaborated with Participant and director Cuarón on a visibility campaign for his 2018 Oscar winner “Roma.”
“As we say goodbye to Participant, we must underscore that values-based storytelling is needed now more than ever,” the letter states. “There is a whole ecosystem of people, connected by the work of the last 20 years of Participant, ready to work with you.

“Abbott Elementary” star William Stanford Davis joined the choir of actors Friday offering a firsthand look at real residual checks he has received as a working actor. The act was meant to emphasize one of the main issues that led to the SAG-AFTRA strike earlier this month: minuscule residual payments in the age of streaming.
In the video, Davis revealed a pair of real residual checks worth mere pennies: 3 cents and 5 cents.
“I want to give you an example of what a residual check looks like,” Stanford said in a video circulating TikTok and Twitter, raising the 3-cent check to the camera. “I showed this to my brother, and he fell on the floor laughing. It ain’t f–king funny.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo hasn’t officially given a statement about the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, but she has shared something perhaps more powerful: a picture. On Tuesday, the Golden Globe-nominated actor posted a meme of herself from her hit show, criticizing Netflix for failing to pay actors residuals.
The meme Pompeo posted on her Instagram Stories references the Season 2 episode “As We Know It,” which sees Dr. Meredith Grey operating on a man with a bomb in his chest. A crossed-armed image of Meredith is captioned with the text “Me when there’s a [bomb emoji] in the chest cavity.” Above that, Pompeo wrote, “Also me when @netflix Doesn’t pay actors residuals holla let’s talk [sic].”

As the SAG-AFTRA strike continues, several actors have come forward to share their residual checks. Streaming residuals stand as a major point of concern for both the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild of America.
WGA captain Caroline Renard shared a TikTok from “P-Valley” star Brandee Evans. In the video, which was posted in May prior to the latest strike, Evans shares three residual checks from SAG-AFTRA. The first two checks are for $3.99 and $4.67, respectively, and the third one is for $0.01.
Evans plays series lead Mercedes Woodbine on the Starz original and has appeared in 17 of 18 episodes of the GLAAD and TCA-nominated series.

Ever since premiering in July 2020 — in the heart of a pandemic that shuttered the very strip clubs it depicts — Starz’ “P-Valley” has been one of the most consistently subversive and provocative shows on television. The drama, which Katori Hall adapted from her play “Pussy Valley,” follows an ensemble of adult performers making ends meet at The Pynk strip club in the fictional town of Chucalissa, Mississippi. The series was notable for its three-dimensional portrayal of sex work — which was shaped by its all-female creative team — as well as its charming cast and endlessly fabulous costume design.
By the time Season 2 premiered, the series had built up a passionate fan base that was eager to see what their favorite diverse group of strippers was up to. At IndieWire’s Consider This Event in Los Angeles on Saturday, “P-Valley” stars Nicco Annan (Uncle Clifford), Brandee Evans (Mercedes), and J. Alphonse Nicholson (Lil Murda...

There’s no show quite like “P-Valley.” Starz’s Mississippi-set crime drama may have flown under the awards radar after its first season, but its blend of film noir tension and soap opera theatrics — all set in the world of a small-town strip club called “The Pynk” — is more than deserving of its flowers.
Series creator Katori Hall developed the show for television based on her less shyly-named play “Pussy Valley.” But that’s a tidbit easy to forget when watching. This is a story that feels skillfully designed for the medium of television, where the eclectic cast of characters have room to grow and bounce off one another across arcs and seasons. “P-Valley” isn’t recognized enough for having one of the most colorful and talented ensembles on television: a team which includes Nicco Annan as the non-binary club owner Uncle Clifford; Brandee Evans as veteran dancer Mercedes; Elarica Johnson...

Mary J. Blige's name has always been synonymous with empowering others, namely through her iconic music, but now she's extended that reputation to another successful venture: the Strength of a Woman Festival. This year, the Atlanta event made elevation, education, and empowerment the number goal in every facet of the four-day affair (May 11-14) - from a moving Mother's Day gospel brunch and extravagant house ball to lively celebrity-led concerts. But that mission was most evident during Blige's thoughtful summit held on May 13 at AmericasMart, where stars gathered to share wisdom about entrepreneurship, business, health, wellness, and more with festivalgoers in the name of unity.

Add another Starz series to the list of shows suspended as a result of the writers strike.
P-Valley has postponed its production in Atlanta.
Deadline understands that the series had recently finished its writers room for season three but production had not started.
Creator and showrunner Katori Hall said, “We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached”. We hear that filming had not started but Hall’s comments refer to the writers room.
“Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked,” she added, “I am also a member of the DGA whose AMPTP contract begins negotiations today. Overlapping issues abound and we shall see how these stories end. As a writer I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”

The stoner comedy market has always been cornered by men until now with MTV’s original movie aptly titled Pretty Stoned. Pretty Vee and Paris Berelc star as co-workers Stella and Darcy who find themselves in hot water after one of them disposes of $20,000 worth of high-end product down the toilet as revenge. Now they have to deal with the repercussions of drug Queen Pin Madame X and her enforcer Tik Tock, played by Brandee Evans. For Evans, the role in the stoner comedy is a nice departure from viewers who know her as Mercedes on the drama P-Valley. Ahead of the film’s 4/20 eve premiere, we caught up with the actress. How does it feel to be in a female-led stoner comedy? Brandee Evans: In my best Lizzo voice I say it’s about damn time. I’m very excited MTV is allowing us to do this under their development.

MTV is kicking off the 4/20 festivities a little early this year, debuting its latest original movie Pretty Stoned on Wednesday, April 19 (8/7c), TVLine has learned exclusively.
The Atlanta-set comedy “follows two dueling co-workers: one a total stoner with no commitment to her job and the other a type-a high-achiever focused on her career,” per the movie’s official logline. “The two women must join forces when they find themselves sky-high in a boatload of trouble after one of them disposes of $20,000 worth of pot from a drug queenpin and her henchwomen.”

Brandee Evans, Yves Mathieu East, Richard Lui, Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller Rogen are also taking part in the movement, which is working to change how society values and supports caregiving. The 54th NAACP Image Awards, which aired on CBS from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium Saturday night, has wrapped. Queen Latifah hosted the proceedings, which honored the best in Black entertainment for the proceeding year. Inclusive awards that they are, the Image Awards often give a hat-tip to performers of color who aren’t Black, though: Tenoch Huerta Mejía won Best Supporting Actor for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which also won Outstanding Motion Picture.
That film received another big award in the form of Best Supporting Actress for Angela Bassett, who is by far now the frontrunner for the Academy Award. It was one of two awards of the night for Bassett, as she also won Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role in “9-1-1.”

The need and desire to see Black, Brown, Asian and Indigenous people on screen has yet to be completely fulfilled by Hollywood, but there has been a recent uptick in Aapi and Bipoc representation on screen. “This role has allowed me to be more audacious and authentic,” declares Nicco Annan about playing Uncle Clifford on “P-Valley.” For our recent webchat he adds, “I’ve always been a person who has walked in my own truth. I never fit into the confines society gives me. This role is a space where you can spread your wings and do all things. Some people, because of their previous biases with Black characters and queer characters, can be very limited. There have been rumors swirling for a while now that Lionsgate Entertainment's premium cable and satellite television network, Starz, is heading toward a possible sale. The channel has been delivering fantastic series and specials as of late, like "Gaslit," the Watergate drama starring Julia Roberts, and the upcoming return of the Hollywood catering comedy, "Party Down." Starz doesn't often get the spotlight compared to its contemporaries like HBO and Showtime, but the channel is home to one of the best shows in television history, and the fact the entire world isn't constantly running personal Emmy campaigns at all times for it is a crime ... especially when the show is heading into its third season.
"'P-Valley' continues to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as it captures the nuances of the Mississippi Delta with an unprecedented level of humanity and artistry," said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz.

Starz is letting the doors of the Pynk swing wide again by ordering a third season of the crime-related drama. P-Valley Season 3 will consist of 10 episodes produced by Lionsgate. The show hails from Katori Hall, who created, showruns, and executive produces the series. P-Valley takes place in the Pynk, a strip club in the Mississippi Delta in the American South. Often described as a neo-noir, P-Valley is a character-driven thriller led by four women: Brandee Evans as seasoned stripper Mercedes, Elarica Johnson as newcomer Autumn Night, Shannon Thornton as Miss Mississippi, and Skylar Joy as Gidget.
In Season 2, P-Valley presented a timely twist by seeing the Pynk struggle to remain in the game during the pandemic. Each episode built on a war for control of the club, with new faces adding plenty of spice to an already hot mix of personalities. “P-Valley” has been renewed for a third season consisting of 10 episodes at Starz. The critically acclaimed strip club-set drama is currently the cable network’s biggest show in the U.S.
The sophomore season of “P-Valley” — created and executive produced by Pulitzer Prize winner Katori Hall — averages nearly 10.3 million viewers across linear, VOD and streaming platforms domestically, the network reported.
“‘P-Valley’ continues to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as it captures the nuances of the Mississippi Delta with an unprecedented level of humanity and artistry,” said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, in a statement. “This layered drama gets beyond the glitz through authentic and complex characters that have captured the hearts of critics and audiences alike. “P-Valley” has been renewed for Season 3 at Starz, Variety has learned.
Like Season 2 of the Lionsgate-produced drama series, the third season will consist of 10 episodes. Season 2 of the show debuted on Starz in June and wrapped up in August.
“‘P-Valley’ continues to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as it captures the nuances of the Mississippi Delta with an unprecedented level of humanity and artistry,” said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz. “This layered drama gets beyond the glitz through authentic and complex characters that have captured the hearts of critics and audiences alike. Starz has renewed its drama series P-Valley for a third season, which will consist of 10 episodes. Lionsgate Television produces the series.
From creator, showrunner and executive producer Katori Hall, P-Valley is an hourlong drama that tells the story of the little-strip-club-that-could and the big characters who come through its doors – the hopeful, the lost, the broken, the ballers, the beautiful and the damned.

It took audiences deeper into the lives of Pynk’s characters as darkness descended upon the fictional Mississippi town of Chucalissa.

Actress and former choreographer Brandee Evans, who has played the character of Mercedes in season 2 of ‘P-Valley’, has shared that the second season deals with a lot of mental health issues.
Based on the hit original play ‘Pussy Valley’ and created by Pulitzer Prize-winner, Katori Hall, ‘P-Valley 2’ is set in the fictional town of Chucalissa, Mississippi. It centres on a strip club – ‘The Pynk’, run by the more mature Uncle Clifford (played by Nicco Annan), whose dancers are fierce, but they also have incredible back stories that show their vulnerabilities.
Shedding light on the second season, she said: “There have been a lot of mental health issues that we’re tackling this season; you’ll be able to see it as you watch. (I) had to dig deep as well. There was a lot of really digging deep into some very hard situations, conversations and thoughts that I’m bringing to Mercedes this season.
