He may have finished in fourth place on "The X Factor," but Marcus Canty should definitely consider himself a winner. Earlier this year, the R&B singer signed a deal with mentor L.A. The smooth ballad, which shows off Canty's vocal strength, will be featured on the soundtrack to the film "Think Like a Man," but Canty promises he was thinking only of the ladies when making the song.

Marcus Canty has confessed that he was surprised by the axing of Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul from the X Factor USA judges' panel. Canty, who competed in the first season of the Fox singing competition, said that he enjoyed working with Scherzinger and Abdul and felt that they brought "drama" to the program. "I actually was kind of surprised [they left]. I thought it was a lot of drama on the show with Paula and Nicole, but they were so nice," he explained to MTV News. "I feel like Paula was honest. While Chris Rene may have only come in third place on "The X Factor," the singer isn't letting defeat slow him down.
The Santa Cruz, CA native has just put out a video for his song "Young Homie." As fans of the show know, Rene performed this tune a number of times on the singing competition.
The video offers a look back at Rene's well-documented struggles with drugs and alcohol while putting out a positive message.
In Jan. 2012, Rene signed on with Epic, the record label run by "X Factor" judge L.A. Reid. He's joined on the label by winner Melanie Amaro, Marcus Canty and Brian "Astro" Bradley.

The 'X Factor' contestant came in fourth, and I think America made the right decision! Good voice, but the song is a bit boring! Listen here! Marcus Canty's newly released single, "Won't Make A Fool Out Of You," is a smooth and sensual R&B ballad, But it wasn't very memorable. I have to give the 21-year-old props because he is talented; he sounds like a combination of Usher and Mario. He would be much more memorable if he sings dance hits, just like his X Factor performance of "Pretty Young Thing" -- now that was hot, so step up your game, Marcus! The single will be on Marcus's debut album released by Epic Records later this year and the title is yet to be announced. Let's hope we hear some more upbeat songs Marcus! He has the voice, but he just has to prove he's worthy of being compared to Usher.

I did it because, like you, I was entranced by "American Idol" and the drama of watching potential stars climb their way to the top each week. Simon say it isn't so -- why did you ditch your perfect wing woman Paula on 'X Factor'? Yes, you were right to dump wimpy Nicole and forgettable Steve, but not Paula! Nicole Scherzinger sealed her fate the moment she refused to make a decision between X Factor contestants Rachel Crow and Marcus Canty in the semi-finals. When she abdicated her job and let "America's" votes makes the decision and Rachel was eliminated, Simon and the X Factor audience knew it was just plain wrong. Then when little Rachel, 14 -- one of Simon's girls -- fell to the ground on her knees, that was undoubtedly the moment that Simon could not and would not forgive. He'd already criticized Paula's song selections and visual presentations, plus her habit of crying at the drop of the hat, so The Rachel Crow blow was definitely Simon's "had it" moment. Steve was...

I challenge American Idol to come up with a crop of "artists" as outstanding as the finalists on the first season of X Factor. What a fabulous night The X Factor finale brought this week! What a satisfying win! Along with finally crowning the winner of this competition (the winner of which had the title in the bag from the moment they auditioned), the final twelve returned to the stage as well as some big names including Justin Bieber and Leona Lewis. Not only that, the show got into the Christmas spirit, which brought the night’s high even higher!

Good bye Marcus, hello Nicole!
The surprise of last night's "X Factor" elimination show was hardly the send-off of Marcus Canty, the 20-year-old Baltimorean who finally got the boot after sinking to the bottom four times in a row. And that she did, with a performance of her new single "Pretty." Who knew that Scherzinger possessed such a manic growl and low gutteral register? Who else was confused by the waterfall of metal cascading from her neck her large metal necklace? Who else was kind of scared?
Perhaps Simon Cowell said it best when he, in a...

X Factor USA contestant Marcus Canty has said people shouldn't feel bad for him following his exit from the show. The 20-year-old singer was eliminated by America's vote on Thursday night, narrowly missing a place in next week's live finale when the $$5 million recording contract prize will be awarded. Speaking to Access Hollywood backstage, he said: "Don't nobody cry, if you're at home watching, don't cry. This was a great experience and I had so much fun." When asked if he was surprised to be going home, he replied: "You know, it was anybody's game, in my opinion. It could have been Josh, Chris or Melanie. It was up to America. "America chose who they wanted I respect everything. They have supporters out there, I have supporters out there. I'm pretty sure it was tight, it wasn't that easy, man! (more)...

The singing competition will conclude its debut season with a two-part live finale next week, with a second season previously confirmed by Fox last month. Marcus Canty, who made it to the live shows this season, was one of the contestants who auditioned via YouTube for the first season. Viewers — did you enjoy watching Florence and the Machine rock the house on your big fancy television screens last night? Well, so did the crowd at the Xanadome. Unfortunately, Florence’s performance, as well as the majority of last night’s taping of The X Factor, was pre-recorded. The audience spent a lot of time sitting through pre-packaged recap segments, while Steve Jones paced nervously on stage. Top man, that one.
Luckily, things picked up when the judges finally came out of their caves at the end of the taping. Once it was time to send someone home, the drama got real.

After two weeks of painfully uncomfortable "X Factor" results shows -- replete with a child crying hysterically and death threats against Nicole Scherzinger -- this week's elimination seemed poised to offer a little satisfaction for the outraged fans of Rachel Crow and Drew. But did Marcus manage to escape the chopping block for a fourth week, with no "save me" performance to pull him back from the brink?
After 55 minutes of the typical shameless fillers and commercials, one colorful Florence and the Machine performance and one bass-heavy attempt from Scherzinger to imitate Steven Tyler (yes, she has a great voice, but I could've lived without her straining to sound raspy), we finally got to the results. So without further ado, the act sent home this week was ...

Marcus Canty has become the ninth act to be eliminated from the Top 12 of The X Factor USA's first season. The 20-year-old, who has consistently fallen into the bottom two in recent weeks, was eliminated during Thursday night's live results show after it was revealed that he had scored the lowest number of public votes following Wednesday's semi-final. "I'm okay, this is not the last you'll see of me, I'm going to keep going. All my family and friends out there crying, stop crying. It's all right!" Canty said following his elimination. "It's not over yet!" > 'X Factor' USA poll results: Josh Krajcik rules the semi-finals His mentor La Reid added: "I'm not happy to see you go. It only took 37 minutes for X Factor producers to upload some results data to the show’s chiseled, frequently malfunctioning robot mascot, and then — finally — this week’s results-show telecast got underway.
In No Particular Order, the first two contestants sent through to safety, were: Chris Rene…aaaaaaand — insert long, significant pause here — Melanie Amaro. (Whew and whew.)
Then it was time for mentor and crusher of young girls’ dreams Nicole Sureshewasnt to hit the stage and perform her new single “Pretty.” Remarkably, Nicole did not surround herself with the army of absurd backup dancers she’s frequently used to stymie her last remaining contestant,...

The X Factor: The Search for the Star of the World’s Next “Iconic” Pepsi Commercial reached its semifinal round on Wednesday night, and there was plenty of good news to share.

It's time for another X Factor dream to be crushed ... then pulverized, and then ground into a fine, luminous powder and sprinkled over the Road to Victory, the easier for the three remaining performers to see their way as they march to next week's finale.
Whoa, what? Sorry, I got a little dark there for a minute. It's just that, given how wretched and uncomfortable last week's elimination was, and that tonight the obnoxious and smug Nicole Scherzinger is going to force her obnoxiousness and smugness down our throats with a performance of her song "Pretty" (which, until I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume is about Nicole feeling sorry for herself because she's too beautiful to be taken seriously), I'm feeling a bit bleak.
You know who else is probably feeling bleak right now? Marcus Canty. Even his "Vegas show in 1983" version of "Careless Whisper" didn't seem to improve...

Marcus Canty's luck finally ran out on Thursday's (December 15) "The X Factor," as the 20-year-old from Bowie, Maryland, was voted off the show one week away from the finale. That leaves Josh Krajcik, Chris Rene and Melanie Amaro to battle it out for the $5 million recording contract in next week's finals.
Canty found himself in a familiar position on Thursday's results show when he was among the last two to have his fate read by host Steve Jones. Canty had landed in the bottom two each of the last three weeks but had pulled through each time, including last week's dramatic finish when he triumphed over cutie-pie contestant Rachel Crow after a controversial decision by Nicole Scherzinger to put the final results in the hands of America's votes.

Mariah Carey's $300,000 price tag was simply too much for the folks over at the "X Factor," according to a report from Showbiz411. The article claims that the pop star was set to perform her revamped version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" together with Justin Bieber on the December 15th episode of "X Factor," but the staggering asking price led even Simon Cowell to nix the program.
Would Carey and Bieber have reenacted their slightly awkward flirting-in-a-shopping-mall music video? Would they have blown remaining "X Factor" contestants Melanie Amaro, Chris Rene, Josh Krajcik and Marcus Canty under water? Who knows! Rabid Mariah fans in dire need of Carey-caroling need not worry: the recent mother of twins is set to appear on a Music Choice on Demand holiday special entitled, obviously, "Merry Christmas from Mariah Carey," starting December 19th.

The "X Factor" stage is now bereft of children -- though we can't say the same for the judges' table -- and our final four contestants definitely had their game faces on for this week's semi-final sing-off. In Josh's case, his game face looked a little like he was being electrocuted, but it's hard to hold that against him when he sounds so darn good. We spent a good deal of time rehashing Rachel Crow's shocking elimination, which only served to remind us how inept Nicole is -- especially since her "judging" style seems to have devolved from spouting abstract and enthusiastic haikus to simply clutching her face and shaking her head in overwhelmed awe since last week.
As we near the finals, it seems as though every competitor is mining their deepest emotional reserves for a suitably heartbreaking video introduction, and if we're judging the competition based on...

You know what being at a live taping of The X Factor is like? A boxing match.
Now, mind you, I haven’t been to too many boxing bouts in my time. (My reputation can’t withstand too many of those, honestly.) But I’ve hit a couple over the years, and being in the studio last night at L.A.’s CBS Television City as Marcus, Chris, Melanie, and Josh battled it out felt something like those nights at the MGM Grand Garden Arena: A big fight was going on in the middle of the venue; the crowd was yelling like crazy,...

Before "The X Factor" starts, Steve of course has to check in with Nicole, who is still getting booed by the audience. Heh. She's also wearing some kind of Lisa Frank-inspired lace top and spouting off things like "God is good."
That won't make anyone like you more after you couldn't sack up and send Marcus home last week, Nicole.
Anyway. The first song is the Pepsi Challenge viewers' choice song. Clearly the viewers are stuck in 1997.
1. Marcus Canty, "I'll Make Love to You"
Kinda racy for a Fox singing competition show. Also, not as good done as one part instead of four. And he's wandering around with a single white rose as one girl writhes aroudn on stage in the background. Seriously, this all smacks of a bad early 90s music video. And the ending is really weird. Vocally, it was fine, but I was way too distracted by all the strange trimmings.

We’ve reached that wonderful point in the X Factor season where each and every one of us can agree on what needs to happen next: Cheryl Cole should take the next cross-Atlantic flight from the UK and replace Nicole Shiftingblankets.
As for which three of the four remaining contestants – Melanie Amaro, Marcus Canty, Chris Rene, and Josh Krajcik — should make next week’s finals, well, let’s not make any hasty judgments. Instead, let’s all kick back with a nice glass* of veen and discuss how the performances play out. (*By “glass,” I mean “bottle,” obvs.)
